We have a feeling that many of you have heard the news! Cozmic One has arrived at Belmont to train with John Shirreffs. We initially kept it under wraps because there is already enough excitement in New York surrounding this weekend’s Belmont Stakes.

If you’re anxious to hear about his introduction to John’s barn, you’ll find more information here on the blog next week. We’ll be sharing photos and video of his arrival along with a little news about what has happened since.

Be sure to check back tomorrow. We have a very special edition of Ask The Experts for you, and it features some experts who know Coz quite well.

    Dear Max.Emotional day in Normandy,beautiful weather though.A Sea the Stars daughter won the Oaks called Taghrooda out of a Sheikh Hamdan mare Ezima,first classic victory for Paul Hanagan.As you know it was named in honour of the late,great Sir Henry this year and Lady Jane presented the trophy.
    The trials of being Hovis’mum she’s nothing if game though despite all the bruises.I wonder what he has in store for Aunty Becky!!The power of the feather!!Free the Moose.PU Dan.Sheena.

      Sheena. Saw the President’s speech on TV this am. Glad that the weather is good for everyone. Liked the Queen’s hat. She knows how to carry off the look to be center of attention. She’s the only contemporary of the war among the leaders, quite an achievement.
      Bravo to Tagi. Have to check that race out. Tomorrow Epsom. And the Belmont.

        JudyB. Sheena knows what we like to see. That was very thrilling to see Tagi run like that. She’s only a baby but she understands what to do. That race is tough. It’s a mile and a half on very undulating turf. It’s the filly equivalent of the Derby. Very impressive win. If you check her pedigree, she’s inbred to Northern Dancer. Danzig is in the sire line. Sadler’s Wells on the distaff. Her granny, Urban Sea, won the Arc. Urban Sea is momma to Galileo too.
        Laughed when I heard the name Amazing Maria. Reminded me of Awesome Maria, Mo’s reluctant girl friend. Amazing’s a pretty good racer herself but did not do so well today.

        Judy & Max, Taghrooda really did a great job, Thanks! Once clear, just pulled away. Judy, I had to laugh at your “Go Australia! Go Chromie! Power Up Danny! Loose The Moose!” It’s going to be a day like that. Major Purple and Green!

        The L.A. Times this morning has a great front-page article all about the Central Valley Community (Coalinga and environs) where California Chrome was born, bred, and fed, including Harris Farms race manager Debbie Sue Winick, River Ranch, where he trained as a yearling, and the whole story of DAP we now know so well.

    Happy for him and this next stage.. BUT kicking myself BIG TIME for not getting up to Mayberry Farm to see him while he was there.. I only live 45 mins away.. Visited there day before my cancer surgery..February of 2012 missed meeting John and Dottie by 5 mins..Kept saying when Z? (COZMIC ONE) got there I would go see Jean and the girls again.. just kept putting it off.. Oh well maybe I will with the next Z when he gets there…Had my picture taken at Zenyattas , Coz’s stall. Kept me going through cancer surgery and treatment.. Now cancer free for 18 months..

    Ohhhhhh—He’s SO gorgeous!!! Can this be the feisty little guy who could run under his mommy’s tummy???Imagine!!!!! He will never know how much love travels with him around and about,but,he is one lucky boy!!! John must be so happy and proud to be working with him at last!!

    Am SO excited about tomorrow I can hardly breathe–know I will be crying the whole way after the gate opens. Just hope he runs HIS race,with no interference all that all come home safe–behind him!!

    We had such fun last week at the Obstacle event!! Everyone loved our fancy outfits and I got many lovely compliments about Barnaby–about how beautiful he was and how good. We did have quite a time at the water feature though. We did a lot of ground work before riding and it turned into quite a scene!! As my relief gal,Super Debbie is here to let me out for the weekend,unless my iPad gets fired up this weekend,the tale will have to wait until Monday!! Sorry!!

    Seems like forever we have been waiting to see him at the gate. Doesn’t matter how he does, just to see him run…..and start his new Athletic career. I like everyone here wish him nothing but the very very best. He will run his races! I will always be a Die-Hard Fan just as much as I was for Zenyatta. He has developed beautifully and I have seen the articles from his being schooled, and how he took to it quickly.
    Win or lose his fist Maiden run is going to be SPECTACULAR,
    I hope and dream of Mike Smith being his rider. Who else would be best? ;-)

    Dear Max.Poor Nissy is in FB jail MOUSES!!There have been a lot of complaints about FB lately,I have belonged so don’t quite understand their rules,hope he gets out soon!Taghrooda handled Epsom just like her famous dad if she continues to progress they might think of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
    There are great pics in the Daily Mail of the ceremonies at Normandy.I thought President Obama’s speech was very good it was great to see so many nations represented.The Queen is still held in high regard throughout the world life will seem very strange when she is no longer around.
    I was reading about Judy an English pointer who won the Dickin medal(animal VC) she was the mascot of the HMS Gnat and the only animal to be made a PoW.She died in 1950 in Tanzania and is buried there.A very courageous dog.Free the Moose.PU Dan.Sheena

      Sheena. Tagi was incredible. What a finish! She lived up to her pedigree. Have to see his the colts do tomorrow.
      I don’t understand what has happened to Nissy. How can he be in jail? His blog is still working. Have his peeps done something wrong?
      I watched the Queen getting out of her car in France. Very elegantly done. Hope that she is not too tried from all that to get to Epsom. Don’t even think of the alternative to the Queen. Long, long may she reign.

    Belmont Stakes’ track not as simple as ‘just turn left’ for Triple Crown bid

    Jockey Victor Espinoza has been anticipating Saturday’s Belmont Stakes for three weeks, and he’ll need more patience to maximize California Chrome’s performance as they seek the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978. Before last Saturday, the longtime California regular hadn’t ridden since 2008 on Belmont Park’s massive main track, whose circumference (11/2 miles) and configuration are unique.
    Jockeys based elsewhere often move prematurely at Belmont, where the huge, sweeping turns make them think the finish line is closer than it is. Calvin Borel took off way too soon in the 2009 Belmont on Mine That Bird, who looked like the winner in midstretch before fading to third. Borel had downplayed his unfamiliarity with the layout, saying, “It’s like any other track, you just turn left.”
    It’s not that simple.

    I had seen the photos and wasn’t sure it was him at first!!! He sure has grown up since his last pics!!! Glad to hear that he will be trained by John!! Can we hope that Mike Smith get’s a chance with this boy??? he sure did a great job with Coz’s Mom!!! Hopefully he will be running and winning soon like his famous mother!!     Hi Z’sters,
    I watched the inaugural running of the Belmont Gold Cup this afternoon — 2 miles in length. Our “dratted” Johnny V. was aboard Charming Kitten, and they won! Congrats to them and to the Ramseys. Also, to Kitten’s Joy, CK’s papa.

    I am hoping and praying that California Chrome and Victor Espinosa will capture the Triple Crown! Love everyone associated with CC, and of course, especially him.

    No offence, I hope the Mosses and John think outside the box now when considering Jockeys for Coz. Mike has shown no success with John’s horses since Zenyatta including Eblouissante. He has 2 speeds, fast in front or slow and in back of the pack with any horse he rides. Victor Espinoza CC jockey seems to adjust to the horse and dynamics of each race as it unfolds he has said. Would like to see what he thinks of Coz and take him for a test drive.

      You’re kidding right? Mike Smith is one of the best jockey in the country. How many Breeders Cups has he won? How many Grade 1’s did he win last year? How many wins did he have with Zentatta?
      With all due respect to Victor, because he is a talented jockey, but I don’t think he’s the only one that would have done well on California Chrome. So now that he does, everyone all of a sudden says he’s the best jockey ever and should be the rider on Cozmic One, who to many is already a percieved superstar? The horse makes the jockey, not the other way around. Don’t blame Mike for Zenyatta’s onlu loss or Eblouissante’s losses when he rode her. If Cozmic One is good, you can put any good jockey on him and things will work out in the end. I think if Mike is riding, it would be fitting to put him on this horse.
      I could not disagree more to your comment.

    So sorry that there was no airing of The Longest Day on D-Day. Like you, I watch it every time it is on — love the theme song and the musical accents, too. AMC showed it over the Memorial Day weekend which was good except that AMC has commercials. Still, I watched it; it is one of my favorites.

      Marshall. Yes I was also disappointed. I took off Friday afternoon thinking that AMC would show it but no luck. I did however see it last over Memorial Day weekend.

      Sheena. Just got back from some errands. Very happy for you. Indeed he has lived up to his mother’s expectations. She was a first class racehorse and has instilled those qualities into her son. Agree with Cecil. Look to the mare and her family for breeding. Perhaps OB will be another Kind?

        JudyB. He may get that red coat from granny Urban Sea, although he has chestnuts on the distaff a few generations back. I saw a photo of Ouija Board with Australia as a foal. She is no meek little horse. I’d call her formidable in protecting her baby. Same kind of look as Goldikova.
