Happy Wednesday!

November has been quite the month for Team Z. We’ve been busy finalizing the Celebration results, stuffing envelopes, and planning a product launch for the Shop just in time for the holidays (hint, hint).

We’re proud to announce that the first ever Zenyatta.com Celebration raised over $10,000 for Thoroughbred Rehab Center, Inc. We couldn’t be happier with Zenyatta’s fans that contributed by purchasing the event’s signature Celebration Sticker or by bidding in our online auction. All of the stickers were mailed yesterday, and auction items will be shipped by end of the week. Look for yours soon!

As we previously mentioned, we decided to pick five winners for our Grand Prize, An Invitation to Meet Zenyatta. A complete list of winners is below.

    Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The early part of the 21st century in American thoroughbred racing will probably be remembered as the era of the filly and mare.
    Since 2008, female thoroughbreds have been the featured horses in racing.
    Coming into 2013, three ladies have been named Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta and Havre de Grace, over the last five seasons.
    This week one of the excellent female runners of the last three years retired from racing to begin her career in the breeding barn.
    Royal Delta, two-time winner of the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, now known as the Distaff, hung up her saddle and entered the breeding barn in Florida.

      Vicki: Thank you for your hilarious post – all I can say is: Where have these books been all this time?!? Also, there is an Eat A Bug Cookbook (Revised). Anybody read the first printing?         Rosemary, Judy B., and Ann in NC, you are all welcome, I’m just glad you enjoyed “the list”. I also wonder where these books have been, all the years we didn’t even know such gems existed! I also hope our Grand Poobah, T.C., catches them, maybe over the holidays later in the week.

        My Z sticker arrived today in the mail. I read on the shop that it “Does not leave adhesive residue on surface when removed. 1-5 years durability.” So I’ll have to see how it does in the weather. Or else tack it to the inside of the glass, I’m not sure yet.

        Yes so happy for her. TVG had to sign off right after the race. The lights were still blinking for the official winner. I thought Oh No. But I really thought she had it won
        Had to stay up for that one. So worth it, although I overslept this morning. Almost late for Church. I did make it though.

        Can you tell, I have forgiven her for beating my boy Orfevre.

        I bet he doesn’t want to tangle with this filly anymore.

        Great Great race just loved it.

        • Peggy. Glad that you are happy. They say that she will run again next year. Maybe the Arc? She has a great nose for winning the Japan Cup. Gold Ship looked like he was not too happy with the race. Next time.

    November 24 Cherokee Devotional

    When life becomes skewed and everything points to failure, stop right there and refuse to take in what is seen and sensed. Refuse to listen to talk that is down and out.       Thank you so much for that. What a wonderful pair and how long must it have taken to work with Scout to get that show. It is amazing how some can communicate with a horse with apparently so few signals – are the words the trick? or hand signals? Amazing!

      Wonderful video – thanks Max!! So amazing to see them running like that. BTW, Mum says that Hovis wasn’t invited because they were afraid that his dad could have been a thoroughbred, and they didn’t want to give him an unfair advantage. In any case, I think his nose will be out of joint for quite some time.

        • One of the best Irish race horses of all time. He won the Derby by 10 lengths. If you google his photo, there is some resemblance in the face. Shergar had a distinctive blaze and a noble profile.

        • Shergar’s story has an awful end…..he was kidnapped…and supposedly killed….but he did have that blaze

        • Well no WONDER Hovis thinks that Shergar is his father (being Irish and everything – not to mention the blaze)!!!! So sorry to hear about his unhappy ending though :-(

      Thanks, Max. They are beautiful. One of my favorite actors, Martine Clune was there to present awards, he stars in the series, Doc Martin and is a huge supporter of the breed.

      Sheena. I think that Hovis would do well in those races. He’s getting practice.

      What is going on about Moosie’s stablemate, Master of Sea? Has something happened to him?
      Moose is asking why there are prints of Frankel for sale and not of him. Why indeed.

    Janet, thank-you so much for sharing this video; I enjoyed it so much. It’s always nice when site members share something so nice with the rest of us, that we might never have seen otherwise. What a wonderful relationship those two share, and I’m sure a lot of time and patience went into this routine!

      Sheena. Just learned that Sam was second on Shiryl in the Clydesdale race. I wonder if Moosie knows? Sam is usually Moosie’s PR guy. Those horses ran a very good race, and they were all well behaved, unlike a certain chestnut.

    I’m sorry, once I was able to post a video, but forgot how. Believe me, it is worth looking up. She was only 9 years old when she won this competition; the announcers were enjoying it so much, they stopped talking, and the whole stadium got into it like a rock concert. The very next year, she slipped off a trailer, while being unloaded, and was unable to perform anymore without going lame. They retired her, with plans to breed her in the spring. Unfortunately, she broke her leg in a paddock accident in 2009 (a passersby saw her struggling) it was impossible to save her, and they had to put her down. She spent the last six months of her life, just being a horse. There are many tributes in song to her. The video that I am talking about, is the most watched dressage video. It’s worth looking up! It is on youtube, called Andreas Helgstrand WEG 2006 Freestyle Final Blue Hors Matinee. It is a riot watching her keep time with her tail; she was called the dancing mare.

      Googled and found it. She certainly enjoyed her routine.

      Went on and read a little more on her and found Blue Hors Mantine’ would be injured and despite attempts to get her back in form, they retired her. In 2010 she had a paddock accident and they had to euthanize her.
      Makes watching her performance bittersweet, but I can watch this over and over.

        What a treat to watch this exsquisite mare go thru her paces! Dressage is absolutely my favorite discipline……..so extremely difficult for horse and rider. How terrible this mare was lost in such a horrible manner. RIP beautiful girl.
