Happy Sunday!
We can’t believe 13Z was born almost two weeks ago. We hear from the great people at Lane’s End that he and his mom are happy and healthy.
Alys sent us a few close-ups of the little one out in the paddock this week, and we wanted to share those along with some more photos from our last trip. We’ll be heading back to the farm in a week to visit Zenyatta and both of her colts (and to take lots of photos!).
And don’t forget 12Z! Here’s a video we shot on a gray morning during our last trip. Watch him take off across the paddock to join the rest of his herd.
Enjoy!

Praying for all Bostonian’s for this mindless tragedy. Praying for Healing for those injured and strength for their families and loved ones. For those gone before us to our Heavenly Father, may they rest in his Perfect Peace. It is well and the enemy
a liar.
Good night Queen Zenyatta, may sound Peaceful sleep surround you and your 2 cute Princes tonight as always.
Good night to my Z nation family. It is well, Our Father in Heaven is still in control and on his throne of Mercy and love. Lol to all.

What a peaceful sight these pictures are on a morning after a tragedy like Boston. This is somewhere we can go and see beauty, love and calm. Blessings and thanks to the Mosses and Lanes End.
Also, on a lighter note. His blaze looks as if someone painted a white stripe down his face and then accidentally stuck their thumb in the side of it.
marsha & joe roliardi
to all concerned, thank you ever so much for the pictures and update on momma and her baby boys. this is so thrilling to see zenyatta so happy. we appreciate the mosses and everyone else for giving us a glimpse of our girl and her new life. it makes my day.they are so innocent and so beautiful. marsha & joe

After the tragedy in Boston, it is wonderful to see these pictures. Prayers for all who were affected by the bombings. Life is a mix of happiness and sadness. We have to support each other.
13Z seems to like the camera too.

Good morning Queen Z and your little Z13 and of course Z12. How are you doing mommy? Hope to see you up and moving around in the paddock with Z13. No mention yet if you will be visiting another young stud in the next couple of weeks or so. I’m guessing you didn’t go anywhere during your foal heat just relaxing and enjoying Z13.

My Dearest Zen-sters:
Please know that your Canadian cousins join with you in grief over the events of yesterday. Boston is one of my very favourite American cities and many Canadians here in Quebec will tell you that it is one city that reminds them of Canada, although no-one is quite sure why. (I think it’s the colonial influence, personally.) Many Canadians ran in yesterday’s marathon (over 2,000) and I have a friend who runs in marathons all over the world and was terrified that he had been hurt, but, happily this was not the case.
Thank goodness for sites like this one that celebrates joy, humanism, tolerance and understanding. I send you all love & hugs.

Dear Abigail_1849
Thank you so much for your kind message, very heart felt. Thank God your friend is fine as we continue to pray for the safe return of all those that participated in the race. We also continue to stand in prayer for those hurt and their families not only for their physical healing but for their emotional healing too. For those that have gone before us, we pray for their Peace and ask that God continue to comfort their loved ones left behind, Have a wonderfully Blessed week and be safe. It is well.

Dear Abigail:
Boston is very dear to me too. Thank you for your caring comments and I am so glad your friend wasn’t hurt. Love and Hugs, JB

Boston also has close ties with Halifax, Nova Scotia, dating back to the Halifax Explosion of 1917, when Boston sent much appreciated assistance during that disaster. Today the City of Halifax gave 50K to Mass General for Children to help out with care as a result of this tragic marathon event. US and Canada, probably no closer relationship ever between two countries in the world.
Ann NC
Thanks for sharing this,Max.
What a wonderful gesture. Thank you, Halifax, our great neighbor.
Anita
Has anyone hear about when Life is Sweet is due to foal? Haven’t seen her foaling listed on the Lane’s End Farm Archives as of yet. I was also wondering if anyone had heard whether or not Tasty Temptation accepted this year’s foal who was born April 10th?
shirleeinindy
Anita, I have been asking about TT and her foal but have heard nothing. Guess no news is good news. Of course, after the nasty comments Stonestreet received about Rachel’s foal and the nurse mare, Lanes End just might not want to open themselves up to that.

Sheena. Thanks for this information, very interesting to see this. I have included the link so that others can see it.
Midday became very close friends last year with Kind, Frankel’s mother, when they both went to Ireland to see Galileo. Kind has recently gone back to Galileo and should be in Ireland for a few months. I wonder if they will get back together on her return?

Rosie has a Derby mount. My Lute. So glad she has picked up a horse. Hope the trainers who are reluctant to give her mounts end up eating her dust on the first Saturday in May.

Happy to hear and read that Rosie, Calvin, Mikey, and Gary have found Derby Mounts for Derby Day! Now it’s a real race!
Regarding the whip use of Calvin, I remember Sign telling me that Mike used the whip on Zenyatta in one race like over a certain amount of times in a stretch run? I remember this because I asked how she knew this, I asked if she counted the times the whip was used in that period of time? And as Sign did, she replied with she read an article about it, where Mike was discussing using the whip on “Our Queen”. In no way to do I want to start another horrifying conversation about “whip use”.
I don’t know if it is me or my eyes, but 13Z is really, really cute, he almost has a female looking quality to him? where as 12Z looked all boy? maybe it’s just the different coloring, but there is something about this little guy that melts my heart! Maybe it’s because he doesn’t look so much like his mother or brother?
Healing prayers and thought to the people in Boston

Martha
GirlSaratoga: I know what you mean about 13Z. I think it’s because he has his mother’s sweetly sincere eyes.
Max
He’s got an irresistible charm in those wonderous big ears and long, beautiful eye lashes. There is also a certain delightful mischievousness in his eyes which is also very hard to resist.
Ann NC
He could turn turn into a hat snatcher, like our Papa Charlie :)))).
Max

It is so good to see that Zenny and her babies are so happy and cared for. I have seen so many beautiful horses mistreated and unloved. Thanks so much for the great pictures, keep them coming. Looks like baby 13z may turn gray? I look forward to seeing both babies growing up and racing. Thanks again for the great pictures and updates.
God Bless all of you

Sheena. I checked out Midday’s resume. Very good wins in the UK, Europe and the US. She was a great racing filly. I also see that Morpheus, Frankel’s brother, is racing again for Juddemonte this week as is a new filly by the name of Hot Snap. Big things are expected of her. Looking forward to see how it develops with them.
Also hoping to see another win from Hurricane Fly later this month. Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh had a great win in Japan last week with Blackstairmountain. What a fantastic race that was.
Ann NC
Go, Fly,Go!!!
Congrats to Willie and Ruby,my favorite team.

bud the police horse is getting to be quite a celebrity he has his own twitter account and was on sky news this morning!kauto and Neptune have been teasing tilly le ginge today about her blue hood sooo funny hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. There is another horse called Demonic who is also racing this week for Henry Cecil. He has the same name but he is not the son of Bernardini who recently ran at Santa Anita.
Bud deserves all of this positive attention. He is a brave horse and he is very handsome.
Here’s the photo from Kauto of the blue hat. Is this for real? Is Tilly a real horse? I cannot find any information on her or her racing career.

HAY LIST UPDATE:
Andrew Bensley has just talked with John McNair. He has confirmed that the horse has recovered well from the TJ, and is being treated for a low grade lung infection. The treating vet thinks he has a soft palate problem, possibly as a result of so much surgery and tubes down his throat etc. so has suggested a tongue tie for his next start, and maybe a cross-over noseband. His knee is doing well. John said they have no race in mind, but that “he’s a proud animal, and lives to do his job”. He emphasised he’s with the horse every day, so knows exactly how he’s progressing.

UNRACED BUT THE LADY IS A CHAMP:
This piece (from Tony Arrold, with The Australian came out on Monday 15, but due to the subscription block wouldn’t paste. So will summarise, because I thought it had some delightful information about Helsinge).
“With the greatest respect to Black Caviar, the racing week just gone belonged to an unraced mare who was more or less there to make up the numbers when she was offered at public auction at the Inglis Easter Broodmare sale in Sydney eight years ago. Does Like Bill Oh ring a bell? Well, it shouldn’t. But Like Billy Oh was her registered name when she went to action as a racing or breeding proposition. Agent Peter Ford signed the invoice for Like Billy Oh at $115,000 and RIck Jamieson of the Gilgai Farm, Victoria, signed the cheque – then promptly went about re-registering his new acquisition as Helsinge. Jamieson’s $115,000 investment for Helsinge has returned the Gilgai Farm owner $8.835m from Helsinge’s first four foals; three of them have raced and all have been winners and, collectively, have returned $10,083,337 in prize money. Jamieson will not be returning in 2014 with the Black Caviar weanling sister he has in the paddocks at Gilgai Farm, vowing not to sell any more of Helsinge’s daughters. “

Dear Kathy R.:
Thanks for all the great articles you post. This one was really a surprise. Didn’t know any of this about Helsinge. Thanks. Hugs, JB
Kathy R.
Dear Judy:
Me too, which was why I was so disappointed that I couldn’t post the entire article. I just love it when the broodmares are given the rightful place in the sun in the breeding game. Over here they tend to disappear very quickly and it’s really hard to keep tabs on former favourites on the track. Keeping all of you folk in my prayers. Hugs KathyR.

Dear Kathy:
It’s pretty much the same way here when it comes to broodmares. Z is an exception to the rule thanks to Mr. and Mrs. M. and Stonestreet is very generous about info on RA as well. Hugs, JB
