Happy Sunday!
We can’t believe 13Z was born almost two weeks ago. We hear from the great people at Lane’s End that he and his mom are happy and healthy.
Alys sent us a few close-ups of the little one out in the paddock this week, and we wanted to share those along with some more photos from our last trip. We’ll be heading back to the farm in a week to visit Zenyatta and both of her colts (and to take lots of photos!).
And don’t forget 12Z! Here’s a video we shot on a gray morning during our last trip. Watch him take off across the paddock to join the rest of his herd.
Enjoy!

As Zenny would say (and well she should): “Too Cute! Too Cute!”
Two Cuties! Thanks for sharing Mama and the Boys.

Hello; I have a question. Will Zenyatta’s sons ever race, or can’t risk injury? Will They just be used for breeding (AI)? Also, have they selected sires from different bloodlines to breed Zenyatta to? Cecil Baker Fort Wayne, In.
Cynthia Hahn
It is my understanding from reading the Jockey Club Rules that Thoroughbreds can’t be conceived using AI. Has to be live cover.
zenyen
Zenyatta’s offspring will be given their chance on the track. The Mosses are breeding them with an eye towards racing. If they do not take to that career then they will be kept and loved by the Mosses regardless.
Please understand that while those who post on this board love Zenyatta, the fact that these colts are her sons does not automatically put them in the breeding shed. If they do not perform on the track or show something worth breeding on then they will not be bred. If they are breed worthy Cynthia is correct, AI is not allowed by the Jockey Club.
Zenyatta is special to us but from a genetic standpoint her bloodlines are accessible through other sources. Her colts are precious to us and to the Mosses but they do not require being wrapped in bubble wrap and protected from life. As the song goes, they will take their chance and dance the dance.
Eileen
If they are mediocre racers it seems to me they will still make it to the breeders shed. An example of this is genuine reward who breeds polo ponies. Also Nicanor and Lentenor are now stallions. It sometimes turns out that less than champion horses are great stallions. I think bloodlines count for a lot. I hope both of our boys get a chance to breed. Personally I think they will both do well at the track. I love them.
zenyen
I suppose it depends upon what they show on the track or whatever discipline they pursue. True, its not all about winning races, there will be the question of talent, heart, soundness.
Personally I don’t believe on breeding on bloodlines alone. Not when those bloodlines are available through other, proven, sources. It is unlikely that every single one of Zenyatta’s colts will be worth breeding. Given the strength of her female family, it would be her fillies who would be wanted in broodmare bands.
With the state of unwanted horses what it is, I feel her colts should definitely prove themselves in some venue (racing, sport horses, etc) before they are allowed to make 100+ babies a year.

Dear Zenyen,
Good morning to you, love your posting, so full of love, it is palpable.
Have a wonderfully Blessed day. It is well.

How sweet, thank you for sharing these latest pictures. 12Z will always be remembered as Zenyatta’s first baby and pictures of Ann in the hay with him. Brings a tear to my eyes. 13Z will be remembered as begin born on his mothers birthday and looking very much like “Big Red”.
We must remember they are completely different and will do their own thing.
I wonder if John will stop by and visit Zenyatta on his way to NY.
Thank you Lanes End for the wonderful care, Ann and Jerry for their understanding of her fans wanting to know all about her life , still. and keeping us informed about the new ones. Thanks to Team Zenyatta and all
Love hugs and kissed
Mary
She loves Ann and Jerry too!

The love in her eyes when she is with Ann and Jerry should make even the most hardened cynic realize that animals like humans show their souls in their eyes.

What a way to start my week, I have been away from my computer this weekend so I just saw the update. Thank You Ann and Jerry, and Team Z for the update. 12Z is really growing up, should be going to Fl. before long to start training. 13Z is quite the handsome young man. Zenny looks great, she always looks so happy when Ann is with her. Does anyone know if John will still be training most of the Ann and Jerrys horses when he moves to New York ?
evy
Beautiful horses….thank you for sharing!

I think 13z is turning grey, which wouldn’t surprise me with him being a Tapit colt. I think 12z looks alot like his grand dam Vertigineux. Have been waiting to see updated pictures of these two fellas and their mother. They are all exquisite creatures that are not only treasured by the Mosses but by racing fans all over. Thank you Jerry and Ann for sharing with us and thank you Lane’s End for taking such good care of them.

John says he will be a gray.

Thank you so much LE and Team Z, we’ve all been salivating since the birth to see more pics…….and then to get a video…….life is sweet again.
Beautiful pics, Zenny looks sooooo happy it makes my heart burst with joy for her. She shows her emotion in her eyes. What a doll he is and has that “little stinker” look about him just like Z12.
And we could never forget about Z12 he’s gorgeous. He looks so much like Zenny and grandma it’s amazing.
Kisses on all three noses love Auntie Sue

I think 13z will stay chestnut, at least from what I’m seeing in these pictures. I really hope so……..judging by his muzzle, possibly a dark chestnut. We’ll all find out once his foal coat sheds.
12Z is a handsome young man. It has been fun watching him grow up. Thank you to Ann and Jerry for keeping us Zen fans looped in.

Wow Mom and baby both look great. I love his coloring. Thank you for sharing this pictures with us.
Karen in Indiana
She has turned out to be quite the mom! She looks very satisfied with life and that is wonderful to see. Thank you again so much for continuing to share her with us.
12Z looks like he takes after Zenyatta a little more than this one does – does he look more like Tapit? Can you tell yet if he’s going to gray out or not? When would you be able to tell?

Really weird….saw article on either bloodhorse or drf that said Mikey will ride Palice Malice in derby….went back to post it to thread on forum side and it was gone….the whole article just disappeared …spooky

It is on drf.com and http://www.paulickreport.com/news/triple-crown/smith-to-ride-palace-malice-in-ky-derby/

thanks Amanda…I saw it finally came back …knew I wasn’t that far gone that I imagined the whole thing….but at my age…ya gotta wonder

Good morning to all my Z nation family, a Blessed day is wished all.
To the Queen and her adorable Princes, top of the morning, here is wishing you all a Blissful day and much love.
Good luck to Mikey on Palace Malice, love that name.
Wishing good health to all especially Jericho, it is well.

This has definitely made my day. Thanks so much for the beautiful pictures of our Queen and her royal baby. They are so peaceful and loving. I had to play Z12’s video twice before I realized it was the Prince. He is growing so nicely. Best to all of the Z team. May all of the mares be so lucky as our Queen.
maureen phi-llips
Has anyone taken a look at Prince Seniors dad, Prince has some striking resemblance to him. His gait, his brooding handsomeness, his eyes and his hips!, am in love!, but then, Prince ZB is much loved by me, its sickening. LOL.
maureen phi-llips
Me again, the young Prince ZT not only has his mama’s blaze, but is a true mama’s boy!, how cute. Love is in the air and I am smitten by the Queen and her brood. Lol.
Kimberly Potter
@Maureen~ He really is a mama’s boy isn’t he? I noticed that too! Very opposite of Z12 who was so independant.
Thank you Lane’s End and Team Z for the new photos and all that you share with us. I just don’t know what I would do if I could not be a part of Zenyatta’s life!
Love and HUGZzz to All from Montana~

z13 is looking so cute and z12 is just getting so big :)
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@ Zenyen–thank you for saying that. We see far too many horses with good bloodlines ending up in the slaughter pipeline. Most owners are not as conscientious as the Mosses. It is heartbreaking. And they have no idea (the horses) what they have done “wrong”.
Abigail_1849
Good afternoon Zenny, Z13, Z12 and fellow Zen-sters!
Spring has finally come to Montreal and what better way to celebrate than with new photos and video. The little guy sure looks grey to me around the muzzle, although I’d love to see a chestnut … reminds me of Secretariat, that deep, rich coat colour. And our Big Boy: I agree with those who see Zen’s side of the family even more strongly than we did when he was a baby. Both of these lads have their mother’s soft, gentle eye though.
Glad to hear that Team Z will be back near the end of the month to keep tabs on how baby is growing up, as well as visiting Zenny and Z12.
Interesting chat about their futures if they turn out to be “mediocre.” As far as I’m concerned, their bloodlines are impeccable and we always should remember that it may well take more than one generation of Zenyatta’s family line to get to another mega-star like Zenny. Or even longer.
That being said, it seems to me that they would both be too valuable to not at least try a sample mating period, although getting the right mares would be a challenge if they’re lack-lustre on the track. I mean, Sadler’s Wells was a very good colt but not nearly as brilliant as other Northern Dancers, and he became a sire of sires whose influence is still felt as recently as Frankel. And there have been fabulous runners who didn’t do much in the breeding shed.
My hope for Zenny and so many other great mares just off the track in the last few years is that they have the breeding “staying power” of the amazing Personal Ensign. Failing that, let each produce at least one super sire, as was the case with a triad of Secretariat’s daughters (Gone West by Secrettame, A.P. Indy & Summer Squall by Weekend Surprise and Storm Cat by Terlingua)! Another daughter, Betty’s Secret, foaled Epsom Derby winner Secreto but her best son was unquestionably the brilliant hurdler, Istabraq (a gelding).
But my private belief is that Zenny is very like her own dam and V. is certainly a Blue Hen.
Thank you, thank you for the photos & video, Team Z! I was beginning to fear that you were weaning us and, I must say, I would have acted up at any attempt to tear me away from my beloved Zenny…..
Love & hugs to all.
maureen phi-llips
Dear Abigal-1849,
love your posting. Amen to all you said. I sometimes wish we would just let them be babies for now before we start the stress thing going. Whatever they will be will be, it is well and we love them. LOL.

Dear Abigail:
You’re so right; it’s just not predictable. The potential for Z’s babies is so great, but we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, they are so loved by all of us no matter what. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Amen Abigail, We cannot expect the boys to reach the status of their mom. She is one in a million and it will be many years before we see her likes again,if ever. That being said, the boys can have very nice careers and be good racers without reaching her heights. We know that the Mosses will look after them and provide for them no matter what.
maryp ny
Abigail,
I do agree and thank you for your recaps of the past. We only care that the boys will stay sound and happy during their lives. We hope they have respectable racing careers.
By the way, have you or anyone you know heard anything about momma V? It seems as though some word should be available about her. Bloodhorse or DRF or HRTV or some media outfit should be curious about a full sibling to Zenny! I can’t help but wonder about it!
Hugs,
Maryp

Drat, Calvin to ride Revolutionary. I was hoping for Rosie or Mike. Calvin is a great jockey but at times appear a little fond of the whip. I am sure WinStar chose who they felt would best fit the horse.

both colts look great.. who do you plan to breed zenny to this year. I am hoping for a fiilly.

Hi all, its me yet again, been meaning to ask this question, what was the Queen saying to the young Prince in frame 8 of the photo’s. Can anyone guess?.

Dear Zenyen,
You take the cake, excellent answer. Have a Blessed Peaceful night. Praying for all of Boston especially the injured and their loved one’s. Those who lost their lives, may they be in the Lords Peace and presence. It is well. LOL.
