On Friday, August 12, Zenyatta was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Team Z attended the ceremony at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion, and owners Jerry and Ann Moss accepted the award on Zenyatta’s behalf.
We toured the museum and met a number of fans who were in town for the festivities. Fans watched the ceremony live from our “Belles of the Hall” viewing party that was complete with mini horse versions of Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra. View the “Belles of the Hall” recap here.

Dear Max.The nests on the Dyfi are man-made.They were put up to attract the ospreys and I think Monty arrived in 2007/8.They want to remove Blue’s nest because of the polygamous situation there this spring. The Welsh boys are not behaving!!Same situation at Glaslyn with Aran and Blue 5F this year too.LS is still on at the Dyfi so I presume Blue is still around.Hope you are enjoying your holiday.

Thanks for the info. Good luck to Dyfi with trying to regulate wild things. Nature always finds a way. I learned this from the dinos in Jurassic Park.

Very sad about Chasing Aces. His win in his previous race was very impressive, and I had latched onto him as a very promising 2 year old. It didn’t look that bad when it happened, and the announcers said that he walked onto the van, but . . . . . :'(

We imagine a bully as someone strong and huge and glowering. But bullies come in all sizes and use various kinds of intimidation: some manipulate, some use brute force, some use words. A bully is like a tornado spinning out of control-it respects nothing: self, others, or even animals.
Eleanor Roosevelt said we cannot be bullied without our consent. Is that correct? It is true that nothing feeds a bully like having someone resist, or try not to resist. But bullies can hurt us, and we need to remember that regardless of what someone says, we are worthy, we are intelligent, we are not to blame for what someone else is doing.
The earth and myself are of one mind.
-Chief Joseph, Nez Perce
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy. On the whole I try to ignore bullies sometimes of course I can’t and I have been hurt.I was so sorry to hear about Ray last night.Such a difficult time for him and Cheryl. They are constantly in my prayers.
We are expecting a mini-heatwave again!Very humid (as in UK) today.I have no idea whether Blue has started her migration I last saw her on sunday. She may have left then.Everyone is still”at home”in Glaslyn Mrs G has found fishing difficult in the wet conditions.News of 30(05) the most dangerous part of her migration has begun crossing the Sahara. She has travelled nearly 2000 miles in 9 days.I will be on tenterhooks until we hear next.I belong to a group now called Friends of the Dyfi a nice crowd. They had posted about an Albatross called Moana from New Zealand who has taken to the air for the first time she may return home in 4-10yrs!I hope she will avoid the Ancient Mariner.I have posted the link on my timeline also a video of a man sleeping on the NY subway and a huge rat crawling over him.No it wasn’t Mr Fibbs campaigning he was busy with chocolate and they didn’t have to turtle yesterday. One of them was it Milo had a baff.Ripley the cat is fine but his brother Felix has been having tests. It would have been Hawley D’s birthday today.Mother Theresa is on her way home.Did you hear about “carpetgate”?Seems the Chinese rolled the carpet out for everyone except President Obama!Oops!Hope you have a good day back at work.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO Mango is all ready for her big trip to CA this week. She will have plenty of pretty dresses to wear.

Dear Sheena,
I am heartsick about Ray as well. Ray and Cheryl are such great people. Why does he have to suffer like that? Unfortunately none of us are immune to suffering. Thank you for your many, many prayers. Wasn’t Zoe’s Zoeism just wonderful…”Friends are kisses blown to us by angels.” I think that might be her best Zoeism ever. Loved that! Gee, Blue must be the last osprey to leave the Dyfi. Must be awfully lonely there for her! Godspeed, 30! I will look for Moana. Sounds interesting! Oh man…I hate the thought of a rat crawling over me! The chocolate treats looked pretty good, didn’t they? Nice that Fibbs had a bit of a break form the campaign trail. I saw the pic of Milo getting a baff. Somehow I can’t imagine giving a rat a bath in the sink! Glad to know Ripley is doing well. I hope Felix will be okay! Happy Birthday to Hawley D in heaven! Holly’s birthday in heaven is in 2 days. That’s good Mother Theresa is on her way home. I did hear about carpetgate. Hmmmm. I guess not everyone is a diplomat. will be anxious to see pics of Mango’s beautiful travel clothes! Have a good Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Sheena, Max, or anyone else who understands international racing: The “race card” for the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes on this coming Saturday lists a TOTAL of 51 horses!! This can’t be! First there are 20 males followed by 5 females (I know this is always how the saddle cloth numbers are assigned) followed by another alphabetical list of males and more females to a total of 51. How does this work? Is the second list the “also eligibles” in case somebody in the first list is scratched? There are certainly some very well-know names entered. Does anyone know how to obtain past performances for this race? This is a BC “win and you’re in” race.
Max
Show us the link to this race card, so that we can see to what you are refering. There are usually many nominations for a race in advance, but fewer runners on the day. There have however been races with a very large number of runners if the trainers think that their horses have a chance of winning. Ballydoyle often nominates many horses but cuts back on the day. A lot can happen between the nomination and the race. O’Brien often scratches if the turf is not suitable to a particular horse.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Max – I hope this will work. The first 26 are as I described above, and then with 27 we seem to get a second group starting with Awtaad. I realize that many more may be nominated than will actually run – I just couldn’t understand the two distinct groups of names,

Dear Sandy.Postponed is going for the Arc and I thought the Gurkha was injured. There is no chance of all those horses running.Sheena.
Max
They seem to have listed the horses by age and weight, with the older ones first. Sheena is right about The Gurhka. I think that he’s off racing at the moment. Same for a few others. Sometimes you can have only 4 who actually make it to the track. Listing of them ahead as potential racers gives a trainer options. Mullins is known for making up his mind at the last minute about which horse to race. Same for O’Brien. Ballydoyle also has the advantage of a large roster of candidates. They have many choices,
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Max. OK – well I am beginning to make a LITTLE headway as far as understanding the form is concerned. So let’s just take Highland Reel (cloth 7) as an example. It reads:
Highland Reel 49 D. 49-7. OR: 119
He’s 4 years old and his assigned weight is 9-7 (some unit of measure)?
Do you know what the 49 or the D mean or what the OR is about?
Our little fantasy handicapping group was going to use this race to learn more about possible foreign invaders for the BC, but I don’t think we can cope with so many horses (even after the drop outs) or info that we can’t follow as opposed to standard pps.
sheena.davies(wales)
Max has explained very well. There will never be that many runners on the day.I think Aidan has 7 entered in the St Leger but no doubt only 3 or 4 will run.We more often than not get the maximum field in the Grand National though which is 40 horses

The RP article says that he’s the best stallion in the world, which is probably true for turf horses. How many of those Galileo group 1 winners won on dirt? Galileo himself could not win on dirt. He lost to Tiznow and retired.

Bejarano, Prat Forge First Jockey Title Tie Since 1950

The only time Del Mar had a tie for the jockey championship was 1950, when riding legends John Longden and Bill Shoemaker deadlocked with 60 wins apiece.
Until the 77th Summer Meeting came to an end Monday when four-time defending champion Rafael Bejarano, 34, and 24-year-old rising star Flavien Prat tied with 38 wins after a dramatic final six races.

Update-good news! BGG
Jockey Patrick Valenzuela won with his first mount since February on Sunday at Ruidoso Downs, where he picked up a Quarter Horse mount in the first race. Valenzuela also was scheduled to ride in a trio of Thoroughbred races later on the card, in the fifth, eighth, and 10th races.
Valenzuela, 53, guided Linda Tee Fire ($6) to a 4 1/2-length win in the 870-yard claiming sprint. The horse is owned by a partnership that includes Mark Allen and Leonard Blach, who raced 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. Valenzuela had last ridden at Fair Grounds.
“It felt really good,” Valenzuela told Ruidoso officials Sunday. “I’ve been working a lot of horses at Santa Anita and riding the bike 20 miles a day.”

It is truly remarkable that Fancy now age 35 still nickers when she hears you approaching down the barn stairs. Except for more of a sway in her back and prominent hips now, she still gets around and can put up with the heat going way out to the furthest pasture to graze. In some ways she has taught me to just keep on going!! Our Jo is a sweet yet a bit naughty gal who does look for our company. BUT, I can not tell you enough, she should win the title for “Miss Piggy” because I have never seen such a urine saturated mess in her stall such as hers! ha Do you know she grazes out all day but she will come in to the paddock, get a drink from the trough, then go pee or poop in her stall. Geez, she has had so much time out in the pasture she could do that. We love her any way and just go through a lot of shavings and shoveling. Now, I know many close the entrance to a stall during the day, but since it is a sanctuary no one really stays on site. So they are free to come into their safe haven whenever in case of a storm etc. Jo really thinks her stall is home and a bathroom all in one. Fancy is so neat about herself. Blackie and Brownie, the goats are doin great too. My gosh, Blackie has gotten so used to me, when she wants a treat she offers her right front hoof and we have never taught her that! ha ha
Yes, I still continue to volunteer but we are so short of volunteers at times I grow weary but once I arrive it is well worth it. For the love of the horses.
I wish every one a happy fall. Just think of the color changes not winter ahead!!
hugs, Sally B

It could also apply to her loyal caregivers, too.

Sally Blank (cherishes Z and her foals)
Hi all: I got it Marshall. Thank you ALL for your comments. I could have written about the fair amount of blood I found a week ago, but yuk! I checked every animal and could not find a source, reported it to the heads. It must have been some poor animal who came by onto the paddock area or like the head volunteers said since Blackie had been limping for quite some time, it could have been an abscess too. We seldom can request a vet visit for the goats and we sure can not capture one to really check their feet. There is a limit as to how friendly they wish to become. ha
At Fancy’s age I really do get worried if I can not see her in eyes view out to the pastures when I do PM’s. There is a play wood ramp area that had been put up for the goats way prior to the development of the horse sanctuary. My heart falls to my stomach when I can not see Fancy … and I make a special effort to go look for her. I see her and I am at ease.
Moments later she comes walkin on in and sees me and nickers like she is saying “here I come do you have my feed ready!”.
This is why I still volunteer.
hugs to all, Sally B

September 7 Cherokee Devotional
When the first misty rains of autumn begin to fall, we know that great change is upon us. Like all seasons, fall moves in and out several times before it settles down to the business of coloring leaves and laying flat the tall grasses. Subtle signs hint at what we know is inevitable. Overhead, flocks of migrating pelicans turn in lazy circles, loving the dampness that is their nature. All through the woods, Virginia creeper spirals up tree trunks in colors of flame. Each season has a quality of its own, and autumn is a meditation. John Keats called it “a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.” And when we can blend with it, we become mellow and fruitful as well.
The American Indian is of the soil, whether it be the region of the forests, plains, pueblos, or mesas. He fits into the landscape, for the land that fashioned the continent also fashioned the man for his surroundings. He once grew as naturally as the wild sunflowers; he belongs just as the buffalo belongs.

Dear Kathy,Still summertime over here warm again today but unsettled weather on the way.I think you would love our climate!!I messaged the Dyfi yesterday about Blue and she did indeed leave on sunday. They have a video of her eating a flounder about 10.15am.She must be well on her way by now and we pray they all return safely next spring.I was so happy to hear of Ray’s improvement hopefully his appetite will return soon.I hope Cheryl is taking care of herself too she need her strength.
I really despair of our modern society common sense and manners have flown out of the window.Police were called to a school in Margate yesterday because the headmaster sent 50 children home who had arrived in tracksuits, trainers and skinny jeans!I wore an uniform all my schoollife and woe betide you if your tie was’nt knotted properly.Such a lack of respect and discipline.
I know you will be thinking of Angel Holly tomorrow Sadly we never knew Katie’s birthday (she was a rescue) so I only have the date she died to mourn her 10yrs next march and not a day goes by when she is not in my thoughts.Although Viktor’s videos are extremely difficult to watch what would happen to these abused animals if we all turned away?Chico is only a young cat kitten really and he deserves a 2nd chance Viktor has said not to mention euthanasia! When I think how I first saw Betsy and how happy she is now.
Zoe enjoyed her holiday weekend and much lower temps too!!Milo was having trouble with his PC.Felix is doing well on her diet and looking a million dollars.Avebury went suddenly in the end very aggressive form of cancer Andrew,Wiggy and Lily are devastated he only retired in april.Waiting news of 30(05) now crossing the Sahara as I speak.Corine (CDA’s trainer)gave me a like today!Have a good day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXo

Dear Sheena,
I’m sure I would love your climate, too! I saw the video of Blue enjoying her flounder. She’ll need all her strength to make that journey! I was much relieved that Ray improved. Steve will go visit him in the hospital tonight after work. i hope Cheryl is taking care of herself, too! I know she’s so worried about Ray but it will do him no good if Cheryl gets sick too! Absolutely many kids today do not have the respect and discipline we grew up with. I see kids all the time in the library being so rude to their parents and adult strangers. I never would have dreamed to act like that. Yes, indeed I will be thinking of my Angel Holly tomorrow. She has been in my thoughts every day. Still feeling that loss so severely. Very difficult to watch animal abuse videos and read animal abuse stories. Loving animals the way we do it’s inconceivable that there are monsters out there who abuse them. Yes, Zoe enjoyed her holiday. Loved the pic of Mommy holding her in front of the PetSmart ad with Zoe in it! Milo and his PC troubles was too funny. So glad Felix is doing well. So sad the loss of Avebury. Condolences to Andrew, Wiggy and Lily! Godspeed, 30! Congratulations on your like from Corine! I wish you a good day. Dear Judy B.,
Thank you for posting these links. Congrats to Jose Ortiz — seems success runs in the family!
Loved the article on our beloved Queen from America’s Best Racing!! Especially enjoyed John’s description of her endearing personality and kindness. Got a bit teary-eyed!
Hugs and Love

Thanks, JB.
Zenny lifts many spirits. Luv ya.

Agree with John Shirreffs. Nine more times, nine more wins for Z in that race. I still think that she won it. I just don’t care what the stats say.

Dear Marshall, Ann and Max:
Glad you enjoyed the article on our Queen as much as I did. Max, I agree with you totally; as far as I’m concerned, Z is 20 for 20. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sandy.Highland Reel will be carrying 9st 7lbs.I don’t know much of the racing terms as I do not bet OR could mean Overall rating maybe??Hugs Sheena

Possibly OR is Official Rating?
I saw that on another line-up.

You need the footnotes to determine those initials. That particular racing card has now disappeared. Maybe for an update.
Sheena. You are wise like The Queen E. She doesn’t bet either. As she once said in relation to your own Welsh racing star, horses are full of surprises.

Oh,yes there are not many certainties in racing as we all know.I remembered after I wrote the post last night about the Gurkha’s surgery in the summer Paul Rhodes said then it was doubtful he would race again.Hefferman will be riding Idaho in the St Leger so Ryan can concentrate on Leopardstown.17 left in the Irish Champion so far.Sheena.

Sheena. Speaking of the pride of Wales, this article is mostly about Frankel, but there is a bit at the end about Al Kazeem. He’s not producing quantity, but the quality is there. Colt is reportedly a real looker like the sire. Hope that Al has more luck next year.

Thanks for this news about Frankel. If only Sir Henry were here to his beloved horse doing so well as a stallion.I hope Al has better luck this time around too.I always say it’s all about the quality!Andy Murray has just lost to the Japanese player.A few tantrums from Mr Murray!Sheena

Dear Max and Sheena:
Max, thanks for this article. Frankel’s babies are certainly living up to expectations.
Sheena, I think Bobby Frankel and Sir Henry are somewhere on a cloud smiling, happy and so proud of Frankel. Love and Hugs, JB

Just read that Tara Moon is in foal to Al Kazeem. She currently has a Mastercraftsman foal at her side. She’s 18 and Al has had fertility issues. I’d say that things are looking pretty good for Al and Tara.
