Zenyatta’s War Front foal is almost here, and we thought we’d add a little fun to the wait. From now through April 1, we invite you to guess the date and time, to the minute, that 14Z will arrive. The person with the closest guess (without going over) will receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the new foal signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. The winner will be announced following the birth of the foal.
This official Zenyatta.com contest was inspired by the unofficial contest that is taking place in the “Zenyatta’s Waiting Room 2014” Forum discussion.
Enter your guess below. Upon entry you will receive a confirmation email from us. This contest is open to Zenyatta fans worldwide. Please note that we will only accept one entry per person. Multiple entries will disqualify you from the contest.
Happy guessing!

Once again my heart is lifted by the joy of watching the kindness and generosity of Team Zenyatta unfolding in action. How wonderful of Team Z to create a contest to quess the date and time of Z14’s arrival in this world!!! To offer a signed photo as a prize for the correct guess, well, that is just beyond generosity – it shows that they really do understand how much we love Zenyatta. And always will love Zenyatta and all of her progeny. Thank you so very much for this great opportunity to become involved in the life of our Queen. Team Z – all of you – are the absolute best!!! Thank you from deep in my heart.

Dear Sheena,
Well, I guess “First Day of Spring” is often just a state of mind. It’s bound to be nice soon. Loved Marty’s baked potato imitation. He’s a cutie! Good news about Fubu. Treats from England??? I’m impressed! Great Boo and Buddy pic. And did you see the Gund Boo and Buddy in the background? “Human” takes great pains in posing! I submitted my birthday for Z14’s birth. April 21st at 5:45 AM. That’s when I was born. I think the foaling will take place before, but I thought it would be fun to guess the same date and time I arrived. Do you know who else shares my same birth day and month? Queen Elizabeth!!! Have a great day. Hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Kathy

There’s a lot of things with which I’m blessed,
Though my life’s been both sunny and blue,
But of all my blessing’s,this one’s the best;
To have friends like you.
And I can think of nothing in life,
That I could morely wisely do
than know friends,
And be a friend
And love friends… like you.Author unknown

I hate to bring negativity to this joyous site, but you all need to go to Bloodhorse.com and read the article about the mistreatment of horses in Steve Asmusssen’s barn by both Steve and Scott Blasi, especially Nehro. Someone went undercover for 4 months with them at Churchill and Saratoga. They even videoed and recorded what they saw and heard. After the way Mr. Zayat cared for Paynter, I cannot believe he was aware of the treatment Nehro received. Such shame cast on the industry. Thank God for people like Ann & Jerry and Zenyatta’s John.
Maryp NY
Shirlee,
I did read that and I hardly know how to react of what to say it is so disturbing. I guess I wanted to believe that these well known trainers etc were caring people and wouldn’t want to tarnish their reputations but it looks like I was wrong or too naïve.
Great gratitude to those who investigate any and all animal cruelty. God bless all their efforts.

I saw this video and heard the different people talking and was just stunned.
Makes you wonder what is happening at small tracks and trainers that are not at the top?
Breaks my heart to think what is happening to the poor horses.

Dear Judy.Goodnight God bless you,LM PC HT Little Captain and all the Sweeties.I was surprised Ragdoll Mommy had’nt taken Anya to the vet she sounded really ill.One of our Top Trainers John Gosden was fined £I,000 today when one of his horses tested positive for cimetidine. It’s prescribed for reflux and peptic ulcers. One does wonder what these trainers get up to in their stables! Love and hugs SheenaX
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
I was thinking the same thing about Anya. Yes, unfortunately, our beloved horses are the victims and are at the mercy of unscrupulous humans. Very sad. Wish the Industry on both sides of the pond would do more to protect the horses. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap and all the Sweeties

Some people are are blaming PETA for all this, but if a portion of this video is true, then a real investigation needs to occur. Mr Zayat seems a good man so hopefully we’ ll get to the truth.

Just a word ….I Never….Ever….believe anything PETA says…I refuse to defend anyone that is not my place…but if PETA conducted an “investigation” it was biased and all “results” were predetermined ….only “data” supporting their position would be used…and they have been known to manufacture data in the past….their adgenda has to do with eliminating all animal ownership …they are not interested in rescue/retraining/rehoming….their “kill” percentage of so-called rescues is around 90%…
I will take a wait and see about this….
Janet Newman
I agree with you Carol.
If it is true, then it is a shame and needs dealt with, but with PETA being the investigating body, I have some doubts on the truth as THEY present it.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Carol,
I am in agreement with you. I will wait for the facts before forming my opinion, also.
Things are seldom what they seem. I will say that Blasi, along with many others, has a foul mouth — bring on the Octagon soap (Lifebuoy isn’t strong enough)!
Take care! Hugs
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
I did not know you were a Tar Heel fan. Our Ann in NC told me. I e-mailed her when I discovered our Providence College Friars are playing the NC Tar Heels tomorrow in the NCAA Tournament, thinking she was a Tar Heel Fan. She explained that she is a Wolfpacker and you are the Tar Heels fan. I am not up on basketball, but I think the Friars will have to be on their best game to beat your Tar Heels. Love and Hugs, JB

Marshall and JB- Good old fashioned Lye soap should do the trick with that mouth!
Go team!
judy berube from Rhode Island

Good idea. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
You are correct, Ann! Lye soap would be much more effective!

Abigail_1849
Agree, Marshall. But just heard that Zayat is heading out to talk to Asmussen since he knew NOTHING about Nehro’s foot issues. And Stonestreet have just removed all of their horses from the Asmussen barn.
shirleeinindy
Carol, I understand your thoughts on this but the videos and recordings are hard to refute. I grew up in Kentucky around the business and knew that bad things happened years ago just had no idea they were still going on in a stable like Asmussens.
carol in arkansas/PACING
any video or tape can be altered seamlessly now-a-days….go to any movie playing at the show….again…
I am not taking “sides”….
I am just saying that on past record ….PETA is not to be trusted
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee and Z Fans:
Unfortunately, there have been and there are horses being mistreated by some people in the Industry. This has been the case always. As in any business, there are caring, reputable people handling horses and there are unscrupulous people handling horses. Wish the Industry would do more to protect the horses. Love and Hugs, JB
Celeste_in_TX
You are right about the agenda of PETA and it works along the same lines as HSUS. Both organizations are lobbies/fronts caring only about eliminating animals as pets or in agriculture. I have no respect for either group, so like you suggested I will wait for more facts before jumping on any bandwagon led by them. I will say that I do not harbor any fondness for Mr. Asmussen, but I do not believe he is a Hall of Fame trainer.
shirleeinindy
Celeste, As a member of the HSUS, I have to defend them, especially our local shelter. It is a no kill facility, where animals are well cared for and every effort is made to find them good homes. My two beloved cats came from there and I could not ask for better pets. Their only agenda is to protect mostly dogs and cats and to lobby for spay/neuter for of them.
Betsy Bloom
Despite the shared “humane society” name, your local shelter almost certainly is not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States, or HSUS. This “non-profit” organization provides only 1 percent of its funding toward shelters, which is why it earned a D rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. Your local shelter might be doing some very good work with spay/neuter and pet adoptions, but that’s not been with HSUS help.
DebraZ
I aree as well. I remember when PETA decided that dog shows were cruel. They only stopped letting dogs loose when they realized that hopelessly lost dogs were getting hit by cars. I don’t believe much that they say.
Anne from Paramount
Hi Zenyatta! I hope you don’t mind if while you are Our Queen in Waiting, I join in –belatedly–the fun with Sandy and Sue and the Steelers. (Now there’s a singing group!) I am– ahem–originally from Pittsburgh, so it’s no secret where my allegiance lies. Rod is from Harrisburg and has many Steeler shirts that my sister (still in Pgh ) has sent him for several Christmases. I now have a Steeler cap, made specifically for women. It is rather spiffy. My story is that whenever we wear Steeler garb, a conversation with strangers is sure to follow, at the track or elsewhere. Recently in Vegas, Rod had on a sweater vest, hiding the logo on his shirt. When his fellow black jack players realized it was a Steeler logo, they said it was okay for him to play at their table! And just last week, I wore the cap–we were in Hof’s Hut–a local eaterie–and the bus boy practically dropped his tray. He immediately got out his Steeler key chain and his- wallet, also with a Steeler logo. He was very excited about this. This was one of the odd days when Rod had on a regular work shirt, so this time I got the attention. I admit to not knowing ALL of the details of the team, but in general we follow them. Hope this year is better than ’13. It’s great that you two had such a good time.
Okay Zenny, are you still waiting? It will be soon, so watch your intake! Did you guess your own upcoming birth-date, like the rest of us? Sometimes the moms can sense more than anyone else.

Judy, This is so true. I have not picked one for the Derby yet since so many of them get hurt before the race. I respect the trainers and owners who realize their horses aren’t ready this early and hold them back for later. Zenyatta should be a wonderful example to all of them of waiting until a horse is mature. How many of them will ever have a horse like her? Glad the Jacksons are holding back Barbaro’s brother Pennmarydel because he is not mature enough in body to run yet.

Dear Shirlee:
Yes, some trainers do push them before they’re ready. Team Z did a great job with Z with tremendous success.

Good article! Thanks for sharing the link. Each year I am having a harder and harder time trying to choose horses to follow for the TC races/Derby because there have been so many I have fallen for early in the game only to see them drop out due to injuries or illness or not being ready. At this point I just wait til it is closer to the race and try to find one I really luck. Kinda sad.

March 21 Cherokee Devotional
Other people have problems the same way we do. If they get loud about them, we don’t have to react. Resistance makes difficult times even more difficult to handle. It helps not to threaten but to let things cool down naturally. The Cherokee word for this is to hi ge se s di, making peace, or peace for the earth. Forgiveness seems to be a necessity for so many things that are wrong. Forgiveness never degrades but elevates, and is not to let someone else get away with something but to free ourselves from an entanglement. It frees us from bitter resentment that can make us sick-and can help heal the sickness if it is already there. Eventually, it makes us glad that we did not react, doing and saying things for which we would later be sorry.
