Happy Monday!
Alys sent us a few new photos of Zenyatta and her Tapit colt out on a sunny day.
13Z has become quite the big boy! He had a visit with the blacksmith last week—watch the video below to see how well behaved he was.
Alys also caught Coz and Cooper Sawyer playing with a jolly ball.
In case you missed last week’s updates, we have recently added new content to the Photos and Videos sections. Head on over to see the new 13Z gallery and an especially unique video of Z.
Enjoy!

My dear Zster friends, speaking of dearly loved dogs, I spoke to my BFF Sue F. today.
She is devastated with a sad outlook for her Cisco. She hardly to speak to me as all choked up. The vet has determined either Cisco has liver cancer or a disease that causes such anemia that if that is the case only transfusions will help.
The vet is not ready to give up on Cisco and will know more after more test results.
Sue could not bring herself to write. I am asking for prayers for both of them. He is the coolest dog and they are like soul mates!
Thank you, hugs, Sally B

My heart goes out to Sue and Cisco. Sending good thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sally,
I know all to well what Sue F. is going through right now.
Not so long ago I had to face bad news with my Sassy.
Choices, choices and not knowing which way to turn.
I had to say good-bye on July 18th and I just lose it some
days and do nothing but cry.
Sending prayers out to Sue and Cisco that there is a miracle
for him.
Hugs and Prayers

Janet-Not only do I send my prayers out to Sue and Cisco, but also to you. It takes a while to recover from a loss of a beloved pet.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Janet, Prayers for you too. I am sorry for your lose. It took me months to get over losing my Jessie, as a broken heart does need time to heal. At least we will meet them at the Rainbow Bridge.

Will keep Sue and Cisco in my thoughts and prayers with hopes for healing.

Okay, I tried my handicapping skills at the fair today on the pig races.
yes, pigs.
Thought I was doing pretty good. My fav Bacon Bits had no kick in the stretch, but my second choice Miss Piggy won the heat. it came down to the match race between Miss
Piggy ( on past performances, the most wins ) and the sleek Farmer John. I knew he was sitting on a big effort, so I went with the long shot Farmer John.
He blasted out of the gate, while Miss Piggy missed the break and FJ opened a 5 length lead on her. She could not recover in the stretch and Famer John crossed the wire in record time, well clear of Miss Piggy.
Now, if it was that easy with horses. Ha! Ha!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Too cute, Janet! Thanks for the bright spot, and high hoof to you and FJ!
Janet Newman
Trina,
it was so much fun!
shirleeinindy
Thanks for the fun post, Janet. Sounds like my handicapping. Gotta learn to go with the head not the heart. But no fun in that.
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca (bride to be)
I love pig races, they are so funny. Funny story, thanks and good luck to all the cappers tomorrow. I won’t be home to watch the races tomorrow. Meeting up with our friend who will marry us and some other friends and then, we’re going to the park to figure out how we want to do the ceremony.

I love the videos Nicole puts together. It is a small operation, but she loves her
mares and babies under her care. Love the colt and his Mom will probably
tell him, that won’t be the first time you make an idiot out of yourself in front of a girl.

This rates another “too cute,” Janet! Did you hear that little horse laugh at the end? And my, those extra long stockings on both colt and filly are striking. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Janet:
How adorable these two babies are. Very unique markings. I’m thinking maybe the same sire? Love and Hugs, JB
Janet Newman
Trina and Judy,
A lot of us thought it was markings, but Nicole let us know that the
white on their legs is a “cooling mud” used to on the foals to
ease joint discomfort as they are growing.
A spa treatment just like we humans like to ease our aches and
pains.

Thanks, Janet, for a real day-brightener!! Even when you’re big and brave, it’s good to know that Mom is around to soothe your tender feelings :-) Wonder if they make that cooling mud stuff for knees???
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca (bride to be)
That was too funny. I was wondering why they had a mud pack on their legs. That poor colt, was embarrassed and had to run to mom for comfort. LOL
Randy
This was so cute! Very nice looking moms and foals… the little ones look about the same age as Z13.
Loved the colt that when he fell he just lay there for a few minutes, probably trying to figure out how he was going to get out of the situation with as much dignity intact as possible.
Thanks so much for this.

I came across this video on HRTV tonight and was blown away! Absolutely amazing!! It is called a Celebration of the Thoroughbred and Barbara Livingston’s photos were used to put it together. It is in support of the Gulfstream Thoroughbred Aftercare Program.

Thanks Max and Sheena for another Friday smile. Based on what I’ve read on his FB page, Hovis seems to suffer from not having a large enough local pool of potential sharers. LOTS of people have said that they would love to do it but are too far away. Hope this get sorted out for all involved.

Isn’t about time for 13Z to be weaned from mom? He’s approaching the 6 month old mark.
Hopefully we’ll get the same type of update we saw with Coz and lots of pictures. This guy sure seems to have it all and his big brother should be heading off for training soon. If Coz goes to the Mayberry’s we would love lots of pictures. Yes, the Mosses have spoiled us but please let it continue!

also…Big D has both Ea and Lea running Sat at “the Spa”….
Max
carol. Ea is definitely a son of Big D. Lea appears to be a son of First Samurai with grand sire, Giant’s Causeway. Am I missing something here?
shirleeinindy
Yes, Lea is out of First Samurai. Born and bred at Claiborne. Looks like his dad.
shirleeinindy
Yeah, Lea is in the same race as Jackson Bend. The V Man has a mount in that race also. I was surprised to see Lea entered as he mainly seems to run on the turf. I did see him for the first time at Churchill where he won on the dirt, or should I say mud. Hate it when a couple of my pets are in the same race.
Safe trip to all. Slow and safe to the V Man.

Abigail I am sorry about your Mum. My best friend has been through taking care of her mother and she now is taking care of her husbands mother. She tells me there comes a time when the children have to become the parents. The parents don’t like it but that is what has to happen. I saw this with my Dad and my Mother-in-law. It is very hard but there are some really nice places and great people in the assisted living or nursing homes. I hope you find one for your Mum.
Sue I am sorry but I can’t find what happen to Cisco. I have been looking and I must be missing the post. I hope you will get the help you need and Cisco will be ok.

SUE F. (and SALLY for so kindly letting us know about CISCO): As you may remember, almost 2 years ago I lost my beloved Jericho (my Spirit Dog) to stomach cancer. It was one of the most painful times in my life, so I completely understand as do others (above) what you must be going through. If only we could hug in this virtual place as well as embrace one another in words, Sue. But please know that my thoughts are with you and Cisco. And know, too, the love you share can never be broken and will endure forever.

RE: My mum.
She has congestive heart failure, diagnosed on Wednesday. Not terrific news but my brother & I had a really important talk that same day and, if Mum can battle on, we are agreed on following her wishes. She wants to go to a residence in the town where she grew up here in Quebec. Hopefully, we can make this happen for her although it won’t be automatic, since there is a waiting list.
I wanted to thank everyone here for your incredible warmth, kindness, sensitivity and support throughout this difficult time. Even if we are all in “virtual reality” all that positive energy just poured into me from your messages.
Thank you, my Zen family. You are THE BEST.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Abigail–It is not the death sentence it once was. they are coming up with lots of treatments. my daddy lived 9 years after diagnosis, and that was before some of the treatments they have now. Hugs.
shirleeinindy
Abigail, We will all pray that a place opens up for your mom in the residence she wants to go to.
Barbara is right. They can do marvels now with heart problems. I volunteer at a heart hospital and see people come in with terrible problems and a week later are going out the door to their homes.
Blessings for you and your mom.
Abigail_1849
Last but not least: I’ve begun reading a lovely novel that is on the Man-Booker (prize) long list for this year. It’s called “A Tale For The Time Being” by Ruth Ozeki and is about a woman who finds a bottle at the seashore containing the diary of a young Japanese woman just prior to the tsunami that hit Japan awhile back. The woman who finds the diary is herself an author and the story is about how these two characters “commune” with one another through the diary.
Anyway, other than reminding me of the beauty of the way our Zen family meets, empathizes, loves & shares, I came across a figure who actually lived while reading named Dogen Zenji. He was a very famous Zen Buddhist & scholar who lived in the 1200’s.
AND THEN IT HIT ME!
A GREAT NAME FOR Z-13 would be:
RED ZENJI

Saginaw Euthanized After Fracturing Sesamoids
By Claire Novak, The Blood-Horse Updated: Friday, August 30, 2013 7:06 PM
Saginaw, the remarkable former claimer who excelled in New York stakes company and won 14 of his 18 starts for Drawing Away Stable and David Jacobson, was euthanized Aug. 30 after fracturing both sesamoids in his left front leg during a seven-furlong starter event at Saratoga Race Course.
The 7-year-old gelded son of Peruvian was pulled up by jockey Junior Alvarado after taking a bad step in the race, in which he shared highweight of 130 pounds with Caixa Eletronica. The three other entrants carried 116. Saginaw was vanned off but was euthanized at Jacobson’s barn.

Miracles of Life comes in 4th in McNeil:
Barbie jumped well, but pulled strongly so Lauren let her go, but she ended up between Fast ‘N’ Rocking (the winner) and Prince Harada (second) and failed into 4th behind Peter Moody’s horse Thermal Current. She was probably unlucky to run into those colts, but that’s racing. And they all came home safely which is the main thing.
I’ve also posted this on the “new” blog for all those Barbie fans.

Atlantic Jewel victorious after 14 month layoff.
A brilliant performance from a champion mare in Atlantic Jewel, a great ride from Michael Rodd and a top training performance from Mark Kavanagh has seen Atlantic Jewel win easily in the Memsie.
