Happy Wednesday!
Last month we spent a morning with John Shirreffs and his crew at Belmont Park. We tagged along to watch Coz and Ziconic gallop and work on morning lessons. After bath time and treats from us the brothers even posed for a photo together. Scroll down to the bottom of the post for videos.
Enjoy!

Dear Judy,
Thoughts and prayers are with you and Lola mae,
power puppy. Hope she is enjoying her aqua therapy
at home and you are doing well.
Love and hugs
Go Chromie !!!!!
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Tizgood:
Haven’t been able to post on the Blog; don’t know if it was my connection or the web update. Thank you for your kind and caring thoughts for LM and me. Actually, LM won’t begin aqua therapy until the sutures come out tomorrow. I have ordered her a life vest at the doctor’s suggestion. For now we are doing the PT range of motion exercise on her hip. Have missed communicating with all of you. Have a lot of posts to catch on.
Sorry to hear the CC has a abscess. Get well soon beautiful boy. Also, sorry to learn that Steve Haskin is leaving Blood Horse. Hope he develops a Blog or some other source for his articles and comments as we value his insights in racing so very much. Love and Hugs, JB
Tizgood
Dear Judy
Great idea to get Lola a life vest that will help her float and she can
swim or move her legs better, so very glad everything came out well.
I am sad CC got an abcess, too. I hope they keep him there and enter
him in something later, there are so many prestgious races there and he
has done so well with his retraining and William Buick seems to ride him
very well. He would not be running here until the Arlington Million and I
love to see the photos of him galloping along on the beautiful English countryside.
So surprised about Steve Haskins, too. I hope it wasn’t anything medical
because it was so sudden. Maybe he was just burned out. It sounds like
he is going to do freelance work in horse racing, I so very much enjoy everything
he writes, too.
Love and Hugs

Dear Kathy.Who hasn’t mistakes in their lifetime.Show me perfection only our Lord and he forgave his murderers. What does that say about us in modern society?
Her Majesty,The Duke of Edinburgh,William and the Princess Royal plus Dave have attended the commemorations at Runnymede today. Great to see George having fun yesterday at the polo match and Kate in her skinny jeans!!.The ratties have reached over 21000 “likes”Woo-Hoo I have been turtling in my sock!Just been looking in at the chicks having lunch on the Dyfi.Glesni will brood them less and less now.The Manton Bay 3 are growing so quickly too 33(11)brings in enough fish to feed an army they are near a fish farm!!!Monty brought 20 fish in this week so our “bobs” are well fed too!Fubu is feeling a little better and getting some kitty gravy. The meds must be making him sleepy.Gosh,110F with Zoe that is very, very hot.As you said I hope she gets some banilla ice-cream.Mango’s getting a lot of pics from her mum had to laugh she thought temps in the 60’s were cool it’s considered “pleasantly warm”over here lol.Should be a good day for Chromie on Wednesday temps in the 70’s.I know it will be tough for him but all British racing fans wish him well!!!.Have a good Monday(if you can)Love and hugs to you Kisses to for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, “to err is human, to forgive divine” as Alexander Pope told us. My, you have been seeing a lot of the Royals, haven’t you! Wish we knew some of Kate’s fitness secrets. Most women I have known left no doubt that they had recently given birth! lol The ratties are crazy popular. Delving into science stuff now. Smarties! That’s great they have so many likes! I think turtling is definitely the best option for Mondays. So glad the chicks are doing so well. The ospreys sure are wonderful fishermen (fisherbirds???). Poor Fubu. I feel so bad for the pain he is in. 110F is awfully hot. We are in the 90s right now and that’ plenty hot for me! I’ll bet Zoe gets some ice cream. Who could resist that little cutie? Loved all the travel pics from Mango’s mom. Pleasantly warm at 60 is quite something! We’re shivering in the 60s! Fingers crossed that Chromie does well on Wednesday. You’re right, the 70s should be very pleasant for him. Have a good day even if it is Monday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Watching the race when Danzig Moon went down. Horrific to see her suddenly drop down out of sight. Sad for the connections. About my question on page 9 – I didn’t mean exactly that AP should be put out to pasture. I seem to recall reading about a stallion that was ridden for exercise, can’t recall which one, to keep him fit and relaxed.
carol in arkansas
One of the major studs in Kentucky…..whose name escapes me for the moment….rides all their stallions routinely….unless the horse objects
Mary Margaret in Georgia
I think Three Chimneys Farm is the farm that routinely exercises the stallions.
lauraj_cincinnati
WinStar also exercises their stallions. Three Chimneys gallops theirs on track. WinStar doesn’t. Their boys go out on trail rides (sort of) under western tack. I once asked about that. I was told that they adjust to the new tack quickly.
Max
Big D was the only horse that Three Chimneys did not exercise. He got enough exercise chasing people out of his territory.

Here is Flower Alley. This was done when I’ll Have Another was racing.
The man riding is Brian Van Steenburg. What a job!
Big D- it is about time we heard you thundering around upstairs!
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ann:
What a fun video. I bet the stallions really enjoy the daily exercise. Thanks for sharing. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Ann NC. Big D must have been thundering yesterday when his son won at Woodbine. Danish Dynaformer is described by his trainer, Attfield, a low key guy and a real gentleman, as “like a bull.” With Big D as your daddy and a momma called Danish Wildcat, it’s probably to be expected. DD is a possible for the Canadian Triple Crown. Owned by the diamond guy who also owns Tale of Verve.
shirleeinindy
carol,
Three Chimneys used to, and as far as I know, still have the stallions ridden each day. Think that accounts for the long lives some of them had. Don’t think they rode Big D however.

Dear Sheena,
Oh no, after all of this great training. When is the Eclipse? He needs to
stay and run on the turf in England after all of this retraining !!!!! He has really
learned so much I really think he could be competative more than AK.
Love and Hugs

Was just reading about the Eclipse, Sea the Stars won that race,
that would be a great one for CC to run in. It goes all the way back
to 1866, very impressive, named for the wonder horse Eclipse !!!!

Saw that change. I was surprised that Moore was initially riding as he’s usually committed to Stoute or Ballydoyle. Spencer has not had good results with GG. We’ll see.

June 16 Cherokee Devotional
Strangers are often treated with more respect than our own families. And it is true that our brief meetings give us less reason to feel irritated than when, as the Cherokee expresses it, ga ne lv, we live very close to someone.
But those we love are still most important and must be tolerant of us-and often more so than we are of them. Patience and endurance are of the spirit-and tension and irritation of the mind. We cannot throw aside our wits and respond to total strangers with more concern than we do our loved ones.
Let your good judgment rule and ponder seriously before breaking bonds that have served you well.

Dear Kathy.Wonderful devotional!I am just watching the royal procession. Her Majesty is in fuchsia today and Prince Harry is with her.I adore the Windsor greys. It is such a shame CC cannot take part.Very sad. It’s a lovely warm day there but the course has been watered.Michelle Obama and her daughters are visiting this week and had tea with Prince Harry also the attorney general was at Runnymede yesterday.Have just seen AP McCoy in his top hat and Ruby(the short guy).
The chicks seem to grow each day now taking interest in everything around them.It was lovely to see Monty feeding them today. The Queen Anne looks to be very exciting Able Friend is such a big horse!I wish the ratties had been my science teachers I love the string and sock theory.I may have taken more interest.Zoe’s team won Yay!She was thrilled.Fubu is doing quite well and Mango’s getting pics from her mum1they are enjoying their trip.Race on now!!!Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly Nikko and Sugar.Have a great day.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Lots and lots of exciting events taking place on your side of the pond right now. I was heartbroken that CC isn’t running. Oh well, safe running for all the horses and jockeys who are taking part. It’s wonderful to watch the chicks growing so rapidly. Monty sure is a good provider! The ratties are so entertaining right now. I agree, science would’ve been a lot more interesting and entertaining with them as teachers! Zoe is certainly a huge sports fan. There is a wonderful video of Gizmo and his mom on Zoe’s page. Giz is so tiny…only 3 1/2 pounds! Good news on Fubu. He just keeps going, doesn’t he? I’ve been enjoying the pics from Mango’s mom’s vacation. Such pretty country. Boo, Buddy and Blue are in Portland, OR. Enjoy Royal Ascot. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Great win for Solow in the Queen Anne.Trained by Freddy Head for Wertheimer et frère(Goldikova’s owners)he beat an international field.Afraid Able Friend just sweated up and didn’t take to the Ascot turf.Solow,as a gelding, hopefully, has years of racing ahead of him and he’s grey!!!Sheena.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Yes, very nice win by Solow. Nice way to start RA! The Queen looked lovely as usual, and Prince Phillip looked quite spry. The royal procession is truly a spectacle to behold. They have mentioned the unveiling of the Frankel statue, but we haven’t seen it yet over here.

Dear Aunties and Uncle TC:
Can’t stop laughing. Lola won’t be winning Olympic Gold Medals for swimming any time soon. The life vest was not a hit and when I placed her in the tub, she just lay there like a floating log. Would not pedal front or back legs. Took the vest off and just held her in the water; same result. So back to manual range of motion exercises. Will keep trying the aqua therapy and let you know how it goes.
Sutures came out easily this AM and doctor said to decrease the meds to once a day.
Here’s a photo of “Happy Face” without the “evil” e-collar. Doesn’t have to wear it any more. Just got out of the tub; she’s a little tired from her busy morning. Love and Hugs, JB and LM

It’s good that you haven’t lost your sense of humor Judy. Being able to laugh when dealing with a reluctant pet is a gift :-). Glad to hear that the sutures are out and the collar is off. I’m sure that Lola Mae is so relieved to be rid of it. Hang in there – we’re all rooting for both of you. Hugs!

Dear Judy,
Too funny, guess her breed does not take to the
water easily. Keep on trying, the light will go on,
maybe do her exercises in shallow water so she gets
the idea they are supposed to be done in the water.
