April 17 Cherokee Devotional
We want to do the right thing, say the right thing, be the right person. We try to be in tune with life, to find harmony within to blend with all that surrounds us. It just seems that so much has been borrowed from us-time, concern, spirit-until we cry for restoration. Like children, we want to ask, “Are we happy yet?” Is there a time of rhythm and order and an even beat, so that we may walk without running, laugh without tears, care without fear of giving too much? Yes, beyond the slightest doubt we can renew and we can overcome the feeling of being totally taxed to despair. Speak to yourself, said the little Cherokee grandmother. Tell yourself you are u wo du hi, fine looking, and your surroundings will see it and want you to be happy. In other words, change your attitude and the world will respond.
Why do you take by force what you could obtain by love?

Dear Kathy.Am not sure if this link will work but it’s the Famous Lady on her nest with her 2 eggs, she laid another yesterday at about 2am.All is quiet on the Dyfi so far!The Observatory will be open soon,it’s really beautiful.Poor Fubu, his groomer didn’t call Momma after his haircut and the dogs scared him!I don’t honestly know how to describe his haircut! He’s very excited about his 5,000 friends and all before his birthday.Zoe is such a precious little dog wise beyond her years I was thinking of the youngsters in South Korea indeed we should always hug the ones we love.
Poor Marty is worn out after his taxes I hope he’s got enough money for his yogis!Great name Z13 such a tribute to his mum who’s keeping us all waiting an Easter child how lovely.Hugs to you Kisses for Holly Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Dear Sheena,
Yes! It worked!. Well done, Lady. What beautiful eggs. Glad for the quiet on the Dyfi. I would sure love to visit the Observatory. Maybe one day…I was sorry to read that Fubu had to wait for his mom surrounded by dogs. Poor little thing. I hope his mom really spoiled him when they got home. I’m not a fan of his haircut. I hope he grows out soon. That’s great he has so many friends. All the best to him. I love Zoe. She’s adorable and a very bright spot in so many peoples’ day. There are so many people going through such trying times. We have to be thankful if we’re doing pretty well and with nothing bad to deal with. And yes, we should hug the ones we love and also tell them we love them. Something tells me Marty’s parents will make sure he gets all the little snacks he’s accustomed to. The Mosses chose a wonderful name for Z13. He is certainly a gorgeous horse. I think we’ll see great things form him. He already has the aura of a champion in my opinion. Have a wonderful day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy

Day 344! Here is a great article about equine gestation, which helps explain “averages” and other misconceptions about what is “normal”. https://www.equine-reproduction.com/articles/overdue.shtml
Excerpt: One of the most commonly asked questions of the foaling season is “Is my mare overdue?”. This is often precipitated by the misbelief that 340 or 341 days of pregnancy duration represent a “due date”. Not so!
The average duration of gestation is anywhere between 320 and 370 days – so that mare which is at 345 days is not “overdue”, but well within the normal range! THE FOALING DATE IS PICKED BY THE FOAL WHO DICTATES THAT HE/SHE IS SUFFICIENTLY DEVELOPED AND READY TO BE BORN, NOT BY, NOT BY THE MARE WHO IS WATCHING THE CALENDAR ON THE WALL! [Love this!]
So, Zenny, would you whisper to that little one you are carrying that he/she has a big audience waiting on his/her arrival and we are on pins and needles. Hope he/she will be ready soon! I’m hoping this is a sign that it is a filly and she wants to make a grand entrance with the whole world watching! Well, little girl, it is and we are so ready! Hope you get ready soon!!! Hugs and kisses, sweet Zenny.

So, Happy Birthday, Ruffian. Our love for you will never diminish. Only time can make it stronger.

Like everyone else, checking the blog for a new update!
I picked the 8th because it is my favorite #. My alternate choices were Good Friday, 18th, or Easter Sunday. Easter is very special to me for more than one “obvious” reason. It is also the FIRST TIME I met you in person. One-on-one in 2010! I have pictures of you admiring the 2 posters I had made for the Queen :-)
I got to watch you workout on the training track behind Barn 55, cool down, get a bath and then I fed you carrots! You were heading to Oaklawn that week. Am I bless. Yes, I am!!

I posted yesterday in the early afternoon and it sat in Moderation so long that probably no one saw it! Mostly about how much LOVE Ziconic’s name!! Wow-perfect—I can just hear them announcing it as he takes the Belmont and the Triple Crown!!
I’m beginning to wonder if Zenny will have Z14 on the day I picked–April 19–at 11:33 PM. That would be pretty fun!
The past two Tuesdays,Sue has had a riding lesson ,on Traveller, with one of the great teachers at our barn. Both times,Sue has brought Barnaby out to an adjoining ring so that he could watch and have a roll and run around. In another adjoing area, there are about 6 young steers, who are used in the roping and sorting clinics. One of the young black ones has taken a liking to Barnaby. When Barnaby is in that corral,he comes up to the fence to see him and then when Barnaby stays there,he gives him a bath!!! He will lick him everywhere he can reach and Barnaby lets him do it. It is so cute–don’t know if it is because he likes Barnaby’s benign nature or what, but it is quite amazing. When I told one of the other gals at the barn about it,she told me about her previos airdale, who had made friends with an elk who used to visit their yard and would lick her dog!! Animal friendships across species are very interesting,I think.
Last weekend,we put up some TEENY little jumpsm in the arena and walked them over them, just to get them used to them. Then Sue trotted Traveller over them and,on the last one,a very low X, she did a little sort of hop! I think she is going to think that jumping is s fun job. Barnaby was willing to walk over the X,so that was good. Maybe this weekend,I’ll see if he wants to trot over it. He stumbles a little sometimes,so I am careful in what I ask of him,as I don’t want him to hurt himself—or me! Now that we are finally having real spring weather,it’s fun to ride outside–both horses seem to get a kick out of it too!! I am looking forward to this weekend to see how it all goes.
If anyone wants to see what I posted earlier,it’s near the bottom of page 4!!
Have a great day –Pacing–Pacing –Pacing!! Much love to Zenny and all of the team—and-to the fabulous Ziconic!!

Hi Sue,
Great to hear from you and to get another chapter in the adventures of Barnaby and Traveller :-). Went back and read your post on page 4 (I swear it wasn’t there earlier today). Anyhow, was the picture you referred to the one at the top of the previous post? Zenny isn’t in the one at the top of this post. Good to know that spring has arrived in Idaho. Be careful with those jumps – we need you in one piece :-)

Sheena. Forgot that there was a list. They should have put Hovis on it. The Horse and Hound set might have chosen him. I must say that Blueberry is a fine looking horse.
Agree with you about staying home. So relaxing. When you look around and see things like the lost 777 and the resulting heartbreak, staying home looks mighty good.
Am considering the purchase on Saturday of a carrot cake for Easter. Maybe 14 will give me another reason to buy.

anne-That bit of useless information reminds me of one of the lines from Kodachrome, a long ago song by Paul Simon. The lyric was “when I think of all the c… I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all. But my lack of education doesn’t bother me none. I can read the writing on the wall.” I agree with you, Anne. That poem is literally hundreds of years old. Needs an update in the case of Z.

Dear Max.Have you heard about Brendan Powell he’s up before the beak for mis-use of the whip on Battle Group last Saturday at Ayr.The poor horse only jumped a few fences,I can imagine what was going on in Powell’s head I’ll teach this stubborn horse a lesson,I hope they throw the book at him!!!
Historic day here tomorrow first time horse racing will be held on a Good Friday.Am not keen on the idea. Toormore won today at Newmarket should be a great 2,000 guineas this year.Glad your weather is improving a little, ours is going downhill this weekend.Free the Moose.Sheena.Is only 1hr 15mins to Judy Day over here!!
Max
Sheena. I’m appalled. I dislike whipping in general, but whipping Battle Group to the point of being brought before the beak is upsetting. Poor Battle Group. If a horse decides not to run, leave the matter there. Imagine if Sammy whipped the Mooster? I recall that Nigel waved a rope at him, but I never saw any whips. As I have mentioned before, EP Taylor, Northern Dancer’s breeder and owner, instructed his jockeys never to whip the Dancer. They were expected to give him a hand ride. Uncle Johnny seldom shows the whip to Dan. Dan already knows what to do.
Weather not too bad. I’m in a winter coat mostly because I head to work early. Not so cold later in the day.
Agree with you about Good Friday. Bad idea to work on that day except for emergencies or critical care services.
