Happy Thursday!
We were at Lane’s End last week catching up with Zenyatta, her little princess, and Ziconic. Everyone is looking fabulous and healthy.
We’ll be back after the holiday with a recap of our trip and some special interviews for you.
Wishing everyone safe travels and a great 4th of July!

Remembering can be painful and sometimes without any real benefits. It keeps us feeling guilty and regretting so much that the good memories are washed out. It is easy enough to forget the good that happened, without covering the good with bad memories. No doubt, everything has not been ideal-but haven’t we given enough thought to the unhappy times? It doesn’t do any good to ruin the present time recalling what went wrong in the past. But we can begin to change. Maybe only a little at first-but honest effort has always changed things for the better and given us self-respect as well. Time grows more and more precious and what we do with it at this moment makes or beaks today and all our tomorrows.
We are not afraid to work and we are not afraid to do right.

Dear Sheena,
Working today. UGH! Be sure and look at the adorable video on My Miss Kitty Face’s page of a French Bulldog puppy playing with the spring door stop.
Happy Saturday!

Dear Kathy.Thought it was a holiday weekend!!Hope the furbabies coped with the fireworks somehow I don’t think Marty did!!Eugenie Bouchard isn’t coping very well in the Ladies Final today. She is a twin and their mum named them after the Duke of York’s daughters Beatrice and Eugenie!Have a good day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Sheena. Heavy rain has hit Nissyland. 50k without power. Nissy however is posting on his Facebook. Did not know this about Eugenie Bouchard. Doesn’t look too good for her in the match. Let us know about the Eclipse.

Dear Max and Sheena:
Wow, poor Nissy. Not that long ago he and his Peeps were flooded out. Hope this time’s not as severe. Love and Hugs, JB
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Only the one day off in our library system. We’re back at it today. Two of our libraries are open tomorrow, too. Crazy! Hope all in Nissyland stay safe. Poor Eugenie. That’s neat that the girls are names after the two princesses! Holly ran into the closet and nestled in amongst Steve’s cowboy boots. She could smell the leather and that was comforting to her. Nikko hid under the bed, and Sugar wasn’t in the least concerned.
Hugs, Kathy
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max and Kathy.Poor Eugenie was demolished in the final a brilliant performance by Kvitova! Now for the Eclipse!Hope Nissy stays safe. What about his basement???.I haven’t had time to visit him yet.Go Toast at Belmont!Free the Moose.Niss4Senate PU Dan and all sick horses everywhere.Sheena.

Dear Max.Nissy survived the storm quite nicely except for a few branches down in the driveway all is well. He’s going to Chap’s 16th birthday party now.I’m hoping the Fugue can defy history not a good record for fillies in this race. She looks well though.Free the Moose!Hugs Sheena.

Dear Max.Mukhadram wins the Eclipse great ride by Paul Hanagan.Don’t know what William Buick was doing giving the Fugue so much to do!!Is’nt Giant’s Causeway his grandsire?Verrazano very disappointing today.Had always thought he had a big race in him after his debut over here.Go Toast at Belmont.Free the Moose.Niss4Senate!!!Sheena.=^..^=
Max
Sheena. Glad to hear about Nissy. Is that storm over?
Very disappointing for The Fugue. Read that the distance is just not right for Verrazano. He might be better at a shorter distance.
Waiting for Belmont. Toast, do it.

Sheena. They do not have today’s race up yet, but here is a video of Toast’s ancestor winning the Coral Eclipse in 1984. A super son of Northern Dancer and grand daddy to Frankel. Unlike the accepted practice of winners, he keeps his head up, proudly and courageously. Beautiful blaze too.

This and the Oaks were on NBCSports TV. They had 3 races from Belmont on at 5 Eastern time. The dratted Johnny V did not have a real good day. I know he is just waiting for Lea, Muchie or Palace Malice to be in competition with one of his mounts to ruin my day.

Thank you for this wonderful video. What a beautiful horse Sadler’s Wells is; I had never seen a photo or video of him before. Great legacy he’s left. Love and Hugs, JB

Anne from Paramount
Hello Team Zenyatta and family! Hope everyone’s holiday was terrific. Lovely, lovely photos—yikes, like everyone else I am astounded at how big the “middle child” has become!!
This morning Rod & I went to Los Alamitos for breakfast. Saw many horses working, including several from Baffert. And our own Art Sherman was seen in the persons walking around. Doing his thing quietly, as usual. Rod stopped in for Opening Day on Thursday, but did not stay for long. Described a good scene of many, many excited
people.
Two weeks ago I went back to Mike’s barn to see Caracortado (he was out and about), and in doing so walked by the stall where Cowtowmary would have been. (he is resting up and healing during the summer.) Well, there is an imposter in his stall! The nerve! So, I had to make do with exchanging smooches from strangers. Somehow it all worked out. :-) Nothing like a horse smooch to alleviate stress!
Nice catching up–more or less. Enjoyed that ad “starring” Paynter.
Good luck to everyone in today’s races–safe trips to all.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Anne:
Great to see a post from you. Oh, you said it all, horsie smooches are good for the soul. Love your reference to the “middle child”. Have a feeling he won’t be overlooked, though. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Anne and JB- too cute! Horsie smooches are the best….MWAH!
Cowtown will never hear it from me… imposter, oh no.
Hugs.

Dear Max.Great memories of the daddy of ’em all!!The proud and courageous Sadlers Wells with his head held high looking towards the heavens maybe?Free the Moose Niss4Senate PU Dan and all sick horses everywhere.Sorry about the Beast.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. You have to give Ballydoyle credit for training some marvellous horses. The sons of Northern Dancer like Nijinsky, El Grand Señor and Sadler’s Wells were outstanding racers. Tasty has SW in her pedigree. It appears that she inherited the family feisty gene.
Z fans, don’t forget that Coolmore has Z’s full brother under their care. Have to watch for him. Hopefully he will race in the US.
Free the Moose. He’s done enough time. Let the Moose run, or not.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Shared Belief
OK now, I’m over the moon. Just realized you were racing today. So so hope you win the Los Al Derby. Go Beautiful Boy.
Last time I saw you, well should I say you were showing a little attitude like some of these other Bad Boys. Bucking yes. a lot. You gotta be good today and win.
I’ll be on the edge of my seat, “Again”
So excited about seeing you. Win, Win, Win.
Geez, I think its late when you race east coat time. . I’ll be watching……………………….

Sheena. Toast beaten in the stretch by Mr. Speaker and Jose Lezcano. He faded. Adelaide was second. Flamboyant third. You were right. Should have tried the Derby.
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/86025/mr-speaker-delivers-belmont-derby-shocker
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Thanks for the report and video of the race.Adelaide ran a good race but Toast certainly faded.I’m sure our Epsom Derby might have been more suitable for him. He’s safe, that’s the main thing.Nissy has sparks coming out of a power line between him and the neighbours. The peep has phoned the power company 3 times and been put on hold then told to call back later. It won’t happen when he arrives in the senate!! The Moose must be free!Niss4SenatePU Dan and all injured horses everywhere.plus Reilly.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. You are right. He’s okay and will run again. Mr. Speaker is from the AP Indy line with Personal Ensign on the distaff, a very nice horse. Also Jose knows how to bring home a winner on turf. He sometimes rides with Dan, and there are no fights.
Osborne took a lot of flack from the UK press before that loss. Is he likely to get more? Most of those horses including Adelaide had more races under their belts. March 29 until now is a long layoff for only a second time out on turf.
Saw those comments by Nissy. The power company might have been overwhelmed by the storm. Lots of outages all over the east coast were reported from trees falling on power lines. Alas, Nissy will discover the Senate has no jurisdiction over municipal administration. In fact, it has very little power at all because it is not elected. Nissy should be aiming at being PM.
Free the Moose! The Moose must be free.
Janet Newman
I was hoping Mr. Speaker would show what his connections have
always hoped for. I loved his sire Pulpit. Of course having A. P. Indy as his grandsire and Personal Ensign on the distaff side isn’t bad either.
Just grateful that all the runners came home okay.
Max
There is something very satisfying when a horse like Mr. Speaker shows the experts what a horse race is all about. Glad to see Shug and Jose get that win.
Louise Spadafora
Mr. Speaker! I was not aware of this beautiful boy. He is a three year old son of Pulpit and has a pedigree that is out of this world. I think he set a track record today? I am putting him in my stable. He is owned by Phipps Stable and trained by McGaughey.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Congrats to Mr. Speaker, Shug, papa Pulpit, and grandpa Indy on a great win and setting a new track record. To think he got no respect before the race from the bettors of the race crew. You’d think they learn to mention everyone but certain horses get all the press……loved it……..would have loved to have bet on his nose.
Ann NC
Congrats to, Shug and Mr. Speaker.
What a day for these under horses. Many with high odds won and paid big money!
A turf horse at Monmouth broke his maiden and paid over $70.00.
Hurricane Arthur left a charge in the air and has left the odds makers spinning.
Sue, hope your puppy 4th ice cream social was fun. My daughter adopted a sweet pup yesterday from the local pound. She looks like a fox!
Hugs to all.
Ann NC
The dog looks like a fox, daughter is foxy!
Gourmet Delight is the turf winner at a mile….Wise Dan, can not match you, Champ. Very exciting.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Ann NC,
Will find out tomorrow at our Fund Raising meeting, but by my eyeball count it seemed very successful. Weather was sunny but very windy so we had trouble keeping the pies covered, so I was constantly on “fly patrol”. We get bigger every year as word spreads of our delicious homemade pies and ice cream, so we committee people have to make more and more every year, ha,ha, but it’s for the puppies and kitties so we’re all very committed. Thanks for asking. hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max, Sheena, Louise, Sue and Z Fans:
What a finish by Mr. Speaker. Wow! Maybe Toast didn’t like the condition of the turf? I was wrong on my hunch about Declan’s Warrior with JV aboard in the 6th. He never fired. Hope he came out of the race OK. Congrats to Mr. Speaker. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
JB, today would have been exacta heaven!

Dear Max.There are a few critical remarks for Osbourne already.Maybe the Belmont track did not suit Toast perhaps Jamie should have got a run into him before going to the US.Kauto and Laura are appearing at Barbury tomorrow at 12pm makes me realise how much he is missed on the racecourse. Those last 2 races in 2011 will always live in my memory.Free the MooseNiss4PM!PU Dan and all injured horses.

Sheena. That last King George with Kauto was unforgettable. Very exciting. It is great that his peeps keep him in the public eye. Glad also to see Super Steve back in view. We need the Moose. Have to check on Rock A Doodle Doo too.
It’s not going to be easy for Osborne. You know how critical the UK pundits can be.
Adelaide ran well. Any ideas on where he goes next?

Carol, Just saw that Rivers ran today at Thistledown. Was a close third. Don’t know much about it, but looked as if the jockey moved awfully early.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee, Carol and Z Fans:
Just watched Rivers’ replay. Did appear that the jockey took him out a little soon. Taking nothing away from the first two finishers, I think Rivers’ had nothing left for the stretch run. Love and Hugs, JB

Just saw Mr. Coburn at Los Al. Love these Los Al races. So glad they are having the Thoroughbred meet.
Hope Shared Belief can win on the dirt. Not long now.
A very pretty track. I have mostly before seen the quarter horse races at night. Love the Palm trees.

Congratulations Mike Smith, Jim Rome, Jerry Hollendorfer.
Stay Healthy Beautiful Boy.
Where might we see you next. Looking so forward to it.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Shared Belief, amazing, undefeated and who know, maybe being knocked off the Triple Crown trail was the best thing that ever happened to this horse. Fresh as a daisy and setting up nicely for the BC Classic. I am hopeful this marvelous gelding will be around for a long time and at the top of his game for years. The next Kelso, Forego, John Henry…why not?
Candy Boy…unlucky to be born in the same year as Shared Belief and California Chrome. What an “I’ll give you my best every time” racer. You gotta admire Candy Boy too. He keeps on turning in respectable seconds to Shared Belief and California Chrome.
Ann NC
Congrats to, Shared Belief.
Daddy, Candy Ride is proud of his boys, SR and Candy Boy. Neat they ran 1/2.
More great racing to come for these 3, I hope.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Candy Ride’s stud fee of $35,000 looks very reasonable these days.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Especially Horses, and Ann.
Isn’t he just beautiful. Looked like today he did it so easily.
We might just have a great breeders cup this year.
Janet Newman
Peggy,
That was a great race. Mikey did not have to ask him for much.
On another note, I saw where Orfevre was bred to 200+ mares.
Do not know how many of the covers resulted in confirmed pregnancies.
Seems like he is off to a good start,

Dear Judy
Thank you so much for the race replay. Could watch it over and over again. Didn’t he and Mike do wonderful.. I think we have a new star to watch this year.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Janet
Shared Belief is just amazing isn’t he. With Wise Dan, CC, Tonalist and more what do you think the 2nd half of the year will be like.
Orfevre I think is off to a great start. Blue Grass Girl reported earlier that one of the farms in Japan that sent mare’s to him I believe they all were in foal. Don’t know how many were sent to him, but it sounded great.
Janet Newman
Peggy,
There is a lot of good racing to look forward to for the rest of the year.
I just do not know how many times I can keep my heart from jumping out of my chest.
I am thinking Untapable just might be able to show the boys her heels too. And I do not want to forget Palace Malice either.
Shared Belief was amazing!
shirleeinindy
Peggy, the latter part of the summer and the fall should have great racing. I am eagerly awaiting the return of my 2 boys, Lea and Muchie. Think this will be the last year for either to race so hope they finish off in style.
I think Untapable might just be the best of the 3 year olds.
Barbara Brayton
Can’t get over how big Ziconic and the princess have gotten.
Roberta
I love all of Zenny’s youngsters, but I have to say Ziconic is my favorite; since the very beginning, he has had that maturity and presence about him. He is such a beauty, and only gets more beautiful as he gets older. I loved the video of him running with his mother; he stayed right with her, even when she turned, and never missed a step (I think she had him in training early, maybe she senses glory to come). That is the only video of him; I hope we get another one of him, please! The little princess is a carbon copy of mom. Zenny does such great work; of course she has been perfect at everything she does, truly a gift from heaven!!

Shared Belief: Domination in the Los Alamitos Derby
Zipse at the Track in Horse Racing Nation July 05, 2014
And so the legend of Shared Belief grows.
Questions asked: How will the champion juvenile of 2013 handle his first try on dirt? Can a simple allowance sprint at Golden Gate really be enough to have Shared Belief ready to handle graded stakes winners going two turns? Can the undefeated colt continue to dominate like he did at two, now well into his three-year-old season? Questions answered: Yes, it appears so, and boy did he ever. Using the Grade 2, $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby as his own personal equine playground, Shared Belief romped home the easiest kind of winner Saturday at Los Alamitos.

From the article:
All doors are now wide open for the impressive champion, including a sizeable bonus that began today. As the winner of the Los Alamitos Derby, Shared Belief is now eligible for a cool million dollar cherry if he can go on to victories in
the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic August 24 at Del Mar and
the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic November 1 at Santa Anita.
