Happy Monday!
Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One were visited by Jerry and Dottie this weekend. It was a particularly special visit because they were there to see Coz off as he departed Lane’s End for Mayberry Farm in Florida. At Mayberry he’ll follow in his mom’s footsteps and focus on his new routine—learning to be a racehorse. Alys captured video of his departure for the fans.
The team spent time with Zenyatta, who is looking great and in foal to War Front. They also said hi to 13Z, who’s having a blast this fall with his buddies.
We’d like to thank Lane’s End for all of the time, enery, and love that they have put into Coz. For that, we are very grateful.
Enjoy!

OK, here is a talking animals joke. Max, I know it is not horses, but those are coming soon. A lion walks up to a rabbit, roars, and asks “Who is the king of this land?” The rabbit replied you are, Mr. Lion. The lion then said that’s right and walked away. The lion then walks up to a python and again asks “Who is the king of this land?” The python replied you are mister Lion. The lion walks off and says that’s right. The lion then walks up to an elephant who is eating. The lion says “Who is the king of this land?” The elephant ignores him and keeps on eating. The lion then let out a mighty roar and again asks “Who is the king of this land?” The elephant continued to ignore him and kept eating. The lion then rears up on his hind legs, extends his claws, and roars and says “I said who is the king of this land?” The elephant reached over with his trunk, grabbed the lion, pounds him on the ground a few times and then throws him against a tree. The lion then got up and shook his head and said “There is no reason to get mad just because you don’t know the answer to the question.”

Very funny Terry – I was chuckling quite a while after reading this one.
Terry Crow
Rosemary-Do you remember an old TV show named Make Me Laugh? I win.
Rosemary McCauley
Terry: No, I don’t think I remember the show Make Me Laugh – but you do indeed win with every one of your funnies.
Terry Crow
Make me laugh’s premise was that a group of comedians could make anyone laugh. They called members of the audience up to the stage where various comics told them jokes. If the member of the audience could keep a straight face after the joke was told, he or she would win a prize. if the audience member laughed, they lost.

Dear Max I hope Hovis hasn’t heard they are holding a race for Clydesdales at Exeter on November 24th. It’s come about after the success of the shire horses running back in the summer. As we all know he is the product of an unfussy dam and even thought Shergar could be his father!! Maybe he wouldn’t qualify.Anyway he prefers Burghley. hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. I love this news. Let us know who wins.
Terry Crow
I was watching TVG earlier as I like the Keeneland races. They had a promotion, of sorts, featuring kids with terminal diseases. The track had each race named after a kid and had them in the winner’s circle. The jockeys were great, giving the kids their whips, helmets, etc. Bad things should never happen to kids. I am not afraid to admit that I was getting emotional when I found out that each of the kids were granted a wish. The last one I saw just wanted to go on a Disney cruise. If I could, I would let the kid and his or her family just stay on the boat until the end and then give the child a Viking funeral.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi Terry, Geez so sad when one talks about the kids. I can not even go there!! It truly depresses me. The demise of children as well as young horses never able to experience “life” takes a burden on my soul.
hugs, Sally B
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Terry,
I watched some of these races at Keeneland, too. Different farms sponsored the children in connection with “Make a Wish Foundation”. The ones I saw were sponsored by Gainesway, Three Chimneys, and Lanes End. I did not see all of the races, but what a lovely thing to do. Kudos to all involved!
Terry Crow
Marshall-I certainly agree. Make a Wish is a wonderful charity and should be supported. I have personally seen the good it does. What is more precious than the last wish of a dying child?
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
I have not been able to go back and read more; I struggle to keep up with all that is going on. BUT, whenever I have a half hour I come to my friends on the blog and of course Zenyatta!! There is no place like home! hugs, Sally B

Carol, So many nice fillies and mares in the QE2. Rosie on Caroline Thomas and my heart bet Kitten’s Dumplings whose dam is Granny Franny. Love the Ramseys, Kittens and some of the names they come up with for their horses. Also, the dreaded JV has a mount in that race.
carol in arkansas
Was not Gomez suppose to ride? He is off his mounts again
shirleeinindy
Carol, He seems to be having some more problems. Yes, he did have a mount in the QEII and had won several races Sunday at Keeneland. Being a jockey is a hard life and so many of them have problems. Can you imagine being 40 and having to stay at the same weight you were in middle school plus flying all over the country from track to track sometimes on the same day?
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Shirlee,
It certainly is a hard life for jockeys. I can’t imagine being 60 something and having to stay the same weight I was at 40 (which is way more than I weighed in high school)!
All the best to Garrett Gomez with hopes that he can get a handle on things and sort them out. He is a superb rider, and his mounts love him, I’m sure.
Hugs and have a nice weekend!

JudyB. If those who would not buy her only knew. This price always reminds me of Northern Dancer. No one would pay his reserve price of 25K, so he went home to Windfields. More difficulties for Garrett Gomez
By Sports Network — The Sports Network Published: October 10, 2013
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Veteran jockey Garrett Gomez took off his mounts Thursday at Santa Anita and will not ride for the time being.
“He’s going through personal problems,” said his agent, Tony Matos. “He texted me yesterday and said he didn’t want to ride for a while.”
Gomez, champion jockey of 2007-08, took off his six rides at Santa Anita last Sunday when he missed a flight from Kentucky after riding two races at Keeneland on Saturday.
Earlier this year, Gomez missed time when he went through rehab for alcoholism.

Hovis thinks he should be renamed Houdini. Taking into consideration the subject of this week’s discourse, and that fact that Houdini’s first name was Harry, it seems most appropriate. I can do nothing but commiserate with Hovis regarding his mare problem.

Treve’s sister Trophee set for Chantilly debut
By Scott Burton RacingPost.com 11 OCT 2013
THOSE already impatient for their next sighting of runaway Arc winner Treve will get the next best thing on Friday afternoon at Chantilly, where little sister Trophee makes her first racecourse appearance in the fillies’ maiden.
Like her unbeaten sibling, Trophee was bred at the Head family’s Haras du Quesnay and will be sent out for her first day at school by Criquette Head-Maarek, with Thierry Jarnet, who rode Treve in the Arc, once again entrusted with the ride.

Ireland Asks: Can This Racehorse Be Saved?
By Louisa Shepard
New Bolton Center’s Dr. Dean Richardson Joins Team to Operate on St. Nicholas Abbey
At dawn on a Tuesday morning in July, world-renowned surgeon Dean Richardson, DVM, opened an e-mail from two equine surgeons in Ireland. Included were two radiographs of a horse’s shattered leg. The questions: “Can this horse be saved? What are the chances of survival?”
St. Nicholas Abbey, the greatest money-winning, European-trained racehorse of all time, had shattered his right fore pastern while exercising at Ballydoyle, the racing arm of legendary international Thoroughbred breeders Coolmore Stud. It was to be his final exercise before a major race at Royal Ascot.

Dear Judy from Rhodes Island,
Good morning, its a beautiful day today because our God is in it. I was instructed by the Queen to write and find out how you are doing today. She is praying that you are pain free and if not, to let her know so she would have a talk with God. He promises his children healing and good health and she is not leaving without that healing for you. You know the Queen, never takes no for an answer.!
On a more serious note, may your pain be a distant memory and today be the beginning of a bright new dawn that see’s you pain free. It is well and our God, his hands are not too short that he cannot Heal you, nor is he deaf that he cannot hear your cries for Healing. It is well and we are grateful for his mercies.
Have fun today and remain Blessed always. LOL.

I wish I could bomb proof Red to that extent. Perhaps the guy running should consider some training as well….
@Terry Crow,
It’s okay, I took no offense to it, though it is in-part true. There is very little respect for anything anymore; especially with my generation of “Break it and Buy a New One the Next Day” and dear ole’ mom and dad that encourage this behavior by being their child’s friend and not their child’s parent. Bah, I would rule my family the same way I did my farm, with an iron fist that demands respect and awareness of the world at large. I don’t condone things like that, and I will never pretend that I do to make people like me.
If this was the Secretariat statue at Belmont, half of the East Coast and definitely all of NY, would be up in arms about this, and I’m appalled that Santa Anita, from what we currently know, did nothing. Only ONE fanny belongs on the Royal Back, and it’s not the dimwit in the picture. It’s the fanny that guided her to 19 of 20 victories and into the Legends that will be told from generation to generation. That’s my ten dollars on the situation.
