Judy B. I could ask if our friend farrier Dave could possibly talk to you as to how he treated Jo’s laminitis. His step by step method if it would help at all. Let me know!!

My Dear Sally:
The farrier Angela hires to shoe the horses helped with another horse that Angela was treating for Founder a while back. Dubai still has abscesses popping up that are draining and he’s very much in pain. So, right now he has no shoes on. Thank you for your offer to have the farrier who helped Jo talk to Angela. I will tell her. We just can’t figure out why there are so many abscesses popping out one after the other. Will post an update as soon as I get the results of the x-rays. Love and Hugs, JB

The Jockey’s Jockey: At 49, Mike Smith is racing’s best big-money rider
by Tim Layden Sports Illustrated Tue Oct. 28, 2014
The two jockeys sat together on the night of Oct. 14, watching playoff baseball on television and waiting for another day at the races. One of them was Mike Smith, a year shy of 50 and the best big-money rider in thoroughbred racing. The other was Drayden Van Dyke, just 20 and a rising star with a lifetime of racetrack afternoons in his future. The two had been housemates since the summer, when Van Dyke brought his tack to Southern California and Smith opened up a bedroom in his home in Sierra Madre. On this night they talked about food, because jockeys are always hungry, and Van Dyke rose from the couch to make a snack run to Whole Foods. He hadn’t made it to the driveway before he stopped in his tracks. “Oh, my God,” said Van Dyke. He turned and walked back into the house, ashen, looking down at his phone.

October 29 Cherokee Devotional
When we are forced to think for ourselves it is a good thing. As much as we want to depend on someone else, we are our own responsibility and we need to know how to handle it. Having someone to rely on is comforting, but it can become a reason not to think and weigh and learn. Sharing responsibility makes good friendships. But too much reliance on other people makes us vulnerable. The Cherokee needs his tribe, loves the closeness, but he must learn the things that make him able to a li s ga s to di, depend on himself. We need to be able to think something through-to know our strong points and how to eliminate the weak. This makes life living, rather than coping.
If the gentlemen of Virginia shall send us a dozen of their sons, we will take great care of their education…and make men of them.

Dear Kathy. We have been promised the warmest Halloween on record in the UK!It’s very mild here today. All our furbabies are dressing up and getting ready.Lily’s mum has got a new dog a 6yr old called Molly a maltese /schnauzer cross and Lily is raising da wroof!Poor Marty habbed a big sad, running out of chocolate!Yes,I saw him eating his ice-cream.Max and Mia are growing. Loved the pic of the whole family Joey’s likes are rising fast nearly 510,000 now. It’s great that Theba has kept his FB going.
Lovely video of Will at about the time he had settled with Tom ,he used to bounce rather than walk because of his arthritis.I am so happy he found love and happiness after a life of abuse.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly, Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Enjoy the warm weather! So glad to hear that Lily’s mom has adopted a new furbaby. Molly is a lucky girl! Couldn’t ask for a better Mommy! Marty does love his chocolate! Max and Mia are so adorable. I think they are the petite type pomeranians, not the large throwbacks like their siblings. Nevertheless they make a great picture all together. Such happy smiley faces! Joey continues to impact lives even after he has gone to heaven. I’m grateful Theba has kept the FB page going. That’s wonderful Will’s last days were happy. Bless Tom for that. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and love from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Z Fans:
Angela called and the vet can’t make it out today. So the x-rays will be done as originally scheduled tomorrow. The vet did put Dubai on another more powerful pain med and he is so much more comfortable that he is standing up now. Thank God, he is getting relief from the pain. Angela said the latest abscess is still draining and she’s watching the other suspicious area. Will be going to the farm tomorrow afternoon and will post when I get back. Want to thank all of you again from all of us. If the x-rays show there’s more abscesses and no bone deterioration and the pain meds keep Dubai comfortable, then Angela said she will work with the farrier and keep tending to the abscesses as long as it takes until they’re gone. Hoping and praying that’s the case. Love all of you. Love and Hugs, JB

@Judy B.–I am certainly no horse diagnostician, but have they ruled out something like a blood infection? I believe he has already been on the antibiotics, but it seemed to get better and then came back. We had to go three rounds with Money’s cellulitis. Hoping and praying for a cure.
Hugs.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Barb W:
Thank you. Will check with Angela. I know there was a lot of blood work done on Dubai and everything was in normal ranges. He’s still on antibiotics too. Love and Hugs, JB

To Ann & Jerry: I’m wishing you the very best of luck & safe trip for Stanwyck in the BC Ladies’. Also, all the best to her when she starts her new career as a broodmare. I’m sure that all of us Zenny fans are going to be thinking of you this week-end & tripping down memory lane as we recall Zenyatta’s races. We all love her so much it’s scary.

Wonderful article about Mike Smith. Any news about Game on Dude and how he is settling into his new life? Every year the Breeders Cup brings so many wonderful stories. I hope John brings Coz to Santa Anita for his first race.

Safe travels to all Z-Dumplings and Z -sters going to the Breeders Cup.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Judy
Thank goodness the pain meds are giving Dubai some relief. It is heartbreaking to know he is still suffering. Laminitis is a disease not only of the hoof but the whole horse, hope the vet is giving ideas for supporting Dubai’s immune system and digestion as well as the much needed pain meds and antibiotics.
Cushings disease is a disease of older horses but can occasionally happen in a young horse under huge stress with laminitis. Hope the X-ray shows no damage to the bone..
Sending love and prayers for brave Dubai,Angela and family and you.
Max
