Ann: The pressure is starting to build up over here – we’ve just had the barrier draw for the Cox Plate (to be run Saturday) and there is some controversy over the decision by trainer Gai Waterhouse to select barrier 11 for More Joyous and not an inside gate. Her owner (John Singleton) has gone public to say that if it wasn’t the Cox Plate, he’d scratch the horse and sack the trainer. John does goe a bit wild though and is known to shout the bar if one of his horses wins a major race. So we shall just have to wait and see who is the better judge on this matter. Sent you a message regarding Moose and Goose further up – I reckon they’re the only entrants that had an international fan club. Hugs KathyR.

sheena.davies(wales)
dea r sign news that BC’s 1st date when she retires will be with frankel according to part owner neil werrett a few conditions would have to be worked out travelling I suppose maybe she could stay at banstead manor while she was over here they should produce a very fast foal!!hugs sheena
Kathy R.
Dear Sheena: I left a piece about this possible pairing a bit further up. It was reported a few days ago here. I was not surprised because the Caviar connections were not at Caulfield, but attending the pre-Frankel last race dinner. These connections are no Ann and Jerry Moss, but very hard-headed regarding the future of the mare. But we still have a way to go to see if she races again, and they may change their minds about sending her overseas for a first mating. Must say, don’t know why they didn’t leave her there after Ascot – the talk was out then about Frankel winding down, and it has always seemed stupid to me that they didn’t let her retire with nothing more to prove, and then take their time to select a brilliant first partner. But we’ll just have to wait and see. Cheers!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Dear Sheena and Kathy R,
Frankel may not be a stud, if he dosen’t leave
His box, the one he grew up in unless Sir Henry
Builds a shed for him, ha ha ha !!!
Kathy R.
Sign: people need to remember that this is not a “confirmation” that the pairing will take place – just the musings of the majority owner. I’ve commented below to Keta that I think it would be interesting to see if the connections would ship Nelly overseas if she suffered an injury in her return to the track (like has occurred with Mosheen) – or if they would decide to look for a suitable mate here in Australia. I’ve said before (and I don’t mean to sound harsh) that these connections are not shy of publicity. Cheers.
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Kathy R,
Oh yes, I did see your comment above and you are right should she
have an injury or some other health problem, would create other issues. Oh yes, also recognize that it is just “talk” as it is not really clear now if she will even run next year. I was commenting in general that it is done. Australia is much farther than Europe, however. Interesting comment about her owner’s. It is always fun to speculate.
They may not be able to get Frankel out of his box to breed any one !!!
HA HA HA !!!
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Kathy R,
Sad about Mosheen. We had a similar filly/mare, It’s Tricky just retire for Godolphin with an early fracture of hind ankle. She has a really bad start out of the gate, tipped and fell forward on her knees, she rallied to be very cometative in the race. It seems that she most likely injured her rear leg at that time and then with training it just progressed.
Racing is sooo hard on their bodies and US is not know for a good stamina build, but with Lonhro, Cape Blanco and so outside influence this might change.

Black Caviar lined up as a possible first date for £100m Frankel at Banstead Manor Stud
Frankel has been shortlisted as a possible first date for Australia’s unbeaten mare Black Caviar.
By Telegraph Sport
8:25AM BST 23 Oct 2012
The two highest-rated horses in the world last season could meet in the breeding sheds once time is called on the racing career of the Peter Moody-trained six-year-old.
Frankel signed off at Ascot on Saturday with an unblemished 14-win record, whereas Black Caviar is unbeaten in 22 starts.
He now heads for Banstead Manor Stud in Suffolk valued at £100 million, a record for a thoroughbred, based on the number of breeders willing to pay an estimated £100,000 each to fix up assignations with the undefeated world champion of racing.
“We would consider going to Frankel because he is clearly the best distance horse in the world,” Black Caviar’s co-owner, Neil Werrett, told The Age.
“There would have to be a few conditions that would have to be worked out to make it happen, but the two best horses in the world together – that would be something.
“I might be a little biased, but I would say he is the second best horse I have ever seen.”
Frankel’s trainer, Sir Henry Cecil, said after his four-year-old had won the £1.3 million Qipco Champion Stakes in front of the Queen and a sold-out crowd of 32,000: “I can’t believe that in the history of racing there has ever been a better racehorse.”
Frankel’s retirement now leaves a void on the flat that owners and trainers will struggle to fill.
The best horse in modern history is offcially the 1986 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Dancing Brave, but the mathematical calculation behind that ranking is insignificant when one considers the brilliance of Frankel’s victories and his unbeaten record

Now we have confirmation from London
Keta
Kathy R.
Dear Keta: Just a thought – wonder what the Nelly connections would do if she were injured (like Mosheen) in her “last” race over here? Would be interesting to see if they would still ship her over for a date, or cut their losses and look for an option here in Australia?
Keta
Kathy R
That is an interesting & sad speculation.
Hopefully, BC will leave the track in good health.
There are so many problems to be solved in making this mating happen.
Just think of her having to go through all the quarantine process again.
That is not the best way to start a sucessful pregancy.
So, we have two great horses oceans apart–one who loves the comfort of his home farm & box. Lots of travel involved. Quarantine.
I know these are not insurmountable, but they do look like big obstacles.
It is lovely to dream about the foal they would produce.

Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Reilly seems to be doing well on the medicine. At first, he was a bit lethargic, but that was listed as a possible side effect when starting on the drug. Yesterday and today, he acts like the old Reilly.
Hope he continues to feel good. He has his usual appetite which is always in the “food mode”. He and Huey seem to be enjoying the pursuit of moles/voles in the backyard. Several parts of the backyard are undergoing “renovation” which has given me a little less grass to mow.
Thanks for the interest in my “baby dog”!

I had the strangest dream last night. I dreamed about myself dreaming, and when I “woke up” from that dream, it turns out I had slept through Breeders’ Cup and the Zenyatta party. I was so confused! I thought about it in class, and I couldn’t figure out why I had that dream. Only ten days left! Que COUNTDOWN!
Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
@Eveline in MD–OK, I was trying to spare all the details–cats had litter box–I did not–had to “tinkle” in a makeshift bedpan and pass it out the window at rest stops—I warned you–TMI!!! Luckily,I have a really nice daughter!!
Most of the cats just huddled down and zoned out for the trip–some of them didn’t even eat or drink.Several cried off and on–one meowed loudly ,getting more and more hoarse, until his lost his voice entirely!! Still was trying to meow! About 100 miles from here, one of them finally just lost it and used my legs for a cat box!! He was so sick of the whole thing and that was the only thing he could think of to let me know how angry he was—his name was Orson–yes, after Orson Welles! He was a short-haired black and white Manx–portly, and with attitude–just like the real Orson Welles!!
A few miles after that,Sam,my siamese cat,got upset and attacked the back of my head!! Needless to say,I was glad to get here!! Luckily,I had rented a house ahead of time, over the phone,so I drove directly there and started unloading cats. I had told the landlady I had “several” cats and she never really knew in the year and a half I lived there, just how many “several” was. I rescued several more and by the time I bought a place, I had 42!! My friend Nicki, the one who is Peggy Lee’s daughter, used to love to suddenly stamp on my floor and start a “cat stampede!” Now,when I tell people I have 4 cats and they think that is a lot,I think back to those days and think–“if you only knew!!”
@ Ann- Glad Moose and Goose had fun–I’ll bet they were beautiful!
Fun to think about Frankel/Black Caviar baby–THAT one would bear watching!!
Dana said last night when I talked to her that our tickets are there–WHEW!! Pati, did yours come yet?? Can’t believe that I fly out this Saturday!!! Have been meaning to ask–what time should we arrive at Santa Anita on Friday?? Don’t want to miss anything!! Have not been to Santa Anita since the 50’s–don’t know how it all works now!! Thanks for ant info available!!
Sweet dreams of the BC all–Love and Hugs!
Pati- Gradually losing sleep from the pacing!!
Yep! They are here, and they look awesome!!!

Thanks for the funniest stuff and thanks for taking all your pets with you. It’s good to know that a promise is still a promise.
After promising my mother before she died that I would take care of her two girls, siamese, I found myself in the bathroom of the plane taking us home with the older one who had come unglued and howled on the top of her lungs the entire trip. Her brother, who was my cat & her sister were in a larger crate below, so was my dog of 14yrs, then. She was to travel in an airline issued sturdy cardboard box, which of course wasn’t used much during our taking siege of the plane’s bathroom. It took her two seconds to slash her way through the box and shredding the rest with her teeth in hellish fury. Howling she climbed up my leg all the way to my shoulder while we were waiting in line for processing, thankfully the crate with her sibs was right at my other leg, so I wrestled her off my shoulder which she did not give up easily, and added her to the cat pack. It was sthg. Even though I still keep company with several cats, I still miss those guys. Hope you have a real good time at the breeders

Keta: Agree with you regarding not a good way to start a first pregnancy – don’t think the quarantine is such a big issue when the horse is coming from Australia to Europe though. But (and I know it’s not the same situation if she was going for a mating) Nelly does not travel very well – we might have to get Voila Ici to travel back as a companion?! But it’s nice to dream about the wonderful offspring that may result. Even though a lot of people will say that really top mares leave all their energy on the racetrack and fail to pass it on to their foals. Take care KathyR.
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
Dear Keta and Kathy R,
Goldikova was bred to Galilieo in the UK and most likely the Euro “girls” go across
the pond to visit the UK stallions. It would be far for Nelly to go, but the offspring would be “priceless”. I think when they go over to be bred they stay for a few months to make sure the pregnacy is good and mare is ok to travel back. Maybe her groom or someone from Down Under could come and stay with her. She does have that gelding friend she so adored. Nelly bonds very well with other horses and makes friends fast. Traveling to the UK to be bred would perhaps be less stressful than a race???
The best thing about everything is Frankel won’t leave his box, so may be they will have to race him next year !! Maybe he won’t like being a stud either???? God forbid that, though !!!

Kathy R.
Sign: Pierro is trained by our top female (Gai Waterhouse) as are Proisir and More Joyous. The Cox Plate is unusual in that the name of the horse is drawn first, and then the trainer (or connections) can pick a barrier. Gai picked 11 for More Joyous (not the expected 4) and there is now a ruckus going on between the trainer and the owner! Just adds to the excitement at this time of year. Will be interesting to see how Pierro and All too Hard go though. It gets to be very difficult to pick winners at this time of year, and even more so with all the internationals. Cheers.

Dear Kathy R,
Great article; so are the barriers like our metal gates and the post numbers?
Our gates have metal stalls, for lack of a better word, and they the
number 1 is on the rail of the track.
I had all sorts of visions of the horses running around actual barriers,
HA HA HA. Interesting how racing is soo different in each country. I guess
that a horse that can race all over the world is very adaptable, maybe our
US TB is too high strung to be that flexible. We don’t have too many that
really travel well all over our country and very few travel internationally.
It seems only to Dubai World Cup races.

Dear Kathy R and Z fans,
Animal Kingdom is one of Barry Irwin’s (Team Valor ) horses that has a interesting pedigree, his sire is Brazillian (Leroidesanimaux, Leroy) and his dam Dalicia is German.
Unusual with this type of pedigree to win our most coveted race the Kentucky Derby, won it is 2011.
He was cut off by a jockey and horse in the third leg of our triple crown, veered off to the side, clipped heels and came forward almost losing his jockey to rally and come in 6 th place. Her sufferd a fractured left hind leg that was repaired surgically, came back in a turf race, early this year and fractured his pelvis due to issues with the surgical repair, leg length, balance, etc.
He is now ready for his first race at the end year, the Breeders Cup Turf Mile. His trainer is from the UK and has a semi-Euro training style and barn. He has been training the horse galloping up hill at a wonderful training facility, that has a Euro feel to it. Horses go out in paddocks, and can clear their heads galloping among the trees and greenery.

Dear Sheena,
Guess Frankel, loves his “vacation”, munching and relaxing.
It is very difficult for any mare to go to another country to be
bred. Wonder how long Goldi stayed after visiting Galileo ?
So many articles come out in the papers that are hear say
or start things going, but it is fun to play along. So glad Frankie
is popular and going to get a lot of mounts, thought that would
be so for him. Nelly’s new little sis is adorable, she has some very
big shoes to fill. Can’t wait for the Black Caviar special this friday
on HRTV. Any word on Kauto, yet ?
