Happy Monday!
Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One were visited by Jerry and Dottie this weekend. It was a particularly special visit because they were there to see Coz off as he departed Lane’s End for Mayberry Farm in Florida. At Mayberry he’ll follow in his mom’s footsteps and focus on his new routine—learning to be a racehorse. Alys captured video of his departure for the fans.
The team spent time with Zenyatta, who is looking great and in foal to War Front. They also said hi to 13Z, who’s having a blast this fall with his buddies.
We’d like to thank Lane’s End for all of the time, enery, and love that they have put into Coz. For that, we are very grateful.
Enjoy!

Good morning all
I read this inspirational message by Joseph Prince and thought I would share it with all you Zensters I love. You all mean the world to me.
1 Corinthians 2:12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
As a child of the Most High God, God wants you to know the things that have been freely given to you. He wants you to receive them freely although it cost Him His Son. He paid the price, but He wants you to receive the blessings freely. That is His love toward you.
Perhaps you are asking God, “How is it that I don’t have this blessing? And why do I have so little of that?”
I believe that He is saying this to you: “What do you lack, My child? Health? Take it! It has been paid for with the life of My Son.
“Do you need peace of mind? My Son wore the crown of thorns on His head to give it to you. Take it!
“Lack wisdom? Take My wisdom!
“Need victory? Victory is not something you attain. It is a gift to be received. Take it!
“Take My provision! Take My favor! Every time you come into My Presence, take, and take some more!”
God, your heavenly Father, wants you to receive like the prodigal son, who deserved nothing, but received everything. (Luke 15:11–24) God delights in giving freely. And He delights in you receiving freely because it shows that you value and appreciate His Son’s sacrifice.
You miss it when you are busy trying to earn what has been freely given to you, when you think that you must do more for God to bless you, or that you must pay the price for it. God cannot give it to you based on your works because if it is by works, it is no longer by grace. When you try to work for it, you frustrate the grace of God and make light of Jesus’ work at Calvary.
My friend, the days of trying, striving and earning are over. The days of take, take and take more have come. Take and you will bring pleasure to God’s heart!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Amen, Sue! So well said. Hugs.

Dear Max Enjoy your cake! Red velvet or carrot??? hugs Sheena

Sheena its almost time. Getting very nervous.

Sheena and Peggy. Another blow during a bad weekend of racing results. Very sad about the Big O coming in second yet again to a filly. Three times now . Maybe he’ll have to come back next year. This race is not just a race for 3 year olds. It was once won by a 7 year old. Lately however the fillies have ruled.
Bought pumpkin pie and rocky road brownies. I had a bad feeling about the Big O and decided to get a bigger supply of comfort food.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sheena and Max
Its so sad, but I’ll go on. I had a good feeling about him too. We never know do we.
Maybe he’ll come back again. I hope so.
Wonder what the Japanese are saying?
Oh Max, I got cake too. 7 layer Chocolate. I don’t know if that’s going to do it though. I think it’s just sinking in more. I ‘m sadder than this morning after the race. He was just beautiful. Did you guys see Christophe petting him in the starting gate. What a wonderful boy.
Max
Peggy I went to Starbucks and had two desserts this am. Didn’t help much. We’ll just have to get over it and go on to the next race. Easier said than done. Sure hope that the Big O is kept in training, such an impressive looking horse. The chestnuts and their fans have had a bad weekend.

Dear Peggy The brilliant Treve!!!!! Frankie must be feeling sick at heart. So sorry for your beloved Orfevre. It’s always a race for 3year olds Hugs Sheena
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Sheena its Ok. Treve did do great. Maybe Orfevre can be back another day.
I bet Frankie is just sick he didn’t get to ride.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
This is the first time I’ve seen him Peggy. He really is a beautiful horse (even one of my “non-horse” friends who watched with me thought he was gorgeous), and he ran a great race, but that little filly was just smokin’!! Maybe he is too much of a gentleman? I’m so glad that I got to see it and that everyone apparently got through the race OK. Thanks for filling us in on “Big O” – I never would have known about him otherwise.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sandy,
I think you might have just hit the nail on the head. A Gentleman I believe he is. I was really worried about that filly. She just exploded. And from the outside post. I like the Head family so I am very happy for them.
That was such a nice race even though my boy didn’t win.
He and Wise Dan both 2nd the weekend. Who would have thought.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Peggy,
So close, thought he was going to expode out of the pack, but it just didn’t happen. One little consolation…….the filly, Treve, traces back 5 generations to Secretariat! Congrats to her she’s a beauty. hugs
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Sue
Yes I’m very happy for her. Didn’t know she was in the Secretariat line. She’s beautiful.
Orfevre did do great.
Max
Peggy. Treve, which is French for truce or intermission, is the image of her Northern Dancer ancestors, Danzig, Sadler’s Wells and Montjeu, appearing on sides of the pedigree like Frankel.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Wow, does she have a good pedigree. I just loved Northern Dancer too.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
It’s off to Church. Be back later. Love Ya Orfevre.

I two questions; every once in a while, it is brought up that Coz doesn’t have the best confirmation. I don’t know much about what constitutes a great conformation, apparently, because to me, he looks beautiful. I will say, he might take a while to get to the races, because I think he is going to be big like his mother. I see a difference between him, and the Little Red Prince; he, even though a big boy, is more muscular, and compact. From pictures of his father, he looks to be built more like him. He might be able to race earlier, just based on that, and for the life of me, I can’t imagine anyone faulting his conformation! Can anyone clear-up about this confirmation issue? Also, does anyone know how long it might be, before anyone will get a handle on if it looks like Coz could be something special? I know with Zenyatta, they knew right off! Thank-you to anyone, who can shed some light on these two issues.
Kathleen95634
Coz is structurally sound…any flaws currently being pointed out have far more to do with phases of devlopement. He is very well put together and should mature into a superior horse.
maureen phi-llips
Dear Kathleen95634,
Good morning, Amen to that. Sometimes I get frustrated about all the questions and doubts as to the greatness of my handsome Prince CoZmic One, I just want him to enjoy his childhood which is usually short lived for horses, and let us enjoy it with him, There is plenty enough time to worry about how great he will be. Let us leave the future to take care of itself.
Another thing I know is that he will be a great horse, the fact that he has his mama’s kind eyes and gentle demeanor is no knock on how great he will be. Prince Red however, yes built differently has a more bullish no nonsense eyes that would stare down his competition which is all good. They will be great in their own different ways. Meanwhile, I am happy that they are the Queen’s Boys and however they turn out, we will be here loving on them. Every gift is from God, and we accept with humility which gift is bestowed.
Prince CoZ, you are PERFECT the way God intended you to be and we love you with all your perfect imperfections whatever they may be.
Have you all a Blessed restful day.
sue and tony
Well said!
Max
All criticism of Coz has been leveled by people who viewed photos of him on the internet. None of these critics have actually seen Cozmic One in real life. Their views therefore might be rather suspect. As to when one would know that Coz is special like Zenyatta, that has been known for some time now, from the day that he was born. Same for Red.

Treve and Moonlight Cloud dazzle on Arc day for France’s first family of racing
Staff writer Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder Sunday, October 6, 2013
The outstanding French filly Treve ran roughshod over one of the strongest fields ever assembled for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe to trounce Japanese superstar Orfevre by five lengths at Longchamp, with Prix du Jockey-Club winner Intello in third.
Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek last won the Arc in 1979 with Three Troikas, who was ridden by her brother Freddy, owned by her mother Ghislaine and bred by her father Alec. Thirty-four years later there was a similarly familial theme to events in Paris. Though Treve now races in the colours of Qatar’s Sheikh Joaan Al Thani, she is another Head family homebred and a descendant of Trillion, who was runner-up to Alleged in the Arc in 1978.

Moonlight Cloud won the Prix Foret today at Longchamps. Next stop may be the turf mile at the Breeders’ Cup. She’s may have her sights on Danny and Silver Max. Keep training, guys. This filly is on a roll.
Terry Crow
Isn’t Moonlight Cloud the same horse that got blitzed by Dan Last year?
Max
TC. Yes, but alas for Danny she is in top form this year.
Terry Crow
She has the same problem she did before. The trip to SA.. I wouldn’t bet against Dan.
Max
TC. The turf at Santa Anita also may not be to her liking. Longchamp is soft going most of the time on the straight. SA is hard with turns. I would never go against Danny. Silver Max looks like he could eat Euro lunch too.
Terry Crow
Max-Your vast knowledge of racing shines through. Turns make all the difference.

Johnny V reportedly okay and will ride rest of the card after Ichiban Warrior landed on his right leg when he fell. Horse is back at barn.
Note: After crossing the finish line, Ichiban Warrior made a veer to the right, crashed into the rail, fell, and rolled on John V’s leg. Looked really scary. John did get up, seemed to be limping & was checked out. Horse headed back to barn. Seems fine.

Please don’t get me wrong. I love both of these boys, and they are both beautiful, just different; I agree with Maureen about their built and demeanor. I just wanted some education on what makes good conformation, and when they usual know at the farm where they are trained, that they have something special. Zenyatta was not the usual as we all know. I’m so sick of people saying things about conformation, and I don’t know what they are talking about. All I have ever said about both of Zenyatta’s sons, is how well put together they are, and that they look very strong and sound. I have even stated that I felt that she was going to go down in history as a very influential broodmare. So please don’t take a question that I just wanted some education, as something against Zenyatta or her sons; I would rather rip my heart out, then do such a thing. I’m 71, and not in the best of health, and one of the things I want, before I leave this world, is to see these two boys make their mark in history!!
maureen phi-llips
Dear Roberta,
Greetings in our Lords Name, may you be Blessed today and always. In my write up, I was also expressing frustration towards those who are always talking about the’confirmation’ for our dear Prince CoZmic One, it was not in reference to your question because I could see you too were frustrated with the constant reference to his imperfections. There is no doubt that you love the Queen’s boys and I think that Max put it very succinctly, that the critics of our Dear Prince CoZ, is by people who see his picture and say things they know nothing about. The future will tell us. I too hope I live to see that day when his critics will be silence.
Let them worry about the confirmation and let us keep believing in his greatness and loving him and his current and future siblings.
If I offended you, I am sorry. Remain Blessed always, we are family always. LOL. It is well.
Kathleen95634
Good conformation in some ways is dependant on the job the horse is doing. A cutting horse will be very different from a jumper…just as an example. In all cases, legs and feet are, in my opinion, most important no matter what the dicipline. ..no foot, no horse. There are many places to go to get some examples…Equus mag always had a great section on examples of conformation. I would start there.
Roberta
Thank-you Kathleen for the information, and Maureen for your thoughts. This is the best site; there is so much love, like a loving family; I think it comes down from the love in Zenyatta and her extended family. It is truly special to feel the love!!
Something I happened to think about; one of my favorite horses, Seattle Slew, had a crocked right leg, that made him have sort a rolling gait, when he was running. If you see a front view video of him coming down the stretch, you see that leg flaring out, but what a racehorse he was. He still is the only horse to win the triple crown undefeated, and what a will to win!!! To me the important thing is heart, and both of these boys are full of heart from their mother. Even though it hurts to watch Zenyatta’s last race; if you want a lesson in heart, not only watch the race, but the two videos after. Her and Mike coming back after the race= She was so tired; not dancing and strutting like after her other races. She was so tired, but when the people started hollering her name, and saying we love you, she picked it up, and went into the crowd of fans who loved her. The other one is walking with Mario back to the barn= She had dirt in her eyes, nose, mouth, and it was caked all over her. She was so tired, she was sort of tripping on the dirt. She kept looking at Mario for comfort, and Mario was so worried, and kept looking over her back at John; she was completely exhausted, she gave her all to try to win. When I see it, tears come to my eyes; partly because I feel so bad for her, but partly because of seeing true greatness, and the heart to win. So let the people talk all they want about confirmation, or try to tear greatness down (like they did Seattle Slew) but the great ones do things like Zenyatta did, and silence all the people that want to tear down greatness, because even they can’t deny something so great that it brings tears to the eyes of men!!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Roberta,
Thank you for this beautiful post. We are all so fortunate to be here as friends and family.
Kathleen95634
Slew was ‘cow hocked’ and very slightly toed out. Cow hocked horses don’t break down as a rule. Slightly toed out is a little more managable with corrective shoeing than being over at the knees or club footed.

I suspect that this article was written so that additional funding could be obtained for the “study,” as is the case for many scientific theories. If this is accepted as fact rather than fancy, lawyers will rule the world in no time. I do not suspect that many will agree with me. I love dogs as much as anyone, but I hope that things do not get to the point where I can be prosecuted or sued for violating my dog’s rights.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
I do not want that to come to pass, either, Terry. Laws are a poor substitute/solution for a lack of human feeling, whether towards humans or simple “animals”. Communication and education have a better chance, but hearts and minds have to be open — often they’re not, hence we get more laws.
Terry Crow
Vicki-You put it much better than I did. we all want out animal companions to lead better lives and to be treated with the respect they deserve. All one has to do to change his or her perspective is to visit an animal shelter. If millions can be spent on weapons of war, why not spend a few million less and designate areas where unwanted animals can spend their days feeling that someone loves them. Speaking for myself, I love them all.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
That is a good idea, Terry. I read an article today about the PTSD among soldiers back from current wars, and that “suicides among active-duty military personnel last year outpaced troops killed by the enemy”…. with such a toll, then what’s the benefit of our involvement? All the money wasted on such wars and nightmare results might be better spent.
http://www.latimes.com/books/jacketcopy/la-ca-jc-david-finkel-20131006,0,259858.story
Terry Crow
Vicki-Thanks for posting this. Suicide was a big problem with the guys I served with. Perhaps both problems can be fixed by hiring vets to take care of unwanted animals at a decent wage. The problem is==people like you are not in charge and some of the ones in charge are less than admirable. On the lighter side, isn’t it about time for some relatives of rednecks jokes?
Terry Crow
Vicki-The one best suited to give an informed opinion is our friend Trina. She is a remarkable woman in many ways, not the least of which is the fact that she ran a dog rescue a few years back on her own land. As I understand it, associates of hers would go to kill shelters and rescue dogs whose time was up. The dogs were then taken to Trina’s rescue until and if a new home could be found. It is hard to imagine a more selfless act.

We are are a sentimental bunch aren’t we? The fact that our Queen is the mother of these two colts already gives them a “foot up” in my mind. When Z was at Keenland for purchase everyone passed on her except for the people who knew her true value and saw greatness when others saw ringworm and a large yearling who would take time to train and race. To my eye, both Coz and little Red are perfect and I’m thinking the folks at LE and all of team Z feel the same way.

Kathleen, do you own horses, you are very knowledgeable; I don’t even know what cow hocked is; I just read that he had a paddock accident when he was young, that left him with a crocked leg, and I could see it when there was a front view of him running. They did say, he had legs like tree trunks, probably why he stayed sound.
