Happy Thursday!
Team Z is excited about tomorrow’s Zenyatta Celebration, and we hope you are too! Here are a few details and important announcements about the event:
• TVG announcer Frank Mirahmadi will be the emcee of the Party.
• Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg will host the Live Auction.
• We will have a Zenyatta Merchandise Tent set up in the Paddock tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, featuring many new Zenyatta merchandise items.
• Acclaimed equine artists Fred Stone (“Born to Greatness”) and Jaime Corum (“Queen’s Dance” and her newest Zenyatta release, “Breeders’ Cup Gold”) will be signing at the tent thoughout both days beginning at 10:00 am.
• Zenyatta jockey Mike Smith, trainer John Shirreffs, and racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs are also expected to make signing appearances on Friday and Saturday mornings.
Party ticket pick-up:
• Remember, no After-Party tickets were mailed. All are to be picked up on Friday.
• We encourage all Zenyatta After-Party participants to pick up their tickets at the tent beginning 3:00 pm on Friday. This will allow them to avoid the will-call rush at the Frontrunner entrance immediately after the last race.
• After-Party online reservations will close tomorrow, however tickets will remain available at the door, while they last.
See you soon!

Fantastic!! I got home in time to see Rosie Napravnik win on Shanghai Bobby! Great race; am so glad for her and for her mount — Bobby did not give up! The O’Neill trained horse, He’s Had Enough, is a stunningly beautiful horse and was coming on strong. Nothing to be ashamed of there — yay, Mario G.!
How about that Little Mike? What a scrappy guy!! He had an outstanding jockey in Ramon Dominguez, too.
I am now glued to the TV — sorry, Reilly and Huey, your walk will have to wait!
Hope all Dumplings are having a blast!

Dear Marshall:
Shanghai Bobby was my choice too. Congrats to him. Hugs, JB
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
I was at the edge of my seat as if my motions and cheering would bring Shanghia Bobby across the finish first. It worked!!! ha What a race that was.
I was glued to the TV all day-eve. It was the first time sitting that long but worth it. hugs to all Sally

Dear Sally B,
Did you see Shanghai Bobby, “goofing off” after he made the lead.
He started waiting for the other horses to catch up. He is such a baby
in man’s clothing
Great use of the
whip by Rosie, N. Great race and only the second woman besides
Julie Krone to win a BC race. !!!

Dear Marshall:
Little Mike proved he’s for real. Scrappy little guy, indeed. Hugs, JB

JudyB. Little Mike was just amazing in that race. Point of Entry was also great. US horses in first and second dual against some of the best distance horses on turf from Europe. Shows us that we’re doing okay.

How was the Z party? Were there a lot of people there?

What a fabulous run by Fort Larned and MMM. Fort Larned never waivered. Congrats to both. I didn’t wait to see who ran third. Kudos to both of those fantastic runners and their jocks. Great Classic. Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Congrats on your picks! Wise Dan ran a great race and so did Animal Kingdom.
Superb win by Fort Larned, too! Mike and MMM ran a great race, also. Very exciting!!!
Such a nice birthday present for jockey Bryan Hernandez on Fort Larned!
I was so pleased for Trinniberg — he ran an extremely good sprint! That’s where he is comfortable and outstanding.
Thankful that everyone seemed to finish safely. I am a little disappointed for Bob Baffert; he has had such a tough year, but he will bounce back.
Take care!
Hugs to you and Lola Mae
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
I was so hoping Animal Kingdom would have a good race back from his lay off. Wise Dan is just spectacular. I was happy for Trinniberg, Royal Delta and all the others that ran their best and came back safe.
This Classic was very exciting. Kudos to Fort Larned and his jockey and to Mikey and MMM. Our Mikey always in contention. Game on Dude just didn’t run his usual race. Hope he’s OK. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend. Love and Hugs, JB and Lola Mae

Marshall:
Just love Trinniberg, so happy he won! What a gorgeous ride! Had I been somewhere to bet I would have bet Trinni, The Lumber Guy (because of his strange color!) and Smiling Tiger ( I forgot why he was special to me, one of the announcers said something cute or sad about him!) I would have bet $1.00 trifecta box and I would have won like $2,300.00 bucks! Boy am I kicking myself for not going some where to watch and bet! I also had Little Mike picked out and Wise Dan and Animal Kingdom picked out for an exacta box! Next time I will listen to my gut and just go! Maybe next year!
Getting colder in the east hugs!

GirlSaratoga,
Oh no! Too bad you didn’t make that bet! Your gut was right on the mark.
Maybe next time! There were some really good races though and quite a few surprises, too.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Cheers and hugs!

Fort Larned and MMM did a great job and both fought hard hope Game On Dude is alright he didn’t look right out their :)

Hey I hope Game on Dude is Ok too. Didn’t seem his normal self. Weren’t these Great races today. I was so proud of Wise Dan, Animal Kingdom, and Groupie Doll. So many of these races were just great. So proud of Mike Smith too.
I felt so sorry for Shackleford. He looked like he was feeling so great in the post parade. So sorry he stumbled. Sure hope he is OK too.

Dear Peggy N.:
Wonderful BC races today. Mikey was great, as usual. Yes, I feel sorry that Shack had a bad trip. Hope he, Questing and Game On Dude are OK too. Congrats to all the winners and all these beautiful TB’s and jockeys who gave it their very best try. Love and Hugs, JB
AJ from CA
Yes, me too, I really wanted Shack to end his career like the great champ that he is but with that bad stumble at the gate, he never had a chance. He’ll always be one of my faves though. Glad Dale Romans had 1 out of 3 with Little Mike.

Dear Peggy N and AJ,
Shack is NOT RETIRED, yet. HE WILL BE BACK.
CAUGHT A QUARTER. Loved his post parade antics.
so very Shack. Dale Romans said ” He is just letting
us know he is here and ready to go”, when Zoey Cadman
interviewed him. She is at times Shack’s hot walker.

Dear Peggy N and Judy B.
GOD is fine. He broke a 1/2 step short and got “mad” and threw in
the towel with Raphael B took him back. He does not like that at all.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Sign so hope we see Shack race again. Don’t want that to be his last race. Unless, he’s just unable to do it.

Katie and Marshall,
See below comment, GOD is fine.

Fantastic BC and what a thriller in the classic. MMM almost got there.
Congrats to Fort Larned and a very Happy Birthday to his jockey Brian
Hernadez.
Wise Dan with a very good shot at HOY. Would love if
Royal Delta would get the vote, but Wise Dan has performed in stellar
fashion this year.
I think my heart is back to normal now.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Janet, I still don’t think my heart is back to normal yet.
Just loved these races today
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Janet,
Such a very exciting Breeder’s Cup, so very glad for the jockey of Fort Larned,
Marty Hernandez. What a fantastic birthday for him and a commited trainer and
owner to keep him on for the BC.
MMM was awesome and he has another year or two to run, can’t hardley wait to see him
run again.
Mikey and RD, gate to wire, that race really showed her talent. My Miss Aurelia was peddling fast to try and catch her, but two to three strided to RD one. So glad RD will be a back next year. Her owner is very special, when asked about he money he spent to purchase her. He said he purchased a Paso Fino mare with similar credential and she
had a colt that build his breeding operation. His veterinarian told him “that there is only one of her” so he broke the bank. He said he was so glad Frank Strohnak (sp?) did not come back with another bid. Benjamin Leon seems like a very nice man.
Wish he would buy HDG !!!
AJ from CA
Congratulations to all the winners! Although I didn’t make it to SA I really enjoyed watching all the races on TV and thought it was such a great decision to go with Santa Anita this year with the great weather and unlike Churchill Downs last year, all horses came home safe without injury or loss of life. Maybe they should make SA a permanent home for BC?
andrea
Amen! Bright and sunny, all the horses reasonably safe and sound! Thank God, no breakdowns! SA looks like a pretty place, too. I hated “racing under the lights” just dark and chilling to my eye. I am just so glad they are all safe in their stalls!

Great racing the last two days! Many of my favorites finished 2nd but nothing to be ashamed of there in a BC race. Was very proud of AK and Graham Motion.

So glad to hear your daughter has power! HIP HIP HOORAY! I would love to come to the Breeder’s cup next year! Should have gone to the casino today for the Breeder’s cup party and played the last 5 races, would have made about $2,800.00 or so in those races alone! I had Shannghai Bobbi, Little Mike, Trinniburg and The Lumber Guy and Smiling Tiger for a nice trifecta, and then Wise Dan and Animal Kingdom exacta (couldn’t pick between the 2 so exacta is the way i go!) and then Mucho Macho Man probably across the board just to be safe! Then I would have a nice jump start on getting to the breeder’s cup! The plane fare is the killer! (Driving is out of the question! Too bad it’s not in KY that wouldn’t be such a bad flight! Maybe I’ll get lucky at the slots next time I go!

Fort Larned a rarity in today’s bloodlines: no Northern Dancer in his pedigree
Fort Larned battles to Classic victory (I extracted the pedigree info)
The Kentucky-bred colt comes from a prestigious female family as his granddam is dual champion Bayakoa, who just saw her record as the only two-time winner of the Distaff tied on Friday when Royal Delta defended her title in the Ladies’ Classic. Bayakoa captured 13 total Grade/Group 1s while racking up more than $2.7 million during her time on track. The mare was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1998 and is also the granddam of multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Affluent.
Another of Bayakoa’s daughters is Fort Larned’s dam, the Broad Brush mare Arlucea, who strangely enough has the same exact name as Bayakoa’s dam, the Good Manners mare Arlucea. Fort Larned is half-brother to Izarra, placed in the 2007 editions of the Grade 1 Oak Leaf and Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, as well as last year’s Cliff Guilliams Handicap second Moonport.

Wise Dan, For Horse of the Year……………………………..He seems to have just worked his heart out this year. Congratulations to your gorgeous Dad, Wiseman’s Ferry also
Max
Peggy. Wise Dan is yet another handsome chestnut in a year of great chestnut horses. He would be an excellent HOY. He runs superbly on all surfaces.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
Yes I sure hope he gets it. With his being a gelding maybe he will be back also next year. I sure hope so.
Max
Peggy. In the interview after the race, trainer and owner both said that Wise will get a rest before they map out his future. They are “taking it one race at a time.” It sounded positive for another year. I love watching that horse run. He’s wonderful. When he turns it on, he’s just unbeatable.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max, Peggy N. and Z Fans:
Think Wise Dan has a good chance at HOY. This year 6 starts; 5 wins and 1 second. He has proven himself on all surfaces. Also, Royal Delta merits consideration, I think. This year 7 starts; 4 wins and 2 seconds. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
Wise Dan will be back next year, along with Groupie Doll, Royal Delta, Animal Kingdom and most of the winners. No announcements of retirement at this time, even Shackelford is still going to run, maybe later this year or next year.
Poor guy grabbed a quarter !!!
Oh yes, lots of talk about Wise Dan and HOY, even though he has won his best on Turf
he is can run on dirt and synthetic. He set a track record for that race. Also Adian O Brian said Excelebration just did not run his best due to the race two weeks ago.
Just no turn of foot, TIRED !!!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
Lots of talk about Wise Dan running against Frankel as an equal competitor.
That would have been something. Wise Dan has already show that he
can win on the Soft Turf. He has hooves of steel, nothing bothers them.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
This would be a Dream Come True to see Wise Dan and Frankel. But, I would have to add one more horse that would have to go with these two. It’s none other than The Great “Orfevre”
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
Yes, Orfevre would be a great one in that mix. Love his quirks, think
he would be a great one with Shackelford.
GirlSaratoga
Sign and Judy B:
The absolute power Wise Dan has is AMAZING! When he was heading down the stretch, the shot of him (which was an amazing shot) of his right side showed the power, strength, and muscle tone he has and when he put it into that last gear, all can was WOW! Whoever the camera man was, that shot on T.V. was something I have NEVER seen on T,V. before! Very, very impressive!
Didn’t get to see Groupie Doll and Shack’s races, had to be some where for those 2 races, if you know of a place I can see them, please let me know as you gals are the experts in finding these wonderful video’s! I saw Dale’s interview when they asked about Shack falling on his head, did he really fall or did he just stumble?

Dear GS,
That BC Turf Mile was awesome, I just rewatched it and that move
by Wise Dan and Johnny V’s ride and trip could not have been better.
He is such a talent, just wonder why they gelded him ??? Not sure
about his pedigree, he is a home bred.
Had to rewatch Groupie Dolls Race on video. Will repost. She is a really great talent.
Shack just stumbled out of the gate, took a slow step, no falling. Grabbed a quarter and his “footsies are very delicate” in other words he is picky about his footing and how they feel. Not like Wise Dan with hooves of steel !!!

Dear Keta,
GOD not only broke a 1/2 of step short, but also Raphael, took him back. Which GOD
hates so he actually quit running. Comments from BB after the race. GOD also almost
lost a shoe and he is very picky about his footing. BB looked very dejected in his
interview about GOD.
One of the owners, I can’t remember right now, after his horse won the race,
said “Bob Baffert is very competative, but he is not running in the race”. I thought
that was great. I think it was the owner of a Richard Manedlla horse, maybe Beholder.
TOO FUNNY !!!!
Keta
Sign & GirlSaratoga,
I gave Bob Baffert major props for doing the post-race interview.
Read a tweet today that said he was taking the family to Disneyland today.
As you read in the tweets, poor Rafe was really getting beat up in print.
Reminded me of what Mike Smith has gone through.
Didn’t one of the BB horses Mike rode in the Triple Crown also have a shoe problem?
It was a great BC series. Fun to watch-even from home.
Apparently there were some sound system problems at track.
Saw comments that we were getting better audio than they were live.
Have a great Sunday!
Keta
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Keta,
Yes, you are right Raphael was getting slammed and I don’t think it was
any fault of his. When GOD had a slow break probably horses were in
the way and he had to take him back or ram into another horse. No choice.
Poor guy, what a hard business. Don’t think Chantal could handle the
“downs” as she was in one before she retired after being taken off GOD.
I definatley agree BB doing the post race interview was something, however.
He does have a huge ego and really has a lot to say not matter what.
He has definately had a hard year with that heart attack in Dubai and all of the career ending horse injuries. He deserves a day at Disneyland to
forget about racing and be in a fantasy world.

Keta:
Bob Baffert did NOT look happy after the BCC and how GOD performed and the way Rafael took him back! He’s had a pretty rough year and not to win a race at the BC must not be very settling to him! My heart goes out to some of these jockey’s, it can’t be easy for them, the pressure is so intense and the stakes are so high. I am just glad there were no breakdowns, injuries or fatalities. with all those races over the past 2 days, there is usually one or two mishaps.
Hope your daughter is enjoying her electricity, it’s gonna get real cold tonite, maybe frost! Hope the gas situation is getting better so she can get around especially to the barn!
Not ready for the snow hugs!

Judy, Sue & Sally B. – The Zenyatta store at Santa Anita had new stuff, I went several times, just to look at more of Zenny everywhere. Got a new shirt, with a colorful photo print of Mike riding Z to win the B.C. Classic (on the front), followed by Trevor Denman’s entire race blow-by-blow account on the back. I just loved reading the whole thing, from the top at the start, through “ZENYATTA IS DEAD LAST. ZENYATTA IS DEAD LAST EARLY”, down to “THIS IS UN-BE-LIEVABLE… ZENYATTA! WHAT A PERFORMANCE, ONE WE’LL NEVER FORGET…”
And there’s another new Zenyatta design, on shirts, mugs and totes. Nobody said, but I’m sure these will all be available online. There is also a new photo & poster by Jamie Corum. Both Jamie and Nina Kaiser were at the store at different times, signing things. And Fred Stone was there, with many of his paintings and prints.

hi jan
Harriet in Oklahoma has also said she might be at Apple Blossum….we could have a Z contingent…i have been assurred that i will have my very own dumpling badge before then….the crying cats are litter mates who hate each other…hissing and fighting every day….so…two crates…they are getting used to harnesses….but hate leashes…but i cant think of another way to let them safely out during the trip…as long as the hubby has a large supply of treats for the canine and feline folks…we with a little help…will make it
Eveline / Maryland.
After having travelled that far, what worked the best for me was to crate each one separately ,put a small ( frozen dinner tray) litterbox in the crate and cover the crate. They seemed to do much better with no attention and no distractions. Every time you look at them, take them out or feed them the crying will start all over again. Good luck!

Dear Z Fans,
Brian Hernandez was just on HRTV after going back to KY on the red eye last night
to run in the second race today at Calder. They did a really nice interview with him,
he is such a nice guy and hope he gets some really nice horses this year.

In case you forgot, I forget new names too.
He is the jockey of Fort Larned.

Dear Sue,
Won some money in the Fantasy Capping on BCC, but it is not posted.

I sent an e-mail to them.

Dear Carol,
Soo glad you got me on the band wagon. Jeff Siegel HRTV has been talking about her, just did not pay attention. There are sooo many horses to try and weed
through and follow. Thanks again. I love the spa treatment she gets a few times a week. Did you happen to see the video of her getting a treatment, her eyes
are half closed and she is very relaxed with the cool water running around
her legs.
