Thank you for posting. From time to time I wonder if he will be Z’s size. He is looking good. He’s young and still may grow. Know he maturing into to a beautiful horse.
Wow!! What a looker Coz has become. I will be showing my ignorance here. What is that on his bridle and what is its purpose? He looks like he likes the chain in his mouth. I wonder if that is the reason he is standing so quietly. Maybe it’s like a pacifier for him? I think the hope was by mating Zenyatta to a stallion smaller than she, the offspring wouldn’t be as big as she is. I guess time will tell if that holds true. It looks like Coz is well on his way to her size. Thankfully he is with John Shirreffs who will know exactly how to proceed with Coz.
The white piece of equipment is called a bit holder. I use one with my OTTB, just holds the bit in their mouth, it suspends it. I must say Coz is looking very strapping and handsome. Can not wait to see him in his first race.
The attachment on his bridle is called an australian noseband, it lifts the bit slightly so it’s harder for Coz to get his tongue over the bit :) He does look lovely doesn’t he? So much like his mom!
Thank you Laura, Savannah S., KB, and Crystal for your replies to my question about what is on Coz’s bridle. It sounds like he wants to be a “take charge” kind of guy I know John S. will not break down his spirit in any way, but will make sure he is kept safe and under control.
Marty, I thought they were just trying to be sure that the foal wouldn’t be too big – didn’t think that the adult size was the issue, but I could be wrong about this.
The little Prince has grown up. You were an adorable foal and now look at you!
Coz you are a handsome colt. Of course with Mama Z’s looks we would not expect
anything less.
@Max I just checked the previous blog and saw your answer to my question if Zenyatta would be going through any special preparations before mating again. I did know the reason for her being given the year off in order to have an earlier foal, but did not realize it went against nature for a foal to be born in the winter. That does make perfect sense, though. So, Zenny’s body will have to be “tricked” again with the lights to simulate a warmer time of year. Thank you so much for passing along that information.
I always hold my breathe when I see Coz, from the moment of his arrival, has been my heart-throb. ;-)
Wow 16.2 hands already…..He surely is sound, confident looking, just like his Momma and Dad. Not that I ever would have expected anything less.
I know I join many others who can not wait to see him at the gate.
Also I am so grateful for The Moss’s for sharing Zenyatta and her life with us all.
Bless them and the entire Team, you all have Angel wings!
Warm Regards from NC
WOW!! What a big boy. Thank you Team Z for keeping us posted on Coz. He looks so much like Mom. Love you Coz. You listen to John and you will do just fine when you start to race. He took really good care of your Mom and we expect no less for you.
Dear Peggy,
I’m sorry to have caused you any worries, but I have been fine. I became an official five year survivor in July this year. It’s so good to “exhale”, but do not take anything for granted and still stay vigilant.
I also entered a new decade this year. Happily, 70 doesn’t feel as old as it had looked to me in younger years…but, there still are some moments. lol
As long as me and my “limp along” computer still function, I expect to be a regular poster, again. Love, Marty R
Tall, Dark and Handsome — That’s our Coz!! He has that regal look of a Champion, doesn’t he? At 16.2 hands, he’s definitely going to be bigger than Bernie and if he’s like Zenyatta, he’ll still be growing as a 3 year old colt.
While I so enjoy the updates on Coz, I sure wish we would get an update on Z’s “Chestnut Perfection”. He has been in training at Mayberry’s for about two months now and I’d love to know how he is progressing with this phase of his training.

it’s called a stud chain and it’s for control. it’s not much different than a bit in a horse’s mouth.

It’s basically to keep him from being able to get his tongue over the bit and take control. Thatwas my understanding anyway.

Sandy, I think both ideas hold merit. Maybe both were considerations along with pedigree compatability, of course.

Coz is just beautiful! Wow, and still growing!

I’d like to know, too. Given his height, he’s probably around 1100 pounds.
