I liked this article in today’s L.A. Times, makes you think. “Doug O’Neill earns respect, even if some won’t give it to him” – http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-simers-20121017,0,4076931,full.column

Really nice article, Vicki B.
It is sad that when things get around that may not be true
and they can really color a person’s view of another,
when they really are not true.
Thanks for sharing.

I like his enthusiasm and his caring nature for those needing support.
He certainly has given us a lot to smile about.

Hello, Z’sters!
Please keep good thoughts for a 12 year old Lab mix who has a heart murmur and will be evaluated Thursday. He is my “baby dog”, Reilly. He is still quite energetic and is definitely a “foodie”. I pray that he will not suffer any further heart problem such as congestive heart failure, etc. Reilly is the smartest dog I have ever had and very sweet, too. He is a shy shelter dog who had the courage to pick me in spite of having bad experiences with humans in his first few months.
His adopted brother, Huey, and I think he is the greatest!
Love to Zenny, 12Z and their connections!
Thanks and hugs to all!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
We keep your Reilly in my prayers. Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy,
Thank you so much — Reilly sends licks and woofs, also.
Your hugs make us all feel better!
Bunches of hugs back to you, too!

Reilly made a very good choice when he picked you. Hugs, JB
Linda E (Ohio)
I very seldom reply to comments…while taking my dog, Buddy, for a walk today, I couldn’t stop thinking about Reilly. I hope your fur baby feels better. Anyone who has been blessed enough to be loved by a dog so understands. I too have a shy shelter dog who has endured 2 acl surgeries and diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Each day I am so thankful fate intervened and gave me this special boy. He is my everything. Please give Reilly a hug for me. And Buddy says a treat from him!
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Linda E. and Buddy,
Thank you so much for your post. You have expressed my feelings exactly. My other dog, Huey, had knee surgery last year and is doing quite well now; although, the other knee has arthritis now and may need a fix eventually, too. Hope Buddy is doing okay, and PLEASE give him a hug from me and a WOOF from Reilly & Huey.
All the best for lots of dog years to come!

Dearest Marshall, thinking positive for Reilly, and sending you hugZ. I hope you and Reilly will get a good report. Love in Dumplinghood, Trina
Marshall (NC broad)
To All you Wonderfully dear people of Zennyland,
I am truly overwhelmed and so grateful for all your kind wishes, prayers and positive thoughts for Reilly. His heart murmur is not a moderate one, but his blood work is pretty normal and he is in good shape. The plan is to give him medicine to help stabilize his condition. This should help his heart pump more efficiently and lessen the strain. The NC Veterinary School is very good and the doctor was very upbeat. Reilly’s heart is somewhat enlarged on the left side — it is a mitral valve leak. We will be re-evaluated in 5-6 months. In the meantime, my regular vet will keep tabs on his condition. I do so hope that he continues to feel well.
THANKS TO ALL and that includes Trina, Sue Colvin, Louise Castello, Sue Noel, Linda E., Carol in Utah, Ann NC, Kathy R., Sheena D., Janet Newman, Signofthetimes, Barbara Wood, Maryp ny, and Judy Berube. I think I have everybody here, but if not, I apologize. I will check over things again. I do appreciate every one of you so much. Wags, licks, and woofs!
I have loved hearing about Buddy, Charlie, General, Star and all your four-footed children — they’re the BEST! Good health to them all!
Best Wishes and hugs!

A Birthday Poem for Rod from Paramount
(October 17, 2012)
We’re glad to say
The encounter had by your Anne
With the lively Lava Man
This past Gold Cup Day
When we bid farewell to I’ll Have Another
Didn’t leave her with any bruise,
Because , oh, brother,
Lava Man did unexpectedly choose
To swing Anne around–
She suddenly found
Her feet clear off the ground,
And then she came down
Some ten feet away–oy, veh!
But it seemed Anne just to amuse!
Then last summer
Sadly you and Anne
Didn’t get to go–
What a bummer!—
On our trip to see that gorgeous gray,
The valiant Giacomo,
The Mosses’ Kentucky Derby winner,
Nor could you with us there in Santa Ynez partake
Of a delicious Italian dinner.
This trip you unfortunately had to forego,
But ’twas in order to take
Your splendid Alaskan cruise—
We hope it chased away
All those work-a-day blues!
Your cruise
To southeastern Alaska you took.
There you visited Skagway,
Famed gateway
To the vast Yukon
When the Klondike Gold Rush was on
And a setting for Call of the Wild
By Jack London,
Surely a favorite book
Of Rod’s since he was a child.
Rod marveled along the way
At the glaciers in Glacier Bay
As the ship onward did go
To historic Juneau,
Which, at sea level,
Sits below
Mountains nearly a mile high
Over which some thirty glaciers flow.
Then nearby
Came Ketchikan
And the thousand Misty Fjords,
Which glaciers did so sharply bevel—
Oh, what sights to be seen!
On shipboard
There was also cuisine
Which offered Rod and his dear Anne
Many a delight,
Especially that night
When the Chef’s Table
In them struck a resonant chord,
For they were able
As if in a fable
A ten-course meal to ingest
As the chef’s special guests.
He, an artist in his own right
Like Rembrandt in his atelier,
For them did prepare
Exquisite fare,
Quite beyond compare,
And then the meal with them did share,
As did the maître d’
And the sommelier—
It’s fair to say
It did Rod and Anne immensely please
That these three
Willingly with them did share their expertise,
And the tasty dishes
More than fulfilled their wishes.
Never did they more finely dine!
Rod and Anne returned from their cruise
In that northern clime
In good time
The Zenyatta unveiling
At Santa Anita to attend
And received the good news
That their Rightful Image
No longer seems to be ailing,
So they take heart
And hope to soon hear
That he may again start
At Hollywood Park.
We our voices to theirs will lend
For Rightful to cheer.
And Rod, we hope today
For you will be the start
Of a very good year!
For you, dear Rod, we say
Hoof, hoof, hoof-ray!
Have a happy birthday!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Where was that personal 10-course dinner when we were in Alaska?? LOL! Thank you Trina. I’m learning so much about fellow Dumplings.

VERY CUTE COMMENT BY CIRRUS’S TRAINER; HE SPY’S ON THE OTHER HORSES AND TELLS HER !!!
“He’s very playful,” she explained. “He knows a lot. He tells me what the other horses are doing. He’s my spy. He’s like no other horse.”
On Saturday, her best friend meets the best horse in the world.
“Finally he’s coming to defend his title. We go to his [Frankel’s] place. It’s a great challenge. Whatever the result it will be a great experience. I was at Ascot last year when Frankel won — he is an extraterrestrial, but he’s never met a horse like Cirrus. If we win I may not be popular but I’d be proud and very happy. I would not be so surprised.””

Lots of catching up to do today:
Belated Happy Birthday to Rod – hope to meet you at the BC (and another epic, informative poem from Trina!!)
Karen Gogue – THANK YOU SO MUCH for the wonderful video. It truly was almost like being there. The “live feed” was great as far as it went, but the camera was so far out that it was hard to hear or see anything up close. I tried to record some video from my computer screen (which I now have NO idea how to process) so I can dump that and watch yours :-).
Marshall – sending positive thoughts and prayers for your dog Reilly. I will echo Judy B’s comment that he knew what he was doing when he picked you. My first cat survived for years with a serious heart problem that was controlled with medication (and just think how MUCH easier it is to con a dog into taking something than a cat :-)
Hugs to you and your babies

We had a couple of his fillies come over for sale this year. Can’t wait to see their
progeny. I imagine breeding them with a US proven dirt winner/stallion would produces some wonderful offspring. We also have Cape Blanco as one of Galileo’s son’s as well,
just had his first year at stud in 2012.

A Birthday Poem for Deborah Richman 2012
(October 18, 2012)
Our dear Deborah
Since high school days
Has had the nickname Smidge.
She now lives in Northridge
With her beloved kitty Widge.
I bet her two daughters
Will call her.
One has become a lawyer,
And she’s the one who brought her
From back in college days
The lovely little Widge.
Sad to say,
Widge had been a homeless stray
Hanging around
In the bushes
Till she was by coeds found
And by them taken in
One fine morn’,
Though that was totally agin’
The rules of their dorm,
Which in no shape or form
Did pets abide,
And the girls risked perhaps
Figurative slaps
On their tushes.
They the kitty had to hide,
And they managed for a good long while
Her to conceal.
She made them smile
As she over their beds would scamper,
Though the need for secrecy them all did hamper.
The girls developed quite an ardor
For the feline
So fine
That they did successfully harbor.
But there was always fear
Of the day
When kitty might be taken away—
She needed a forever home in which to stay.
When her daughter this need to Deborah
Did convey,
Deborah did say
(Hurrah!),
“Sure, bring her here–
I’ll make her mine!”
And that’s how little Widge
Came to live with our dear Smidge.
The other daughter, not to be outdone,
Also did the family augment:
She did marry
And then not long did tarry
Deborah to present
With a darling grandson!
Now this bouncing baby boy
Brings our dear Smidge
Endless joy
And wide grins.
We’ve been told
Little Keith tomorrow will be
Just one year old,
And if I may be so bold
I bet many pics of him
You could see
Decorating the fridge
Of our dear Smidge!
’Twas also just a year ago
On Fan Appreciation Day,
I’m happy to say,
That Deborah from Zenyatta
Got a
Personal birthday greeting
On the Diary–
Wow, that’s a fact worth repeating–
Yes, she got a personal greeting
That thrilled her heart so!
Dearest Deborah, midst all these boons,
We hope that soon
We you will again
At the races be meeting.
We hope especially
You to see
At the BC—
Till then,
We wish you the happiest birthday,
And we all say,
Hurrah for our dear Deborah!
Happy birthday, Deborah, and many, many happy returns!

Thank you for this! Isn’t she a beautiful girl? Wow! She is such a girly, girl! How do they get her coat so gorgeous and shiny? Can’t wait to see her run!

Dear Karen G,
Love this video, she is one very beautiful girl, looks a lot like her daddy, Bernardini,
except for those “signature ears”. She is very slender and lean, not as muscled as Zenny. Street Cry must be more muscled than Bernie.
Lovely Lovely Lovely video. Thanks so much for posting.

Dear Karen:
Thanks so much for sharing your video of Ebby. She is so beautiful; think she really favors he Daddy, Bernardini. Hugs, JB
