Happy Tuesday!
If you’ve been following news about Cozmic One, you know he’s currently training with John Shirreffs at Santa Anita. Photographer Mike Sekulic was there for recent workouts, and he sent us these great photos.
John, along with racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, will be answering questions in our next edition of Ask The Experts. While they may not tell you when Coz will start racing, they both have decades of knowledge and experience to share. This is a rare opportunity to submit questions for two people who are at the root of Zenyatta’s success. Use the form at the bottom of this post to send us your questions. We’ll pick our favorites, so be creative!
Enjoy!

You bet! That Beast is a beast.
Mullins announced that Faugheen is going straight to Cheltenham without a prep. Be interesting to see if he runs against The Fly. Think Annie Power is going to the Festival without a prep too. Like Quevega. My fav Abyssial is suppoed to start this weekend at Gowran. He’s the one who took down short guy last spring. Great chestnut.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
These pictures are beyond awesome! Thank you so much to Mike Sekulic for taking and sharing these fabulous shots of our first “grandhorse.” He looks SO grown up, and the shots of him just flying along are breath-taking! Bernie was before my time (in the sense of interest in horses) – I’ve seen pictures, of course, but so many peeps here seem to have followed him and note the similarities in appearance. Coz is so dark and gorgeous!
Thanks to Team Z for the continuing coverage :-) Can’t wait til the next installment.
Our local dean of weathermen always says that things begin to turn around on Valentine’s Day. In the case of this year, we are gearing up for both the coldest weather of the winter so far and even more snow next week. My ability to tolerate this is fading fast. Hope everyone who will be in the deep freeze along with me stays safe and warm.
Barbara Wood
Oh, Sandy, I hope he is right. I can’t even imagine it. Polar bear hugs. Won’t even mention what it is here today.
maureen ph[llips
Dear Sandy,
you write so well, I love the part about your tolerance fading so fast very charming.! I’LL be Praying for you and the cold, My niece goes to university out there at the Ohio State University, one of the most beautiful campuses I’ve seen. But what has that got to do with the price of tea in China you’d say, nothing actually, just my lame way of saying I love your State and have some thing lovely to compare it to. You’ll be fine, just remember to layer up. It really does help. I love the cold, so why am I in CA?, that answer would be for another time.
Yes, our grandson, Prince Cozmic One is a charmer and my heart over flows with love for him. Have you noticed how silky his mane and Tail look, never seen it quite like that, he sure is special. A full moon kid indeed. Stay warm and think warm thoughts. It is always well at Z Nation. Much love to all.

Dear Sandy:
We’re gearing up here too for a storm on the weekend. Good news is it’s the middle of February. Love and Hugs, JB

Hi Sandy (NE Ohio), Our weathermen up in Wi. call it a cold blast or a cold spell. Bet that is what you are getting too.
A few years ago and more agile, winter used to be a blast! Now, winter seems soooooo long! I hope too that all who get these very cold temps find something to do to warm their heart at least.
luv n hugs, Sally B

Hi Sandy:
It was 7 degrees in my part of NJ this weekend.
It’s supposed to get even colder this Sunday.
Stay warm.

Hello Sandy, I’m Kathleen from CA and I also want to tell that you’ve written my sentiments exactly, regarding CoZ. Took the words right out of my mouth LOL! You described him beautifully. And I share your exciting anticipation for his first race! He certainly IS absolutely striking! Gorgeous.
I don’t ‘tweet’ but I did read some posts, yesterday. Is it true, that Mike Smith won’t be riding CoZ? Geeeez, I hope not.
My relatives are in LOWELL, MA. It was in the 80’s here, last week….way too hot! My heart goes out to all of you in this ‘Siberian cold blast’. It’s great for kids, but when you have to shovel so much snow, live with it, drive in it, wear layers over layers just to go to the grocery store,….forget it!
Stay warm!
Blessings.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Kathleen! Nice to have someone “on the same page” as they say about Coz. I am on the way out to at least clear my steps yet again – much more is beyond me at this point. I have to keep saying “spring will come, spring will come . . . .” :-)

Bob Simons features of Zenyatta on 60 Minutes were very special. Of course, all things Z are very special. He was an excellent correspondent and will be missed. I remember his reporting from war torn area.

Good day to all, I hope the Lord is Blessing everyone so far. It is a very warm day here in LA and am sending warm thoughts to all in the deep freeze zones. It is well.
Just wondered if any one has noticed how silky Prince Cozmic One’s mane and tail look!, In the last frame you can appreciate it better, he sure is a special full moon kid.
Much love to all. It is always well at Z Nation. Peace.

Goodnight. Nissy was so funny today. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank and all the Sweeties
Max
I love the comments about European bloodlines, in this case going back one generation. Sadler’s Wells is US born as is Danzig and Danehill. We all know that Northern Dancer is Canadian with a U.S. mother and dam sire.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Great to have NM’s Regal Bloodline in Kentucky. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
It arrived last year with Bullet Train. Only difference is BT has Sadler’s Wells as his sire, not Galileo. SW is Mission’s grandfather.
If you want regal, War Front has it and has already proved his abilities with Z Princess. They do not come better than her. Run free little girl, run free.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, I forgot about Bullet Train. Love him too. So true, War Front and Z’s girl was indeed a Princess of Royal Blood. RIP little Curly Mane. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
War Front’s daddy is Danzig. As I recall, he’s one of your favorites. No one messed about with him or Storm Cat.
Really miss the Princess. Still hurts to think of her loss. I think of her often. Must be awful for Team Z. All hope riding on the two guys.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, I loved Danzig. I don’t think we’ll ever get over losing the Princess. As you say, must be really difficult for Mr. and Mrs. M.
Still can’t walk by Dubai’s stall without tearing up and I know Sally feels the same for Sir. I know how much you loved TT. So many Z’sters and Dumplings have bonded with these beautiful beings. They touch us deeply and we’ll always miss them. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Z, COZ, ZI, V and Montey:
Goodnight. Happy Dreams. Love all of you so much. Hugs, JB
Z Princess, Dubai, will always love you.

Dear Max.Did you hear More of That is out of the World Hurdle he broke a blood vessel while training thought maybe Mullins would chose that race for Annie and not the mares?Yes,I heard about Faugheen the Fly will definitely take him on and it says rain tomorrow 1st time for weeks!I remember the short guy’s fall last year on Abby.I was so happy the horse was fine especially after his comments about Our Conor!Hope it’s not too cold and snowy with you!Sheena.Kauto is parading on the Tuesday with Laura neigh!

Can Nissy do this? This cat lives next door to him in New Brunswick. Maybe he should start his own business. I’d hire him.
Sorry to hear about More bleeding. Let it rain for The Fly. Abby, you are the man.

Be still my ❤️!!! He is just absolutely breathtaking!!! Thank you so much to Mike and all of Coz’s connections for these magnificent photos and for sharing them with us!!! I know we are all waiting with baited breath as to when his first race will be but I completely and whole heartedly trust John to say when he is ready. Would I like to see him be able to run in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont…heck yea….but only if he is 150% ready…. But alas we are so lucky to have an inside look to his training and workouts!!!
Cozmic One is just so special and I know is destined for greatness just like his beautiful mama Zenyatta and his handsome sire Bernardini!!!
Big hugs and lots of love to Coz and his amazing team,

Dear Max.That was one kitty who wasn’t put off by high drifts! Nissy was complaining they couldn’t reach the garage to get a shovel, think there’s about 4-5FT in his garden and expecting more!I got the whole story how his family were rescued by the peeps. He had a very sweet mum called Madison his dad only passed about a year ago.Sheena.

Thanks, Kathy, for your message, and for all of the wonderful devotions.

Mission looks very good. I wonder if he still has that Zorro hood. Cecil once said that Mission liked to wear it even in the barn. Without it, we can see how good looking he is as a horse. Has the Sadler’s Wells, Northern Dancer blaze. Mighty fine.

Hi Maureen…
The Big Beast is a race horse…currently training up to race in the Count Fleet at Oaklawn….he is about 18.0 or close to it….
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Maureen:
As Carol said, The Beast (Official Race Name The Big Beast) is a four year old that Max, Ann NC, Shirlee, Carol, myself and other Z’sters have been following.
He is a huge, powerful, beautiful athlete as the photo posted below and the video of his last win at Saratoga this past Summer show. He was sidelined with an injury in the Fall and has returned to training. I have linked his stats chart from Equibase below as well. Love and Hugs, JB

February 13 Cherokee Devotional
Ninety percent of what we worry and talk about never happens. If it were not for fear, insurance companies would go broke overnight and all the energy we pack into talking would be put into getting well and becoming wealthy.
Many exquisite rewards exist for those of us who can stop taking trouble. If we could keep our mouths shut and our eyes and ears open, there would be far fewer things to prey on us.

had hoped to do a triple assult on Oaklawn this weekend…so much for planning
will try for today…and Sunday
I wanted to get there on Monday for the Southwest….but the hospital called and I am scheduled for pre-admit testing, lab, and class that day….fasting and could last 3-4 hrs…I mentioned about it being Presidents Day…but they said no matter..
…
fasting blood work at noon….are these folks nuts!
…
this means I will miss ROC on Saturday too….ugh…
shirleeinindy
carol,
Been there, done that. Hope you get a good “sticker” Sometimes they aren’t so good and you end up with a lot of sticks before they hit the “mother lode.”
I know ROC will be disappointed that you won’t be there. I told him there would be a Zster cheering him on at the finish line.
Good luck and hang in there!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Yes, they ARE nuts!!! That is just incredibly insensitive to expect you to wait that long! It might be more trouble than it’s worth, but couldn’t you get the blood work done earlier and then have the rest of the stuff at noon?
Celeste_in_TX
That is just so wrong to schedule fasting bloodwork for noon! Ugh! I would have a very hard time making it that far without my morning coffee. Hang in there!

Dear Kathy.Thank you for the beautiful card!A lovely surprise.I gave CNSM a follow the ladies were swooning!Hovis was his usual hilarious self poor mum it seems there’s no hope for her!!I hadn’t heard the rumours about Carl retiring but Hovis will help him out with the media.Joey is still raising money even after his passing I always give to my local shelters.Peeps are wondering about Boo’s op seems poms get knee problems,he seems to be recovering well though plenty of rest and cookies.Am very worried about Kimberly and Fubu surely she would have said something if he were ill??It’s still very cold with Ray but Mango is enjoying the CA sunshine a real CA girl with her pink sunshades!Zoe is looking forward to meeting her she’s been busy delivering her valentines. The ratties were having a great time yesterday except for the crush in the cage!Dolly is having loads of power cuts usually 9hrs a day!Very troubled part of the world.Have a great Friday and lovely Valentine’s weekend.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
You’re welcome! Hovis’ update was so funny today. His poor mum! Bless angel Joey for all the good he continues to do from heaven. I saw all the speculations about what Boo was operated on for. It’s funny how we get to thinking we should be apprised on every detail of the famous animals and people we follow. Human hasn’t disclosed what the surgery was and it’s really none of our business. I just hope whatever it was heals quickly and Boo will be back to normal very soon. I can’t imagine why we haven’t heard from Kimberly. Maybe she’s been hospitalized. Possibly it’s Fubu. I hate to think the worst but that’s always possible, too. Poor Ray was trying to catch some sunshine coming through the window. Mango seems to be having a wonderful time. Can’t wait to see her with Zoe. That poor nurse who didn’t get a valentine from Zoe was sad. Apparently they’re going to get some more today. The ratties are having a good time. Must be tricky keeping track of so many rats! I always worry about Dolly living where she lives. As you say, a very troubled part of the world. Have a great Friday and enjoy the weekend ahead. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Carol on Arkansas,
Being running all day so had not had time to respond or should I say thank you for taking the time to educate me on who ‘The Beast’ is. I saw a video of him posted by Judy B from Rhodes, and he looks amazing. I can see why he is loved. He does not run like the Queen though but amazonian like her. Am a fan now and would be praying for not just the wins, but also that he remains healthy and Happy. Happy Valentines day to you and all your loved ones be it family members or just your Z family members. It is always well at Z Nation. LoL.

Dear Judy B from Rhodes.
Happy Valentines day, hope you get roses and lots of love. Our Blog is a better place because you are on it. Just wanted to say thankyou for letting me know who the Big Beast is . He sure is a beast, 18 hands?, thats incredible. He is amazonian like the Queen but has his style of running different from the Queen. Thanks for posting the the picture of him and his race, I am now a fan. He sure is handsome. I am now a fan and would be praying not only for the wins but for him to stay healthy and Happy. It is always well at Z Nation. LOL.
