Happy Monday!
We thought it would be nice to start the week with photos from last week’s visit to Lane’s End. Ann and Jerry went to see Zenyatta and her colt with bags of carrots in tow. Both Z and her son are doing well, enjoying the crisp Kentucky fall air. Zenyatta is healthy and happy, and 12Z is growing fast!
Enjoy!

Animal Kingdom to Stand in Australia in 2013
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Thursday, December 13, 2012 5:17 PM
A majority interest in the breeding rights of champion Animal Kingdom, winner of the 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) for Team Valor International, has been acquired by John Messara’s Australia-based Arrowfield Stud
The son of Leroidesanimaux will begin his stud career in Australia next September and will likely shuttle to the Northern Hemisphere beginning in 2014. According to statistics, Animal Kingdom will be the first Kentucky Derby winner to start his stud career in Australia.
The deal is subject to Animal Kingdom passing importation protocols, which involve blood work that should be finalized in the next few days.
The 20 Team Valor International partners will maintain a significant interest in Animal Kingdom’s stud career. Most recently a runner-up to Wise Dan in the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I), Animal Kingdom is slated to contest the Feb. 9 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (gr. I) as a prep for the $10-million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) March 31.
Following the World Cup, Animal Kingdom, who is out of the Acatenango mare Dalicia, will be flown from Dubai to England and considered for an additional start, possibly at Royal Ascot in June.
“Animal Kingdom excites us as a rare kind of athlete with a truly international pedigree who is able to express his class on a range of surfaces,” said Messara in a statement. “He is already rated among the world’s elite turf milers and has the potential to become a global superstar in 2013.”

Animal Kingdom wins the 2011 Kentucky Derby.
A majority interest in the breeding rights of champion Animal Kingdom, winner of the 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) for Team Valor International, has been acquired by John Messara’s Australia-based Arrowfield Stud.
The son of Leroidesanimaux out of the Acatenango mare Dalicia will begin his stud career in Australia next September and will likely shuttle to the Northern Hemisphere beginning in 2014.
I) as a prep for the $10 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) March 31.
Following the World Cup, Animal Kingdom is to be flown from Dubai to England and considered for an additional start, possibly at Royal Ascot in June.
“Animal Kingdom excites us as a rare kind of athlete with a truly international pedigree who is able to express his class on a range of surfaces,” said Messara in a statement. “He is already rated among the world’s elite turf milers and has the potential to become a global superstar in 2013.”
Team Valor CEO Barry Irwin has fielded a stream of offers for Animal Kingdom’s stud career ever since the Kentucky Derby, in which he prevailed by 2 3/4 lengths as the first horse to conquer the classic in his initial start on dirt. He stands to be the only Derby-winning stallion prospect to race as a 5-year-old since Silver Charm, who scored in the 1997 Run for the Roses.
“Originally it was our intention to race Animal Kingdom for the entire 2013 season,” Irwin said in a release. “However, the prospect of getting the support of John Messara’s Arrowfield Stud in the Southern Hemisphere was so meaningful that I advised my partners to sublimate their fun and take the deal.
“It is critically important to get a history-making stallion master behind a new prospect and in John Messara we have that. He has developed two of the world’s most successful sires in Danehill and his son, Redoute’s Choice. No way was I going to pass up this opportunity.”
Robin Bruss of Northfields Bloodstock brokered the deal.
Team Valor will form broodmare partnerships to breed to Animal Kingdom, with the plan of selling and racing his offspring around the globe.
Trained by Graham Motion, Animal Kingdom is a graded stakes winner on both dirt and synthetic surfaces. The colt entered the BC Mile off a 259-day layoff and finished in front of the prominent European horses Excelebration and Moonlight Cloud.
Animal Kingdom also finished second in the 2011 Preakness Stakes (gr. I). He has finished first or second in eight of his nine career starts, the lone exception coming in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) when he was sandwiched after the break and nearly went down, leading to eight months on the sidelines with an injury. He has earned $2,327,500.

MARKETWATCH, BLOODHORSE: AP INDY SIRE LINE LOSES LEADING HEIR PULPIT
A.P. Indy Sire Line Loses Leading Heir Pulpit
12 Dec 2012 9:26 AM
(By Avalyn Hunter)
Claiborne’s famed stallion cemetery now has one more tenant. If Pulpit was not the equal of the likes of Nijinsky II, Danzig, and Mr. Prospector as a sire, he nonetheless had an honorable record. Through his son Tapit (currently fourth on the general sire list), he has also succeeded in securing the future of the Seattle Slew/A.P. Indy sire line for another generation and perhaps even establishing his own branch, no small accomplishment in itself. Other sons, most notably Sky Mesa and Stroll, have sired some good runners, and Corinthian is currently seventh on the second-crop sire list.
Somewhat surprisingly given his own beautiful pedigree and the quality of the mares that he saw, Pulpit has not yet made the splash as a broodmare sire that might have been expected. But he has been represented this year as a maternal grandsire by Ashland Stakes (gr. I) winner Karlovy Vary, multiple grade II winner Newsdad, and Canadian grade II winner Imboundtoscore. Given that Pulpit’s eldest daughters are only 13, there are bound to be more where those came from.
With two sons of Pulpit (Parading and Stroll) on its roster, Pulpit will not soon be forgotten at Claiborne, nor will the farm be in any hurry to rush out and secure a successor. Nonetheless, his loss will be felt in the months to come. May he rest well in greener pastures than even Kentucky offers.

Contentious CashCall Futurity Set Saturday
By Jack Shinar The Blood-Horse
Updated: Thursday, December 13, 2012 3:54 PM
He’s Had Enough, who missed by a head winning the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) last month, and Nashua Stakes (gr. II) victor Violence square off against a quartet from the Bob Baffert barn in the $750,000 CashCall Futurity (gr. I) Dec. 12 at Betfair Hollywood Park
Eleven 2-year-olds are entered in what shapes up as a terrific running of the final major 2-year-old test of the year nationally. Contested at 1 1/16 miles on the Cushion Track, the CashCall Futurity is part of a program that includes the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IIT). The Futurity is the ninth on the penultimate card of the 2012 autumn meet with a probable post time of 4:35 p.m. PST.
Baffert has won three of the past four CashCall Futurity renewals and has captured a record six overall (the race was previously known as the Hollywood Futurity). The Hall of Fame conditioner will be represented this year by stakes winners Den’s Legacy, Carving, and Really Mr Greely, as well as Title Contender. Baffert decided to start all four colts after each worked extremely well Dec. 9 and 10 at Santa Anita Park.
The Baffert-trained Really Mr Greely was an impressive gate-to-wire winner of the seven-furlong Hollywood Prevue (gr. III) Nov. 22 at odds of 11-1, earning a 98 Beyer speed figure, the best in this year’s Futurity field. Owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, the son of Horse Greeley will need to answer the distance question this time, having never been longer than seven furlongs. The Kentucky-bred colt has won his past two starts and will be ridden for the first time by Mike Smith

Keta and All the Z-Peeps:
Terrible sad day in CT, we are in complete morning, 18 children possibly a whole kindergarten class has died. Along with 9 adults, well 8 if you don’t count the gunman.
Please say a prayer or lite a candle for these children and their parents during this horrific time,. The news is saying it was a young parent who brought such horror to this beautiful small town in our great state, it has just also been reported that they went to the shooter’s home and found another dead body.
I can only imagine what these parents are going through, several years ago my daughter was taken hostage in her classroom by an emotionally disturbed child, I was at work when by boss gave me the news (because I was too busy to take the call myself), I ran out of my office like my hair was on fire, I drove like a lunatic even though I worked close to my daughter’s elementary school, what a scene when I got there, police, firemen, teachers and kids, all outside. The young boy about 7 or 8 was not armed or considered dangerous, just frustrated and angry at the teacher, my daughter and this boy were friends, so I truly believed he didn’t want to hurt her, and he didn’t. My daughter had learning disabilities, and so did this boy, but this particular teacher only liked the “gifted” and smart kids, not the ones that maybe needed a little extra help or attention. (This was the only teacher my daughter ever had that I really didn’t like) I know there are a lot of teacher’s on this site, I have nothing but respect and admiration for all of you, but sometimes, teachers and students don’t mess well. (This was one of those times!)
With a very heavy heart my deepest sympathy to all the families in Newtown, CT.

It’s one of the brothers, the other died in front of the school. A columnist on BBC Reports that everyone in the gunman’s mother’s class was killed. It’s not his 24 year brother because he is in custody at the Newtown Police Dept. Confirmed it is the shooter’s mother and possibly another? They are being very tight lipped. Too much to sort out with 2 crime scenes. Our state has cancelled almost everything state wide, from tree lighting, to plays, to parties. Flags flying at half mask already! No celebrating in this state anytime soon.
GirlSaratoga
Pati-Waiting for the holidays!
I wouldn’t celebrate either. I read on BBC that one of the brothers died at the school? Is maybe this the brother they are talking about, and perhaps he escaped before the bedlam broke out? Either way, mother was killed in her home, and now a mystery body in another house. This thing has committed two taboos, it killed it’s mother, and innocent children. How horrible, and devastating. Drains you of all your energy.

Today has felt too much like Columbine. You think you overcome all the despair to find it’s just under the surface. I found a candle site in the gratefulness candles that has been set up if anyone cares to visit.

Marty R:
Thanks for finding the candle site and posting it. Our Gov. has asked that we turn our porch lights on for all who died in today’s school shooting, so they may find their way home. I will still lite a candle here too.
Thanks Again

Sign, I can’t take credit for the candle site. I hunted around the Gratefulness Candles and finally found a search term that worked. As much as I like the candles, you would think I would know how to set up a candle site, but I don’t.

Thanks, Marty. I lit a candle.
