Happy Wednesday!
Last month we spent a morning with John Shirreffs and his crew at Belmont Park. We tagged along to watch Coz and Ziconic gallop and work on morning lessons. After bath time and treats from us the brothers even posed for a photo together. Scroll down to the bottom of the post for videos.
Enjoy!

Amen, Peggy N. Thanks for the report. I have been so worried all afternoon. I should have thought to check here.
Debbie S.
Happy to hear that Lola came through the surgery and that the right hip is showing good range of motion. What a relief for Judy, may they both have a good rest.
sheena.davies(wales)
So happy to hear that Lola Mae’s surgery was successful. It must be a huge relief for her especially with the sad news about her brother-in-law’s passing.Hopefully her sweet Lola will be home soon.Love and hugs SheenaX

Honor Code rolls home to take the Met Mile
at 7-1 in 1:33.18.
Set track record!!
Is this an omen for the next race-Belmont Stakes?
Honor Code was sired by A.P. Indy son of the Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew and out of mare Weekend Surprise, who was sired by another Triple Crown winner: Secretariat.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear BGG,
That was impressive! Honor Code came on from behind like a freight train.
Happy for Shug M., Lane’s End and all connections. Congrats to all!
Hugs
Kathy Baldwin
Awesome, awesome photos and videos! Such handsome brothers! ;) Thanks much to Team Z for being such a class act!
Love and blessings to all in the Zenyatta Nation!
Peace,
Kathy from SoCal xoxoxoxo
Debbie S.
Wow-what a finish by Honor Code, loved his surge from behind and what a kick at the end!!! He looked like he could have kept going, amazing! Thanks BGG for the info on his lineage, very impressive.Congratulations to Honor Code and all his connections.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Good Luck to all in the Belmont Stakes and undercard races, too.
May everyone be safe today!
Wishing and hoping for a Triple Crown winner — run swiftly, long and safely, American Pharoah!! Godspeed!
Hugs
Deb E.
Penny Chenery is the special guest at the Belmont today! I am absolutely in tears at this moment.
Godspeed American Pharoah. Stay safe and run fast.
Tizgood
I am so very glad that Penny was able to travel to Belmont
today. I think she knew how special American Pharoh
was/is and she has lived all these years to see the
12th triple crown winner. I also hope that Affirmed’s
family and Steve Cauthen was also there. Everyone
has been waiting. There will be a very big party tonight.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Tizgood.Yes,I saw your post.So glad you enjoyed our Derby.Frankie’s first ride for 4 years. As you know the last few years haven’t been his best to say the least. His racing ban and the split with Godolphin. He was the oldest jockey in the race.I think Golden Horn has some top middle-distance races to win this year maybe even a tilt at the Arc.Love and hugs Sheena.
Tizgood
Go Frankie !!!!
Maybe he will have an Arc mount !!!
So very glad things have turned around
for him.
Golden Horn is such a talent !!!
Deb E.
THE DROUGHT IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMERICAN PHAROAH IS OUR 12TH TRIPLE CROWN WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH! MY! GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Deb E.
The Belmont Stakes record still stands for the 42nd year! GO RED!
Deb E.
Let me qualify this: American Pharoah won the Belmont in 2:26.55, running the second fastest Belmont in history behind Secretariat’s 2:24 flat which remains the track and world record.
Deb E.
Qualify again: AP’s time is second among TC winners, and 6th fastest overall among Belmont winners.
Max
The important thing is that Red still has the records in all three TC races. That is not going to change anytime soon, especially in the Belmont. The difference in time for that race is massive. Red also set records on dirt and turf, and in two countries. Totally amazing.
sheena.davies(wales)
Huge congratulations to American Pharoah and all of you in the US for getting a TC winner after all these years.Love and hugs SheenaX
Kathy
I’m so ecstatic!!! Well done, American Pharoah!!! Our drought is over! Hugs, everyone, Kathy
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy.Goodnight God bless you.Hope Lola Mae will be home with you soon.May you rest easier tonight.Love and hugs to all.SheenaX
Debbie S.
What a horse!!! I am so excited that American Pharoah won the Belmont and the Triple Crown!!! So well deserved, congrratulations to AP and all his connections.
It was nice to see Frosted second,I agree Peggy,he speaks to me too.
I was so touched to see Penny Chenery in the crowd.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Debbie, what a wonderful horse. So glad we have a triple crown winner. Glad to see Frosted come in second.
So glad to see Penny Chenery there too.
Denise in St. Louis
OMG He WON!!! Zenyatta your boyfriend is trying to impress you! ;)
Faithful Zenyatta Supporter
About time, so thrilled for all connections. Victor did it right this time. Ty Sheena. The race was in the US, but not the owners or jockeys. Times have changed. Seems the US trainers do all the work. Hmmm. So appreciate The Mosses.
Marshall (NC Broad)
YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
“I’m SO excited, and I just can’t hide it” — I just had to borrow the words to a popular song!
My sweet dog, Bailey, thinks I have flipped out! This is just THE BEST.
I am also happy that Mrs. Chenery was present to see another Triple Crown Winner, and she looks great, too.
This is like the best present ever, Christmas in June!
Hope everyone checks out with no injuries. Now these wonderful creatures can relax and get well deserved sleep tonight. Big Congratulations to American Pharoah, the Zayats, Bob Baffert and family, Victor Espinoza, and everybody associated with this team!!
CHEERS!!
Barbara Wood
Absolutely, Marshall. My heart was pounding, and I had tears at the end. What a relief and a blessing! Hope everyone sleeps well tonight. I know Victor will!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Barbara,
Me too! I had a racing heart (no pun intended, but I’ll go with it) and tears of joy.
He is such a fine horse — at last we got to the well, and it wasn’t dry!
Hugs and Love
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Well said Marshall! Ditto from me! What a great horse!
Sophia Gates
Wow!!!!!
Congratulations to all, what a thrill.
Pharoah looks deceptively quiet, his movement is so efficient you don’t realize how fast he is!
Frosted ran well.
Deb E.
My throat is absolutely raw right now. I screamed so loud when AP crossed the finish line my neighbors probably thought I was being murdered!
Someone (already) asked the question, “Who will be the 13th TC winner?, and I felt that electric, prickly feeling again… can a horse born in 2013 be #1`3? More powerful ju-ju…
I also just discovered that “Go the Distance” from Hercules played as background music to AP’s Belmont run is the perfect accompaniment to the race from beginning to end (not the Michael Bolton version but the Brad Kane version). All the peaks in the music jibe exactly with the race.
Oh, and I think American Pharoah has sewn up 2015 Horse of the Year!
Deb E.
One more thing and I’ll shut up: I haven’t heard a crowd scream that loud for any horse since Zenny kicked the boys’ butts in the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic.
Barbara Wood
I was thinking the same thing earlier.
Terry Crow
Deb E–I was in Vegas for the Belmont and there was a lot of screaming in the race book. I was also in Vegas when Zenyatta won the 2009 breeders Cup Classic. When that race ended, there was a brief period when no sound was made. Then, As Z was trotting back to the winner’s circle. Everybody present rose and cheered and clapped, including me. I had never seen (or heard) that before or since, including AP’s win.
pamhomeier
I agree Deb! That crowd was amazing!!!! What a great horse! Now did I hear that right? He lost his first race and hasn’t been beat since? Coz there is hope!!!!
Marshall (NC Broad)
I agree, Deb E. I don’t think anyone can surpass AP for HOY 2015!!
I screamed, too! I was bouncing off the walls and was through the roof. I went out on my back porch and yelled “WooHoo, we have a Triple Crown winner, and I am so excited!” Don’t know if anyone heard me; sure hope they did!
Hugs and Love
Ann NC
Hahahaha, luv ya, Marshall.
We did the same and shouted Triple Crown Baby!
Tizgood
Congratulations to all involved with American Pharoah a very special horse, we knew
one would come along that could win the Triple Crown.
I am sorry Victor shame on you for the comment you made on national TV, you
should have been prepared with a starement or kept quiet.
Tizgood
He said ” Oh Shit ” on national TV and commentators had to
apologize
Very poor for someone who won the most prestgious honor on horse racing !!
Max
What is a starement? Cut the guy some slack. It’s the first Triple Crown winner in this century and Victor’s got a right to be excited and excused for any mistakes of the talk variety after a race like that one. The whole horse racing world is excited. It’s all over the top. The only cool one is AP himself.
Tizgood
Swearing on National TV after winning the most prestgious award in Horseracing
is not satisfactory and would not be acceptable anywhere.
Tizgood
Just like whipping American Pharoh 32 times in the Kentucky Derby,
He should not be cut any slack, his behavior is unsatisfactory.
i
Z13Rulz
Wow I hope you never get excited about something and make a human error in the heat of your joy.
By today’s standards what he let slip is language heard on any TV show and less damaging than the unsportsmanlike rant from Coburn a year ago.
Perhaps you might consider coming down from your rarefied air and simply enjoy the accomplishment of horse and rider in pulling off something that hasn’t been done in 37 years.
Terry Crow
The “sensitive” American public is lucky I wasn’t on AP.
Ann NC
AP is very cool and Victor is very cool in giving his earnings from the race to, City of Hope. Cool Cats. Hope they are chillin’ and relaxin’ now.
Annie
What comment by Victor?
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Yes, what comment????
Especially Horses / So Cal
Need clarification…..please! What comment?
Deb E.
Victor said a bad word when the out rider caught up to him and AP, but I’m PRETTY sure it was the heat of the moment and the excitement that caused the “S” word (with Holy before it) to slip out of Mr. Espinoza’s mouth.
Tizgood
There is no excuse for a comment like that on national
TV when you win the most prestgious award in horse racing.
Karen R.
Really Tizgood? It was no big deal especially after what they just accomplished. No reason to over-react to a minor expletive said out of joy and excitement. It made me chuckle.
Tizgood

AT LAST! So happy to see this Triple Crown. Was afraid I would not see another one.
What a special horse. From all reports he is a sweet gentle soul. Just loves to run and run fast.
Max
Apparently his sire is like that too. He never tries to bite visitors. Pioneerof the Nile however prefers peppermints to carrots. He likes cool breezes so they have installed a fan in his stall at Winstar. When his racing career is over, AP is going to Coolmore.
Especially Horses / So Cal
I watched in a public setting and cried like a baby and didn’t care!
I was talking all through the race…”good break, has the lead, going very easy, no one challenging him, ears pricked, Victor sitting still, final turn, now, now, now…show em who you are!!! He DID IT, He DID IT….” Cry, cry cry with joy.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Especially Horses,
Love your narrative while watching the race! Yes indeed, He DID do it!
Hugs and Love
Ann NC
That’s great.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Huge Congratulations to American Pharoah. Hope everyone comes out of the race in great shape.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Congratulations also to Curalina today. Acorn Winner. Bet you made your dad Curlin very proud.
Max
Enjoyed watching all of the undercard races today. Nice to see Slumber win in the Manhattan. He’s a 7 year old son of Cacique, who was trained in the U.S. by Bobby Frankel. Chad Brown, Frankel’s former apprentice, trains Slumber.
Ann NC
Wow, Slumber. Nice run by him. Wish I had put a bet on him…great odds!
shirleeinindy
Peggy,
Keen Ice did his dad, Curlin, proud coming in 3rd. He, like dad, seems to be getting better with age.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Yes, big day for Curlin and Tapit. If not for AP Tapit would have sired back to back Belmont winners.
Ingrid Arnone
AP !!!! We love you !!!!!
He is a great horse!
Ingrid.
Barbara Wood
Have to confess amid all my joy that I would have loved to have seen Chromie do it last year, but this was so amazing.
And Tonalist was amazing too!
Marilu Villanueva
I am thousands of miles away, 15 hours ahead but American Pharoah has been on my mind. Prayed he and other horses would be safe and do well. Like Barbara I would have loved to have seen California Chrome win it last year. But this is AP’s destiny and Victor too. So happy for AP, team and the Zayat family.
Congratulations to Frosted, Keen Ice and their teams.
Donna Alsabrook
I was just so in awe and in tears as I watched this race. I know everything has to come together but in the end it comes down to the horse. He is one special horse. The last time I felt these emotions was when our Zenny won the Classic, and then lost by a nose in the next one. I feel so honored to have witnessed these two great horses, along with Game On Dude, Lava Man, Black Caviar, Frankel and Goldikova in my life time. I know there are so many more, and I love them all, but these are the ones who inspired me. All I can say now is WOW.
Marshall (NC Broad)
On this day 71 years ago, the Normandy Invasion began — D-Day, June 6, 1944.
Let us remember those who fought and the many lives lost with intense gratitude and honor. These were truly brave souls, heroes of that Greatest Generation.
Endless thanks, lest we forget.
Donna Alsabrook
We must never forget.
Barbara Wood
My college roommate lost an uncle that day. I never forget. Because of what it di to her, I am reminded every year.
Donna Alsabrook
My husband lost his oldest brother 3 days before the war ended. It took 4 years before his body was returned. He is buried in Colorado City, Texas. We went there a few years ago on a road trip. First time he had been there in years. It was very emotional. So sad.
