Happy Monday!
Alys sent us a few new photos of Zenyatta and her Tapit colt out on a sunny day.
13Z has become quite the big boy! He had a visit with the blacksmith last week—watch the video below to see how well behaved he was.
Alys also caught Coz and Cooper Sawyer playing with a jolly ball.
In case you missed last week’s updates, we have recently added new content to the Photos and Videos sections. Head on over to see the new 13Z gallery and an especially unique video of Z.
Enjoy!

Many thanks for the wonderful photos of Zenny and the boys, we can always rely on some excellent pictures from Alys. As well as inheriting their good nature from Mom I’m sure that the good manners come from the wonderful folks at Lane’s End – like children good manners in horses are taught.

Wonderful wonderful pictures and vids. Thank you so much, Team Z/
Alys: I just love the first picture of Z and 13Z. While the coloring differs, posture and conformation look like a clone. What a smile maker. Just beautiful…
All pictures and videos loved and appreciated.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Debbie
thank you thank you thank you love love love;)))

Wonderful pictures. 13Z is starting to look royal, less babyish. Who is his striking paddockmate – looks like he is trying to strike a Zenyatta pose as well. Also wondering how Tasty and her 2012 foal are doing.
Sarah
WOW!!! Our Queen is looking as beautiful and regal as ever with her beautiful young son! Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos.
Lori
Awwww……..will there ever come a day when I’m not in love with all things Zenyatta? Nope, I know NOT!!
casey
Such beautiful photos of our Queen and her little prince. Love the videos of Coz and his jollyball and the Little PRince looked like a champ getting his pedicure… I love that Zenyatta has stamped her calm, curious nature on both boys. They KNOW they’re ALL THAT!!! Just like their mama!
tony
Casey, I couldn’t agree more…these two know they’re very special.

@Sue Fredrick–wonderful news! Have been holding my breath all day. I do hope she is rid of the pain.
@Sue Noel–we are keeping caught up through the news. The economic impact, apart from the impact to the landscape, must be devastating. When I heard that rain was predicted, I thought that would be a good thing, but I forgot about the lightning. Give Barnaby and Traveller a hug from us all.

Thanks so much for the videos and photos! Love them! Hey, once Coz’s career as a racehorse is over, maybe he can become a champion soccer player! ;)

Thanks for the up-dates Team Z
Everybody looks great. :)

I’ve loved her forever now, she is my black beauty of the horse world, by the way, I grew up with that book, I owned 6 horses, in my younger days, but , she has won my heart with all her heart, her diva dance that she used so well as she entered the track, and the two most beautiful colts, I’ve ever seen. Yes I love her, and forever will.
PS: My money was always on her nose.

Sharon, I began my love affair with horses after sobbing my way through Black Beauty. Wonder if little girls still read it?

Dear Sue Noel,
Continue to hold you and Barnaby, Sue and Traveller, and all who are in your area in my thoughts and prayers. Pray for the safety of the firefighters, too. Hope they can get this under control and extinguished soon. Stay safe and keep in touch! Hugs

You certainly have been busy traveling; that’s great. How nice that you met up with our Dumplings Shari, Debbie and Auntie Judy.
Thank you for your kind wishes for my little Lola Mae. She came through just fine and is back to stealing my socks. Love and Hugs to you and your Mom, JB

Dearest Zenyatta and Friends,
Hello from Colorado. My beautiful Zenny, you are breathtaking, as always. Little Red and Coz are just gorgeous and getting bigger every day and they definitely look like you! The top picture is extraordinary!! Thank you so much to Alys, Jerry, Ann and all of Team Z as well as everyone at Lane’s End for continuing to share our beloved Zenyatta and her wonderful boys with us. It truly means the world to me. I am so happy that Dottie and John are doing well in New York and enjoying the season at Saratoga.
I can’t believe how quickly this summer is flying by, Zenny. From mid-May until now it has been action packed. I took two weeks with my best friend Ramona and traveled to the Bahamas on a Disney cruise and then spent another 9 days at Walt Disney World. I loved the Disney Dream and of course WDW was great. Fun, food and fantastic adventure. I told my mother that after having Mickey Mouse kiss my hand and twirl me around in a dance, I was spoiled for all other men.
Next, it was on to my favorite place in the world, Lexington, KY for my annual visit. It was fun to have dear Shari Voltz there with me again, plus I loved spending time with Debbie Godby and running into Sandy from Ohio at Winstar. I am sorry I missed being able to say hello to Auntie Judy while she was there also. It always makes me feel so good just knowing you are near, Zenny. I am getting acquainted with so many people and horses at the various farms that it is wonderful to visit with them again. We traveled to a total of 17 farms, Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Shaker Village and the Kentucky Horse Park during the week we were there. I will share some pictures and stories later.
Mother and I took another week just traveling to Kentucky and then circling back through Virginia and home. I was so happy that I was able to treat her to an evening at the Greenbrier. We had been there to have lunch or dinner before and mother has always loved it so. I could not believe when we got to our room and it was done up from top to bottom with pink roses. They are mom’s favorite flower. I told her I thought someone upstairs must have known she was coming or maybe it was a little Zen magic.
When I got back from vacations, I was scheduled for my yearly examine to see how my tumor was doing. GOOD NEWS, ZENNY! All of the blood work came back normal and although the scans showed the tumor has grown again, it is only slightly. If I continue to do so well, we are looking at further tests being scheduled only every other year. Yippee!!
I celebrated my 20th anniversary at the bank. Not quite the years Sis Peggy has put in at her bank, but I am working on it. My staff and District Manager gave me an afternoon party with friends and customers invited. The cake was yummy! I have to tell you Zenny, you were a star that day. Everyone that went into my office remarked on the amazing Jamie Corum picture of you “dancing” that is on the wall behind my desk. People would ask me to tell them about you and why I admired you so, it is not hard to sing your praises, my love. Having known you and your remarkable Team Z, my life has been enriched by your spirit, your beauty and the wonderful joy which touches the lives of all who share their love of you. What a family you have created. You are UNBELIEVABLE!!
To my amazing Zster’s, although I have not been writing much for the last several weeks, I have tried to read many of your posts. You all share so much wonderful information, personal stories, heroic efforts and observations on life; I feel blessed just to be a part of it. Know that you all reside within my heart and are always in my thoughts and prayers. I will write again soon, Zenny. Good night and sweet dreams to you and yours for now. With Much Love, Dawn
Sue Noel: Thank God our prayers have been answered that you, Sue, Barnaby, Traveller and everyone are safe. I will keep praying that your home remains safe as well. Fire season is always a scary for my family as my wonderful nephew Justin fights forest fires for a living. This summer has been very bad and he has been traveling from one fire to the next with little or no break.
Diana: Happy Birthday!!! Here’s wishing you a very special day. Happy Belated Birthday to all those I know I must have missed as well. May the coming year be all you could wish for and more!
Trina: Your poems continue to be just as beautiful as you are.
Karen G: I loved your Facebook page for Dottie’s birthday. You are always so creative and generous!
Sis Peggy: I hope you are enjoying your summer sweetie!!
Judy B: I am so glad that your cute little girl is doing better after having all those teeth removed.
Sue F: What a relief that your daughter’s surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery.
Pati: Prayers for you Gus.
Casey: The story and pictures from your day with Paynter and the Zayat’s at Del Mar was great!
Brenda: So wonderful to see your post, I think about you often.
Abigail: To a writer extraordinaire, your Vault entries are magnificent! Thank you for sharing your gifts!
Finally, I know many of you have probably seen this Zenyatta video over and over, but I wanted to share it again. Every time I need my Zenny, Team Z and Zster fix, I pull this up and watch it. She touches my soul.

Dear Dawn, thank you for your post–you are very much missed! All the best to you and your mom.

Dear Dawn
I’m behind on this blog because I’ve been out of town – again! ;-) I’m blessed to have a mother who will turn 92 on August 31st. She (also a ‘Ramona’) was who I went to visit this time. I showed her the photos and videos of Zenny and 13Z. I also shared photos of my namesakes: Judy The Beauty, Judy In Disguise, etc. (lots of Judy’s racing lately LOL)
Anyway, I’m sorry I missed you while I was in Kentucky. My visit with The Queen and 13Z was surreal (as were all my visits with Zen when she was at barn 55). Zenny is still very loving and affectionate! Little Big Red is quite the guy and I can see he already knows he is born of “royality” He has the cutest BUTT :-) The video I took in the brookmare barn is very similar to the one shown here… him walking and showing off that cute butt.
Stay healthy and strong! Maybe I’ll see you this Breeders’ Cup.

I received this letter from the FC peeps.
Hi Sue,
Please accept my apologies for any technical difficulties that may have affected your wager, or the wagers of your league members, for the Alabama.
We changed the wagering module last week, in the hopes of making it easier for players to place or edit their fantasy picks. However, with the new selection process, many players saw the ticket appear at the bottom of their wagering page, believed that their ticket had been submitted, and did not click the “Submit” button underneath the ticket, which means that their wagers were not recorded. Only by clicking the “Submit” button at the end was a wager properly recorded.
We are taking all of the feedback we have received from players about the Alabama into consideration as we work to ensure that this problem does not happen again.
Please let the Zentastic members know that they should feel free to email me with any questions about placing a wager, or to ask me to check and confirm that their wagers have been successfully placed before a race. My goal is to make this as fun as possible for you — I’m sorry we failed in that last week.
Thanks for playing Fantasy ‘Capping.
Best,
Jessica

Thanks for the update Sue and for contacting them on the team’s behalf. Hope the bugs are worked out and everyone’s bet gets counted this week. I feel bad for those who were actually “in the money” last week but didn’t get any credit. I take it they didn’t offer to adjust anyone’s winnings?
Ann NC
Thanks Sue.
I am sorry some of my teammates lost their wagers.
Here’s to a better week, Cappers! Honk Honk.

I couldn’t place my wager either. I hope this week is better.

Thank you Sue for contacting FC. I am sure they got other feedback and all is in order now. Unfortunate for those who had winners that didn’t register.

Heartfelt appreciation to e’1 for the update. What beauties!!!!!!! Zenny has made a difference in my life. Love to her, coz and 13zenariat xoxo. I can hardly wait till Coz races. I’m on pins and needles in anticipation. My sis visited LE over the weekend. She didn’t actually go in but took some outside pics for me. Someone gave her a picture card thing and she told me one of them had a picture of “that horse” that I like. “It’s Zenyatta, Her name is Zenyatta,” I replied loudly. Huh? The the whole world doesn’t know her? Un-BE-lievable! Anyway, I’ll be getting some email pics of Zenny’s home.

Hi there Zen-sters.
Sweet Zenny, Coz and Redhead: you are all looking just gorgeous and it amazes me, as others have said, how influential Zenny has been in stamping her looks and her temperament on her boys. Especially important for Coz, I would say, because a lot of the Bernardini’s (like the Galileo’s) are “hot.” Or else, “fussy in extremes.” At least as youngsters. Although I do recall hearing in that special on Bernie when he was “chosen” by Team Z that he began to get it together, temperament-wise, as a 4 year-old. I’m praying that Coz truly has Zenny’s more mature personality (because she, too, was no easy 2 year-old), since I’d like to see him race at 2, even if it’s late in the season, while understanding that “que sera sera.”
I don’t know why, but I find that the Redhead looks more like Zenny to me than Coz, although they certainly both look like her. I think it’s the expression in his eyes: warm, deep and glowing.
I watched Rags To Riches’ son, Admirer, run yesterday in the UK. He’s her Henrythenavigator colt and this was his first start. Although he got a mention “…the impeccably-bred Admirer” he wasn’t very impressive first time out. It was obviously a learning experience for him. He appeared to not have a clue what he was doing there and it also looked like he didn’t particularly like the ground. Here’s the link — you’ll see the field listed & above that it says “FULL REPLAY” — Just click. (FYI: if you’re not a member of At The Races you can register for FREE): http://www.attheraces.com/card.aspx?raceid=776241&meetingid=61662&date=2013-08-19&ref=fixtures&refsite&nav=racecards
I hope he improves as he gains experience. But it sure is a reminder that breeding greatness from greatness isn’t automatic!
For those who know my love of dogs and cats (all animals, really) here’s another DAISY story.
Yesterday was a pretty normal day. I was working (at home) most of the time but Daisy & I had a great walk in the afternoon. I did nip out to the pharmacy, promising Her Nibs that I’d be back swiftly — which I was. However, I neglected to give her a munchie because I’m trying to wean her off a cookie each & every time I go out. (Daisy is a rescue. She’s a native Northern dog — husky or malamute X German Shepherd. She spent her first year living on the street in a Quebec Cree village, was kicked & beaten & etc. by boys and men. {It’s not that the Cree are cruel. But there are TONS of street dogs up North mainly because there are no vets to neuter them in these communities. So they run in packs, have pups & etc. and become the object of disdain & sometimes, abuse. I rescued Daisy when she was about 18 months old and she was very very anxious every time I left the house without her. So I gave her a cookie to let her know I would, indeed, come back soon.}
Last night I was busy in another part of the house for perhaps 15 minutes. When I came back into the living room, I found one of my very old & well-loved FRYE cowboy boots in the middle of the rug, with a huge hole chewed into it. {In truth, I am sentimentally attached to them, but they are falling apart.} And there was Daisy, her (large) ears drooping down to her shoulders, looking up at me.
Clearly, she was telling me something because those boots have been in my studio as long as I’ve owned Daisy and she’s never touched them. In fact, she’s never chewed up anything ( and I’ve owned her now for almost 2 years).
And…she could NOT have made that huge a hole in 15 minutes.
I figure, as I went out to the pharmacy in the morning, she must have done it then AND TAKEN THE BOOT BACK INTO THE STUDIO WHEN SHE HEARD THE KEY IN THE DOOR — and then retrieved it again when I was working in the back of the house!!!!
Lovely to hear from you, Dawn! And thank you for the lovely words. So glad to hear that the tumour is behaving itself and that you’ve enjoyed some great holidays!!!
Love & hugs to all
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Abigail,
NO, NO, NO, Daisy didn’t do it!! She was just showing you what the mouse chewed up. I’m sure she would never do anything like that because she’s too grateful for you and her rescue from the streets. Please rethink your opinion (ha,ha) hugs
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Sue, I’m sure you’re right! The MOUSE did it! Blessings to our dear Abigail and her sweet Daisy.

Dear Abagail:
So enjoyed your post and thank you for the replay of Admirer’s race. As you said, the most royal breeding does not a great runner make. Hope Z’s boys have inherited the racing genes from her and their sires. They both seem to have her wonderful disposition and they do have her beautiful looks.
I agree with Sue and Trina. The MOUSE DID IT! Love and Hugs to you and Daisy, JB
Maryp NY
Abigail,
Sue is right on, the MOUSE did do it. Time to apologize to Daisy and give her a hug!!

Thank you so very much for the new photos and videos to lift my heart!! We have been on vacation and therefore unable to check the web-site very often. Finally home last night all I wanted to do was get the car unloaded and get to bed – lol! What a beautiful surprise to come here this morning to see the newest photos and videos of our beautiful Queen!! Thank you for continuing to share this remarkable wondermare and her family with the rest of us. I am deeply grateful for all that Team Z does for us.
Marty R / Colorado
Absolutely stunning pictures. There must have been something really interesting ahead in the first one. Both Zenyatta and 13Z’s ears were up and forward and they were on the move. I think Zenny had to be pretty close by for the farrier visit.
Thanks to all of Zenny’s connections and Lane’s end for keeping us involved in her and her handsome boys’ lives.
Dawn Conrad, it was good to see your post. Congratulations on your good health news and your 20 year anniversary with the bank.
Sue Fredrick, very happy the news about your daughter’s surgery is good and hoping she is up and about pain free very soon.
College bound Pati, best of luck to you and hoping this is a very satisfying. exciting experience for you.
Sue Noel, very thankful you, Sue, Barnaby and Traveller are safe. Every morning the skies over Denver are hazy and smokey because the jet stream is just right to carry along the smoke from those fires. It’s hard to see the mountains. And now there is one close by in a county west of Denver. The fire dangers are so extreme.
Captain Zentastic Sue, thanks for sharing your news from the fantasy handicapping folks. We lost our power, then after the computer was up and running, it wouldn’t let me into the website (along with several other sites) Very frustrating,, but I can’t say if I would have figured out how to place my wager since so many others had problems. It’s onward and forward for the coming weekend.
Trina, thanks for all you are and all you do…truly a wonder and we are so blessed you honor all of us with your gifts.
Thanks to all in Zenyatta Nation for sharing all you share and keeping this the best blog site on the web.
