Zenyatta’s War Front foal is almost here, and we thought we’d add a little fun to the wait. From now through April 1, we invite you to guess the date and time, to the minute, that 14Z will arrive. The person with the closest guess (without going over) will receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the new foal signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. The winner will be announced following the birth of the foal.
This official Zenyatta.com contest was inspired by the unofficial contest that is taking place in the “Zenyatta’s Waiting Room 2014” Forum discussion.
Enter your guess below. Upon entry you will receive a confirmation email from us. This contest is open to Zenyatta fans worldwide. Please note that we will only accept one entry per person. Multiple entries will disqualify you from the contest.

Nothing ever remains quite the same-but a time comes when we have to follow new guidelines and think new thoughts and do new things. It does not take a superhuman, but it does take a believer-a worker with ears to hear and eyes to see-not just the physical but the spiritual. We cannot take for granted that any other human can have accurate perception and spell things out for us. The miracles are not all in other heads, other hands, other methods. There must be a burst of inner fire that sparks a miracle, that opens a door to a greater life, a greater calm. We are never so blind as when we close ourselves off by our critical views, our hardened hearts, our failure to perceive the greatness of gentle things. O friend, look away from lack and need and pain. Alter your vision and it will alter life.
O, great blue sky; see me roaming here. I trust in you, protect me!

From the video it looked as if Mike only showed him the whip and never hit PM at all. I really like the fact that Mike has the courage to pull up a horse if he feels that something is not right. Dear Max.Some rough races at Meydan. At least a British-based jockey was riding, sad no US horses taking part.Dank ran well to be 3rd but no one would have beaten Just The Way heard he may come to RA. Delighted about Gentildonna and Toast would love to see him try for the Triple Crown but the dirt??.So sad about Mars it was hot out there was surprised not to see them throwing water over the horses as we do in the UK.Maybe you’ve heard they call us “bunny huggers” over here!!!Free the Moose!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. That is a very long way for a US horse to go to race on that kind of surface. There is some recent talk of replacing it with dirt. One of the best synthetic tracks over here is at Woodbine. They also have the best turf track and can run a mile race with one turn. That track is huge. Dan loves it there. He owns the track record.
This news of Mars is very sad. Hopefully the end was quick and he suffered no lingering pain. Reminds me of poor Thomas Chippingdale. Isn’t Richard Hughes related by marriage to the Hannons, and therefore to Moosie? The Moose would never race in those temperatures or on tapeta. Moosie needs the green grass of home.
If the Brits are bunny huggers, you’ve got company. Was listening the other day to some supporter of the Copenhagen Zoo approach to animal welfare rambling on about how Anglo Saxons live in a dream world about animals. Blah!
Free the Moose! Neigh!

Well, I’d rather be known as a bunny hugger than a giraffe killer. I don’t know about the government situation in the UK, but I’d rather see our ineffective geezers approve a military budget that has funding for one less tank or missile and spend the money for animal sanctuaries and non-kill shelters or a place like Old Fiends. Every time I hear some “cheery” newscaster talk about some obscure study that the government has funded I would like to know the cost. Maybe someday people will wake up. We are spending enough money on Michele Obama’s vacation in China to take care of all homeless pets.

Bold Ruler was part of the field in what I consider to be the greatest ever, the 1957 Derby, in which he finished fourth. Iron Liege, the winner, was a stablemate of the pre-race favorite, General Duke, who was injured right before the race was run and didn’t compete.

Great post. Loved reading about Coz. Thank you.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yes, that’s a nice piece. Coz is doing well:
“I’ve never had one as confident as he is,” Jeanne Mayberry said of Cozmic One, who arrived last September. “He’s sure of himself. Sometimes babies spook at things, but he isn’t afraid of anything. I’ve never had a horse quite like that … He’s special, and he knows it.”
Mayberry’s focus is on letting Cozmic One be a horse and become comfortable with his early lessons in the face of intense public interest. The colt is turned out daily, before and after his exercise, and gallops confidently in company. He has not turned in an official breeze yet, but is progressing nicely.
“He’s into a routine and does very well,” Mayberry said. “We’re putting the miles in him, and he’s training forwardly.”

Sheena. Ah yes, I do remember. One can do a lot worse than listening to that wise horse. Moose is a genius in my opinion. He wished The Fugue good luck in her race. You know how Moosie loves the ladies. He probably has not given up yet on Annie Power. He tweeted that she’s good looking and asked her to come for a visit.
I also noticed today that they were not giving the horses drinks or hosing them down immediately after the race. In hot weather here, like in the UK, a horse usually always gets a drink and a quick sponge off before going to the winner’s circle. Gentildonna had worked up quite a sweat after that tough race.
Also agree that Disneyland is my choice every time over the zoo at Copenhagen.

Well, I did it! I did the 7 mile RunTheBluegrass this morning and got my Zenyatta medallion. I was very apprehensive because I was up very late watching Kentucky beat Louisville (hoofray!) and it rained all day, but the thought of getting my hands on that beautiful medallion gave me the inspiration to get out of bed. I walked it and I felt kind of like a fish out of water with all these young people in their nice running gear that were actually running, but there were a few others like me that walked. I got to walk by some beautiful farms and see some horses, but I didn’t get to actually walk on the grounds of the farms. I did get to pet 2 horses, though. Right around mile #6 my legs started burning and I was wondering if I had lost my sanity, but I perservered. As soon as I crossed the finish line they handed me my beautiful medallion and it was all worth it. The things we do for Z! I wish there was some way I could post a picture on here so everyone could see it. Thanks for everyone’s well wishes!

Jockey Rosie Napravnik guided Vicar’s in Trouble to a commanding victory Saturday in the $1 million Grade II Louisiana Derby, one of the premier prep races for the Kentucky Derby.
Vicar’s in Trouble, who broke from the gate at the Fair Grounds Race Course as a 3-1 second favorite, took the lead in the first turn and remained in front from there, completing the 1 1/8-mile race in 1:50.3.
Intense Holiday, the 9-5 favorite and winner of the Grade II Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds last month, remained near the front but was unable to mount a significance challenge down the stretch. Commanding Curve was third.

Congratulations to Constitution, winner of the Florida Derby! I hope Cairo Prince comes away okay. Wildcat Red continues to run past his pedigree! He reminds me a lot of Musket Man, who also had a huge heart and put everything he had into each race. Or Lion Heart, like Musket Man, who was a brave, valiant horse, too.
Also congrats to Vicar’s In Trouble in the Louisiana Derby. Had doubted him in that one but he proved once again to not forget about him. The Ramseys are holding a good hand having him and We Miss Artie.
Seen that Conquest Titan is getting Calvin Borel for his next start – Calvin’s no stranger to riding closers and should Titan make the Derby and Calvin is in the saddle, I will have to put a couple $$ on him for sure!

Goodnight Zenny and family, and sweet dreams, too! Love you, beautiful girl.
Have any Z’sters heard of Bushwacker? I know nothing about professional bull riding; although, I am fairly sure that it may not be well thought of by some. I seem to remember some news item a month or two back which focused on this amazing bull. Later, one Saturday afternoon, I happened to catch a PBR competition on TV. There he was! This is one gorgeous bovine! This afternoon I landed on another PBR show by accident, and Bushwacker is making his “farewell tour”. He was undefeated for a very long time and has failed to unseat riders only a couple of times before the 8 seconds elapsed. He is unbelievable when he leaps into the air and does a twisted kick before coming down. All of this occurs 6-7 feet above the floor of the arena. As I said, I have only seen the competitions twice, but I am in awe of this magnificent animal. He is awesome and very handsome. Good luck in your retirement, Bushwacker! You are breath-taking and deserve the best.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that this is simply a statement of my admiration and praise for a flawlessly beautiful creature. If you are anti-rodeo, please don’t chew me out!
Hugs and love to all!
Tiz Herself
I remember Bushwacker, not the bronc.
He was a son of Outflanker out of the Romantic Lead mare Musical Score. He won $285K+ and he first caught my admiration due to his name first but then he ran second in the Hollywood Prevue as a two year old behind the eventual Champion 2 Year Old Male Declan’s Moon. He was third as a four year old in the Sunshines Millions Sprint behind Bordonaro and Tacirring and in 2007, he defeatd In Summation (earned $1.2+ million on the track, G1 Bing Crosby, etc.) and Greg’s Gold (another millionaire, multiple graded placed, he also won the Bing Crosby)in the Vernon D Underwood Stakes, a G3 event. He raced in 2008 as well.
He stands in CA now alongside Swiss Yodeler, Empire Way and Awesome Gambler to name a few.
Rosemary McCauley
Marshall: I know the bull you are talking about – Bushwacker. I have never seen him in person, only during televised events and he is one impressive individual indeed. It is every bullrider’s dream to ride him for the full eight seconds and few accomplish it.
Max
Marshall. I have agree with you. This bull is one awesome athlete. He makes more money than the cowboys and has purchased his own custom motor home in which he travels in style to events. I read that his owner is retiring him while he is at the top of his game. When he is not working, Bushwacker likes to kick up dirt with his hooves and to snort. He’s cool. I love a creature who snorts. Quevega lets her competition know to get out of her way on the turf with a few well placed snorts. Enjoy your retirement, Bushwacker.
Ann NC
Thanks, Marshall. Happy retirement to, Bushwacker. He sure has lived up to his name.
Snort, snort.
