Happy Thursday!
Team Z is excited about tomorrow’s Zenyatta Celebration, and we hope you are too! Here are a few details and important announcements about the event:
• TVG announcer Frank Mirahmadi will be the emcee of the Party.
• Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg will host the Live Auction.
• We will have a Zenyatta Merchandise Tent set up in the Paddock tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, featuring many new Zenyatta merchandise items.
• Acclaimed equine artists Fred Stone (“Born to Greatness”) and Jaime Corum (“Queen’s Dance” and her newest Zenyatta release, “Breeders’ Cup Gold”) will be signing at the tent thoughout both days beginning at 10:00 am.
• Zenyatta jockey Mike Smith, trainer John Shirreffs, and racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs are also expected to make signing appearances on Friday and Saturday mornings.
Party ticket pick-up:
• Remember, no After-Party tickets were mailed. All are to be picked up on Friday.
• We encourage all Zenyatta After-Party participants to pick up their tickets at the tent beginning 3:00 pm on Friday. This will allow them to avoid the will-call rush at the Frontrunner entrance immediately after the last race.
• After-Party online reservations will close tomorrow, however tickets will remain available at the door, while they last.
See you soon!

Fantastic special on our Zenyatta. Glad I got to watch it.
She is just a beautiful thing. I could hardly see the TV screen through
my tears. She will always be loved by her fans. There are folks
who like to say she wasn’t that great. My response to them is, well when you win
7 million plus carrying someone on your back then I will personally kiss your ****
Hope all are having a great time at the BC.
High hoofs to Royal Delta and Mike Smith.

Janet, great post. I think the Queen in in a class all her own for good reason. You hit the nail on the head as they say.

Keta:
Would love to see Royal Delta get horse of the year! That would make it the 4th year in a row a girl horse got it! I believe in 2009 Rachel Alexandra not only got horse of the year but she also got female athlete on the ESPY’s beating out one of the Williams girls! (I think Serena?) I remember watching the ESPY’s and when I heard RA’s name I was shocked, never imagining she would win!
Sorry you didn’t make to the BC this year, but all who couldn’t go are sure glad you are here with us so we can get the latest updates, tweets, and info on whats going on, I know you would rather be there! But we LOVE having you here with us, thanks for all you do for us who can’t or don’t know how to do!

GirlSaratoga,

Daughter on Long Island is without electricity & will be for some time.
Biggest problem is getting gas.
She has been to the barn for the last couple of days, but is concerned
that she will run out of gas over the weekend and not be able to go.
Getting electricity can not come fast enough for those who have been without.
Royal Delta certainly has earned HOY. We will see!

Some day our daughters will get when they become mothers!

I am almost positive RA got athlete of the year in 2009! But if you find out that I made a mistake, please let me know! I remember thee being a BIG to do after because a horse beat out a human, and they didn’t think a horse should or could get this award over a human!
Have a great time today! Hope you win lots of races! Enjoy the sunshine and warm weather while you can!

Dear Keta and Z fans,
Events beyond my control, did not go to the Breeders Cup, SOOO BUMMED.
Trina and Diana gave my Z party ticket to Christy Boyd from TROTT, hope
she had a good time.
As far as Questing, HRTV posted a head shot of her today and she has a swollen
left eye, this may be the reason she did not want to race, hope she has not thrown
in the towel.
Great day of racing, spent it with some very good friends to try and cheer me up !!!
Heard all of the group in the background with Diana called me, they are having a blast.
Can’t wait to hear about IT ALL. FOR SURE IN 2013.

I finally got to read the story you posted about Much Rejoicing back a couple of posts ago! What a wonderful story, so glad she finished in the money! Didn’t hit the board tonight, I had Royal Delta and Questing for the exacta! (Maybe tomro!) As soon as the gate opened and Questing was dead last and not moving I knew it was all over for me, I had a feeling something was wrong with her. I am just glad she is alright, who cares if i didn’t win, I would rather loose then win and see a horse hurt, even when it’s my real money.
It sounds like Papa Charlie has quickly become spoiled, being out in the paddock all day as free as a bird! How wonderful for him and you! Give him a treat from me and a BIG kiss too! (Hope he’s filled out some too?)
Good luck tomorrow with the BC Classic, I really hope you get on the board! (We don’t want any goose eggs!)

So good to hear from you. I picked Royal Delta and Love and Pride for my Exacta Box in the Capping Contest. I chose Alpha and MMM for my Exacta Box for the Classic, so we’ll see if I make the board for the first time. So far, I haven’t helped the team at all. I just read that Questing sustained some kind of injury to her eye. Hope she is OK.
Saw Papa Charlie today. He did some lungeing work and then he had a lot of treats; carrots and mints. He has filled out a lot and his coat just glistens in the sunshine.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.
It begins again on March 10, 2013.
Why doesn’t Arizona observe Daylight Saving Time?
By: Chris Kline Posted: 11/02/2012
PHOENIX – This weekend marks the end of Daylight Saving Time for most of the United States – but not Arizona.
Unlike almost everywhere else, Arizona doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), and hasn’t done so for about the last 40 years.
Arizona’s independence from DST can cause a lot of confusion for both residents and visitors.
Excerpts from article
According to an Arizona Republic editorial from 1969, the reason was the state’s extreme heat. If Arizona were to observe Daylight Saving Time, the sun would stay out until 9 p.m. in the summer (instead of 8 p.m., like it does currently).
Another Arizona Republic editorial from 1968 stated, “Drive-in theaters, the parents of small children, the bars, the farmers and those who do business with California” were against Daylight Saving time while “power companies, the evening golfers, the late risers, and the people with business interests on the Eastern seaboard” were for it.
But don’t be fooled by Arizona’s DST stance. Not every corner of Arizona is exempt from Daylight Saving Time today.
The Navajo Indian Reservation follows DST, but the reservation stretches across four different states.

Americain now clear-cut Cup favourite
A second Melbourne Cup is looming for the 2010 champion Americain after he drew perfectly for Tuesday’s $6 million race.
Americain, the pre-draw favourite, will jump from barrier 12, a gate his part-owner Gerry Ryan described as “perfect”.
“We’re going to be very competitive,” Ryan said.
“The horse is still improving, he can run in any conditions and we have the right jockey.”

Questing was pulled up before halfway in the US$2-million Grade One Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic over nine furlongs on Friday, November 2, at Santa Anita Park, California.
The three-year-old Hard Spun filly was slightly slow into stride as the eight runners broke from the stalls and soon raced in last in the dirt contest.
By the first bend, she trailed the seventh by a fair margin and dropped further back on the far side where she was pulled up by Irad Ortiz Jr.
The Godolphin filly was attended to quickly by veterinary personnel and a horse ambulance brought her back for examination.
Dr C Wayne McIlwraith, the Breeders’ Cup veterinary spokesman, reported: “Questing was eased in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic.

airlines will let you cancel your trip and keep the money on file for
one year from the date of purchase) and I know a hotel already that
is not too expensive. Some of the 5 stars are $300 or close per night.
Yes, hope questing’s eye gets better. She must have hit it on the gate, as they would have noticed it before she went into the post parade, unless
she did it right before on her stall door or something and then is got swollen.

Dear Sheena,
I love this quote about Kauto from one of his recent retirement articles, he such a TB.
He will be a boy forever and ” we must protect him from himself”.
“Now 12, Kauto Star is fully fit but has reached an age at which the great majority of jumps racehorses are put out to grass. He won two top-class races from three starts last winter but competing at the highest class becomes more of a strain as age takes a toll and his connections have decided not to take the risk of sending him back to the track.
“We have had nine superb years with the horse but, after seeing him in his work these past few weeks, myself, Clifford [Baker, head lad] and Dan [Skelton, assistant trainer] were of the opinion that the time had arrived to retire him,” Nicholls said through his Betfair column. “Of course, as owner, the final decision rested with Clive, but he agreed that the horse had done enough.
“Don’t get me wrong, Kauto looks and feels as vibrant as ever, as those who saw him at our owners’ Open Day last month would testify to. He was mad fresh that day and continues to be as alert as ever and very, very well in himself. But I suspect Kauto will be like that when he is 20 years old.
“And, deep down, we know he has done enough – and in some ways I think we have to protect him from himself. And maybe ourselves, too.” “
Ann NC
Nice, Sign, nice. Thanks.
I like the ” mad fresh”!!!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Yes, Ann,
ME TOO, “mad fresh” really describes Jethro, too.
Did you hear the video of Ryan Moore talking about his ride
on George Vancouver. Sooo very love his expressions; “There was
more petrol”; and there is more in the locker (guess that means
more horse left). He is such a very quiet polite english man.
Adian O Brian was asked about how George Vancouver got his name,
he explained, and then said he had to learn how to say it. It was too cute !!!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Z fans,
NO CATCHING ROYAL DELTA, this link has the video. Sooo very surprised she
won with such conviction. I thought My Miss Aurelia and Awesome Feather, who
did not like the track, would have been more competative. My Miss Aurelia was
trying to catch her, with her ears pinned, but she took two strides for every one
of RD. Sure home she can win the Dubai World cup. Very special video post race with
Mr. Leon, Mike Smith and Bill Mott.

Harriett and Sue. That was terrible. Missed seeing Groupie Doll win her race. (Have seen a video since.) Then my NBC station didn’t seem like they were going to get off for the Classic. I huried and got Cal Racing on the computer. Something interesting, I thought. They were showing the saddling area and the number four horse was giving his handler a hard time throwing his head and being a little contrary like that. I thought he was sure using a lot of energy and wouldn’t do well in the race. (At that time I didn’t know who he was.) Well, he went out and won it. I was so hoping for MMM, but he ran a great race. I liked how Mike Smith said afterwards that there would be more dances in the future. OH, I did get to watch the Classic on NBC, afterall. Marty R.

With only two days left until Havre De Grace goes for sale (Our Gracie) I am worried, Just don’t want her to leave the states. I think the Japanese are good by there horses now but I just flat hope she doesn’t leave here.
Have just been racking my brain to think of someone that could buy her and keep her here. Just want to give two “Shout Outs”
Too.
Michael Ivarone, I have been hearing over the last few years that you have been concentrating on buying BroodMares. So wish you could buy her. Just think what maybe a little one by her might maybecould mean. I just loved Big Brown and don’t you think you should make a comeback. I am still so very glad that Kent pulled Brownie up and that he is still with us. I had a customer that brought me a big brown pin that I wore that was sponsored by UPS. I just loved my pin and Big Brown. We so need help to keep her from leaving us. I know, there was some bad publicity back then, but just get a top notch trainer.
Too.
Dr Mark Dedomenico.
So glad you bought Blind Luck. You answered a prayer. But what about our beautiful horse of the year Gracie. Could you add her to your stable? Love her and just so don’t want her to leave us.
I would add Mr. Kelly that owns Hightop, but seem he is mainly buying Yearlings.
Mr Beliso from South Florida, heard someone say you weren’t going to the sale, but Gracie sure could use your help.
I am just trying everyone of ways to keep her here..

Dear Peggy N,
Everyone in commenting on Graham Motion being the 2012 trainer of the year with
getting AK back so very well to come in second in this BC Turf. He is such a wonderful
person and a great trainer.
There is also talk of Dale Romans getting the 2012 Trainer of the year, he did sooo
very well training Little Mike, what a powerhouse, little guy. Could not believe Ramon
was able to keep him off the pace and “put him to sleep” for a awhile and then
he had a great turn of foot and ran them all down at 1 and 1/2 miles.
What a performance !!!!

I soo agree with you Sign. Those are some great trainers. Great Horses. Little Mike he’s great isn’t he. I thought Shanghi Bobby was great too. Just great races and trainers

Dear Sheena,
Soo glad to have everyone here to share everything about racing and TB.
Such a very special blog and people.
Yes, you are right the chase riders I think are even tougher than the flat riders, and
they are tough. Those jumps are 5 feet high and some 5 feet wide, which is huge
and then to have 18 over a 3 mile course. Amazing.
Read that Kauto may have torn a muscle in his leg in the race he was pulled up
it in May. Sooo glad he is retired safe and sound and “mad fresh”.
Thanks for bringing him to our site, Zenny would really love him as he is
such a character.
