Happy Monday!
Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One were visited by Jerry and Dottie this weekend. It was a particularly special visit because they were there to see Coz off as he departed Lane’s End for Mayberry Farm in Florida. At Mayberry he’ll follow in his mom’s footsteps and focus on his new routine—learning to be a racehorse. Alys captured video of his departure for the fans.
The team spent time with Zenyatta, who is looking great and in foal to War Front. They also said hi to 13Z, who’s having a blast this fall with his buddies.
We’d like to thank Lane’s End for all of the time, enery, and love that they have put into Coz. For that, we are very grateful.
Enjoy!

Sheena. Thanks for this. He was a real threat to the Big O. Read that Al Kazeem is carrying the hopes of Wales in the Arc. What is the connection?

Dear Sheena getting in here late today. Sheena I so hope he can do it. That is a really good group of horses running. I have been looking forward to this since they announced he would come back this year.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Have no idea about that! cant seem to find any connection with Wales.he’s got a bad draw though stall 18 the softish ground should suit him.my cousin is going to the Cheltenham meeting in a couple of weeks, who knows she may see Moosie.! The Hovis book is great fun, didn’t realise Hot Stepper was quite young (about 13) when he passed over.Karen says Hovis is a horse of a thousand lifetimes.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Found this. Looks like Al is Welsh through and through. He’s a beauty for sure, and a really good horse if The Queen Elizabeth owns him. Maybe he’ll win. It’s been done before from that gate. Big O nearly did it last year.

First-season sire Aqlaam dies suddenly
Sorrow for Shadwell Stud as promising young stallion is lost to a guttural pouch infection
Staff writer Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder Saturday, October 5, 2013
The freshman sire ranks lost a highly promising member on Saturday when Shadwell Stud’s Aqlaam died suddenly after failing to respond to veterinary treatment for an infection in his guttural pouch.
Aqlaam stood for four seasons at Shadwell’s Nunnery Stud
The eight-year-old son of Oasis Dream had made a good start to his stud career with his first juveniles this season, his six winners from just 15 starters giving him a 40% winners-to-runners strike-rate. They include Shadwell homebred Mitraad, the impressive winner of a Newmarket maiden on his debut on September 27,
and the 85-rated Aqlaam Vision.

I just saw this on my Twitter feed. Go vote for our Queen if you can, her and Tiznow are neck and neck! It’s an exciting race indeed!

Voted for the Queen. Love Tiz, but Z is the Queen.

Yes you are so right!!!!!
I voted for her also.

Thanks for the link Pati – as the others have said, vote early and often :-) The Queen is slightly ahead at the moment.

Even if you are not a Zenyatta fan, the historical aspects of her win the 2009 BCC cannot be ignored.
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca
I’ve voted twice already and she’s ahead by far right now. Go Zenny Go!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Will go vote again.

Thanks for the link. We agree…there is only one Queen and she ruled the track that day and every time she raced.
Ann Maree / Tennessee
BE SURE TO VOTE FOR ZENYATTA AS THE BREEDERS CUP MOMENT OF 30 YEARS!!!You can vote more than once, so don’t forget to check in often. She won the Calendar contest a while back, and I bet she wins this one, too. Her win in the Classic was a huge moment, and even according to Bob Baffert, who cheered her on in the Classic when it appeared his horse was out of it, her win in the Classic deserves to be at the top of the thriller list. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/81059/30-years-in-30-days-best-classic-poll

Dear Max Thanks for the link. I had no idea John Deer was welsh, I well remember the mighty Persian War in the 60’s. Will have to support him (Al Kazeem) now, but as usual will be happy whoever wins. Safe trips to all this weekend. Have just heard Cirrus Des Angles has won well,is back to his best. Hugs Sheena

Sheena. Check out video interview with Al’s owner which Keta posted above. Very nice. Al would indeed be a worthy winner. The Queen E also would be thrilled.

Sue,
Thanks, I voted, and guess what……..I voted again……..so you can vote more than once. It actually is quite close between Zenny and Tiznow……..so vote as much as you can. Hugs
Terry Crow
Tiznow’s repeat win was significant and unexpected but pales when compared to the historical aspects of Zenny’;s win, a not to be forgotten race. I do not need to be urged to vote for her. It WAS the best ever.
Max
TC. Her style was designed to excite racing fans, coming from way far back to win was so awesome to watch. Could not believe it. Still remember exactly how I felt at that moment when I watched her last race in 2010. Thrilled and glad to be alive to see it happening. Brilliant racer. Never to be forgotten.

Thank you all
TC you are spot on as always.

Dear Max What did I tell you yesterday Silver Max!!! 1st time I’ve watched WD live I’m so sorry I didn’t bring him good luck. Some real welsh weather there but not quite as cold as us. Don’t worry, he’ll be back for the BC. Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Yes, you called it. I’m in shock. Naturally we must blame in all on Uncle Johnny. Dan can do no wrong.
Janet Newman
Not a day for favorites.
Groupie Doll 3rd
Wise Dan 2nd but it was off the turf, which I think he is a monster on
Obviously off the board
Max
Doubt that the switch to poly was the reason as Dan runs on all surfaces. He was four wide for the whole race which may be a reason that he could not catch Max who was off like a bat out of hell. The race reminded me of the Brigadier and Roberto. No one was going to catch Roberto on that day not even the otherwise unbeaten Brigadier. Have to wait to hear what LoPresti and Uncle Johnny have to say. In shock. But that is why it’s a horse race.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Max
Did you notice that Dan appeared to have got bumped a little. I was wondering if it was direct contact. Don’t know. One of the guys mentioned it from TVG too. I know the horse did come over on him. Not sure if he hit him though.
Max
Peggy. Yes, that was Handsome Mike, who eventually finished last, I think. Uncle Johnny however never mentioned it in the after race comments. Time for the start of another streak.
Terry Crow
It wasn’t like he lost to a stiff. Silver Max is a very good horse. Actually, the owner has only himself to blame. He had notified Keeneland officials that, if the race STAYED ON the grass he was going to scratch Dan. Track officials did not want to lose such a marquee attraction, so it took the race off. I really don’t understand this. The race Dan won at Churchill Downs recently was run under worse conditions than those which existed Saturday.
Max
TC. Did not know this info. Bad move. Agree with you about the apparent conditions. The Firecracker looked a lot worse, at night with lightning bolts. Maxie ran away with that race. He might now be inspired for the BC Mile. And more Euros might come stalking. Danny needs to regroup, or maybe it’s Unce Johnny who needs to regroup and let Dan run?
Terry Crow
You may be right about JV. He should have been replaced for this race considering the injury he had, which he would never admit to. Too much money involved.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max They (sky tv) are making a documentary about Kauto, they’ve got an FB page
about it,mostly concerning his new career.A portrait of Frankel is being unveiled on qipco champions day, from what I’ve seen it’s stunning.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Kauto will be happy but not satisfied with a documentary. He wants a DVD of his wins. Would like to see that portrait of Frankel. I’ll bet that Frankel did not pose for it as he is already too busy with his mares.
Still in shock about Dan. Add Groupie Doll to the mix. Fine time for our namesakes, me and JudyB, as in Judy the Beauty, to decide to win against our favorites. Silver Max has Roberto in his pedigree through his mother, and he might have been channelling his illustrious ancestor today.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z fans:
Sorry to see Dan lose, but congrats to Silver Max and Robby Alberado. They held on stubbornly to win. Judy the Beauty with JV ran a great race too. Congrats to them. Hugs, JB
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Such an unusual racing day today with so many favorites going down. I guess we are spoiled with Zenny having 19 in a row. I’m glad there were no injuries that I’m aware of anyway, and all will live to race another day.
I was especially proud of Honor Code who started in the back of the pack and was dead last rounding the far turn. I think his jockey waited to long to start moving him, and he was 4 or 5 wide around the final turn but came powering down the field to lose by a nose. Actually reminded me of many of Zen’ s races. Hope he stays healthy for the derby. Here’s the video for anyone interested. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/81123/havana-denies-surging-honor-code-in-champagne
Max
Agree that Honor Code is one to watch next year. Good harbinger of things to come at 3 when it really counts for classic bound horses.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Yes, it was a good race. He almost made it (unlike some of my other picks today). I am certainly going the wrong direction in the cappin’ contest :-(
Terry Crow
Honor Code is the future book favorite for the 2014 Derby. However, the future book is one of the worst gambles in sports. If the horse does not run, you do not get your money back.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
So sorry to see the most beautiful capable Honor Code just missing it in the end of the race. The conditions didn’t sound too good and they moved to a synthetic track. Bloodhorse sent me this info.
Also sorry to see Wise Dan lose in his HOY winning streak.
This is why our Zenyatta unquestionably is and will always will be the greatest race horse of our time! Just imagine what she did! I know you all know, but in this perspective of other really wonderful race horses winning 9 straight wins, the odds for Zenyatta were just that too. BUT, she ran and won 19 of 20 and her twentieth race was just U N B E L I E V A B L E!! To top it off she is so beautiful and sweet and kind and does a Queens dance!! WOW, I still love her so much!!
hugs, Sally B
Zenyatta, I am always thinking of you; goodnight sweetheart.
lovenkisses on your soft nose, and to Coz, who has such a resemblance of you, and 13z
Auntie Sally B
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Kauto will never be satisfied until his DVD comes out. I cant recall the name of the artist ,but he went along to Banstead to study Frankel. You will live to fight another day with WD. Certainly a day for the bookmakers. Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Just looked at the results in CDA’s race. Noble Mission was 4th, which is not so bad in a huge field and being out of the country. Doyle was riding. As you know, Tom Queally used to ride all of Abdullah’s horses. What is he doing now for rides?
As for Dan, he will just have to start another winning streak as he will be racing, if we are lucky and if he stays healthy, until he’s 10.
I’m actually happy for Dale Romans. He’s a good guy. And no one can dislike Maxsie for winning.
Hoping that the Big O and Al are having a good rest before tomorrow. Moonlight Cloud also races tomorrow in another Prix?
Terry Crow
One of the other things that Keeneland management did was remove the “win and you are in” aspect of the race because it was taken off the grass. Dale Romans is very irritated about this.
Max
TC. Heard that they are meeting next week to reconsider the other decision to downgrade that race to grade 2 from a grade 1 with the move to the poly. It’s all kind of messy.
Terry Crow
Keeneland always feels that it is above everything. Was a long time before they even had a track announcer.
sheena.davies(wales)

Sorry ‘cappers I didn’t help the team today. I chose a good horse, Smarty’s Echo, but had him to win and he came in second. I saw John V. on We Miss Artie, but I guess because of Mr. Commons, I thought Artie’s kids prefer turf. Probably not great reasoning. It’s onward we go.

It was the best of days-Opening Day at Turf Paradise
Fantastic weather-sunny in the high 80’s
It was local Zenyatta Dumpling Day!
Diana (diastu in tempe) & Tressia with son and friend & Cheryl and I had a fun time.
We had winning Trifectas & Super Trifectas & Exactas at our tables.
And, being with Diana to watch Mr.Bossy Pants come in 3rd (by a head) from Santa Anita was a bonus We think that we spotted Karen & Auntie Judy.
But, it was also the worst of days.
TUP had a power outage for 2 hours just before fans started to arrive.
Water to the building had just been restored when we arrived.
For the fans in the Turf Club & Club House, it was an unusually rough time.
There were NO computers for the food service area
That meant NO food service, NO drink service, and NO air conditioning.
So, you had a trek to stands which were still operating to join a very long line of hungry thirsty grumpy folks. The wait was up to 2 hours according to some around us.
Glad that our group had been to TUP many times and knew that this
bad day was not the norm.
I do wonder how many new fans going through this will return.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
No, no. Poor Diana can’t catch a break.

Bluegrass Girl: So sorry for the not so nice day at the races at Turf. Hopefully, the track will offer a special incentive for those in attendance that day to encourage them to return.

You just gotta keep focused. Don’t stall, stay calm and don’t let the Filly get the best of you.
