Ann Visits Kentucky, June 2018

It was a pleasure to be able to spend time with Zenyatta and see her doing so well. She was looking so good and, most importantly, happy! It was especially great to visit with some of her longtime friends Claudia and Julio, who never missed a race. There was lots of joy to be shared, and of course a few carrots :)

We also were able to visit with Coz, and what a special experience that was. I have always wanted to sit atop Zenyatta, not even hoping to ride her, but never got the chance. There I was, with Isabela and Sergio‘s kind suggestions and help, riding Coz!! It was absolutely thrilling and such a joy…something I had never even dreamed!

He continues to do so well in his new life and they are very excited about his coming competition in the Thoroughbred Makeover this October 5-7. I am so hoping to be there and cheer him on. It is absolutely wonderful to see him soooo relaxed and happy and actually “jumping” in joy.

    Congrats to my sweet Muchie (Mucho Macho Man.) His kids are burning up the track as 2 year olds. So happy to see his success as a sire! Kathy R trained one of his promising fillies who gutted out a very close race.

    Hope the storm doesn’t cause too much trouble, but please stay safe. Will keep you in thoughts and prayers. ?

    I watched the FEI/WEG team jumping competition last night. Sweden and the US had to have a jump-off due to a tied score. That was really exciting! Team USA managed to win the gold — Congratulations to the US team and to all participants! Sweden got silver and Germany got the bronze. Switzerland came in fourth.

    I am so happy and thrilled for you, Ann, and Zenyatta and Coz to be with you. Love never ends with Z and you and Coz too.

    Hi all Zsters. The summer has gone by so quickly and indeed it was a busy summer.
    Just had to drop a line to say Hello and tell you of my latest news.
    As old as I am I never thought I’d become a grandma again, but I surely will be. My one son and his wife are having twin girls!!! Babies are due January but I was told they could be sooner as around Christmas.
    Only one horse Jo and two goats remain at the CV horse sanctuary where I still volunteer.
    It at times is a bittersweet feeling going there because of so many past memories as to how it once was. Our dear Fancy’s heart gave out at the age of 36 this spring and I expect to hear Fancy nickering each time I come. I miss her.
    I hope every one is doing well and enjoying life and good health.

      Good to see a post from you — we have missed you. Congratulations on the future new grandchildren — wow, twin girls!

      I am glad Jo and the goats are still getting your love and care. I know Fancy’s last years were happy and brightened because you were there for her and of course for Sir, too.

        Thank you for also remembering my Sir. You and Judy are so sweet. Without Sir it was so lonely but as time went on and Frito left us, Fancy became a gem. I loved them all, but Frito and Fancy were so bonded during a number of years that it’s all they wanted at the time. There has always been something special about each horse, but surprisingly Fancy won my heart since Sir was gone and it was so sad for me to arrive that day when she was down with her looking at me and nickering to me. Fancy never suffered as the vet arrived to check her out. Fancy was not injured but with her heart, she could not get up. I will always remember saying good bye as she looked at me. I am happy I happen to be the one that day so I could tell her I loved her and all would be okay. Love n hugs

          I need windshield wipers for my eyes. I am glad that you were there to comfort Fancy and lovingly bid farewell. I am quite sure that Sir and Frito were waiting for her. ? RIP dear Fancy.

      Glad you fared well with the remnants of Florence.

      I watched the individual show jumping at FEI/WEG yesterday. Really exciting — what monster jumps they had to conquer! Big Congrats to Simone Blum and Alice of Germany for winning the gold — Blum is the first woman to win gold in this event. She and Alice are brilliant together.

      I also watched the driving competition. Beautiful teams of 4 horses pulling carriages through a very challenging course. The Netherlands emerged victorious. Congrats!
      I haven’t had the opportunity to see this type of competition before — very interesting and lovely to see.

      Thanks for the article on Good Magic. I trust he has recovered from the condition that occurred (wasn’t it high white blood cell count?). He is such a gorgeous boy. Wishing him all good things for the rest of his life, especially lots of love and good health.

      As a big fan of Good Magic, I wish him the very best in his career as a stud. I do hate to see all of these 3 year olds retiring. Of course, the health of the horse has to come first but it is hard to be a fan with so many not going on to 4 and 5. Thank goodness for the geldings and the mares.

        I love this beautiful Chestnut son of Curlin too. He always gave his all. That’s why his performance in the Travers was worrisome. Hope he recovers completely and enjoys his retirement. We will have to follow his babies in two years time.

    It was wonderful to see Her Majesty looking beautiful and regal as always. She looks so healthy and content in her paddock. I would love to see her bred to Medaglia D’ Oro! Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you Ann for sharing and this wonderful blog.

    I will never forget Sprinter’sglorious return in 2015/16 season and Sir Henry’s emotional reaction to Light Shift’s win in the 2007 Oaks.Our beloved trainer was back.Sir Henry died 8 months after Frankel retired.He knew his work was done.

    Irish War Cry’s retirement did not come as a total shock but was hoping to see him at Churchill this fall. Good health and happiness to him.

    I am so thankful to the teams of Chrome and Muchie for letting them continue to race after 3. They provided so much fun and pure joy to their fans. Their foals are showing that the wait was worth it.
