Happy Monday!
We thought it would be nice to start the week with photos from last week’s visit to Lane’s End. Ann and Jerry went to see Zenyatta and her colt with bags of carrots in tow. Both Z and her son are doing well, enjoying the crisp Kentucky fall air. Zenyatta is healthy and happy, and 12Z is growing fast!
Enjoy!

Ann Moss is one of a kind ! I met her at the Breeder’s Cup at the Zenyatta party. She took the time to listen to me and how much we all love Z ! She took to time to find out about me. I went back to school for nursing and she encounged me and even told me that she tries to be like Zenyatta everyone !

It’s over $1800 now with 5 days left in the auction. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford it. :-( There are some other nice items, though.
I wish someone would do a “see Zenyatta” raffle rather than an auction. I could afford to buy a few raffle tickets. I’m sure a lot of us would have a better chance of winning a raffle than of being able to spend several thousand dollars on an auction.

What wonderful pics! The Mosses are such great horse people. You can tell how much they love those horses. And look at the size of Z12! What a beautiful boy! And, of course, seeing Queen Z makes my day . . . thanks so much!

WHAT A BLESSING THESE PICTURES ARE!!! I feels as though I’d received a personal Christmas card from the Moss family!!! What a wonderful gift to us all!! A couple of them remind me of the promise Ann made me as we were walking out of the party after the BC. I had asked her if she would give Zenny a special hug from all of us Dumplings the next time she visited—and she smiled and said”I literally will!” I like to think that one of these pictures is her doing exactly THAT! Thanks to all who made our receipt of these priceless treasures possible!!
Wish I’d been able to have a video of our visit to Barnaby and Traveller this past Saturday–it was like a rodeo–and I was the clown!!!The ground down south had frozen,so they were no longer having mud in part of their pasture–and they had rolled in their house enough that the last of the previous week’s mud had finally left their coats. While grooming Barnaby I kept telling him how great he looked and what a good boy he was to have kept himself so clean–all the while teasing him about having to braid his coat,as it had grown out even more! After I had de-tangled his tail and cleaned his feet and all,I got him all tacked up and led him out into the arena. As he sometimes does,he fidgeted at staying still at his mounting block,as though telling me that he didn’t want me to get on. I kept leading him in a circle and trying again, also, trying to move the block itself to accomodate him. Each time I would step up on the green plastic block,he would move off again. I never get cross with him when he does this, just try to “jolly” him into thinking it is all OK. Finally,Tom said,”I think you’d better lunge him to get some of his excess energy out.” I knotted up his reins and used one of Tom’s lunge lines. At first,Barnaby just stood next to me and didn’t appear to want to move out. I finally got him to trot in a sort of circle. All at once he just TOOK OFF!! It was SO funny–the rope was flying through my fingers and,as he started cantering,I kept holding on,thinking I would get him going in a big cantering circle. It was not to be–he accelerated again and the rope came to it’s end—with a big knot!!! Of course, hitting the knot threw me forward–luckily,Barnaby’s strength and momentum tore the knot from my hand–but not until it had pulled me forward and off-balance. I was headed for a flying face-plant in the soft dirt of the arena! Luckily–I am pretty nimble of foot so I was able to stumble forward in a very awkward way and finally get my feet under me so that I didn’t fall. It must have looked hilarious!! After he felt himself free of the rope,he REALLY took off–bucking and carrying on like a bronc at the real rodeo!! He tore around the ring about twice, looking so funny in his fancy english saddle! I was worried about him stepping on the rope and hurting himself but he was fine. He finally stopped himself and I caught him easily and decided that was enough fun for one day and untacked him–just laughing at him and telling him I wasn’t mad. Tom said that what I should do from now on is let him into the arena first just to romp and play and roll and then groom and tack him up. His comment was,”that ground in his pasture is frozen now—if you were going to play, would you want to [play on cement in the middle of the street,or,would you like to play in your sandbox?”..I can hardly wait to go see him next Saturday and turn him loose in the arena to play to his hearts content. I will go in and play with him and chase him around –there is nothing more beautiful than an un-fettered horse, just running and “being a horse!”. Hopefully,he’ll play until he gets tired enough that he won’t mind being ridden, but,if not,OK–just want him to have fun and be happy, whatever we are doing together!! Will let you know how it all goes.
Sue groomed Traveller and put the saddleblanket with girth on,she didn’t seem to mind that too much. Tom had some ideas for her to try as we were leaving. So she’ll probably try them.
Will keep you posted on how next week goes and what fun Mr. Barnaby has. He is so amazing–after he was “tack free”,he was as gentle as a kitten and so happy to have his treats and just stand by me to be loved!!
A blessed and peaceful night to all–Hugs!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks for another great story Sue – so glad that you didn’t fall and hurt yourself. Having never even imagined trying to get on a horse, the whole process seems to me like a very complex issue. Hope your plan works better next week. Did you get the photos???????

Sue: I am laughing so hard I am crying all over again! I had visions of YOUR hair needing detangling and you being brushed out! Wheeee! I’m going to get Hoot one of those big balls to play with in his paddock. Do Barnaby and Traveller have them?

Dear Sue:
Really enjoy your wonderful witty and descriptive stories about Barnaby.
Quite a character. Glad you were able to keep yourself upright. You’re so right. Nothing more joyful to watch than a horse running free. Sounds like Traveller is doing better. So glad. Love and Hugs, JB

I don’t see any of Bernardini in him at all now, he looks just like Zenyatta. He finally grew into his ears and is just the most handsome guy. He’s out of that gangly stage and is just too beautiful. I can’t wait to see him as a 3 or 4 year old.
Rosanne Glynn
The pictures are beautiful!! Baby Z got so big and he looks like a sweetie! Zen is gorgeous as ever! I love her and wish her the best!

Oh my, I just love these pictures of Ann and Jerry with Zenyatta and Baby Z!! Zenny looks so happy to see them! She clearly recognizes and responds to them. Love that. As for Baby Z, he is growing into one handsome boy. I can’t believe how much he has grown!

Hi Zen-sters!
Wow! I guess we were all waiting for a new Zenny blog with pictures of OUR GIRL and Z-12 because it’s only 6:55 pm here in Montreal and you’ve all already written a whole 5 pages!!!!!
Many thanks to the Mosses and LE for feeding the passion that unites.
I never tire of seeing beautiful Zenny and she sure looks ready for winter, keeping baby warm in her fuzzy coat. The love that shines in her expressive eyes when Ann is close to her is so beautiful.
What REALLY surprised me was to see how much bigger Z-12 is — WOW! He’s done so much growing since last March that it’s just incredible. He still reminds me of Zenny but looks like he’s in his “adolescent” stage now. It will be so EXCITING to see him at a year on his true birthday. I’m waiting to see if he gets that distinctive “Bernie” look — all Bernie’s babies seem stamped in a similar way. But he is just stunning, even as a gangly teenager.
Love and hugs to my Zen-ster family, peppermint kisses to you, sweet Zenny and your handsome son!

I do not envy much in this life – but I envy the Mosses relationship with Zenyatta. My boy is ‘such a guy’ he does do displays of affection. Zenyatta is a most remarkable being. What a gift to know this remarkable remarkable mare.

Whew! My breath has been taken away. I have had an ear to ear grin since getting on this blog about half hour ago. I agree with everything everyone else has said–not very original, but there it is! THANK YOU!!!! It really is a holiday card!!

Celeste in TX, sure hope you are feeling better. As an Rx for you and anyone not feeling well, Dr. Anne suggests reviewing these photos several times a day. Does not matter if you take food or water while doing so. (Aww, go ahead, review them even if you feel good!–there that should cover us all.) High hoof to the Mosses!

Thanks, Anne, that’s exactly why I’m back here enjoying these photos again! They make my heart smile.

A beautiful lady and the love of her horse! Nothing can match the love that Ann has for Zenyatta and the love Zenyatta gives her in return. These pictures bought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for the update and pictures.

Dear Judy Berube
Didn’t know if you had seen or not. Gabby had a workout last week at Calder. Did you know that she won her race last month. She came in first. Woo Hoo. So proud of her. So excited. That’s my girl. She’s going to make her Dad proud. I wonder if she will race this month,as her breeze was Dec 4.. Sure wish I could get Calder races.
I bet you she’s going to be even a lots better next year at 3.
Peggy (N) South Georgia

Was that the race you were telling me about last month that you were going to try and get a copy of the race. I think I got confused. I was thinking for some reason she came in 2nd, but she did win. Sorry. There’s a couple of people at work that talk about the races too. I think I got it mixed up. So glad she won.

Dear Peggy:
Have had no luck getting a call back from Calder regarding their having videos of races for sale. Will try again today. Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have been so down still trying to deal with the fact that I need a heart transplant when I just had a kidney transplant last year and just trying to hang on to some sort of what my life used to be. I have been really sick for over six years now and I just turned 40 and I have been having a really hard time with all of this, so I come to Zenyatta’s website for inspiration and oh my goodness did I get a big surprise tonight! Just seeing her with Ann and all of the love you can so plainly see between them just made my bad heart feel a little better! And omg I can not believe how big 12Z is!!! Love, love, love his long legs and oh, those ears!!! He just has the sweetest face like his mama! So thank you to everyone involved for bringing all of us Zenyatta fans so many wonderful and beautiful pictures!!! I love you sweet girl! And your cute boy too! :)

Dear Lanes End and Team Z,
Thanks so very much for these lovely photos of The Mosses, Zenny (love the one
of Ann stroking Zenny’s belly), where the new foal resides, and the ones of
12 Z are precious, he is getting to look more like “grandma” “V”, with is star and special
“upper lip action”. He is sooo big and gentle at least in the photos and love those
carrots.
WHAT A SPECIAL HOLIDAY GIFT, THANKS TO ALYS FOR THE WONDERFUL PHOTOS
