Happy Monday!
Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One were visited by Jerry and Dottie this weekend. It was a particularly special visit because they were there to see Coz off as he departed Lane’s End for Mayberry Farm in Florida. At Mayberry he’ll follow in his mom’s footsteps and focus on his new routine—learning to be a racehorse. Alys captured video of his departure for the fans.
The team spent time with Zenyatta, who is looking great and in foal to War Front. They also said hi to 13Z, who’s having a blast this fall with his buddies.
We’d like to thank Lane’s End for all of the time, enery, and love that they have put into Coz. For that, we are very grateful.
Enjoy!

Dear Max Seems Moonlight Cloud is to retire at the end of the season. She’ll either come out to the BC or go to Hong Kong, where ever she goes she’s rocking!!!pity we couldn’t have ended up at Peggy’s for chocolate cake!!!Treve won for her granddaddy!Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Moonlight Cloud is doing very well this year. My bet is that she will go to Santa Anita. Although based in France with Freddy Head, she is American owned, and her owner naturally likes to support US racing. Her owner also has several Big Ds, such as Thought Worthy and Lucarno.
Montjeu must be happy in horsey heaven with the win by Treve. He had several offspring in that race. His progeny have good stamina.
Yes, I was intrigued by a 7 layer chocolate cake. Sounds impressive. So far I have resisted the pie and brownies, but made another trip this pm to Starbucks for a coffee. Brewing coffee is not my thing.
Roberta
Pati, thank-you for the link, Zenyatta is ahead 48%. I voted for her; I love Tiznow, and it was a heck of a race, with so much courage, but Zenny’s win was unforgettable!!!!

Wise Dan fine after runner-up finish in Shadwell
By Sports Network Miami Herald Posted on Sunday, 10.06.13
Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Horse of the Year Wise Dan is doing fine after finishing second in Saturday’s Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland and will defend his title in next month’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.
“Those were not ideal conditions yesterday,” trainer Charles LoPresti said of the race that came off the turf and was run at 1 1/16 miles on the main track after Keeneland was hit by 1 1/2 inches of rain in less than two hours. “I was a little disappointed that he lost, but he never stopped trying and was gaining on the winner (Silver Max).”

Hope you all know how much I Thank You for all your posts. Especially about my boy Orfevre. If you see anything related to him please always post. Especially what the Japanese are planning with him going forward. I am always afraid of not hearing much on him as he is so far away.
You guys are the best.
Max
Peggy. The Big O is so high profile now that he is unlikely to disappear. He has helped to make Japanese racing known world wide with his Arc quest. Sounds like they are not giving up on winning that prize.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: Treve shines bright in five-length score over Orfevre
By Marcus Hersh Daily Racing Form 10/06/2013 12:47PM
Treve blew away an elite field and now has a chance to go down as one of the best fillies in recent history after winning the Group 1, $6,254,439 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday at Longchamp by five lengths.
Treve, undefeated after five races, became the third straight 3-year-old filly, following Danedream and Solemia, to capture the Arc. Three-year-old fillies get a double weight break for age and sex in the race, and Treve carried 119 pounds compared to 131 for Orfevre, who finished second in the Arc for the second straight year, edging French
3-year-old Intello on Sunday.

They also do not allow geldings to race in the Arc. That is why Cirrus des Aigles is never there. CDA is a super horse. He nearly took down Frankel in his last race. Zoffany also nearly ran Frankel down at Ascot. After that, Cecil started to use a pacemaker in Bullet Train to control the race to give Frankel an advantage.

I was pulling hard for O because of Peggy. He has nothing to be ashamed of, ran a great race. What he needed was Peggy’s presence in France.
Max
TC. So true. Would be nice if Orfevre went back to Japan via the Breeders’ Cup. Peggy could head to LA. I was also pulling for that grand ole chestnut. He has incredibly bad luck with fillies.
Terry Crow
I have the same problem with mares.
maureen phi-llips
No I don’t agree that he has bad luck with females, the problem I see is
1) He is such a gentle man that he feels its not fair beating a female, come on people, he feels its not an even playing field, give him dudes and see what he is made of. His mama raised him well.
2) He loves them females too much that he gets distracted by them. I had said to put blinkers on him, It was a miracle some mares scratched or it would have been worse.
3) It’s his mama’s fault for making him a mama’s boy so he see’s his mama in all these mares so lets them go by.
In my book, he is the ultimate gentle man and has to be commended for that. Now I love him so, and so proud of him and what he accomplished,, its not easy.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Maureen
I know there’s something going with him and theses Filly’s???
Max
Peggy. The Japanese are saying that they may bring their own filly to the next Arc race, maybe the winner of the Oaks. Gentildonna might have won that race against Treve because she is an excellent racing filly from the Big O’s stable and a very tough girl. Doubt that she would let those Euro fillies pass her as a favor. Still think it was just bad luck with the Big O and he is a great racer. Grand ole chestnut hero forever.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
He’s just great, But I didn’t see him put down the power yesterday like I have seen him do a number of times. That last race might have taken something out of him.
I think we will probably see that power back in December. He’ll probably knock us off our feet. We’re going to see him come flying in December.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy, Terry, Max
Thank you guys so much. I think he ran great too. I am sad though it has hit me this afternoon. Terry I sure wish I could have been there too. Max that would be just wonderful if he could come to the US. I was thinking about that this afternoon too.
Judy and Terry, Max, I’m still upset about Leroi being gone. I am going to keep track of him per their website. This has been a hard couple of months.
I am though, in 2 weeks going down to see Leroi’s little girl. I’m just sitting on pins and needles that she doesn’t get sold tranfered etc. OK now if she does this is just going to be too much for this heart. Going to be positve. If she’s gone their just going to have to tell me where she is so I can go see her wherever she is. Can’t wait to see her
Sure hope Orfevre can come back next year.
Terry Crow
Peggy-I hope so, too. Good fans like you deserve to be rewarded.
Max
Peggy. The only consolation with Leroi is that he will be very well treated at that farm. Kirsten Rausing will do right by him, and he is very likely to get visits from top class mares from Ireland, the UK and Europe. He’s a good cross to them. One of his babies could win the Arc.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy, Max and Z Fans:
Hoping that you get to see Leroi’s little filly. I know you are sad that Leroi has left the States, but as Max said, he will be treated very well and may be he will return to Kentucky some day.
I think Wise Dan and Orfevre both ran well in their respective races. Hope the Big O gets another chance at the ARC. Looking forward to Wise Dan in the BC Mile. Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max & Judy,
I know Leroi is really putting his stamp on his offspring. I am really looking forward to see whats going to come forward with him.
His little girl too, that I know. She is really something in her own right. And she’s just a very young filly.
Max
Peggy. Don’t forget that Leroi has already sired a KD winner in Animal Kingdom. The KD is the most well known race in the world. And no none North American born horse has ever won that race. Many Euros have tried to crack it, but so far, no success.
Abigail_1849
Peggy: When they interviewed Treve’s trainer after the Arc she described the turf as “impouvantable” or really awful, in English. This had to have had an impact on everyone’s run, as the Arc is already tiring even when the turf is good-firm. Which also tells us just how good Treve really is!
Max
Abigail, mon amie. I spent too many Saturday mornings in language classes not to recognize the French word for horrible. It’s épouvantable. They kicked me out when I started correcting the prof for mistakes with the subjunctive tense, and beating him at French trivia. Alors!

Proud Ikee vows to return and win Arc
Posted by: AAP+ Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 7/10/2013 at 1:42pm
Yasutoshi Ikee brushed aside the disappointment of his Japanese superstar Orfevre finishing second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for the second successive year and pledged to return to claim the victory his country craves.
The 44-year-old trainer, whose father Yasuo also failed to land the race when his champion Deep Impact finished third in 2006, said he was extremely proud of Orfevre’s performance to finish five lengths second to unbeaten French filly Treve.

Dear Sheena & Bluegrass Girl
Oh, well the tears are coming. This is a day I just didn’t want to think about coming. Not because he will be retiring , but just like Leroi, I know we probably want be seeing him much. Very Very sad day for me. I am happy for him though he should have the good life of a retiree. But, oh gosh can’t stand the thought of his being so far away and not seeing him.
I do have my calendar circled for Dec. 22.
Max I don’t know how much comfort food I am going to need for that day. May take a whole cake. Still don’t think that will do it.
Terry you were talking about I should have been in Paris. Well when he’s stopped racing. Looks like I’m just going to have to go to Japan now.
Oh gosh. My boys just keep on exiting.
Something has been bothering me today. Wondered about you guys opinion. Know it doesn’t matter now, but is it right. It will matter for some horses. And Orfevre one more time.
One of my Coworkers asked me about this at work. She was I believe reading the book Seabisquit. It got me thinking again today about this.
Orfevre carried 132 lbs in the race yesterday. Treve carried ll9. Treve is a 3 year old right. I understand they are trying to make things on an even playing field. But, and this is a big But. My Coworker asked me is this fairwhen its such a good size margin of weight. If a horse is a great race horse why should one be penalized so much. I could not answer my CoWorkers question. Because it doesn’t seem fair to me. His race yesterday that was a l3 lb Difference.
I know it probably wouldn’t have changed the race, But is it right?
Sees like if I am remembering right that John Sherriff’s didn’t like a weight that was assigned to Zenyatta at one time.Forgive me if it was not him, but it was one of the big trainers that was upset about it.
I do know because I read it today in an article. That when Man O War turned I believe it said 4 that they assigned a hefty weight to him even more than Orfevre had. It was more than 132. He said “No” and retired Man O War.
I believe I agree with him.
I am not upset that the Filly got less weight, but over 130 seems like a lot to me.
So sorry I took up so much space. Just concerned about this.
Max
Peggy. I hear what you are saying as a lot of us do not like these handicap races. There are however arguments in favor because otherwise the advantage would go to colts against fillies and to more experienced horses against 3 year olds. LoPresti was upset with the weight that Dan had to carry in the Firecracker. Other horses have carried even more weight in the past, up to 141 or more, if I am not mistaken. My personal view is that I would prefer that it did not happen. Let the horses run free, and each takes his or her own chances against each other with the same weight and the clock.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Max
I agree
I think I remember that about LoPresti too and Wise Dan.
I think they assigned Man O War something like 138 and his owner said No

I can’t believe that it has been just about a year since Zenny’s statue was dedicated. Then I see that picture with the idiot on her back. SA management would never allow someone on the statue of Seabiscuit so why Z? @Rosemary McCauley-As I recall, you were at the dedication ceremonies last year. You are correct. There is a perfectly fine Zen carousel horse at the LA Zoo.
Rosemary McCauley
Terry – I remember the statue dedication very well. It was very exciting to see the covering removed from the statue for the first time. I also remember it was approx. 220 degrees that day (or at least felt like it). But it was well worth it to be there and meet you and the other Z fans.
I hope Santa Anita security is taking actions to prevent future disrespect of the beautiful statute of our Queen or any of the other statutes gracing the grounds.
I agree, the LA Zoo carousel is a fine one indeed. I rode the Zenyatta carousel horse, but didn’t get to ride the Giacomo carousel horse. I remember that all the other animals on the carousel were on poles that allowed them to go up and down, but Zenyatta’s did not move up and down. Do you know if there was any particular reason for that?
Terry Crow
They were probably concerned that, if too many people my size got on, it would break down. Other than that, I don’t know.
♥ Auntie Judy aka JAG - So Calif ♥
Terry
The fools also got on John Henry’s statue (in the past and present) and Seabiscuits. Trust me, security has been informed!
♥ Zenny is literally on two legs. With the weight of these idiots who knows what could happen. I hope Santa Anita doesn’t have to put a bigger barrier and ruin it for everyone else :-(
I say hello to both JH snd Zen each time I visit the track :-)
Abigail_1849
Terry: I posted that picture on FB — I just couldn’t believe it! What is WRONG with people?
Terry Crow
JAG and Abigail–I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering that today’s young people seem to have less and less respect for both persons and things. I did not hear anything about someone getting on Seabiscuit, but I can’t say I’m shocked. When it gets to the point that I don’t care about these outrages, I guess I will just pack it in .
Pati-Caz Girl
I, personally, was ashamed that he decided to ride the Great Queen. This kid better wash the statue until it shines like new, and leave peace offerings everyday for a week at her feet. Silly boy; no man disrespects the Queen in that manner.
Terry Crow
I was irritated about the picture when I posted. It was wrong of me to paint all of today’s young people with the same brush, especially considering the fine young woman we have here in Pati, Pati-accept my apology. It won’t happen again.

Dear Peggy Can really understand how you must be feeling I’ve see so many champion racehorses retire and I’ll always miss them and love them dearly. As for the weight issue, fillies always get an allowance. Our Grand National is a handicap, can you imagine what it was like for Red Rum to carry 12st over 30 jumps and 4 and a half miles. Big O will have a good retirement and he is safe and sound It kind of leaves a very empty feeling though. Get a very large cake!! love and hugs Sheena

Sad end as champion Hay list finishes 14 lengths last
by: CHRISTIAN NICOLUSSI The Sunday Telegraph October 05, 2013 9:24PM
HAY List has all but run his last race, with the hulking sprinter beating just one runner home again at Randwick yesterday.
The three-time Group 1 winner who pushed Black Caviar all the way in some of the big majors was a shadow of himself when he returned to scale after the Premiere Stakes (1200m).
Asked if that was the end for Hay List, trainer John McNair said: “It’s the end for me. If something was to happen to him, I couldn’t forgive myself, apart from the fact I’d be mortified.
“If he was to continue, it won’t be with me. (Owners) the Davenports are coming around tomorrow to discuss it.
“The unfortunate thing is soundness-wise he’s OK. But it’s not a sad day because the horse has come back and he’s well.”

King JOHN HENRY crossed Rainbow Bridge on this date in 2007. I was there celebrating my birthday (as usual) when I saw the chalk mark for his grave outside his paddock. I sat on a bench by his paddock with a close JH friend bawling my eyes out. I said “No, not on my birthday, please!” Selfish thoughts!
As the day was ending and people were coming through the Hall of Champions and were paying their respects. They called him the Old Warrior and the the Big Dog. Loving remarks to say the least.
I had plans with friends to have dinner to celebrate my birthday. I kissed John good-bye. His breeder, Verna Lehmann was there, as was Jean Calloway, who’s husband named John Henry.
During my crying spell on the bench it occurred to me that my beloved husband, John, would be at Heaven’s gate to greet John Henry! Wow! My husband would get to ride John Henry in the meadows and be together for eternity! That’s when I realized how truly blessed I was for John-John to cross Rainbow Bridge on my birthday. Forever in stone 10/8/2007.
As the days turned into months… I cried often…. an angel appeared by the name of Zenyatta! John wanted to ease my pain so he sent me the most gorgeous mare God every created!! ♥ The King had sent me a ♥ Queen. Thank you John Henry!

Dear Peggy(N) South Georgia,
I Pray to our Almighty Father that you are feeling better about Big O and the race today. I don’t know where to begin but just want you to know that I know exactly how you feel and want you to know it gets better, not today, not tomorrow, but it will get better. Just let yourself feel all you want to feel and over time, I promise you, you will be feeling a whole lot better, Not that you don’t still feel the old tinge of anger anytime you allow yourself to think of your baby but you come to accept it and just pray that he is happy where ever he is and that his son’s and daughters will make him Proud.
It took me a long, long time to get over big Brown losing the triple crown bid and my pain was compounded when people forgot that he was a 2 time champion prior to that ill fated day and a pretty good one at that. His winning the Haskel invitational and having to dig really deep to beat pesky coolcolman was a little redemption for me because it showed he had the heart of a champion and life was almost good again. They still don’t give him the respect he deserves but I pray that God will Bless his kids and make it all right.
Now the Queen’s loss to Blame was another matter altogether, I was mad at God,!, I didn’t understand it, I didn’t want to understand it and it took me forever to watch the video after the fact since I was too nervous to watch the live race. When she was retired and moved to kentucky, I was devastated because I knew she did not have another opportunity to shut her critics up.!. so, my dear, I understand, Big O moving to Asia makes it all the more painful for you knowing his racing days are over and how would you keep up with what he is doing?, most owners are not like the Mosses who knowing how much the Queen was loved set up the different ways for us to be connected with her.
You know what, it is well, we will keep praying for the big fella to do good at what ever life presents and have a good life where ever life takes him and to know that he is dearly loved. I know I am beginning not to make sense but pray that this is of some comfort to you

Dear Maureen
Thank You so much for your very wonderful post. It does help me so much. So nice of you to think of me and write. It is so hard. I can not emphasize how happy I am that he isgoing out of racing healthy. So happy for that, but I will just miss him so. I think he so remnded me so much of Secretariat too that I loved so dearly.
I took Barbaro’s loss so hard to. Oh my goodness, still can’t talk about that very much. So hard. Loving them so its so hard when we lose them or can’t see them anymore.
I can though turn around and see so quickly what this is all about. This life. We have to be so Thankful for everything. And live the best life we can and be a faithful and loyal servant to the good lord.
I just passed by Huckabee’s show on TV the other night and he had this lady on that was one of the executive’s wife on there and she was telling about her cancer ordeal. She had a small tumor removed years ago and it came back afer years in her bones. She was telling about a new treatment. I think she is 7 years now and still here.
She did stop me in my tracks. I have to go back in three weeks for my big tests. I am 3 and 1/2 years cancer free. Mine small tumor also. But I am Thankful for everything. All the horse’s, know I will see them again on this earth or in heaven. And that’s where I have the big Turnaround. I am so Thankful and blessed. Never felt closer to the Good Lord.
I pray real hard my tests are all good. I love the saying I’ll see ya here or see you over there later. PS, I’m going to see Little Miss Leroi, in 2 1/2 weeks. I’m counting the days.
Thank you Maureen

My Doctor told me after cancer surgery in 20l0. When he was releasing me from the hospital. He told me to get out of there and live my life.We all have to do that. I think that may be why when we lose these horses that we have fallen in love with. Like with Orfevre being so far away, Just may not be able to see him here. But, you never know.
I know there’s many I can see and I am Thankful but when they have become apart of your heart and soul it does hurt.

Peggy-Here’s hoping that all the testing comes out your way.
