Happy Sunday!
Team Z arrived at Lane’s End yesterday to await the arrival of Zenyatta’s third foal. At the farm, horses and people alike are enjoying perfect spring weather, green grass and sunshine. These photos offer a glimpse of how we spent our weekend.
Fans can look forward to a blog post announcing major news. In the meantime, check our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (or look here on the right side of the blog) to keep up to date with our visit.
Enjoy!

Good morning Team Z, Zenny, Coz, The Redhead & my Zen Family:
Just checking in to see if last night brought any “little packages” !!!! It would very VERY COOL if this little one made it into the world during tonight’s eclipse/pink moon.
I also wanted to post this compelling story from Toronto’s Sunday Star newspaper. It’s about 2 great owners, 3 great vets and a fabulous pacing mare and don’t worry, it has a happy ending. I wanted to share it because with all the bad publicity horse racing has gotten recently, stories like this one are a balm — and closer to the truth about real horse people:

Dear Abigail:
What a story. These owners did EVERYTHING they could do to save both Mom and Baby. Scary reminder of what can go wrong in foaling. Touched my heart that even with separation, this Mom knew and wanted her baby. Thank God for a happy ending. Thank you for sharing. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story, Abigail. One touching quote from the owner speaking of the premature foal Albert, who was given only a 5% chance of survival:
“You would have fallen in love with him when he was born,” says his owner, Dave Lumsden. “It was like he was saying, ‘I could do all right here. I just need a chance. I just need some help’.”
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Wonderful story – thanks so much Abigail. This was an incredible “team effort” to save both mom and foal – not only during the delivery but in the days and weeks that followed. So glad that Albert figured out he was a horse!

Abigail. Love these kind of stories. Mares know their babies and they do not forget them. Liked the part about Al thinking that he was a human. Great little guy.

Good Morning, Zenny and 13Z and Coz and Ann and Jerry and John and Dottie and all of Team Z at Lanes End. Thank you all, Team Z, for all that you do for Zenny and her babies and for all of us, the Nannies. Well, I’ll have to go out and buy some more birthday Bash food for tonight for my family because I’ll be up pacing again as will all the nannies out here.. Those of you who are actually eating the birthday bash party food, you could get a stupendous tummy ache so go easy. Zenny could have that baby girl/boy any one of these full moon nights, either on or near the exact date of the red/pink eclipse moon. I just think “girl” because of the pink moon that’s coming and shedding its aura on all of us starting today and going until the 16th at 11:46 PM which is my contest date/time pick. That full moon of the 15th will start waning about then but it’s aura will still affect our planet. just as it has begun to do today. happy Birthday partying to you all and most of all to her regal highness. May her foaling be as comfortable and easy as rolling in the tall grass of a moon soaked, sparkling meadow.
Love to all,
Mairiyn Braudrick ( from Santa Anita, sadly no longer at barn #55,stall #85, Hollypark)

Love the pics, especially the one of Zenyatta & Life Is Sweet. Brought back memories of the barn at Hollywood Park, Breeders’ Cup Day in 2009 when they won the Ladies Classic & the B.C. Classic & so many other wonderful memories of both of them. May they both have easy foalings & healthy babies. I’m keeping fingers crossed that Zenyatta delivers close to the day & time I guessed for the contest. Z, if you’re listening, I guessed 4/17 at 12:38 AM. Can’t wait for the news, whenever it happens. Hi Zenny–I am so glad to see your family has arrived for this momentous occasion. We are all monitoring and checking frequently. It must be getting close now. Pacing and praying. How’s that for multitasking? Kisses to you, sweet girl.

@Marshall (NC broad)–sending up prayers for good news and an easy fix for your health issue.
Zenny–when I made my guess as to your due date, I totally forgot to consider the full moon, which is tomorrow! That appears to be a very good possibility.

I’m so greatly excited for 14Z! I am very close friends with Mike Smith and I’ve been talking his ear off about this foal. I’m hoping it’s a filly. My prayers go out to a safe delivery, Zenyatta and the Z Team.

Took another break from foal watching on Sunday to take Loki to his second dog show of the weekend, again participating in rally obedience. He was a much happier dog Sunday and performed well, quick and precise. he was rewarded with a PERFECT SCORE OF 100!! And first prize in his class! I was so proud and excited. Still on cloud nine!
Back to pacing.

Hi!
So happy to see the owners awaiting the arrival of Zenyatta’s third foal. It shows how much they love her, and this is what the fans need to see from owners.
Too many owners are irresponsible and see “only” the dollar signs and when the “value” of the horse declines in whatever fashion, then they are discarded
in one way or another.
This is bad news for the horse racing industry.
Why would “new” fans come on board of this industry when they finally learn of the abuse, neglect, abandonment, and slaughter of the former racing horses?
By the way, hope it is a girl this time.
I am eager to learn of “her” arrival. Want to see lots of videos and photos of the
new baby.
I am so grateful to the owners to allow Zenyatta’s fans to be involved in this process.
Good luck, Zenyatta, and be healthy!
Thank you!

A very exciting, anticipatory time. Lovely photos. Particularly love the one of Ann greeting the beautiful Zenyatta and Z and Life Is Sweet going to dinner. And who could not love the handsome 13Z.

Oh my…….I am emotional right now!! I love Z and seeing her lovely pics, her beautiful kind face, and Ann and Jerry there for her. Brings a bit of tearing to my eyes.
I guess I was off on my April 11th day, but golly, I just need to know the foal is born and all is okay. I’d like to be surprised with a dark bay filly, some white blaze, a beautiful face & head all just like mama. Number 14z will be just as priceless. Oh happy days!!
Just do it Zenyatta!
Love to Z, Coz, 13z, baby and to her human family, Ann & Jerry
kisses on your soft nose, Auntie Sally B

A Birthday Poem for Pam Homeier
(April 14, 2014)
Our dear Pam
Has been a great racing fan
Since around nineteen fifty
When first via TV
The whole country could see
The Run
For the Roses.
Back then Pam found it nifty
To have some fun
Betting against her dad,
And one supposes
She was only a little bit sad
If her favorite one
Didn’t come in
For the win—
After all, to her dad she did yield
The whole rest of the field!
Nowadays Pam
Is a huge fan
Of Zenyatta the Queen,
Her love for Z never flags.
But Pam also takes delight
In canines
Like the Shirreffses’ Sophie,
Tiny and refined,
A brilliant white
Ball of fluff
Full of joyous tailwags,
Who’s sometimes seen
With Dottie at the track.
But for Pam it’s not enough
Just one such canine
To have for her own–
No, she has two at home
That she does adore–
Just like Sophie, what’s more,
Except that they’re black!
They’re both mini poodles
With ever so clever noodles,
So Pam makes sure that they
Never for activities lack.
They love competing
For beribboned bling
In the obedience ring!
Dear Pam, to you we say
Happy birthday today
And many, many more!
We hope there are oodles
Of good times for you in store!
Congratulations, Pam, and I hope we can also give you congrats for sharing your birthday with 14Z!

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Happy Birthday Pam! I know that you and I both picked today so I hope you wind up celebrating WITH Z14!! (Unfortunately, I’ll also have to hope that my time guess is closer :-)
Thanks to Trina for another great poem. You’ve really been busy lately! Hoping for another one coming soon!

Hi Sandy! Good luck to you too! Wanted to pick my birth time(11am) but figured Zenny’s mo was more towards the evening so went later. Don’t really remember the exact time – that age thing again!
pamhomeier
Trina, that was wonderful! Thank you so much. My black boys are both gone now and I miss them terribly. I do have a silly little hairy Chihuahua twelve years old who only knows how to sit in my lap but I love him too! He’s very good at lapsitting. I would love to have Zenny foal today! I would actually be able to remember the date! Turned 70 with very mixed emotions! Thanks again for the birthday poem – brought back lots of terrific memories!

So sorry to hear that your poodles have now passed to the Rainbow Bridge. I was worried that they might have, but I didn’t know. They had a wonderful life with you and will wait to see you again some day. HugZ, Trina
