Just saw on Bloodhorse.com that American Pharoah’s stud fee has been set at $200,000! He is a great champion but that much for an unproven sire? So many times the great ones do not reproduce themselves. Good luck to him and anyone who can come up with the money to breed to him.
lauraj_cincinnati
I think they’re following the precedent set by Frankel’s connections of charging a boatload of cash right out of the gate. There is already a list of very nice mares who are going to be visiting him.
Tizgood
Great point Shirlee-he is unproven and he is not Frankel ( more $$$ for
those who have kept a percentage of his breeding rights)
If I had a blacktype mare; I get her on Tapit’s book – Ha Ha Ha,
don’t I wish.
Love and hugs
Terry Crow
Agree. Totally ridiculous. I don’t know how many horses earn that much in their careers, but I can imagine that the percentage is low.
Sally B. (Auntie cherishes Z and her young)
shirleeinindy; It may be a lot of money but owners etc. are looking for that one great race horse and as in the past, they are willing to pay for it. Look at the horses that sell as yearlings or two year olds, $800,000 to $2,000,000 or more. Granted they do know and have studied the pedigrees. Not many acquire the status of Triple Crown winner and Breeders Cup Classic winner having traveled back and forth for thousands of miles to race. I agree, many are not able to reproduce themselves and it is a gamble. It is easier to drop the price than to increase it until he has sons/daughters that really prove themselves; then it could go up again.
hugs, Sally B
Kathy
Dear Shirlee,
I read that too! They’re saying he could make 40 million next year. We’ll have to stay tuned…
Tizgood
Dear Kathy,
They don’t even know if he is fertile, yet.
Love and hugs
Kathy
Dear Tizgood,
Yeah, the joke would be on them if he isn’t!
Hugs, Kathy
Tizgood
Dear Kathy,
That sure would be quite a shock and unexpected. When Lure came up sterile; the insurance company sold him to a few breeders to work on his fertility for quite a few years. When he was pensioned, Claibourne asked for him back and he lives a great life there. I sure hope that does not happen for the horse. He is a great horse and very talented. $$$ gets very discouraging, though.
Love and hugs
Terry Crow
I think that Assault, a triple crown winner, turned out that way. He was returned to racing after a few years. Ran against Citation at Hollywood Park.
shirleeinindy
Tizgood,
When I worked in the insurance industry, we called the fertility coverage “Is Your Stud a Dud?”
Tizgood
Dear Shirlee,
That is great !!!
And TC interesting about Assault.
Sally B also, good points as well, but if
he shoots blanks its all out the window.

Dear Kathy. We had our autumn sunshine now it’s rain and more rain but incredibly mild!I always said I’d be happy living in a shed in the woods!Very sad state of affairs in London last night with the anti-capitalists on the march.6 horses severely injured. One young student who tried to stop them attacking the horses was beaten up.This is what young men women and horses died for??So scumbags can walk our streets with their utterly pathetic protests!!!More force is badly needed at these marches.
Ed Dunlop has arrived back and Red is recovering well.He has written a beautiful tribute on his website. They haven’t decided yet where Red will spend his “easy”days. They have had so many wonderful offers. His owner will decide eventually.Gary Moore was kicked by one of his young horses yesterday and is in hospital.Already planning his escape. He was mad they called an ambulance. The Moores have all inherited their dad’s iron will.Hovis did love his XC despite the jumps and fog and he got to travel in style.Judy is on her travels something to do with Mango’s surprise. The rats got to bisit Southfork and the police thought Mr Fibbs had shot JR but his ID proved he wasn’t even born then!I think they’d have a bit of trouble finding Miss Ellie! Have a great Friday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
I am so sorry about the anti-capitalist mess in London. Who do they think they are by treating fellow creatures in this way? Disgusting behavior, indeed.
Prayers continue for Red Cadeaux — Power Up, Red!
Hugs and Love
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Sorry to read of the chaos in London. Prayers for those injured. Wonderful news that Red is recovering well. Prayers Gary Moore gets out of the hospital soon. Horses are so big, they can do some damage when they kick you! I smiled when I read the Hovis update. He truly had a ball. I know Mango will be overjoyed to see Judy and Nay again. I’ll have to go back and read about South Fork. Wow…does that ever go back in time! Happy Friday to you, and enjoy the weekend ahead. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Can’t believe it’s been five years ago today—Nov 6, 2010—-that we watched Zenyatta run the final race of her career. Always our Queen!!!!!
Sally B. (Auntie cherishes Z and her young)
Debbi M; I was just talking to a member of our horse sanctuary telling her all about Zenyatta this morning! Time has flown by so fast but my memories being at that race watching our Queen is so vividly clear. So much to love about Z.
hugs, Sally B

Remembering our Zenyatta and all the thrills she brought in her races and now as a magnificent momma-looking forward to her next surprise.Love you Zenny,
I am sad the Ramsey’s sold Stephanie’s Kitten, she was “like a pet and much loved, the family wanted to keep her” but business won out and she is going to Japan.
Terry Crow
I would have though that Ken Ramsey was above this. I doubt that his family needs money that bad.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Terry.Ditto!!Sheena.Looks like Trouble who won the Cheltenham gold cup in 2000 is now Richard Johnson’s family pet.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear TC:
Me too. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Terry,
I agree with what you said. Stephanie’s Kitten deserved much better treatment as “a pet, and much loved”.
Hugs and Love
Tizgood
So very much agree with everyone about Stephanie’s Kitten; she is a very
special mare. I think behind that smile KR has a little arrogance and ruthlessness. There was that article in Bloodhorse about him controlling the BC turf with the pacemaker and how the pacemaker could change a horses
planned trip. The owners of GH read that article and after the turf in the Racing Post made a comment about the poor quality of the pacemaker in the turf- touche’. I was hoping they would respond as they use pacemakers all the time and are much better at selecting them and strategising around them. I do love the Ramseys, but I guess being in the business can change
one a bit.
Love and hugs
Linda in NJ
Hi All:
Thanks for reminding us of the date of Zenny’s last race! I didn’t remember the date, but I sure do remember that race: Thriller in the Night!!! How could anyone ever forget that race! Thank you Zenny for all the thrills you gave us.
I am surprised they set the fee so high for American Pharoah, but no doubt they paid a lot of money for those breeding rights. I would imagine there’s a lot of money to be made up before seeing a profit. I seem to remember reading that Judy the Beauty will be one of Pharoah’s girlfriends.
Wow, that was a shocker that the Ramsey’s sold Stephanie’s Kitten!! I hate seeing our horses going to Japan. I hope they bring her back.
With love,
Linda
Terry Crow
It is my understanding that Zayed sold the rights too soon, not wishing to gamble on a triple crown.
Terry Crow
It is good to be back with my friends on the blog. Here are a few Rodney Dangerfield jokes. I get no respect. My wife kisses the dog on the lips but refuses to drink from my glass. I was so ugly as a kid that when I went to the top of the Empire State Building planes started to attack me.

So good to have you back. I am still tee heeing. Don’t think that is a word but you know what I mean.
Absolutely disgusted with Ken Ramsey. And like you, I don’t think he needs the money. Bless Claiborne and Ms. Dilschneider for sending Lea home to the farm. Has his dad’s stall. Don’t know how First Sam feels about being displaced by his boy.
Sally B. (Auntie cherishes Z and her young)
Terry, I do not come on the blog as much as I’d like so what a pleasant surprise!

Dear Sue and Sheena, Amen
Love your comments. He gives us such wonderful gifts in our lives. Especially in the harder times of life. But the joys He gives are sometimes beyond what we will ever really understand and appreciate. What a beautiful gift Zenyatta has been. And to bring us all together here in her fan family is pure wonder and joy. This family of hers on her website is one of the best presents in my life. I’ve never been a part of a blog family before hers. I think many of us feel this way. with love, Elizabeth

So beautifully said and I 100% agree! Zenyatta has definetly been a gift sent from God. I am eternally grateful for this gift.

Dear Sheena,
That was very sweet of Treve to wish Criquette birthday greetings. I am sure Treve misses her trainer, too.

So sorrry to hear about Gimme Da Lute. Rest in Peace beautiful boy.
I so wonder if he woke up in the Water Pool after his surgery. Seems like this should have helped him. Barbaro woke up in the Water Pool after surgery. I guess we don’t know if GD Lute did or not, or if he broke it later. So sorry to hear about his passing.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
I thought that was the greatest think that Dr. Richardson had Barbaro to wake up in the pool to keep him from Thrashing and hurting himself. I think they had him just wake up in the water. Harnased someway. I was avidly keeping tabs on him daily at the New Bolton web site. Don’t think I will ever get over losing him later.

November 7 Cherokee Devotional
Few children still have the chance to be innocent. They have been made to look like miniature adults, taught to act adult, and abused because of it.
We sympathize with abused children and say that is the way the world is, what can we do? It is an easy loophole that lets us go on our way-wishing things were different but doing nothing to make it so. This is why we have so many throwaway children. We have cut loose from our responsibility to pray.
Where did we go wrong? We made children competitive and gave them nothing for inner strength. We curled their hair and twisted their minds. They are going to learn it somewhere-so why not from us? Sadly, we haven’t given them what they need because we don’t have it ourselves.
Can it be that you and your children will hear that eternal song without a stricken heart?

Dear Kathy. So late today!Last day of the flat and a few jumps as well.Simonsig is back after a lengthy lay-off.I blame parents and technology for the loss of innocence and I have to say this as well, everything has changed since so many mothers started returning to work. Our mothers were home for us.Bob’s Worth won but Simonsig was 2nd a good return to the racecourse.Nicky will be pleased. Is’nt Mattie the new sissy soo adorable? Her mum was a rescue from a puppy farm and she will be tiny too.We had some heavy rain overnight and going is heavy at most tracks.Michelle Payne is coming over for the Shergar cup next year she is very excited.Mr Fibbs says you have to stock up n your doughnuts if you live in Minnesota it’s going to be bery cold there. Is’nt it the homestate of Walter Palmer who killed Cecil?Hope he freezes to death!Red is still recovering well but there is a long road ahead for William Fox-in-a-hole.Prayers for him and Alice.Have a great day Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Having a much-needed lazy Saturday. I got a reprieve from Pilates! My instructor is running a 5K race today so no session. YAY!!! Enjoy the flat and jumps. Congratulations to Simonsig on coming in 2nd. Mattie is a very adorable little dog. Mango will be so fond of her. I guess you would need a good doughnut supply to make it through a Minnesota winter. I know Walter Palmer lives in Minnesota, but I’m not sure if that is his home state. The scum is probably never very far away from a nice warm fire…Glad to hear Red is still recovering nicely. Prayers for William and Alice. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the weekend. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

So excited CC is breezing and he is strong and aggressive; he wants to get back to training and the races. Everything happens for a reason and it is good he missed all the
hype with AP. He is going to be a strong 5 year old. Wishing him the best in his return as
a 5 year old and in the San Pasquel. So happy for Art Sherman to get him back and to
train him for the whole year as a 5 year old.
Go CC !!!

Dear Fans
1 – American Pharoah will have all of his shots and vaccinations, and have his sperm
tested for levels of fertility before any mares are bred to him. He is a great champion, right up there with all of the other Triple Crown winners. He is deserving of his place in equine racing history.
2- I believe this is Zenyatta’s website. Why is almost everyone here talking about AP?
Janie (in L.A.)
Because we all love horses, no matter who they are…
sheena.davies(wales)
I have always believed we love ALL animals on this website and I am sure Zenyatta would agree with me!!!Sheena.
Terry Crow
sheena- good sentiments. I wish to thank my friends on the blog who responded to my Rodney Dangerfield jokes. I had the pleasure of seeing him in person and it was non-stop jokes for an hour, some of which I can’t repeat here. It is good for my soul to be back among friends. Ann-What goes with the Wolfpack?

Terry so glad to hear from you. Loved the jokes. We missed you.

Ahooooo, have to check on the score against, BC. Ahoooo!
Peggy (N) South Georgia
OMG, I can’t imagine this site without having everyone’s love shared about the Animals they love. I absolutely love reading everyone’s comments. I think the reason why were first here is Zenyatta and my goodness and if anyone reads here should know how much we love her. I see Zenyatta as just being a happy carefree expectant mom right now and I rejoice in that. If I don’t say something about her everyday I am usually envisioning her in the field just enjoying her days.
I remember so affectionately Dottie sharing the picture of her Dog with us and Ann’s. So loved that. I sure wish Ann would post more often. And sure would love to hear from Dottie. Loved getting to see the pic of Ziconic’s Cat in Florida and the Cat at Lane’s End.
I’m really going to get off topic now but one of the girls I work with is going to get a new Dog in about 2 weeks when they told me what kindhe was I had not heard of the breed told them I had to look the breed up. They showed him to me immediately OMG, how beautiful. The Great Pyrenees. She’s getting a white one. A Girl. She’s going to be able to get her at 12 weeks old. Can’t wait till I can see her in person.
So guess I just wanted to say this I think is all just about love. For all the animals. And , I believe this site is about that. If it is not, guess i’m in the wrong place. Don’t think I am though.
Love Ya Zenyatta, Coz, Ziconic, Little Princess Z. All of Team Z

AP may have the count but the live foal production will be key.
Why are we talking about, AP? Because of what you said….he made History!
Heck, I remember folks talkin’ about a skunk at one point. Ha!

Well said, Janie and Sheena!
When the Zenny’s diary was being posted, she spoke of lots of things and would certainly be interested in AP, as well as other beings, sports and current events, too.
My question is “why wouldn’t we be talking about American Pharoah?” It has been 37 years in the making. Most everyone is pleased and delighted.
Cheers and Hugs to Zenny, Team Z, LE, and all Z’sters!
Sophia Gates
Question about American Pharoah and other Thoroughbred studs – don’t they test for sperm count etc before they buy such a horse?
I guess with actual viability there’s no way to test before the fact, so to speak – but they must have SOME idea if he’s fertile, right?
Tizgood
They don’t test for fertility until they test breed mares when they go to stud.
Tizgood
When they buy a horse they look for a racing prospect only.
shirleeinindy
They purchase and insurance policy that pays if their Stud Is A Dud. Boy, did we have fun at work with that one!
Sophia Gates
Thank you Tizgood, shirleeindy!
Well here’s hoping they won’t need the Stud is A Dud insurance:):):)
It would be nice to see some little Pharoahs!

why aren’t Zenyattas 2 boys not racing? Coz will be 4 and Ziconic will be 3
