Guess 14Z’s Birthday!

Zenyatta’s War Front foal is almost here, and we thought we’d add a little fun to the wait. From now through April 1, we invite you to guess the date and time, to the minute, that 14Z will arrive. The person with the closest guess (without going over) will receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the new foal signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. The winner will be announced following the birth of the foal.

This official Zenyatta.com contest was inspired by the unofficial contest that is taking place in the “Zenyatta’s Waiting Room 2014” Forum discussion.

      BGG: Thanks for the info on Mike’s day on Saturday. I was watching HRTV and watched most of his races and knew he was on a streak, but didn’t have the complete picture.

      I think he has a chance to win with both of his mounts at Sunland today and think Midnight Hawk is due for a good one.

Even a loss would simply be a delay to this crow. It is a matter of how deeply we believe in what we are doing. Telling a winner that something won’t work-just won’t work!

      Sheena and JudyB. Just read that Atlantic Canada is to get up to 18 inches of snow by next Wednesday. Snow also threatens US east coast, namely Rhode Island, home to JudyB and her horses. They are expected to get up to 12 inches. Nerissa has not yet survived the polar vortex. This is spring?

      Good news for Morpheus. I tracked him down in Florida. He seems to be taking to US racing. He was 1 out of 17 in his last workout. Think that he’s working on dirt, but I am not certain. No matter, he’s doing well.

        The temps are supposed to stay above freezing and forecast now is for rain. I hope they’re right. I know Angela has had enough of this Winter moving the horses back and forth so often. Hope you escape the brunt of it too.

    Good Lord’s day. I got a kick out of Fubu watching the rat and the gerbil. So cute! Good luck to him at the vet’s. Marty is one handsome rat. I admit it, I’m a fan of a rat! Who would have believed that?!! You are right, Secretariat won the Preakness on my wedding day. He was the first horse I fell in love with and I haven’t looked back since! I had trouble accessing Zeus, too, but all seems okay now. Very sad about Little Cakee’s mama. I hope there are people around who will take care of her when the time comes. Have a beautiful Sabbath.       Sheena. There is nothing better than a UK high tea. If I were there, I would like to join you as I dearly love chocolate in all of its forms. However, in honor of the birthday horse, we are having red velvet cake, the closest that we could get to the color of the Moosie. We will also be singing Happy Birthday and reciting the war chant of all Moose fans worldwide: Free the Moose! Neigh!

    Feel certain there will be more whistle blowers in the industry as a result ot the Asmussen affair. Several years ago, we observed abuse of a horse in the saddling stall at Hollywood Park. When we reported the incident to the Racing Officials/Board of Stewards, they knew the trainer involved before we mentioned his name. We did receive follow-up calls from the CHRB. The point is those in the industry know where the problems are. What will they do about it? Remains to be seen.

      Unfortunately, the email I shared regarding this whole ugly mess had some people feeling if PETA is involved how accurate could it be (yes, we all agree PETA has been know to be extreme!), and if the NYTimes is involved that’s makes it double negative… HOWEVER, what some people fail to “see” is there are legit reasons this was brought to the forefront. Period. Regardless of whom did it!

      Don’t shove this under the rug and give PETA and the NYTimes the “benefit of the doubt”. Shameful if anyone sticks their head in the sand just because it was them who reported the ugly news… Words like “edited” were thrown out there. Botton line: THE HORSES COME FIRST!!!

    Judy, you know how I love the Britcoms on PBS, well the other night on Judy Dench’s show As Time Goes By, I heard her say they were going to have a Clean Out. That was so cute, just love to hear her talk.

    Well I think in Asmussen’s case we’ll take a “Clean Up” or a “Clean Out”

    Sandy in CLEVELAND :-), before too much time goes by, I wanted to respond that yes I do understand the Cleveland significance as regarding the Steelers. However, my sister, still in the ‘Burgh, has told me that these days the Baltimore Ravens are the dastardly rivals of the Steelers, more so than your team. Perhaps Sue knows more about those details. Enjoyed your response about the Steeler Nation, Sue!

    On a more normal note (considering the recent news), we have visited Cowtown recently–yesterday and last week. Yesterday we went to the barn twice, just for fun. Cowtown is in fine fettle, willing to be smooched, caressed and of course eat carrots.

    Looking forward to the Sunland races later on. And, of course to “50-1” sometime soon I hope. Not sure when it will be in a neighborhood near me. (In the meantime there’s always the Muppets! Trying to get Rod to join me on that one…maybe if I told him I have now made this public….)

    Hi Zsters,
    Have been off the trail again, getting caught up. Just SICK about Honor Code he was going to be my derby pick…..bet LE and Indy are sick too. Hope he heals
    quick and can get some good races this summer, maybe even the Preakness.

    Have been following this Ausmussen mess and hope IF he is guilty he pays the price and any other trainers too, but I do not have a good opinion of PETA, as I’m involved with my local humane society and there are many awful stories about them and their tactics. And please know they are NO FANS of racing.     Many feel they are not above doctoring videos either.

    Have to send CONGRATS out to my Badgers on reaching the Sweet Sixteen seeing as everyone is touting their teams. I also will root for the Wildcats as Kentucky is my adopted state.

      Thanks, Sue. I have had some similar impressions of PETA, but did not know the vast extent of their killings of animals, since they market themselves as “rescuing” animals. They seem to be a money-making machine, which unfortunately seems to encourage them to hide what really goes on.

    Dear Max.Yes, we love our high tea and sunday roasts in the UK.Would love to have you come to share my teatime treat.Sad to see none of Moosie’s followers wished him a happy birthday,he should visit the Z blog we all love him.
    Ballydoyle had a lot of horses exercising at the Curragh today including Quija Board’s colt Australia who has an entry in the 2,000guineas and Verrazano Aidan wants him to get used to the European way of racing,think he may go to RA.
    Frankel was so fortunate to go to Juddmonte and Sir Henry.I know a few thought Henry wrapped him in cotton wool but he knew Frankel best of all and managed his racing career perfectly.Kauto was also blessed with a brilliant owner and trainer,pity about the short jockey!!!Free the Moose.Sheena.

      Sheena. I hear that Kingman is on the list for the 2000. You’ll have to educate us on the contenders. I’m not up to date on the 3 year olds. Is Joyeuse in the 1000?
      Cecil did right by Frankel. Not taking him to the Arc was a very good move. The Arc has taken down many a fine horse, such as Nijinsky. It was also a good idea to give the BCC a pass. A lot of horses do not travel well, and Frankel might have been one of them. Cecil also once said that he did not like taking his horses to the US. One must act in the best interest of the particular horse.
      Did you read that the alleged short one thinks that he might try training flat horses when he retires as a jockey? Given those comments at Cheltenham, I wonder if he will get many owners on side with the concept of replaceable horses. Most of them see their horses as members of the family. I recently saw a photo of the Aga Khan working at his desk with the windows open and his horses leaning over the sill to look at his work and give him a kiss. They were not outside of the door. The Aga Khan was smiling.

    Dear Max.I don’t like the sound of that snow storm you are going to have this week, the guy with the snow plough will be busy outside your place.Keep safe and warm.
    I haven’t heard much of Lady Cecil’s plans since the old website closed down.Have heard about Kingman and Kingston Hill.

      Here is the link to that photo of the Aga Khan. You might have to scroll down to see it. It’s the fourth photo. The horses are lining up to kiss the Aga Khan. In most of the photos with his horses, he is kissing them or they are kissing him. He must have a different opinion of horses than the short one?

      Tiz, thanks for the two posts. It was nice to see Mr. Porter admitting that there were problems in the sport and great to see Michael win his first race. What a smile on his face. Also, my genes would have let me be a jockey (5’2″) but in my day the field was not open to women like it is now.

        unfortunately both my parents and extended family are near or over the six foot mark – brother is six foot four I think and dad’s pretty close, mom has to be around five ten… tall extended family… no chance for me lol

      Sheena. The Moose has tweeted his thanks for his birthday treats. He’s a very shrewd equine Says that he may be 10, but he has not yet had much “actual” racing. He’s therefore not tired out and ready to retire. He’s looking forward to October. The Moose is more than a horse. He’s started a way of life.
