Happy Wednesday!
As most of you know, we went to Florida at the beginning of the month to check in with Coz who has been at Mayberry Farm in Ocala for two months now. Jeanne Mayberry established the farm in 2000 and now runs it with the help of her daughters Summer and April. Today they are teaching Cozmic One the skills and routine that Zenyatta learned in 2005.
In this video from our visit you’ll see Ann, Jerry and John Shirreffs observe Coz’s morning from stall time right through to his post workout bath. Video and photos by Tyler Matson and Kyle Acebo.
We look forward to interviewing Jeanne about the process of breaking yearlings and her experience throughout the years. And in the next few weeks, the staff at Mayberry Farm will be answering questions from the fans in our Mayberry Farm Edition of Ask The Experts. Submit your questions below!
Happy Thanksgiving!
-Team Z

Thrilling win and with that pace! Way to show those kids how to run, Champ FO !

Flat Out is a very tough horse at Either Aqueduct or Belmont and this race set up perfectly for him. Glad to see the old guy still has it.

Dear Z Fans:
Really exciting finish between Honor Code and Cairo Prince in the Remsen. Kudos to both of them, but what determination by Honor Code to come back and get the win; great effort by both riders too. Here’s the replay. Hugs, JB

What we experienced yesterday does not form or shape our attitudes so much as what happened in childhood. Our beliefs, thoughts, and behavior patterns were formed in childhood and still hold the key to who we are today. Children are natural recorders, taking in minute detail and processing it for future use. If children regularly experience abuse and verbal cruelty, you can bet that they will, in turn, abuse and berate others.
But do our childhood experiences control what we do all of our lives, or can we change? We can definitely change if we really want to. We don’t have to drag imperfections from the past into tomorrow. So it was there. It is not holy, and it has no blessing in it. Some ancestor may be cherished, but to preserve his imperfections as our own is wrong. Claim your own life and fill it with light and love worth recording in years to come.
I have worked with one heart and one object. I have looked ahead into the future and have worked for the children of my people.

I’m predominantly Cherokee, with Cree (yes, CREE, not Creek) Choctaw, Irish, and African American…….
I enjoy your posts and thought you might enjoy this:
“Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of Passage? His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.
He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own. The boy is naturally terrified… He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!
Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm. We, too, are never alone. Even when we don’t know it, God is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us. When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him. If you liked this story, pass it on. If not, you took off your blindfold before dawn.
Moral of the story:
Just because you can’t see God, doesn’t mean He is not there.”

Congratulations to Flat Out, Will Take Charge and Honor Code. These were great races! Especially impressed with Code, who in only his 3rd start, changed his come from behind style and went with the pack and fought back pinned on the rail to win. This is my Derby horse for next year and I hope he stays healthy. Here is a picture of this stunningly beautiful boy……he does have his own facebook site too. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=175842412622984&set=a.162862137254345.1073741829.162609087279650&type=1&theater

Thanks Sue – he IS gorgeous, and it was a great race. I’m putting him on my “Derby hopeful list” too (and just pray that nothing comes along to knock him out before he even gets a chance).

Thank you, Sue. Honor Code is built like a Mack Truck.
All of these horses must have watched the replay of the BC Classic and learned the important nose reach technique from, MMM.
Proud of all of them. Stay safe and sound kids!

Honor Code is good looking. He is a ridgling like his sire and his running style is like his father’s. Praying his race career is safe and successful.

Dear Max Thank you for telling e about Churchill helping the WW1 warhorses to get back to the UK.I knew he was a great animal lover but somehow had missed this.I googled it and came up with a daily mail article,he was furious, that they were being left to the mercy of the French and Belgian butchers. Another who did a lot for ex warhorse was Dorothy Brooke, her husband Brigadier Geoffrey Brooke was a great friend of Warrior (the real war horse),she raised today’s equivalent of £20,000 to buy thousands of the horses to spare them from lives of misery. The Brooke celebrates it’s 80th anniversary next year , I always support them when I can.Sad to hear about the train derailment in the Bronx area.hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. He was a great man in all things. Loved horses and owned many thoroughbreds who won some significant stakes races.
Did you see any of the races at Fairyhouse? Analifet did really well today winning the juvenile hurdles against males. She’s only 3. Also happy to see The Tullow Tank win well.
Check out Moosie. He’s now using French profanity because his fans cannot understand his riddles. That horse is totally amazing.
Terry Crow
Churchill is one of the five greatest men who ever lived. Where does he belong on the list? I would not even try to rank them,.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Terry C.,
You are quite right about Winston Churchill. What a magnificent fellow! He was one of my grandfather’s heroes — he would sometimes call on Churchill’s style whenever he had to make a speech or prayer. Of course, Granddaddy was MY hero, and still is to this day — a bit like Will Geer’s “Grandpa Walton”, too. Wise with a keen sense of humor — rather like you, I think.
Cheers and Hugs

Dear Max Saw a couple of races from Fairyhouse APs ‘win in the Hatton grace. Have heard Paul is thinking of putting Celestial Halo in the world hurdle against Big Buck’s Halo won really well at Newbury on Saturday,am praying Ruby can ride Buck’s.It’s really funny how a horse is getting so popular for NOT racing and he wouldn’t dream of trying the all weather! Can you imagine him on the dirt in the US?? It promises sunny but very cold at Sandown on Saturday we don’t want ANY snow!!! hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Ruby recently said that Big Bucks is the best. However, Celestial Halo is a Galileo, and very handsome indeed with that Sadler’s Wells blaze and nice socks like Frankel. Isn’t Ruby riding only for Willie Mullins now? He was riding the filly Analifet today for Willie who has many nice mares and fillies in training. However he later lost on Alonso to The Tullow Tank. I love that horse. He’s relentless like his name. Danny Mullins trains him.
Moosie says that he hates sand in his face so that US dirt racing is definitely out. The UK or Ireland is the place to be if you are an eccentric, charismatic horse. Few are more eccentric and charismatic than the Moosester. Has the Moose been giving magazine interviews?
Elena Erdman
Just gorgeous and very very healthy looking.
Ashton
Thank you Team Z for understanding our love for all things Zenyatta, taking the time, having this blog for us , and for keeping us informed. My entire family loves the photos and videos you provide. Thank you for continuing to bless you.
Zenyatta is and will always be a “GIFT” that keeps on giving. Much gratitude, respect and love always.

So sorry for the numerous typos! Too many to correct.
Thank you for continuing to bless US!

Zendini needs to grow into those ankles and pasterns! Nice boy.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max I don’t know about the interviews,I wouldn’t put it past him!!!Ruby always promised to ride for Paul if he could hasn’t so far though. We British are very eccentric even if I say so myself !!!The Stewart family own Halo and Bucks Halo seems to have had a resurgence lately.Hoping to see Buck’s back in January. Goodnight Hugs Sheena Dave’s gone to China!!
Max
Sheena. I will try to locate that reference to the magazine. It’s supposedly a Moose tell all article. That would be interesting. Halo is doing very well. There’s a lot of talent in his pedigree. I made a mistake earlier about Danny Mullins. He’s The Tullow Tank’s jockey, not his trainer.
Did you know that Dave has Welsh blood from his mother? I guess that with Dave away in China Nick is in charge. I think daily of the other Nick and hope that his laminitis is going away. Power up Nick.

Dear Judy My emails are playing tricks again!! Do hope your brother-in-law is better ,must have been upsetting for Allee.Julie’s dad is quite poorly now falling out of bed so often, she’s constantly on watch. The little cub was named Bao-Bao wasn’t that the one you liked, hope I can forward you the email tomorrow. Goodnight God bless you, LM PC HT and all the Sweeties. Love and hugs SheenaX

Dear Sheena:
Sorry your still having so much trouble with the e-mails. Thank you for thinking of my sister, Allee. Yes, she was beside herself with worry.
So sad to hear about your cousin Julie’s Dad. Very difficult when you’re the only caregiver. It’s 24/7 care at this point that’s needed and just impossible for one person to do. I will pray for both of them.
Yes, Bao-Bao was the name I picked. Have a wonderful week. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT and all the Sweeties

Watching Coz have to put a word in reminded me of how he would squeal when he ran across the paddock at high speed wanting everyone to watch him when he was just a baby. Love that boy!

When this industry breaks my heart ( the selling of Awesome Feather for no good reason) I come here and I know that some people will love THIER babies until the very end , and that it is MORE than just a business . I flew 2,000 miles to kiss Zenny, she saved me, and her owners continue to save my faith in horse racing every day. Thank you God for the Moss’s and John.

@all–at this point I’m not sure which blog post we are using, but I wanted to share this wonderful story of animals helping other animals.

I’ve decided to post this here as I consider this to be the true blog page. An older couple is discussing the inevitable matter of death. The wife asks her husband “If I die before you do, will you remarry?” The husband replied “Well, I do not want to be lonely for the rest of my life, so yes.” The wife then said “What about the house? will you live in the same house?” The husband replied “Well, I suppose, seeing how it is already paid for.” The wife, getting a little protective, asks “What about my car? Will she be driving my car?” The husband replied “Well, its paid for.” The wife, annoyed at this point, shouted “What about my golf clubs?” The husband then says “Oh.no. She’s left handed.”
Marshall (NC broad)
Oh My!!! I think she (the wife) may very well outlive him!
Thanks, Terry. I am laughing out loud with intermittent giggles!

Don’t know why, but I burst into tears when I saw Ann kissing CoZ, and CoZ trying to kiss her back. So loving and tender!

Thanks for the update on Coz. The pictures are really nice.
Seatower
Coz looks great! He seems to take everything in stride and has a good, kind eye. His conformation grows more magnificent every month…I hope that, like his mother, he does not race until his body, legs, and mind are ready (4 years?)…that way he, too can turn heads and make records! He certainly is in good hands with Shirreffs and his staff.
Kalar Walters
Coz is such a good boy! And so handsome! :D
