On Friday, August 12, Zenyatta was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Team Z attended the ceremony at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion, and owners Jerry and Ann Moss accepted the award on Zenyatta’s behalf.
We toured the museum and met a number of fans who were in town for the festivities. Fans watched the ceremony live from our “Belles of the Hall” viewing party that was complete with mini horse versions of Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra. View the “Belles of the Hall” recap here.

Just wanted to share a cute happening here last evening. We almost always go out on the west side of the house and sit on our favorite swinging bench while watching the sunset each evening. There is a tall cedar tree that just touches one side of the bench, and often a bird or a few birds will roost in it at night. Last night, my husband arrived first and sat down. While I was still walking over to the bench, a baby roadrunner ran up from behind and caught up with me. We strolled side by side until we reached the bench. Then he hopped right up into the tree and climbed to his roosting place. So cute. We all watched the sunset from our “perches”.

At Long Last–A TRAVELLER UPDATE– First of all, I must apologize for taking so long to post. I’m sure I have mentioned before that I need to post at work, since, at home, I am working with only a mini iPad,on which it takes FOREVER to type out a message. (I actually have a beautiful Apple laptop, which my daughter,Dana, whom some of you met at the BC 2012, gave me when she bought her new one. However–it is so hard for me to work with, being used to PC’s, that I can’t do ANYTHING with it. I’ll take it to the BC and get some more lessons from her afterwards.)
Traveller is doing really well!! After spending the first month home in the stall, except for being hand-walked, having Barnaby staying by her day and night, we turned her out into the small pasture, more like a pen, really, which is attached to Barnaby’s half of the loafing shed. He slept in her side of the shed, which is connected to the medium pasture, where he spent his days. That way, they could talk and touch over the fence and see each other all day. She was to stay there for the second month. However, she was getting really stir crazy in the small pen, so, after two weeks, we let her into the medium pasture with Barnaby to see if she would run too much in there. She was quiet and mostly wanted to graze, so, for the next two weeks they were in there together.
Now, they have the run of all of the pastures and are now sleeping in their own beds again. It was very funny–the first day that they had the run of the whole pasture, Barnaby moved right back into HIS side of the loafing shed ! He wanted his OWN bed back again.
Last weekend, Sue actually rode Traveller, just at a walk, for a few minutes each day. She was very good but seemed unsure. The vet said she should probably just work on the line for awhile yet and get built up a little more. Sue is ponying her every day, riding Barnaby. He has been very patient with that, as it is a bit boring for him. Now that we have found out that it will be another three weeks, or so, before Sue can ride, we explained to him that it will be about the same time that he HAS been doing it,before he can quit, and, that it is part of her “medicine ” for getting well, he has gone about it with renewed vigor. If this sounds funny, I must tell you that, if I were to tell you about all of the things I have told him recently, that he understands and acts upon, you would be simply amazed!! This past two months has been a great time of learning, and bonding, for ALL of us.
Traveller is looking almost normal now and the doctors say that her recovery has been “textbook” and that it has been one of the most rapid they’ve seen. She seems happy as a clam and is surely loving all of the extra attention–not to mention the twice daily bran mashes she has been getting !! They are both loving the twice daily visits and all of the extra goodies and loves. We are all so blessed that she is still with us and so thankful for all of the good wished and prayers which have come our way—Thanks to ALL !!!
Have been loving the wonderful pics of Zenny and her celebration–what a fabulous day that must have been. Congratulations to ALL of the great Z Team !!
Am anxiously awaiting news of “little Big Red–our precious Zi–so hope all is well with him!!
How about Chromies race???? I only got to see the replay, as my mini iPad, now won’t get the live videos from Cal Racing. Was watching with the tears pouring down. Wasn’t he just incredible—WOW !!
Elizabeth in NM–was so touched by your post about the baby roadrunner–just love hearing about your wildlife encounters there. We have a lot of them here too. There is a coyote that lives in or near our pasture and he trots by like he is ours. The horses are so used tohim, they don’t turn a hair ! A herd of about a thousand sheep went by on the road the other day, moving from place to place–they are always transfixed by that sight and those sounds Tis the season for that–in October we will have the Trailing of the Sheep Festival, when there is a big parade here ending with about 2000 sheep parading right down Main Street ! CBS Sunday Morning has featured it a couple of times.
Love and thanks to all from Boss Mare Sue, Barnaby John and Traveller–as well as yours truly. Sweet Dreams to everyone, especially our sweet Zenny !!

Dear Sue,
Loved your Traveller and Barnaby update! Don’t blaim Barnaby for wanting his own ‘bed’ back! I always like the ‘right’ side of the bed myself. So glad Traveller is much better. with love, Elizabeth
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sue Noel,
So happy to hear from you! I am both relieved and elated to hear that Traveller is doing so well. Undoubtedly, she has had the best of nurses with Barnaby, Boss Sue and you! Love hearing about your conversations with Barnaby John, too. He is so intelligent, in addition to being patient, loyal and empathetic. What a guy!
I made the transition from a Dell laptop with Microsoft to an Apple MacBook Pro in 2014, and I love it. It is easy to use so I am sure you will get used to it quickly and love it, too. There is an Apple Store not too far away which is very helpful and convenient — I can talk to real people!
Give Barnaby and Traveller kisses on their noses from me, Bailey and Smudge (some Fujis and rainbow carrots would be even better).
Hugs and Love
P.S. I found some rainbow carrots at The Fresh Market; I must agree with Barnaby that they are indeed yummy!

Dear Sue Noel,
Forgot to add that I will continue to send healing thoughts and prayers for Traveller’s good health — prayers for you, Boss Mare Sue and Barnaby, too.

Dear Zenny and Zenyatta Family,
Just came in from the evening bird and bunny feeding. The baby roadrunner arrived while we were on our ‘bench’, and he (or she?) is roosted for the night. The bunnies were still munching as we quietly sneaked off and came inside. The flycatcher just landed a few minutes ago on the ceiling fan outside on our back patio – his usual place, so all is well. I meant to say earlier that I loved Ann’s dress for the ceremony – especially the colors. She always looks beautiful. Seems as if nowadays I’m almost always in blue jeans or capris. Am looking forward to dressing like a ‘girl’ again soon. I usually even wear jeans to church (as do a lot of us). “Dressing up” in New Mexico usually means wearing your best pair of jeans. But I think we’re going to Santa Fe soon, so I might wear sundresses while there. Too bad we’re not like Zenny who wears the same ‘frock’ everyday and looks gorgeous! (not to mention, she gets to roll in the grass without getting grass stains). I think I’m getting a bit too chatty about ‘fashion’.
Hope everyone has a good night’s sleep. with love, Elizabeth

Dear Kathy,

August 24 Cherokee Devotional
Our feelings have been known to betray us in the past. We cried when we didn’t want to; we laughed in all the wrong places. We felt intense anger and fear and joy, always believing that nothing could change the way we feel. We believe we could never love more than we do-or hate worse. But every day brings a greater intensity, a new power to love more deeply and devotedly. And then we find new levels of disgust for what we cannot bear. One day we are stronger and more rested than another day. One day we can be angry enough to do what we would not consider at another time.
We learn to rely on our feelings, but our feelings leave us vulnerable and unprotected. We need more than feelings by which to live our lives. When we have principles, we no longer need to depend on how we feel. Instead, we can depend on what we believe. The Spirit will guide us.
The great sea has set me adrift, it moves me as a weed in a great river.

Dear Kathy:My feelings have always betrayed me but I have never cried when I didn’t want to.I am not one to cry very often any way A lovely day here but very hot in Hovisland! So sad about the earthquake in Umbria. Some towns and villages flattened the death toll will surely rise and a young packpacker has been stabbed to death in Queensland at a hostel another critically injured.Seems terrorist related. The little girl involved in the incident in Cornwall last weekend in which her father drowned has now died. All of this could have been avoided with some common sense.
Blue is back at the Dyfi today doing some nestorations. The Glaslyn chicks didn’t like her at all but at least Tegid had a peaceful day.Poor Felix has been put on a strict diet after visiting the vet too many treats from the commuters I’m afraid.Brutus the Morrison’s cat has been staying out a lot too and his owner is worried because he is on a special diet for his kidneys.Did you see the story about Nils Olav the penguin? So heartwarming. If you go on you-tube you can him getting knighted back in 2008 he is now a brigadier as well.Lun-Lun the panda at Atlanta zoo is having twins again!I hope this works today one of my cables got loose yesterday and the air turned blue!!!!Mango is getting short of money for her chairs but a lot have donated.Little Cakees posted a message back in June she is being looked after by her sissee.I hope Ray is feeling a little better.Continued prayers for him and Cheryl.arry was relaxing in the sun yesterday.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
Oh dear, I hope Hovis can stay reasonable cool. So sad to hear of all the devastation in Italy. Sorry to hear of the stabbing in Queensland. Very sad to hear the little girl has also died. As you say, it could have been avoided. Blue seems very happy. Poor Glaslyn chicks. So glad Tegid had a peaceful day. Sorry, Felix, too many treats can catch up with all of us! I hope Brutus will stay closer to home! Haven’t heard of Nils Olav. Will look for him. A brigadier? Impressive! Congratulations, Lun-Lun! Very sorry to hear Mango’s funds are getting low. Surely people will step up and donate. Her cause is so important. I hope Little Cakees is doing well. Ray and Cheryl are hoping to get Ray admitted in the ER at Loma Linda Hospital and then be seen by the surgeon and have a date set for surgery. Ray is very weak and in a lot of pain. Thank you for praying! Glad Larry was able to relax in sunshine yesterday! Have a good ump Day! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Communication Breakdown: Castellano, Agent Parting Ways
by Paulick Report Staff | 08.25.2016
Javier Castellano, Eclipse Award winning jockey the past three years, is splitting with longtime agent Matt Muzikar at the end of the current Saratoga meet, Daily Racing Form reported on Wednesday.
“Any relationship needs good communication,” Castellano was quoted as saying, “and we didn’t have it; that’s part of the problem.”
http://www.paulickreport.com/news/people/communications-breakdown-castellano-agent-parting-ways/
From article:
The communication issue apparently came to a head over Castellano’s mount in Saturday’s Travers. Daily Racing Form reports Castellano gave leading trainer Chad Brown a commitment to ride Gift Box in the race, but trainer Todd Pletcher named Castellano on Belmont Stakes runner-up Destin.

Thoreau told us that each person can interpret another’s experience only by his own. For example, the pond reflects a day of blue skies, but when the sky is misty and gray, that too is reflected. The same pond reflects different conditions. So it is with us.
Trouble begins when we cannot understand our own experience-often because we don’t want to. Instead, we focus on others. We watch how they behave, which may be totally different from anything we’ve ever experienced. Their actions and reactions may not personally apply to us, but we are in danger of believing they do. Instead of focusing on others, begin to study your own reflection, your own experiences. Understand yourself so you can then better understand others.
The sky blesses me, the earth blesses me. Up in the sky I cause the spirits to dance.
-Cree Round Dance
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy.I don’t think I’d ever cause the spirits to dance!Cloudy and humid here today. It was the hottest day of the year in the UK yesterday 93F in Suffolk and 5 young men on a day trip to Camber Sands drowned I heard they were from Sri Lanka on a day out not used to the tides maybe.Over 250 have died in Umbria now and many still missing. The buildings there are centuries old.
Blue is on the dyfi as usual and Tegid is annoyed!W8 went awol yesterday from Glaslyn but has returned safely Mrs G still remains.Felix has finished her 5K challenge and is sleeping it off.She got a lot more treats even though she’s on a diet!
Did you see the story about Bruno the dog who belongs to the town of Longville He reminds me so much of Hamish MacHamish the cat from St Andrews.
Carl,Charlotte, Valegro and Barney were on our Breakfast show this morning.I had no idea they had to travel to Liége before flying to Rio and Valegro had to wear those white stretch stockings because his legs swell when airborne. It was touching to read about Nick Skelton in H&H today he will retire when Big Star(Henry)does.
Call me Dave was tucking into his fish and chips while holidaying in Cornwall and nobody recognised him! Gladstone has many traingate jokes up.Jeremy Corbyn’s stunt really backfired when Richard Branson posted the video from Virgin trains.Wimbley has trabeled to New Mexico (maybe they could bisit Mango and Elizabeth too)they move on to Alaksa tomorrow.I really hope your friend Ray gets help soon.Pain is so debilitating. Please tell them they are both in my prayers.I hope you have a good Friday eve.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
93 is pretty hot. Sorry you’re having to deal with it! Such a shame those 5 young men lost their lives. So tragic looking at the aftermath of that earthquake. Saw a little 8 year old girl pulled from the rubble alive on the news this morning. Sorry Tegid is annoyed by Blue! W8 will probably take off for good before long. Glad the 5K is over for Felix. Treats and diets are a vicious circle! I did see the story about Bruno. He definitely enjoys making his rounds! Would have loved to have seen the program with Carl, Charlotte and Valegro! I’ll look for that story on Nick Skelton. Poor Call me Dave! That’s embarrassing that he wasn’t recognized! Will look for those traingate jokes. I did see that Wimbley went to NM. Yes, a visit with Mango would be in order. I’ll message you my recent communication from Cheryl. Thank you so much for praying for them. I know they will be touched! Happy Friday Eve, my dear. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
