dear ann it’s getting so exciting over here for frankels last race he’s had his last piece of work and sir henry is so pleased with him it will be a very emotional day for him too given his poor healthalso his deep love for the horse Ipray it all goes well on saturdayhe will equal Z’s 9 grade one victories I doubt we’ll see another like him not in my lifetime anyway love to moose and goose musn’t forget their big day on saturday as well!!hugs sheena
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Sheena,
Frankel is soo very special, not sure he is going to be able to replicate himself?
Sir Henry said today he is not sure he will like soft or heavy going due to his
leg action and acceleration. Best of luck to him, it is going to be his toughest
race, horses have been avoiding him and now they are challenging him.
Love his colors on the Queen’s cavlary, a very special honor.
Kathy R.
Sheena: Very best thoughts to Frankel and his trainer – loved the tribute from the Household Cavalry! And to Ann, goodluck to Moose and Goose! Cheers.
Ann NC
Hi Sheena,Sign,Kathy R,
The girls are settled in and now for tomorrow! Thanks for the love. I just hope Big Bertha does not stir the trouble pot,she has been a mess…no manners! Ha! Moose and Goose are soaking in all of the activities, they are udderly divine!
It will be a big day tomorrow and so proud of Frankel. Glad Sir Henry has had a great horse, like Frankel to train. What a team they make! Great love and respect there.
OK,I’ll check back Sunday with results…I am off to the fair grounds!
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Ann NC,
Best of luck with your band of bovines at the fair. Look forward to your post on Sunday. So glad Sir Henry had Frankel to help him through his battle as Frankel is one very tough, boisterous, opinionated horse.
Looking forward to tomorrow, hope he is not scratched.
Kathy R.
Dear Ann NC, Sign and Sheena: What a weekend! Very best thoughts to Moose and Goose, Frankel and all the horses competing in the Caulfield Cup weekend here. Am really hoping for Americain, but it’s going to be tough. Will have to give it a bit more thought before the first race starts at 11.30 am our time. Go Moose, Goose and Frankel!!

Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
Love, love,LOVE the wonderful new photo of Ann and Zenny!!! I think that may be the most beautiful photo of her face that I have ever seen!! You can just see the love shining out of her eyes!!
Also loved the photos and video of the “other” Queen’s Cavalry riding out in Frankel’s colors–what an incredible honor—-WOW!! On my first trip to England,I visited friends in Dorset. The gentleman who lived there had BEEN in the Household Cavalry in his younger years!
So hope all goes well for precious Frankel this weekend. The main thing is that he stays safe!! It will be so thrilling though if he wins again!!
@ Marshall-Hope all went well for Reilly today! Shelter animals are just the best! My “kitten”,as I call her, though she is seven now,Star, came from the shelter just two days after having her left front leg amputated and her spaying operation done at the same time!! She is the spunkiest little dickens you’ve ever seen–bosses the other 3 cats around and just generally runs the house!!She is so sweet and sleeps with me every night. I may have mentioned before that sometimes she wants to sleep UNDER the covers! She loves to watch TV and as I leave for work in the morning ,she is usually lying at the foot of the bed doing just that!
@ Sign-I think you mentioned the other day an experience when you almost hit a jumping standard once—I had a crazy thing happen when I was learning to jump,in my early 50’s,on my sweet Lucky,a lovely OTTB,marked much like my Barnaby, though he was chesnut, not light dun, I was working him over some cavaletti’s which had been placed diagonally out from a corner of the arena up at the Sun Valley Resort. I came around the corner, intending to jump them again. However,i didn’t take the corner sharply enough so,as I came around,I was headed straight ahead toward the dreaded “brick wall jump”-actually,of course, made of brightly painted plywood, having tall standards at the sides, also painted to look like bricks, capped with heavy wood shake peaks!! Can’t remember how high it was set, probably 2’6,but I had NEVER been over it and it was the “scary” one for all! Since I had not made the double back turn sharply enough,Lucky assumed I wanted to go over it and charged fiorward. About that time,I figured “oh well, here we go”,but,he must have picked up on my nervousness and decided I really didn’t want to jump it after all. Therefore,at the last second he wnt around it!! His sharp turn, threw me out to the right and I hit the big standard dead center–toppling the whole thing and landing on the ground in a heap of jump sections!! He stopped at once, coming right back as if to say (as he always did, anytime I went over a jump without him!) what’s wrong Mom?? My riding instructor came flying over ,thinking I was proably dead or injured, but I sat up,laughing at how funny I must have looked!! I was lucky I didn’t get hurt, but I have always laughed about the whole thing. I have had some hilarious jumping experiences for sure.
Traveller seems to be being helped by the Bute and has let Sue saddle her several times. She just briefly walks her though and we’re watching her closely. I funny thing happened day before yesterday–we had some rain for the first time in quite awhile and Sue called me top tell me that she had given them their morning feeding in the loafing sheds, which are joined together, though separated by a fence into two smaller pastures. We keep all the fences open so they can each go back and forth, wherever they want to,within the big all-encompassing pasture. Since the weather was looking “iffy”,I decided to feed them in the sheds again so they wouldn’t have wet hay,if it rained again. As soon as I went into the pasture with the wheelbarrow,Barnaby,of course, was at my heels. I put the first few flakes of hay in the first shed, then headed for the other one. Instead of Barnaby’s stopping to eat the first hay I dropped,he decided to follow me to the second shed, where I thought he would then eat his dinner. He was standing right beside me as I emptied the wheelbarrow. All of a sudden I heard a commotion behind me,then, thundering hoofbeats! I spun around in time to see him round the bend of the small pasture, charging in to the other enclosure to chase Traveller away from the other hay!!! I guess he didn’t want her to eat ANY until he had decided which pile was HIS!! He IS a character,no doubt about it!!

Dear Keta:
Thanks for this link to the HDG video. It makes me sad that her connections couldn’t just keep her and give her a good forever home. I’m sure they have their reasons for putting her up for sale. But when I see a gorgeous horse like this, 20011 HOY, who ran her absolute best every time; giving her all and earning a lot of money for her connections, I always wish some of the earnings could have been put aside to take care of her when her racing career ended. Praying she finds a buyer in the States and remains here as a broodmare. Hugs, JB

Thanks for your kind words. The NC Vet School is Great!
Yes, we certainly will miss Mr. Bill Friday — incredibly wonderful man!
They don’t come any better, and they don’t make’em like that anymore.
Best wishes for Moose and Goose tomorrow! I don’t think I will get to the fair this year unless I go for a little while early Sunday AM. When the crowd gets to be too much, I like to find respite at the Hunt Horse Complex. It’s my favorite place to be. Friends of mine have daughters who used to ride in the 4-H horse shows there. The girls are 20 and 22 now, and I sure do miss those days at the Complex!
Take care and good luck!

Sheena. Thanks for this. We will await Clive’s decision. I will always remember how thrilling that it was when I watched Kauto win last Boxing Day. Any news of Master Minded? Kauto did so love to torment him in practice.
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the update on Kauto, will wait to hear more from you about him.
Nothing in the news that I can find. Maybe his body is too weary, he has been
such a champion for sooo long??? His owner and trainer will definately do right by
him as they definately don’t want an big accident. Maybe you could get him to train and ride Sheena !!!!! Wouldn’t that be fun, bet he would be a handful as he still acts like
a “young boy” like a good TB.
Janet Newman
Dear Keta,
Thanks for the video post on Havre de Grace.
She is a beauty and resembles her sire St. Liam.
I heard the Japanese are very interested in getting her
and I am concerned she will leave this country and we
will never see or hear about her again. We are so lucky
to have the privilege of this site to keep in touch with our beloved Z.
Keta
Janet,
Whether it is Japan or Coolmore or Sheikh, we will not have the same follow up
after the sale. Good example is Coolmore’s handing of Rags to Riches. It is almost impossible to find information on her or her foals.
Big Red Farm has done a good job of promoting I’ll Have Another.
But, do not know if another farm will do this for HDG.
So, now we will see what happens at the Sale.
Hoped a buyer would come forward and buy before then.
The video is so well done & really is a bio of Havre De Grace.
Hugs, Keta
Barbara Wood (Texas)
We were AT Coolmore soon after Rags went there, and not one word was mentioned about her. She could have been any one of the various mares in the pasture.
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Keta and Janet,
I was soo sad when I watched that video. Such a very beautiful mare and up for sale.
She should be cherished by someone and I sure hope someone steps up the to plate.
I am also concerned it will be the Japanese as she is an outcross being St. Liam’s daughter, he never got to develop “his breeding line”.

Sheena. I spent four years in England and it seemed to rain every day. It got to the point where I now love rain, fog too. I hope that it all works out well for Frankel.
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Sheena,
Below are some comments by US talking heads about Frankel’s possible scratch,
they feel he should face his foe, just like Zenny, Secretariat, Man O War, Seattle Slew and other greats who met adversity and became even more well respected in defeat.
Zenny’s BCC 2010 will always be recognized as her very very best effort made in defeat.
Her BCC 2009 was an obvious win over the boys with not much effort.
I sure hope they let him face his challengers !!!
sheena.davies(wales)
dear max you would have really loved this summer and early autumn nothing but rain rain and more rain did’nt know you spent sometime in england which part of the country were you based?hugs sheena

Shena. I was in Oxford. The lasting side effect of an English education is a love of rain. I also have at least 20 umbrellas, most of which were made in the UK.
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Dear Sue Noel; I have missed just about a week here. I absolutely loved your stories!! Thank goodness your bones were younger back during that jumping incident.
Barnaby is so loveable. I can relate to your feeding story.
Now volunteering for a horse sanctuary we have tried various methods of feeding because this beautiful 16.1 or.2 still needs to put weight on. We now feed inside each stall a couple flakes each after their grain. After a half hour we open each door so for their freedom. Golly, in a few minutes we have Fancy going into Frito’s stall, Jo going into Sirs stall, Frito going into Fancys and Sir generallly stays out. He was the last horse to come there. It is a circus for a bit of time! haha
Now, we are trying 1 flake in each stall and 3 flakes in the outside feeder which we brought back out thinking 2-3 can feed at once. I still drop some hay off to one side on the concrete slab for Sir. Little Jo, who is a hackney pony, is the one that chases big Sir away!! Eventually if the others go out to pasture, Sir will hang around and visit each stall for the hay; all generally but Jo’s. I sure love watching all of this.
Thank you, I just looked at Ann and Zenny’s new photo. My heart overfloweth!!!!! love it.
Please write us more of your stories.
