Happy Monday!
Alys sent us a few new photos of Zenyatta and her Tapit colt out on a sunny day.
13Z has become quite the big boy! He had a visit with the blacksmith last week—watch the video below to see how well behaved he was.
Alys also caught Coz and Cooper Sawyer playing with a jolly ball.
In case you missed last week’s updates, we have recently added new content to the Photos and Videos sections. Head on over to see the new 13Z gallery and an especially unique video of Z.
Enjoy!

I am so in love with all things Zenyatta especially the Queen herself and of course her baby boys. Thank you Lane’s End , Jerry and Ann and all who make it possible for Zenyatta to continue to be part of our lives and heart.
Going to Ky for Secretariat’s celebration and would love to be able to stop at Lane’s End to get a glimpse of her majesty and boys.
Love hugs and kisses to all ll
Marty R / Colorado
Can yu all put up with more of my ramblings?
I’m thinking Zenyatta and her boys will be seeing Mr. amd Mrs. Moss pretty soon. As hard as it is to realize, I’m sure weaning time for 13Z is fast approaching and last year the Mosses paid one last visit to Zenny and Coz while they were still together. And, it may also soon be time for Coz to head off for his race horse schooling. When that happens, I so hope we can still see pictures of him as he progresses.
I’m also thinking John Shirreffs and Dottie should be paying a visit soon as the Keeneland Sept. sale is also coming up. I believe they combined both stops in their Kentucky visit last year.
Well, I don’t often get this much computer time at one shot, so decided to check in.
Oh, I was happy to read in the Paulick Report yesterday that the horsemen at Arapahoe Park, my local race track, were able to present the Colorado Chapter of CANTER $10,000 from this year’s meet that just ended last weekend. I believe CANTER just began the Colorado chapter last year.

Dear Marty:
Always enjoy your posts. Think your right. Little Red will be 5 months old September 1st, so weaning could be soon and COZ will probably start training in the Fall/Winter sometime in Florida.
Wonderful to hear that Arapahoe Park has joined the Canter crusade to help retiring TBs. $10,000 is a good start. Love and Hugs, JB
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Marty,
I’m thinking you’re right on the money with your schedules for the boys.
Such a wonderful thing that Arapahoe Park is getting on the band wagon to help retirees, maybe others will follow suit. Hugs
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
OH my – how could it be “that time” again already? He just got here!! I hope you’re right, Marty, about a probable visit from his grandparents before he has to learn to be a big boy (and also before our Coz goes off to horse school). At least there might be lots of pictures. Glad to see you here – we miss you!

I’m always thrilled with the updates. Cozi is such character. I hope he can focus when time to run.

Happy birthday and many, many happy returns to Carole Kennedy! Here’s my slightly revised poem for Carole from a year ago.
A Birthday Sonnet for Carole Kennedy from San Diego
(August 20, 2012–revised)
A treasured jewel with many sparkling facets,
That is our dearest Carole Kennedy,
With beauty, wit and kindness ’mongst her assets–
Of all that’s gracious, the epitome.
If you this lovely woman have not seen,
Envision her blonde, petite, and svelte,
(Most like dear Dottie, lady to the Queen!),
And yet a world explorer who loves the African veldt.
A hippo wandered daily in Uganda
Across the open terrace of her lodge,
A gorilla mom with baby in Rwanda
Brushed ’gainst her, rushing by with scarce a dodge.
She’s a Shakespeare lover too, and thus it’s in my bonnet
To honor her with this little sonnet!

Hi Z’sters…
We just had to pop in to say Zenny now has over 128,000 FB friends! It continues to amaze us how this once in a lifetime horse becomes more important to many…even in her retirement.

@Carole Kennedy–happy, happy birthday. Hope you get to do something special and that you have many more. It has always been my dream to make it to Africa for a photo safari.
And thank you, dear Trina, for reminding us. Hugs to you both.

DAISY wants certain Zen-sters to know that THE MOUSE REALLY DID DO IT!!!!
(And that you’re TOO CUTE for saving her bacon….well, not really. Mom loves her too much to do anything drastic except hold the boot up in front of her and a la Steve Erkle ask: “Did YOU do that?”)

But Abigail, what did she respond?? “Oh no, Mom, not me . . . . I would NEVER do something so unladylike?” Hee, hee :-)

Dear Max Thanks so much for the treat. The oh-so-cute pic of the little donkeys.I believe Kauto is following Leeds Donkeys now. He’s really funny today tweeting everyone to get a DVD and has smashed yet another Ipad!!!Clumsy hooves! Is a shame Denman’s diary is coming to an end he looks magnificent .So glad the boys have all done so well in their second careers.Toronado is running in the juddmonte tomorrow do you think he can beat Al Kazeem? What did you think of the baby Bruce?Lovely pics very informal. hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Glad that you liked that photo of the young Nipper, Tank and Kauto. I loved it. I was sorry to read that about Denman. Hoping that Kauto will keep us informed, although Charlotte said that she would give updates from time to time. Hope so. Saw that photo of Bruce. Heard that it was criticized for being too common and amateur. I guess that critics expect professional photos taken by named photographers to maintain the mystique of monarchy.
Kathy R.
Dear Max:
Hope you saw the comment on Puissance de Lune a few pages back. We are in the middle of a federal election over here; a local bloke here in Canberra attended a gathering last night with his campaign manager – a dog called Bruce.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Too cute, Kathy!
Max
Kathy R. The world may be made up of Bruces and those who want to be Bruces. Then there are the Kylies.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Hi Sheena,
I had to hunt a bit to find the pictures, but I think they’re lovely!! Kate looks absolutely beautiful as always, and the dog was a nice touch – just like any family trying to be normal. The critics have too much time on their hands!
Max
Sandy. Those UK critics may be on to more than just photos. When royals become normal and just like everyone else, they may run the risk of ceasing to be royal. The next thing that might catch on is the idea that all men and women are created equal as in the American revolution.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Well, you have a point there, Max!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Loved the informal pics too. William, Kate and “Bruce” are delightful.

Wow! Now I see where people get some of their advance knowledge about upcoming races. This one is shaping up to be a real doozie isn’t it?
Terry Crow
Pretty good field, but I would think that Fort Learned and Paynter will be fighting it out at the end. I forgive Fort Learned his last race as he really only had one prep going into it. I cannot pick between them.

Note to my dog–The proper order is lick my face, then go smell the other dog’s butt. It will be easy for you to make the change.

Ditto comments by others that we are so fortunate to get these regular updates. Just love the first picture with Z and Z13….they both have the same expression, ears cocked the same, and their stride is the same! Like mama, like son!! Thanks so much Alys, and Kyle and all at Lane’s End who share their famous charges with us. Bet when Zenny showed up at your farm, you had no idea just how much your lives would change and adjust to having a living legend on the premises! I still smile when I think of the quote by Bill Farish when she first arrived at Lane’s End that interest in Z would fade with time! Sorry Bill, but your life along with ours have been changed forever by the fairy dust of Zenyatta. She’s not just a horse, she’s much, much more. Hugs to all!

Dear Judy, Shirlee, Ann,
Thank You all for your well wishes for Gabby. Shirlee I don’t know if I am going to be able to watch that race. I may have to go to Walmart or have someone give me a tranquilizer.
I may have to wait untill after its over and have someone gently tell me how it comes out. Then I’ll watch it.
I had a customer tell me the other day that she couldn’t watch horse races untill after they were over and she knew everybody was home safe. I’m getting like that too I think.
Oh my, its only two more days.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
I’m the same. Peeking through my fingers until the race is over and then I watch the replay once I know everyone made it through. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy,
I Know, I do a lot of that peeping through my fingers.
shirleeinindy
Peggy and Judy, It seems as if a lot of us do the peaking through the fingers thing. Sometimes I will change the channel just for a minute then go back. I wear out the remote but it helps. If someone goes down, I do not want to see it.
I am still torn between Orb and Palice Malice. I can live with either of them winning.
shirleeinindy
Sorry, Palace Malice.

Dear Max Yes there has been quite a few critical remarks about the photos.William and Kate like to do things their way.I enjoy their natural easy way with the public seems it’s Diana’s legacy to the nation.lLooking forward to York tomorrow and we’re promised good weather!!hugs Sheena

Sheena. Forgot to comment about York. Yes, I hope that Toro wins. I love that horse. If only he could make an impression on Moosie.

Monty Roberts to help with the Queen’s horse (that is Queen Elizabeth’s horse, not OUR Queen):

Kathy R. Carlton House now has his own horse psychologist like Moosie? The shrink may have to explain to CH that his real name is now Bruce. I really like his blinkers, very color coordinated. Bruce and the other Bruces look very nice in the photos.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
Thank you for this info on CH. Mr. Roberts has helped with the Queen’s horses in the past. Quite a guy. Hope he can help CH. Love and Hugs, JB
Kathy R.
Dear Judy and Max:
Don’t think we really need Mr Roberts (no offence). I understand that Puissance de Lune had similar problems when he first arrived here – Darren Weir (his trainer) put him back to basics and the horse now behaves beautifully. Maybe Her Majesty should think about a change of stables. Hugs, KathyR.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
That could be a good idea. Maybe that will be the next step. Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Dear KathyR – what does the phrase “the entire” mean in the article about Carlton House? (as in “the entire is owned by the Queen”)????? My horse vocabulary is getting better, but this one is beyond me.
Also keep forgetting to tell you that I located Ballarat and Warrnambool (Terry Crow apparently thinks I can’t read a map!!!). The “bool” looks like a lovely place down there on the south coast for the horses to take a dip. Am I remembering correctly that you are in or around Canberra? Australia has always been on my wish list, but hopes are fading.
Hugs, Sandy
Kathy R.
Dear Sandy:
“Entire” means he’s either a colt or a stallion (depending on age). Haven’t been to the “Bool” for years now – my husband came from down that way – a tiny town called Murtoa (where some of the top trainers, (such as Black Caviar’s Peter Moody) send their first time horses to get the feel of a race, and the confidence from a win. And yes, you’re correct – I do live in Canberra. Plenty of time for you to visit – we’re not going anywhere! Hugs KathyR.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Aaaah! Well . . . . . . then the term does make a certain amount of sense. Here they just say “horse” to have the same meaning (as opposed to gelding). Unfortunately, the problem is that I’m not going much of anywhere either – stupid knee!!
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sis Dawn
So very glad to hear from you. Congratulations on your anniversary, it sounded like mine with customers too. So Great. So glad for your good medical news too.
Wow what a great time you must have had in Kentucky.. I think I would just be totally in heaven if I could just live there. I hope to get back down to see Leroi soon and his beautiful little daughter.

Dear Abigail, Max and Judy:
Puissance was bought by Gerry Ryan (co-owner of Americain) for just over $120,000 last year with the aim of winning his hometown Bendigo Cup – which he did by eight lengths. Puissance was cheap because he was a barrier rogue and a stallion with a nasty streak the previous owners couldn’t handle. But, as I mentioned earlier, Darren Weir (the trainer) re-educated him and sorted him out. The horse is actually Irish-bred, but French trained, so maybe that, combined with his registered name, is where his stable name comes from. But he’s an exciting horse to watch, so wish him and the connections well. Cheers KathyR.
Max
KathyR. He’s become one of my favorites. Please keep us informed of his racing career. I will think of him as Bruce Frenchy or Frenchy Bruce. Such is the beauty of Bruce. It works with everything.

Dear Sandy:
Here’s a little piece on Peter Moody and a first starter at a country track:
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/superracing/makybe-diva8217s-12m-little-brother-rodway-set-for-lowkey-debut/story-fni2gegf-1226701117171
Some first starter – related to the wonderful Makybe Diva! Cheers. KathyR.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Related not only to Makybe Diva but also shares a sire with our Zenny!!! Interesting story about how Peter Moody likes to gt them an easy first win, and also an Interesting track there at Sale – the overhead picture makes it look more like a triangle (with rounded corners) than an oval. Maybe there is more variation in tracks than I would have imagined. Thanks KathyR!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
To Kathy R and all Australians, with tears and shame for the gun culture of my country, I offer deepest condolences for the senseless killing of 22-year-old Melbourne baseball star Christopher Lane, in the U.S. on a college scholarship, who was shot as he was jogging in Duncan, Oklahoma. The three teenage suspects, who reportedly say they did it for the thrill because they were bored, are in custody, thank goodness, but the reach of Justice will unfortunately be unable to restore Mr. Lane to his loved ones and country. Again, deepest sympathy for this shattering loss. Vale Christopher Lane.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Ditto from me (and thanks Trina for saying this so well). I was just so shocked and angry, I could think of WHAT to say. I just heard on the local news that it’s getting this kind of coverage because of the international aspect – actually happens all the time, but we never hear about some of the other victims. What is our society coming to?
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Agreeing with you, Trina. Totally uncivilized and unacceptable.
Kathy R.
Dear Trina, Sandy and Barbara:
While we don’t understand the gun laws in the USA, most of us know (and my family in particular) that Americans are a kind generous people. Every nation has it’s nasties – we had one that led to the tight gun regulations who smiled and laughed (by his own admission) while shooting tourists at Port Arthur in Tasmania. We must just pray for a better way. Hugs KathyR.

Dear Zenyatta and Friends,
Trina, Sue, Barbara, Abigail, Marty and Sis Peggy, thank you all for the warm welcome back!!
Abigail, I loved the Daisy story. I agree with everyone else, it just had to be a mouse.
Marty R, I hope you have not been in the path of any of the fires over on the Eastern Slope. It was also great to hear about the support that Arapahoe Park gave to Canter.
Carole Kennedy, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!!
Sis Peggy, it is wonderful to hear from you. My District Manager, staff and the customer’s did make my anniversary very special. Yes, Kentucky was amazing as always. I know it would be fun to share it with you sometime.
Sweet dreams to you and your boys, Zenny. Love and hugs, Dawn
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
A belated “welcome back” from me too Dawn. Still can’t get over running into you and Shari in the parking lot at Winstar – good thing your Colorado plates provided the heads up. Really too bad that you weren’t able to connect with Debbie earlier so that we all could have gotten together.
