Happy Monday!
Check out these new photos from Alys—we think they’re something special! We hope you’re all staying warm through this especially chilly weather. Zenyatta has the folks at Lane’s End watching out for her during the cold winter months, but that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy frolicking in a blizzard or two!
Enjoy!

Hi Z!
My horses envy you! They have never been in the snow as we live close to Las Vegas, NV. in the desert and it doesn’t snow in our part of the world. We can see in on the mountains surrounding our valley but we don’t get snow here.
You look happy and having fun in the snow! Have fun girl and stay warm in the stable!
tony
I recall watching a Zenny video in which her Mike made the statement “it’s Zenyatta’s world and we’re just living in it”. How true then and today!
Max
We’re lucky to be even a small part of her world. Knowing about Zenyatta and following her career then and now is an honor and a pleasure.

Simply stunning. Alys your pictures capture the cold and pure joy of Z enjoying the beautiful snow. Stay warm and safe

Dear Max I hadn’t heard about the Fly being checked out before his race, am glad he was back to his usual self as in biting!! Am sure Hovis would destroy Viagra in a stressage test of his liking!!There’s been rumours that there’s a virus at Nicky Henderson’s yard,he’s denied it but admits the horses aren’t 100%. Not good with Cheltenham so near.Am waiting more news about Sprinter.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Sorry to hear this about Nicky’s place. Hope that it isn’t serious.
Mullins said that biting from The Fly is always a good sign. After his victory in the Irish Hurdles, The Fly was terrier like in attitude as usual, but suddenly with the overwhelming cheering of the crowd, he became serene and actually let people give him pats on his neck. The Fly in a rare display of calm was showing his appreciation for their support. Apparently the cheering was loud and long as it should be for a champion of The Fly’s calibre.
Ann NC
Ahhh, good boy, Fly. Soak it all in. Thanks for sharing that great story about a special horse, Max. Sounds like, Fly is in great shape, especially his hoof!

Thank you for this gorgeous photo of Goldie and her little colt. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
BGG. I’m confused. Is this the colt who was born in February 2013? Goldi went back to Galileo after his birth and should have her second foal by Galileo this season, as in any time soon.
Have been meaning to ask if anyone has any news of Vertigineux or Z’s full brother.

Dear Max:
I was wondering the same thing about Vertigineux and her colt. Can’t find any info or photos on them. Love and Hugs, JB

Max
Yes, it is.
Would love to see current photo. Last one I saw was August (I think) 2013
Still the photo posted is a graat shot & shows Goldi’s fierce look.
BGG
Max
BGG. It is an excellent photo. Goldi’s trainer always said that she was very protective of her stall. She was also coltish. In other words, Goldi was not afraid to bite or kick if necessary.

Dear Max The Fly is a superstar and acting like one now.Playing to the crowd. Neigh!Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. The Fly is clearly in a league of his own. His last race was all raw courage and heart. What a superb finish. He is his daddy’s son.
By the way Leopardstown looks like the tropics to me. So does Doncaster. Is this polar thing ever going to end?

JudyB. Cannot speak for Sheena, but I still have not come down from the thrill of Annie and The Fly winning their races, especially The Fly. That he is still improving at the age of 10 is incredible. He also has the Big D attitude.

Dear Judy,
Thank you for the link.
I saw all of them running, but until now, I do not know who I like, well maybe later can decide the one to pick, which one do you like?
Hugs Ingrid.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
Like you, I haven’t chosen a Derby horse yet. I’m always finding myself favoring the Tapit, AP Indy and Curlin colts. Will have to see how the prep races go. Cairo Prince certainly was impressive in the Holy Bull. Really neat for a grandson of the horse for whom the race is named.
As you are a very good handicapper, I would like to know who you pick once you have decided. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Judy, Like you and Ingrid, I have no pick yet. I too like the AP Indys and Top Billing out of Curlin. But also have a soft spot for the Grindstones. We know they should be able to get the distance. This spring should be interesting.
I’m also watching Barbaro’s last brother, Pennmarydel, to see when he finally has his first race. Don’t think it will be until later in the summer.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Yes, the Grindstones should be good distance runners. Looking forward to all the preps.
Wishing Penn the very best racing luck, safe and sound. Godspeed. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy,
Thank you for saying that I am a good handicapper, and of course I will let you, who is my favorite.

Dear Judy
They’re saying we’re looking for very icy, sleet maybe snow in the morning. Don’t know if I am going to be able to get to work. I have three different routes I can take. On the Innerstate which I usually go or two other ways. One just back way on a US Highway. or very back through the country. We’ve got rain now but they say by morning the rains turning to ice. If I go on the innerstate i face crazy drivers, the other ways falling limbs from lots& lots of trees. Oh my Wish me Luck………………………………………………..
Can you believe this for South Georgia
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
Hope the weather there is not icy. This has been a really weird Winter for sure. Take care if you do try to go to work in it. Hopefully, if it’s icy, there will be lots of work cancellations.
As TC said, “Let It Ride” is a favorite of both of us. There are some really funny characters and very good racing scenes. I think you might enjoy it; there are just a few parts that are a little off color, but not too much. We think it’s very funny. Love and Hugs, JB

New life comes in only as we turn loose of the old. There must be a place for what we want or need. If there is not a place prepared, the new circumstances flow on by-and we are left with the same things we have always had. If we think we cannot bear to part with an old way of life, we are not ready to accept anything new. Instead we can make a personal decision, a firm commitment, to forget what is behind and push forward to what is ahead. Our mental and spiritual attitudes make room for new life when we set them in motion with our words. Nothing will overtake us, not love, not prosperity, not peace and joy-until we make a place for them and ask them to come in. Hope, alone, does not do it, but a firm decision for a new life will clear the way.
My people, before the white man came you were happy. You had many buffalo to eat and tall grass for your ponies-you could come and go like the wind.

“It’s official – Hovis has man flu.
He’s after a LOT of sympathy as he’s getting zero from me! Even Herman the German needle man has said it is a good case of equine man flu.”
Does anyone know what this is or how serious it might be? His Mum’s replies to comments don’t sound terribly concerned.

On Sunday Feb 2, day 3 of Year of the Horse, 100,000 fans will pack into Sha Tin

Terry Crow
BGG-I know you posted it once before, but just to put 1.5 billion HK dollars into perspective, how much is that in American money?
Bluegrass Girl
Terry Crow
Here it is
1,500,000,000 Hong Kong Dollar equals
1,93,197,000.00 US Dollar
Now that is major betting in either currency.
And, on only 11 races.

That reminds me of an old joke. A very rich man knew he was about to die soon. He made arrangements to have his body frozen until a cure could be found for his disease. 120 years had passed but to him it was just the blink of an eye. He was revived, surgery was performed, and his recovery was complete. It was then that he remembered the money he had stashed in the bank before he was frozen. He called the bank on a payphone. When the clerk answered, he gave him the account number and the password and asked him to check on the balance. The clerk eventually came back after about 10 minutes and told the man that his balance, with accrued interest, was 13 million dollars.. The man thought to himself, “It worked. I’m rich.” Then the pay phone operator came on the line and said “That will be $500,000 for the next three minutes.”

A trainer such as Shug can be depended upon to do the right thing for his horse. However, the points system to qualify for the derby may preclude this fine horse as Shug is not likely to hurry him back.

Horses and puppies can’t be beat for cute. Plus cute guy. Get well soon Hovis. Yes it is the season for our Derby contenders. Can’t possibly make a choice. Kind of afraid to.

Vicki-I was flipping the channels around last night as a lot of the regular programming was not on and I stumbled across something called TVG classics. Apparently, after all racing across the country is concluded old races are shown. Last night it was the 2009 BCC. Never gets old for me.
