Happy Sunday!
We can’t believe 13Z was born almost two weeks ago. We hear from the great people at Lane’s End that he and his mom are happy and healthy.
Alys sent us a few close-ups of the little one out in the paddock this week, and we wanted to share those along with some more photos from our last trip. We’ll be heading back to the farm in a week to visit Zenyatta and both of her colts (and to take lots of photos!).
And don’t forget 12Z! Here’s a video we shot on a gray morning during our last trip. Watch him take off across the paddock to join the rest of his herd.
Enjoy!

So happy to see these absolutely adorable photos.
Having said that….wish we’d get a photo of 13Z like the photo of Super Saver’s new Tiznow colt.
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/902025_611955572166990_1939444406_o.jpg
The trend so far has been to show photos that cut off 13Z at the knees and no full body photos. There are a few photos that give the illustration that there is “more” seen.
It’s been two weeks and still no photo that even comes close in composition to the numerous 2013 foal photos that have been shared for other mares.
I can’t help but wonder why. Am I the only person who has noticed this?

Dear Especially Horses/So Cal,,
Have no fear, all is well in Z land and the young Prince is fine, legs and all. Have a Blessed day.

Maureen,
Agree completely… and especially with having a blessed day. Thank you for your words of ‘faith’. I appreciate reading them so much.
Many blessings to you.

Dear Elizabeth in NM.
Let me first of all, hold up Bostonian’s in Prayers and ask our Heavenly Father to bring Peace and Healing to all those injured and Strength for their loved ones in this trying time. For those who have gone before us to our Father in Heaven, may they rest in Perfect Peace. It is well.
Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated, May your night be restful, and safe and may the Peace of God surround you and yours always. It is well. LOL.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Thanks for the gorgeous photo ES. I have wondered the same thing (especially after watching all of the foaling activity at Winstar). Sometimes the legs need a little help for a few days.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Actually, I need a little help – I meant EHs!
Especially Horses / So Cal
Maureen and Sandy,
I hope all is well too.
Just wondering why the different approach in “showcasing” 13Z. Over at the Forum under the thread “2013 Foals”, the standard “new foal” photo is similar to the one for Super Saver’s baby. Also, with 12Z we got the “whole nine yards” within the first few days. These photos of little 13Z seem to have an intentional edit “area”.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Ok, one more thing…and really I am just curious about this…..The first two photos with the caption “…out in the paddock”. You don’t find those to be somewhat strange paddock photos? No background, no sky, no landscape in the distance…cute photos, but don’t get why it looks like a Photoshop technique was used and why the cropping of the legs.
I know there is no conspiracy, LOL, but I’m beginning to find all these cropped photos too funny.
Ok, I’m going back to just enjoying all LE’s and the Mosses share. Smile, smile….

Liked ZENBEE out there galloping off. He has really grown. Think REDTAPZEN. Will stay chestnut!!

In my opinion, the photographer was trying to capture that beautiful face and looking at it, one can see why. He is beautiful, for sure.

Any word on if there will be a Z and 13Z plushie?
Randy
THANK YOU for these lovely photos and the video of Z12. We devour anything and everything new so this was a real treat.
My take on the green tape issue is that probably it’s there simply to repair a torn or damaged spot in the leather caused by others grabbing and chewing the halters. Z13 probably has the green tape on his from a previous wearer since it doesn’t seem like he and Z have been turned out with other mares and foals yet… and I know Mom wouldn’t do such a thing! Lane’s End probably repairs and then recycles the halters as the foals outgrow them.
I notice from the video that Z12 takes off on his left lead so I assume that’s his preference. What a lovely big paddock they have and how quickly he covers the ground without even half trying. He’s grown into an absolutely gorgeous young horse!
shirleeinindy
Randy, I think the tape is some sort of ID. Z12 and his chestnut friend both had it in previous pictures.
Randy
Hi shirlee,
Perhaps you’re right… the tape does seem to be in pretty much the same spot on all the halters. The next question then would be what kind of ID could it be since all the foals should have foal tags to identify which mares they belong to.
The next time they invite us to ask questions on this blog, I’ll try to remember to submit that one. I’m really curious now!
Hugs to you,
Randy

Judy,
Thank you so much for your comments. I always appreciate your kindness and encouraging and positive input. You show such love to everyone. I pray for you and everyone here on this website for many blessings from God.

Dear Judy B.,
I agree with you — very sad, indeed. It seems that our world becomes increasingly dysfunctional, I wish we were more like our fellow animals who share the earth with us. Unfortunately, I think the human animal is increasingly defective, alas; however, I still remain optimistic. Things have to get better. On the up side, we can come here to Zennyland, feel the love and be inspired.
Sympathetic thoughts and prayers for all the victims in Boston, and may the injured be blessed with complete healing in spirit and, as much as possible, in body, also. Rest in peace to those who have departed.
Thank you Judy, you are an angel. Hugs
Roberta
I’m not trying to be an alarmist, but there just seems to be something off. First, he long delay over pictures that the Mosses said themselves were going to be coming after that first weekend, because they would be visiting. Second, Zenyatta has been laying down a lot, and by the way her ears are, and the way she is holding her head, just doesn’t look like her, or the way she was after her first foal. Third, there has no videos or even pictures of them together outside, by now the last time, videos were all over the place. I think the foal looks great, and very bright, but I can’t say the same about Zenyatta. I pray I am wrong, but there are too many things not adding up. Even the last video of Zenny before she had the foal, she just looked a little down, like she just didn’t feel well. They know how much we all love her, maybe it’s not too bad, or she wouldn’t be there at the farm, but there seems to be something just a little off. I hope they don’t breed her right back, seeing that this was a late foal, they would have to breed her right off. What do others feel about all this?
By the way, I went to the link on Seattle Slew’s Belmont, and in the same place, found a documentary on him, but it also was about the race horse too; it was beautifully done, and worth watching! Love to all the Zenyatta family, a group of good caring people!!!!
Pati- Derby Dreaming
I think Z is fine. LE knows what they are doing and if they say she’s fine, I trust them 100%.
tony
I wouldn’t read anything into the latest news or pics of Zenny and 13Z. Zenny looks great to me…very content and in love with her new colt and motherhood in general. If anything was wrong, the Mosses would be right there with her. Remember, the news was infatuated with her and Rachael after thei first foals because they were their first.
So, don’t worry but enjoy the pics we are getting. We are so lucky to still have Zenny and her offspring in our lives.
Marshall (NC broad)
Tony,
Very well said. I totally agree. There Is a difference in the news about the First foal and the second one. There can only be one first baby.
I love the little red baby, and I do think he and Mama Z are very content.
Cheers
AJ from CA
Roberta – my take on the photos is that these were all taken immediately after Z13’s birth while Jerry and Ann were there which is why you see Z lying down. With the owners probably going home shortly afterwards, there may not have been anyone to do follow up shots of Z and babyZ13 – maybe due to lots of foaling going around? Just guessing but I’m sure all’s well at LE.
Zenyen
Roberta,
Zenyatta is not ‘down’ more than any other mare with a newborn.
I will try to say this as delicately as possible. Her bag is very tender. Laying down is a way for her to regulate Z13 nursing on her and making her udder irritated. Remember she is both milk source and pacifier to him and there comes a point when that tender flesh needs a break!
Especially early on until she toughens up a little due to his nursing.
These are very sweet pictures and I don’t want to steal that from anyone but reality is these are pictures of a happy, hardy colt, pestering his mother to stand up so he can get a snack and Zenyatta isn’t having it. That 8th frame picture is her telling him to be patient, she’ll get up when its lunch time but until then cool your jets sonny boy!
All mares with newborns go through this. These are the first lessons Z13 gets about horsey etiquette. Some mares would be a bit rougher in their lesson about ‘personal space’ but Zenyatta is getting the lesson across in a gentle, loving manner.
Darlene Daniels
Dear Zenyen,
I have learned so much from you. I really appreciate your knowledge and the gentle way you teach us. Thank you.

OMG! I remember nursing! I felt like a cow! I also felt a kindred sameness with every female mammal that has ever walked the Earth! I feel your discomfort Zenyatta! I think the photos of you and your beautiful colt take my breath away! Thanks to LE, the Mosses, and all of your people for keeping us in the loop!

Sheena. Very shocking that a hardworking horse who was only doing his job was punched. Thank God that Bud is okay and will be back to duty soon. He’s a beauty. Hope that you are okay as all of this kind of news both here and where you are is very upsetting.

Dear Sheena:
It’s very discouraging because this kind of violence is happening repeatedly. Whether it’s violent mob protests, shootings or bombings; it’s just so frustrating and sad. Glad the police horse wasn’t injured.

The update on our local news said that the problem in the Kennedy Library was due to a fire and thought to be unrelated to the explosions at the marathon. That would be the good news. The whole thing is shocking beyond belief. It’s dreadful to be wondering “what next?” So many things with large crowds have gone off without a hitch – it seems like someone was just waiting for a lull. dear max it can get very upsetting with all this sadness about what had bud done to anyone????so much hostility over here with the big funeral coming up on Wednesday no respect for the dead anymore and now all this again in boston I ask myself WHY???hugs sheena God bless you all
Max
Sheena. I hear you! It is all very upsetting. I read that Bud was stoic in the face of the assault and just kept to his training for doing his job. The paper said that this horse is very gentle and inquisitive and his favorite things are food and kisses. That is heart warming and is an example of how to live a decent life. Like I said to Judy, horses should run everything.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear sweet Bud — that’s a proper role model for all of us.
Glad he is okay. One thing is certain, though, horses and our other animal cousins have a much more well-developed “forgiveness gene” — homo sapiens would do well to emulate since we are too quick to carry grudges and that leads to trouble.
Take care!

It was quite beautiful. Has a statue of a horse on top and it is useful too, as it is actually a humidor for cigars. They even had the original wooden box it came in with the Tiffany logo inside. Hugs,JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy B.,
That makes the trophy even MORE wonderful! What a time that must have been — the early 20th century! I can just imagine the gentlemen having their cigars and brandy after dinner, and the ladies with their tea or sherry. Everyone would eventually mingle in the drawingroom — tres elegante.
The original wooden box in which it came — Tiffany logo, what a find.
Take care, dear friend. Hugs

Wow,Judy B. Glad you were tuned in to see it.
The Trophy display at the KY Horse Park is incredible. The kids had to pry me away. Great history in racing.
The trophy histories are very incredible. The Woodlawn vase had to be buried during the Civil War to insure it would not be melted. It is worth 4 million now!

Awesome love! Zenny, you are so in love with 13Z, and isn’t he so adoring of you … and adorable! I think he looks to be a VERY tall colt. Maybe even taller than his Momma! Will take awhile to grown into those long legs! And won’t that be something to look forward to in the years coming up?! … watching him and 12 Z RUN-N-N!
To everyone here in Zenny’s Family, I appreciate so much this fine family of friends that we have become over the past few years. I pray many of God’s blessings for your all, and keep you daily in my prayers.
It is so tragic and sad what happened today in Boston.
Will check to see if someone’s started a candle page, and will light one. Prayers, I think, are so important.
Am just beginning to read comments tonight. Not sure what the question about 13Z’s photos are about, but I think Zenny and her new foal are so beautiful and perfect – can it be more rewarding than this?!
I’ve only been able to catch snatches from the website over the past few weeks, so I know I’ve probably missed it, but has Dawn been on the website lately? Would love to read one of her amazing writings on the Vault. I’ll go over to her website as soon as I catch up on comments here tonight.
Thank you especially to Jerry and Ann Moss and everyone at Lane’s End for sharing so many wonderful photos and updates on Zenyatta and her foals. Alys and Kyle, your photos are always such wonderful ‘moments captured’ – thank you so much.
Love and many of God’s blessings to everyone here,

Just wanted to clarify for folks, that the picture referenced as a Super Saver by Tiznow was probably a typo, like I am prone to make more times than I can count using my fingers and toes.
It was Super Saver’s dam Supercharger that produced the Tiznow colt. She is at Hill n’ Dale and a daughter of AP Indy.
Super Saver and Tiznow are stabled at Winstar across from each other.

Sending prayers for those caught in the midst of the violence today in Boston. It appears that evil is on the upswing, with these tragedies comming more and more often. It is a true miracle that we have this blessed place to meet here and share with each other. Hugs to all, and good night, precious Z and “babies Z.”

Dear Keta:
My Russ and I used to go to Boston every week in the 70’s and 80’s. We would go to dinner at the Top of the Pru or the Polynesian Restaurant in the Sheraton Hotel or sometimes the Copley Plaza’s Fox and Hounds and visit Faneuil Hall Market Place. Also loved to catch a Yankees’ game at Fenway Park. Love that city; lots of great memories. Hugs, JB

As Black Caviar made her way back to Melbourne after thrilling Sydney racegoers with her win in Saturday’s TJ Smith Stakes, her half brother All Too Hard travelled in the opposite direction to resume his autumn campaign.
The star colt was ruled out of last month’s Australian Guineas with a temperature after claiming Group One wins in the weight-for-age C F Orr Stakes and the Futurity Stakes.
He arrived in Sydney on Monday and is scheduled to have a barrier trial on Friday then run in the All Aged Stakes (1400m) on Saturday week.
