Happy Thursday!
We were at Lane’s End last week catching up with Zenyatta, her little princess, and Ziconic. Everyone is looking fabulous and healthy.
We’ll be back after the holiday with a recap of our trip and some special interviews for you.
Wishing everyone safe travels and a great 4th of July!

Dear Max
The RCMP horses are just beautiful. I’m so glad the guy appeared to be alright after the spill.
Yeah, I think that horse might have been following in Big D and Gold Ships footsteps
Max, even though you said the way John Malkovitch dressed in Secretariat wasn’t accurate.to Lucien, it did make the movie colorful……Loved it when he slung the golfclubs too.
Max
Peggy. I think that the guy who fell off the RCMP horse in the video was actually a woman. They have a fair number of women riders in the musical ride. I saw a video of one ceremony where a female officer was in command.
I liked John M’s performance even if it was not exactly true to life. Ronny Turcotte also said that Sham’s trainer was nothing like the portrayal of him in the film. He was a real gentleman and very nice to Turcotte.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Max,
I bet you do hear from Tasty in your dreams. Don’t think too much about it and it will probably come naturally one day. I bet God lets you hear from her . Know he knows how much you love her. When we least expect things thats when they usually happen.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
Love your post to Max. Power Up CC, ROC, CDA, Beholder, Reilly, Sir and all who are ill or injured. Beast, Max is watching. Tasty, love you forever. Love and Hugs, JB

Happy 4th of July to Everyone.
God bless American & Thank you so much all our Veterans for all you’ve done for our country. All the Flags going up in town here. Very pretty. Love seeing my Dad’s flag on his grave at the cemetary. Love you Daddy

It’s hard to get my head around that Zinconic is only a yearling. Is it possible to be that huge at such a young age? I keep looking and looking at him and he not only has a huge frame but is well muscled too. I think he’s a lot heavier than Zen was at that age. I love the chestnut who reminds me of Big Red on Tapit’s pedigree. The filly looks to be a true bay and is absolutely gorgeous. Anxiously awaiting an update as promised. Thank you so much for sharing these precious pictures. I can hardly wait to see Zen’s foals on the track.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Thanks to the Mosses, Team Z, Lane’s End and Alys, Kyle and Tyler for the great photos and for taking such good care of Queen Z, 14Z, Ziconic and Coz!
To Zenyatta, the three beauties, and all Z’sters:
Have a safe, fun and Happy Independence Day!! Safe travels to those who are traveling, too. All the Best! Love and Hugs
Hugs to Life is Sweet and her foal, also.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Max,
I left a post for you at the bottom of the previous blog entry — page 7 (I think).
Happy Independence Day! Hugs
Shema Satya
I’m thrilled, I’m loving these 2 pics. Yes Ziconic is big for sure! and the filly, I’m just in love with her all the way!
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Sandy,
I left you a post, too, on page 7 of the previous entry. It was in reply to your link about Victor E. and his Royal Ascot experience.
Thanks for the link! Lots of Hugs
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Marshall. It never fails that on the rare occasion I find something that might be worth posting, the page changes :-)

So gorgeous! Zenyatta really does produce wonderful babies! Hard to believe Ziconic is only a yearling! So mature looking. Beautiful body, and color. Does remind me of Zenyatta in red! Thank you for keeping all of us fans up to date! We love you and your truly awesome mommy and babies… Can’t believe how fast they are all growing!!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Just checked and The Big Beast is entered in Race 3 at Belmont (Allowance-Turf) on Saturday, July 5th as an Also Eligible. He’ll only go if it’s called off the Turf. With the rain we’re supposed to have all day on Friday, it’s possible the turf races will be changed to the main track. We’ll have to wait and see. Love and Hugs, JB

Ok, Ziconic is a great, strapping, flashy colt. But that shot of the new filly? She looks drop dead BEautiful. Something special. Maybe that distaff gene from Momma Zen is a super-gene.

Thank you so much Team Z for the pictures of Z’s Red and our big beautiful Prinzess Lily. I have been waiting for an updated photo of Zi and, as soon as I saw his picture on the blog post, I was so excited — and then I actually sat and stared in awe for a couple of minutes. He’s so well developed for a yearling, it’s hard to believe he won”t be two years old until April 1, 2015. He’s truly Zenyatta’s “Chestnut Perfection”, big, strong shoulders, powerful rump, straight legs, amazing chest development — already tall and well muscled. Tapit really brought the best of his pedigree to the breeding barn the day he was bred to our Queen — really, Z’s Red looks so much like Big Red — that was my first thought when I saw his picture today.
The Prinzess looks to be going just a shade darker — hope so cause she’ll look more like Mama Z! LOVE those ears — In a couple of years, John will be putting cotton in her ears for sure!
Happy 4th of July to all of you and a special Thank You to all the guys and gals who serve in our armed forces.

To all the Z family.Have a very Happy 4th of July.Safe travels for you all this holiday weekend also the horses at Belmont because of the rain.Go Toast!!Hugs Sheena.

Hovis has been very busy. He’s got some new shoes, and some adventures to relate.
Happy 4th to all, especially the Moose who needs freedom now. Free the Moose!

Kathy
Dear Max,
Thank you for our weekly Hovis update. Poor Hovis, having to ponce in the heat. So glad you got to enjoy your jumping. Happy 4th everyone. God bless America. Free the Moose!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Hovis must not have heard about the race for “Shire horses” or I’m sure he would have had something to say about being excluded. Just as well. Another hilarious chapter in his long-suffering existence :-) Thanks, as always, to Sheena via Max for our Friday treat.
Max
Sandy. Hovis is a Clydesdale, at least in part, not a Shire. He also thinks that Shergar is his father. He would not be eligible for that race.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sandy and Max:
Thanks Max for that info. Sandy, didn’t know that Hovis was not part Shire. I guess he’ll have to wait for a race where he is eligible to enter. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. You can see the difference between the two breeds in their backs. Hovis does not have the curve of the Shire. His back is straight. He has the typical coloring with the white belly, socks and blaze. He’s also smaller at about 17 or 18 hands. Shires can easily be 21 hands. They are very big horses. Shires are English. Clydesdales are from Scotland, although Hovis might have been born in Ireland. Then there is the Shergar connection. Finally, I think that Hovis sees himself as an eventer, not a flat racer. He likes jumping.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Well . . . . Wrong again :-(. They really were very big horses weren’t they? They DID look like Hovis from the front though, and it seemed to be more of an expo so I just thought . . . . In my defense, I remember his mum going ballistic on Facebook when she had taken him to some sort of jumping event (yeah, I know) and heard some woman saying “look, somebody’s brought a Shire horse!”) I thought the implication was that he couldn’t jump, but now I see that the problem was having the wrong breed.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
I didn’t get past the third paragraph of Hovis’ Diary and I can’t stop laughing…”pass the brain bleach”. My God, what a sense of humor has Mum. I agree with Hovis totally on disliking this hot weather too. Thank you Max once again for brightening the day with Hovis’ adventures. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Thanks for the weekly visit from Hovis!
Hovis, I agree with you about staying clear of “the hot bits of the world”! The weather here has been oppressive; although, today was an unusually pleasant day for July in NC — lower than average humidity. YAY!
Lots of Hugs and Love
Max
Sheena. Very big race weekend if the weather cooperates. Hoping for a win by your Toast. Osborne discussed use of Lasix in his diary and has no problem with using it to help Toast. Toast appears to like it at Belmont. Queen’s Plate is on this Sunday at Woodbine. Ramsays have the favorite: We Miss Artie. Uncle Johnny is riding Tower of Texas, also a contender. Isn’t the Eclipse on this weekend?
Free the Moose on the 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!! Thank you soooooooooooo much for the beautiful pictures of the babies!!! Breath taking Ziconic and the princess!!!!

July 4 Cherokee Devotional
“Let our objective be our country, our whole country, and nothing but our country. And, by the blessing of God, may the country itself become a vast and splendid monument, not of oppression and terror, but of wisdom and peace and of liberty, upon which the world may gaze with admiration forever.” Daniel Webster spoke those words, and he knew that America would have fine troops, great leaders, and excellent equipment, a combination that stands for freedom. Even though freedoms have been stretched to the limits in some areas, we operate on the premise that this is America and it still stands as an example to countries everywhere of what it means to be free. President Eisenhower said that whatever America hoes to bring to pass in the world must first come to pass in the hearts of the American people. It has, and it will as long as we ask God to bless America.
Every part of this soil is sacred in the estimation of my people.

Thank you so much for posting a picture of Ziconic! He is so beautiful, and I LOVE those chestnuts with white markings. I want to hold on the hope that he may be ready to run at two, and then win the Triple Crown….
( I had such hopes this year, only to have them dashed. :)
Kathy
Thank you for these fantastic shots of Ziconic, Team Z! He looks marvelous, such a big boy! Looking forward to more on him. Happy 4th everyone. God bless the USA!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Doesn’t Ziconic look fantastic? And Z Princess is growing in leaps and bounds! They grow up so fast!!! I am glad to have the day off. I’ll be chilling with Steve and the pups. We’ll barbecue ribeye steaks for dinner tonight. We’ll be home to comfort the dogs when the firecrackers and fireworks are going off. Holly freaks out at the noise and Nikko gets pretty scared. Sugar takes it all in stride. Such a brave girl! All seems well with the FB furbabies. I hope you have a lovely day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Thank you so very much for the new photos of Ziconic and Z14, our beautiful Princess! Both are so alarmingly gorgeous and strong and healthy looking. I will be definitely looking forward to more details of your visit with Queen Zenyatta and I’m grateful once again for the privilege you provide of seeing them here on this site. Thanks!!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Oh, my gosh!!! “Baby” Ziconic is a HORSE! Unbelievable. Thank you so much, LE and Team Z for sharing these pictures. Zenny, you have done yourself proud, as always.
Happy 4th everyone, including our overseas Dumplings. After all, July 4th is on everyone’s calendar, even if it isn’t Independence Day in most areas. Happy 4th hugs to all. Stay safe, everyone, and be careful out on the roads.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Max–thanks, as always, for updating us on the perils of Hovis. Life is certainly full of challenges for the big, misunderstood guy.
LoriW (So. Cal.)
I’m SOOO thrilled with these new photos…..Zi looks incredible & so mature already, and

Sheena. The page would not open for your story, but I did read one about the naming ceremony. This is not some ordinary warship. It’s an aircraft carrier. I love aircraft carriers. This one is The Queen Elizabeth.
Free the Moose on the 4th of July. Independence for the Moose.

happy 4th of july thank u for the pictures still trying to get my mind wrapped around ziconic the princess is priceless
marilyn braudrick
These horses, Zenny and her family, are the living magical raw material that legends are made of. How fortunate we all are that the Mosses, Shirreffs, and Lanes End are allowing us to participate in this . I can hardly catch my breath.
Separately, How truly fabulous that we were given a chance to honor Zenny’s feisty loving friend, Tasty Temptation. Her love for Zenny was unlike anything I’ve ever seen and she carried it with her always. Horses never forget. The tribute to Tasty was such an honorable thing. It gave us all the closure we so very much needed. All I can say to you all, team Z, is Thank you, Thank, Thank you!!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
No words to describe the magnitude of this holiday treat!! Ziconic is absolutely gorgeous and regal looking there in his paddock, and Princess Z . . . well, WHAT an adorable little filly she is!! Thanks so much to Tyler and the rest of Team Z and the folks at Lane’s End for this great post and for continuing to include all of us in the lives of Zenny and her children.
Happy 4th to everyone. Have a safe and fun day. Thinking of those of you along the Atlantic coast and hoping that Arthur is not causing serious issues in your lives.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
What magnificent babies Z has.
Thanks for thinking of us on the east coat.. All of the people living right on the coastline are getting the worst of it I think. We, inland, have had rain all day today, frequently heavy, so flooding in some places. Still terribly humid. Supposed to be sunny tomorrow. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ann in NC:
Thinking of you and hoping you’re not feeling effects of this hurricane. Stay safe. Love and Hugs to all of you, JB
Ann NC
Thanks, JB. Good bye, Arthur.
Just a bit of clean up for us, a few wind gusts bringing down trees and limbs.
The coast is carrying on, hurricane flags down, party flags up!
Love and hugs. Happy 4th weekend and racing for all!
Stella Bagwell in South Texas
Ziconic looks incredible. I can’t imagine how impressive he’s going to be as a two year old! And the Princess—what a lovely doll she is! She’s going to make all the colts move out of her way!
Thank you so much for sharing the photos. We feel as though Zenyatta and her family is a part of our family, too.
Happy 4th of July to all!
