Zenyatta’s War Front foal is almost here, and we thought we’d add a little fun to the wait. From now through April 1, we invite you to guess the date and time, to the minute, that 14Z will arrive. The person with the closest guess (without going over) will receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the new foal signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. The winner will be announced following the birth of the foal.
This official Zenyatta.com contest was inspired by the unofficial contest that is taking place in the “Zenyatta’s Waiting Room 2014” Forum discussion.
Enter your guess below. Upon entry you will receive a confirmation email from us. This contest is open to Zenyatta fans worldwide. Please note that we will only accept one entry per person. Multiple entries will disqualify you from the contest.

We will miss you, but I am glad that you are retiring healthy and that your owners care about your well-being. You are a beauty! Lots of Hugs

Thanks BGG. So glad he is retiring in good health. Always like the Tabasco Cat line. I don’t think Jackson Bend ever recovered from the accident on the track. Just as athletes have long term problems with concussions, horse apparently can too.

Hovis is so funny. Had a visual of Mum flying over his head and hanging on to his ears. Needed a good laugh; thank you and thank you Hovis. Love this photo too. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. You’re welcome. I am interested in these tidbits that Hovis throws out about the care of his feathers and knees. Really good.
It’s raining today and more coming. Better than snow. Nissy is silent. That blizzard was bad news.

March 28 Cherokee Devotional
Few sounds in nature are harsh. Even the rolling thunder that rumbles across the sky has solemn beauty. The wind makes whistles in the treetops and wild birds warble like rivulets of water that make harps among the shallows. The frenzied crash and blare come from man. The woods comfort with their sounds. A tiny yellow warbler with black wings sits in the redbud tree and makes the sound of an astral flute, a clear call for peace and harmony. If the bird wants a tranquil place-how much more we need it. A wet-weather spring feeds the ground from beneath, giving ferns moisture and life. In the rainy season the water flows and the delicate fronds mingle with the water creating a swishing sound. Surely we can absorb the serenity to heal and soothe our souls.
Creator of the world, Maker of all men; Lord of lords, my eyes fail me…for the sole desire to know thee.
Inca Hymn

@BGG–that’s really interesting because I just got notice a few days ago of a good workout he had. But I am so glad he is retiring safely. Best of luck, dear boy.

Dear Kathy.I used to love going to the woods near my home to play as a child. There is so much to learn from the natural world.Marty is going to write a book Yay!!Did you see the cute video of him collecting paper for his bizness? Not a good idea to have Charlie so close!I think Kimberly will try and keep Fubu as long as possible,he was eating a few treats last night,it’s such a hard decision to make.Boo’s FB has changed somewhat he is now a “public figure”!Zoe’s posts today are very thought provoking especially about Miss Genevieve so sad to be old and lonely’great for her to meet Zoe and her Mommy.Have a wonderful Friday.Hugs to You,Kisses for the Puppy Pack.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I, too, love the woods. You’re right…Nature if a great teacher. Can’t wait for Marty’s book. Loved his video gathering paper. Not sure how Marty doesn’t become a snack for Charlie! My heart goes out to Kimberly. Nothing worse than having to contemplate when it’s time to let go of a beloved pet. However they describe Boo, I love that little guy. Can’t get too much Boo.Zoe’s post about Miss Genevieve was very poignant. I’m glad Zoe brought a smile even if it was brief. God bless Zoe’s mommy for brightening shut-ins’ lives. Happy Friday and have a fantastic weekend. Hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Kathy

Good for Johnny V. I am on his side as long as he is not riding against Muchie, Lea or Palace Malice. Safe trip to all of them. Maybe this will clear up the Derby picture a bit.

Sheena. What’s going on? I just read that The Fly is going to Aintree to race against Annie Power and The New One. I thought that he was going to Punchestown? Is Quevega on holidays yet?

Dear Max. Have just seen the news, they may indeed run, says the going is softish on the Mildmay course.Gosh, that’ll be a FANTASTIC first day at Aintree.Have’nt heard about Quevega.Nissy survived the storm and the ploughs have been clearing the snow which means the enemy (dogs) were out walking, the peeps have got their work cut out clearing their space!Free the Moose.Sheena
Max
Sheena. Thanks for this. Some are now saying that The Fly will still go to Punchestown and only Annie will head to Aintree. That makes more sense. The Fly owns Punchestown. Also her owners may want a high profile race in the UK for her, which is under 3 miles. We will see how she does against Moosie’s friend.
Glad to hear that Nissy made it through that blizzard. I made a serious mistake earlier on the blog and referred to the manly Nissy as “her”. Hopefully he will not get out the claws.

Dear Max.Yes,it does make more sense for the Fly to go to Punchestown but who knows? The race would certainly,at 2miles 4furlongs,suit Miss Power. A chance for UK fans to see her at her best but then there’s Moose’s stablemate he was finishing very fast up the hill at Cheltenham.Thoroughly enjoyed Hovis today, hope he does well at the XC and keeps his eyes on the fences and not the mare!!Oh yes,Nissy likes to remind us he’s a man-cat,he’s been watching the dogs again today, weather is milder and snow is starting to melt. We’ve been promised another spell of warmer weather this weekend and the start of the flat season. Some good races to look forward to.Neigh Sheena.
Max
Sheena. It ain’t over yet. There is another major storm on the way to your Nissy. I googled the Halifax weather and found this news. It’s 42 there now, but more snow is headed toward your favorite cat over the weekend. He meowed too soon that he had survived the polar vortex. This is unbelievable. Nissy’s peeps better get in the groceries.
The critics are out again against The Fly. No respect. Heard that the short jockey is saying that it is harder to recover from falls from horses as he gets older. He’s only 34, which is comparatively young these days. It’s also only been a few weeks. Maybe if he rested more and quits these appearances on TV and radio, and giving interviews about replaceable horses, he might feel better?
Read today that Mullins has an up and coming jumper called Black Hercules. Interesting.
Free the Moose! Neigh!

@Sue Frederick – Happy Belated Birthday and congratulations on your Badgers’ victory! My Cats play tonight and I’m a nervous wreck!
@Abigail – Thanks for the update on Oatsee. I can’t wait to see all the Frankel babies!
Ashton, if you’re out there, I’m watching your Volunteers playing Michigan. Go Vols! Go SEC!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.One of our Jump jockeys Joe Tizzard retired recently and only 34.The short jockey has had many injuries during his career ,including removal of his spleen. He was back racing in 3 weeks.I doubt he’ll be back so soon this time.
Poor Nissy, not another storm!!Hope there’s enough catfood in.The snowploughs guys will be busy again.maybe we’ll hear about it in his blog on sunday.I’ve been looking at the card for Meydan, didn’t know the Fugue was up against Dank. Cirres des Angles is out there as well.Free the Moose Sheena!btw Laura got her dog back!
Max
Sheena. According to forecasts, the storm headed to Nissy will bring only 10 inches of snow, only! That manly cat has had to endure a very long winter. Apparently this has been the worst winter in a very long time. I believe it.
I hope shorty gets better, but I could do with some prolonged silence from him on the subject of his philosophy of horses being replaceable.
Dank and The Fugue racing together should be interesting. Her owner said that Dank would be back to the Breeders Cup if all goes well. Cirrus is an old warrior. I like him and his trainer.
Saw the photo of Laura’s dogs on Kauto’s twitter, especially Gucci. She must be relieved that he has been found.

From what I gather reading this, the filly has a huge wide white blaze like her older brother! Cannot wait to see photos!
Loved her other daughters Lady Joanne and Bagdharia, then there was Stephanoatsee…
This filly’s got good parents for sure!
I’ve read that Balance (1/2 to Z) produced a Frankel colt this year.

“Something in his eyes” leads to lifetime commitment to retired Thoroughbred

Quotes from article:
Yet we could hear another voice, too: that of Michael Blowen, founder of Old Friends. He told us that if people were not interested in taking care of their horses after their racing careers, then they should just race cars, which are disposable. Animals are not.
no one should ever underestimate the power of love between human and horse.
If you do doubt that love, go race cars.
A horse does not have to win to be a champion. To us, Lacrosse Moon will always be a champion, and he knows it. You can see it in his eyes.
Max
Great story.

My Darling
“Secretariat”
On this the date of your birth, March 29, just wanted to tell you I love you very much. Will always love you and I believe with all my heart you are with God. I know there will never be another you, and I think that’s what’s so wonderful about all of us is that the unique beings that we are.
As I have stood at your grave at Claiborne Farm, I just loved being there even though I knew you were not there. The man that was talking to me from Claiborne told me that there was hardly ever a day when someone didn’t come by to leave flowers. The day I was there it was so serene and the green grass was just beautiful around your grave. I believe in heaven with all my heart and I believe you are there.
When God put all the species on the ark, he knew what he was doing didn’t he.
I think so much of the time God just can’t be happy with all the bad things going on in this world. With all the hurtful things going on with horses lately and just all the mess going on with everything, But you know, we can help the horses that are here. I know I will sure be a whistle blower if I see abuse and speak out. And, I know lots more are going to as well. (Mr Phipps had a great article in Bloodhorse today)
I guess this is just kind of an open letter to you “Red” on your birthday.
And, We sure can’t forget we do Have lots of Great Owners and Trainers out there and I am optimistic that maybe better will come. I pray so. So many horses dying has to stop,
I pray so hard that the good lord can help the horses and everything and maybe your spirit can help also. I’m a big believer in Angels also. They are real.
I pray to the Good Lord and all the company of heaven that things can be better here.
Happy Birthday Red. Hope to see you one day. …………………………………….

Good luck with the Chili Dump. Is this where they put it in the Frito Bag with the fixings on top? Campers favorite! Enjoy.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Ann NC,
No they call it that because 9 of us make our own recipe of chili and then we dump it all together and mix it. Every year it has gotten bigger and bigger as people say its the best chili they’ve ever tasted. We do have Fritos available as a topper though. hugs
