August 18 Cherokee Devotional
There is always something beautiful when we look for it-and always something wrong when we expect it. Even though experience takes us through territory we would not have chosen, we can always learn something. This is one of those times when rainfall is light and gardens need extra attention, but along the fences the sunflowers are perfect. They show us how to thrive when circumstances are not ideal. Straight and tall and exceedingly strong, these summer flowers prove they can take the heat.
Look for the beauty and expect things to take a turn for the better. They will-just as difficult times in the past have given way to better times. This time of trial, like others before it, will be forgotten.
As a present, anything we have you can take with you…but the land.

Dear Zenny and Fan Family,
Am trying to catch up on everyone’s news. So wonderful about Rachel A and Zenny’s celebration. Everyone’s news about the Olympics, especially the equestrian updates are wonderful. So inspiring. BGG – count on your for all of the equine news – thank you so much. Kathy, love your devotional just above (will catch up on all of the rest of them too). About a week ago, I was taking photos of the sunflowers near us that are about 10 feet tall (maybe taller) – so amazingly beautiful with such happy faces. Judy, Sheena, and Max, ~ your comments about the Olympics are wonderful – and informative. Have been (as always) keeping Glesni and the ospreys in my prayers. We haven’t been up to Wyoming yet this summer, so haven’t seen the osprey’s nests, but we will go in September and on the way will check on the ones in northern New Mexico. We went hiking yesterday, and my husband photographed a baby owl – beautiful with browns and oranges, very large and all fuzzy with baby feathers – very cute hard to imagine they are predators (but we all have to eat!). Hope our Queen Z and her Ziconic and Coz and Team Z and everyone here in her fan family all have a wonderful Thursday. with love, Elizabeth

TDN Q & A: Ahmed Zayat
By Gary King Wednesday, August 17, 2016
The recent Arqana August Yearling Sale witnessed a flurry of international activity. One name that jumped off the list of buyers was that of Zayat Stables. Ahmed Zayat, an Egyptian-born entrepreneur, has tasted plenty of success since entering Thoroughbred racing in 2005. American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile), America’s first Triple Crown winner in 37 years, carried his famous silks throughout an historic campaign. TDN’s Gary King chatted to Ahmed about his purchases at Arqana, and the future direction of Zayat Stables.

Ahmed Zayat in interview:
“It’s going to be Zayat Stables in our silks, expanding it, with solid deep pockets and strong institutional support. Bringing good international bloodlines to the U.S. is only one part of it. We may also consider breeding in some international markets more than racing. “

Judy,
Thanks for the post. Mike and Songbird are quite a pair. She is something very special. We have been so lucky to see so many great fillies and mares over the last 10 years or so. Kudos to Rick Porter for not running her against the boys yet. After all, Serena Williams is a great champion and we don’t ask her to play the men!

Just in case you haven’t seen or read the news, Our Cozmic One has recorded a workout of 49.00 for 4 furlongs handily. I don’t know how good that is, but at least we can all hope he may have learned a lesson or two and is beginning to train for a race in the near future. Also congrats to all who have connections with any of the winners mentioned on this page. Also here’s hoping all the birds I’ve been reading about are good. Finally as always, Good Night to Zenny the Queen, Coz, Ziconic, Princess and Baby Z. May you all sleep beautifully on a bed of fluffy clouds.

Hovis has had quite an eventful week and has the scars to prove it.Firstlly he has to”congratulate”Viagra for his performance.Oh,boy that dude should wear a tutu. He’s going to have words with Charlotte what’s-her-face.Then the 2ft Granny rode him and he had a great time with the French lady.Dolly must have”been in the mood” because she attacked poor Hovey-Wovey!!Mind you,he fought back.Boss Lady was in hysterics!!I have posted his photo on my FB. You can imagine what Karen had to say!Safe trips to all horses both sides of the pond this week.Lady Aurelia is in the Prix Morny.Sheena

Dear Sheena,
Thank you for our Hovis update. Viagra in a tutu? I think NOT! lol Poor Hovis, things have gotten pretty rough with Dolly! Hope his nose heals quickly. TGIF, everyone. Safe trips for all horses and jockeys running this weekend.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Poor Hovis!
That Dolly is a real tough cookie — imagine biting the “Feathered One”! Dolly needs a disposition adjustment methinks. She likes him, and then she treats him badly. She is such a mercurial girl.
It is amusing that the horses are so shamed by their owners’ verbal chastisements. I understand why the Boss Lady was laughing. ?
Thank you, Sheena!

Dear Kathy. The rain has arrived here not too bad so far but promises gales tomorrow!Tegid may have heard the forecast because he hasn’t been seen for over 24hrs.Maybe it’s because Blue has moved in kitchen sick ‘n’all! She’s going to have a great time with Monty until he leaves.Mrs G is still at Glaslyn last seen around 6pm.As I told Judy last night a totally different routine at Manton Bay Maya has never left first .Sometimes she may be the last to go!Karen has arrived back from Scotland and will survey the further damage to Hovey’s face more pics expected.Viagra would never behave in that manner! It’s pouring at York now
I waited up until 2am to see our Jade win her gold then Bolt was on so it was gone 3am by the time I got to bed.I hear George Osborne is in Vietnam on his holidays. We don’t get to see much of him nowadays.Have you see Wimbley’s ode to a pea? These ratties are so talented and such a beautiful poem on Zoe’s page about the rainbow bridge.Manthlet is back from Vienna and swimming under the stars until 2am.I visited Max &Mia today first time in ages such cute videos.I think it was on Joey’s page I saw the cat with 4 ears.Such a lot of rescue stories from Lousiana.Human nature at it’s best. The Brazilians are rather annoyed with your swimmers. The less said the better!Ray is bringing out a calendar again again this year .He was a real cute puppy.A great photo of Boo’s human sister. She is growing fast.Hope you have a lovely day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
I am rather annoyed with our swimmers, too! This was totally uncalled for. If you are plastered and do something stupid, don’t lie about it. Sorry, Mr. Lochte and company, but your behavior was appalling! You have a lot of apologizing to do, IMHO. ?
I am disappointed since I thought better of Lochte. Oh well, maybe they have all learned a lesson — hope so!
Hugs and Love
shirleeinindy
Marshall,
You said it right. Our swimmers did so well and then to have this behavior cast such a poor light on the. Lochte is 32 not 22. Way too old for this type of behavior.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Shirlee,
I definitely agree! Ryan Lochte should have matured by now.
What an unnecessary mess they created.
Have a good weekend!
Hugs and Love
