Terry C. I left you a message above re my thoughts on California Chrome. I could fill pages and pages.
What a great gift to the rehab group. But what else would you expect from the Queen’s very caring and loving owners?

Happy early Birthday Zenyatta!! I hope you get all of the peppermints, carrots, and Guiness that you want!!

Love the trailor. So happy for the horses.

There was a fashionista sighting at Clockers Corner (Santa Anita) this morning. My good friend Mike Sekulic and I spotted the oh so trendy Sophie Shirreffs strolling along sporting a lovely pale pick coat. She was with the equally stylish Dottie. It’s inspiring to see people who support others early in the day, makes you live your day with a purpose.
Sorry, no photos, Mike was so taken with Miss Sophie that he failed to pull out the camera :)
Jsmith
make that PINK coat! Didn’t there used to be an edit button?

Judy, really love Chromie and how well he and Art Sherman worked so very well as a team. We are spoiled by Team Zenyatta and how well everyone cares and looks after each other – especially how they care for Zenny. I feel so sad about how Mr. Sherman was treated. I hope he gets to work with an owner who will really appreciate his qualities as a trainer and as a humble and honorable man. Also concerned about Chromie and pray he stays healthy and safe. A lesson there for us all I think – don’t take for granted, the gifts of the people and animals that God brings into our lives. Hope you have a blessed Tuesday, Judy. with love, Elizabeth

Dear Elizabeth:
So true what you say about not taking people and our beloved animals for granted. Have a great day. God Bless. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Great interview – Thanks Judy. Like everyone else, I feel SO bad for Art Sherman, Alan Sherman, Willie Delgado and Raul. They all truly love this horse, and it is just awful for them to have to cope with Chromie being snatched away. I hope it is just for the short term, but we keep hearing about these foreign interests.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sandy,
I feel exactly the same. What a lousy way to treat good people and a wonderful, magical horse. We can only hope that Chrome will stay healthy and come back home to someone who loves him. Well done, Mr. Sherman, and thank you so much!

What a beautiful trailer!!! I am so happy I made my purchases. I think it’s particularly nice that you posted a photo so we can see how the organization used the funds.
Thank you again for being such a wonderful team!! And thanks for sticking with us with this great website forum for all these years. We love Zenny and we love you too.

Real power is often just knowing when to keep our mouths shut. We have so much we want to say and so many to say it to that it is almost impossible to stay silent.
But silence teaches in a way that nothing else can. The mind makes deep adjustments in the quiet times. True laughter bubbles up from humor too precious for words-and brings with it a joy that dissolves disappointment.
Real, mind-changing power is of the spirit and can clear a path a mile wide through pain. The human spirit fights valiantly, and when it is blended with this power, it comes out like a tiger.
My heart is big and glad that you have told us that you will not make war on Indians.

Re: California Chrome. Perry Martin owns the majority interest in CC & Steve is more or less the mouth-piece of Dumb Ass Partners. Perry has always called the shots on his career. I have no doubt that Chrome will be well cared for at Newmarket, but I can’t help but feel that money is the bottom line here. I’m sure that the Brits made DAP an offer they couldn’t refuse. $$$$$$$$$ I would hope they would keep CC in US for his stud career but Japan & others might offer big bucks for him. His pedigree isn’t too shit-hot for US, but, you never know.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I read somewhere yesterday that Coburn’s interest is only 30%. Don’t know for sure if that is true, but it would explain a lot :-(
Terry Crow
That is true. Apparently most of the decisions are made by the majority partner.
Rosemary McCauley
Nicki – I agree with you that CC will most likely be well taken care of but my issue is that the horse is being treated by this dumb ass partner as though he has an on and off switch like a computer or calculator to be switched on when needed. CC has lost his last five races (correct me if I’m wrong) and this genius is setting him up to make it seven in a row with a race in New Market and another at Royal Ascot. He flew halfway around the world for 17-18 hours (???) On a plane ran a good second and according to Art the race was hard on him as with any shipper and he still has to ship to England and then in little more than six weeks another race at Newmarket and in 30 days or so another race at Royal Ascot. I hope and pray thus dumb ass partner doesn’t have a dog or other pet at home as I fear the poor animal will be stuck outside in the yard day and night and this dumb ass partner will treat it the same way others treat a plant in the yard – just throw it some water and food and that’s all it needs. He has no heart no compassion no feelings toward the needs of a living breathing animal. I chose CC proves me wrong and wins the races in England going away but I feel he will end his career with seven straight losses. He isn’t the most highly bred stallion prospect and the seven straight losses will not be encouraging for most breeders. Coburn had no problem speaking up for his horse in the past. Where the ______ is he now? Why is he silent?
Terry Crow
Rosemary-You have sat on the back of a race horse and I always value your opinions. You are spot-on about why this should not. happen. It is my understanding that Steve Coburn does not make the decisions as he is a minority owner.
lauraj_cincinnati
CC won his last start prior to the Dubai World Cup–the Hollywood Derby at Del Mar late last year.
Seems to me that 6 weeks should be plenty of time for a healthy horse to rest a bit and acclimate to his new surroundings, and then begin training for the Ascot meet.
Max
According to quotes in the English media from his new trainer, Chromie is getting 2 weeks off, probably for quarantine, and then goes immediately into training for a possible run in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 16. That is a grade 1 race won by Frankel and he had his brother Bullet Train as a pacemaker. Royal Ascot is in early June.
Terry Crow
Lauraj-CC made a start at Santa Anita this year when he squared off against Shared Belief.
Linda in NJ
Yup, so much for America’s horse. Off Chrome goes to a foreign land. Steve won a fair amount of money. Why doesn’t he buy out the other 70%?
I feel bad for Art in this way too. Art had to find the courage (when you know him and his team were really hurting) to speak up and explain this situation to all of us fans. We cheered the California Chrome team on for over a year. Guess what, we are deeply hurt too.

How wonderful to learn that our purchases during the Zenyatta Celebration performed such a gracious gesture of buying the trailer!! It is a gorgeous trailer and I know they will be able to use it to benefit many, many horses through the love of Zenyatta!! She is a Thoroughbred who is totally all heart, exactly what they are known for. My gratitude again goes to all of her connections at Team Z who make all of this possible and allow us to feel a part of the life of our Queen. Thank you!!!

Was there this much fuss when Animal Kingdom went to Ascot after the World Cup? I don’t remember it being so acrimonious.
Terry Crow
You are right, lauraj. However, Animal Kingdom’s racing schedule was well known before his race in Dubai and he was committed to the UK race as his final start. I doubt that money reared its ugly head. We will never know if he was truly ready for that race. As I recall, he finished 11 out of 13.
lauraj_cincinnati
IIRC, AK finished poorly mostly because there was a filly in the field. He got one whiff of her and went a little nuts. He left his race in the paddock. Hubba hubba.
Terry Crow
lauraj-It’ll happen every time.
Max
Motion and Uncle Johnny always said that AK just didn’t show up for the race. According to Motion, he should have done a prep race before Ascot. Your reason sounds possible. Might have been Elusive Kate? She ran 4th.
Max
The other factor is that AK’s trainer, Motion, a Brit himself and experienced with turf training, was for it. AK also had done rather well in the BCC Turf Mile. That race had higher calibre runners than those who showed up at Del Mar. The most interesting horse in the world won it.
Six weeks is hardly enough time to turn a stranger in a strange land into a winner against the best turf horses of the UK, Europe and Ireland. Even Black Caviar nearly lost it in her Ascot race and she was a turf Queen.
Mary Margaret in Georgia
Art Sherman is definitely a top class act. We can only pray that CC has safe trips and stays healthy, and especially, happy. He deserves the best treatment. Only one horse a year can say they are a Kentucky Derby winner. Fortunately, he should never end up like Ferdinand, 1986 KD winner, 1987 BC winner, 1987 HOY, to name a few. My heart aches thinking about so many mistreated horses.
Barbara Brayton
Trying to get caught up, was a sick puppy for a week and a half. Yuck.
Really nice trailer, glad we could help.
Not sure how I feel about Chrome going to Royal Ascot. Art Sherman got treated rather shabbily.
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)

Beautiful trailer – job well done by all. One step onto it and the horses will know they are on to a better life ahead. As always, the Z Team caring for others and promoting a healthy racing world. There are not enough words to praise all that Z Team does. Can only wish continued health, happiness and success to all.

Just saw on Bloodhorse.com that Far From Over is out of the Derby picture with an injury! Did not say if it was career ending. Having surgery on Friday in Lexington.
I just give up. The Imp of Injury haunts all of my Derby picks. First Texas Red and now Far From Over. There are a few others I like a bit but am not going to breathe their names for fear the imp will hear.
Praise the Lord that Lea and CC seems to have come out of their races okay.
Max
Any word on when Lea is coming home? Soon, I hope.
Terry Crow
Max-I share your feelings No American horse should stay there for an extended period of time. Neither should humans. IT may have been fixed by now, but it was my understanding that the big hotel in Dubai was somehow, for what reason I don’t know, built without bathrooms.
Max
When I was in college and we went on any field trips to study Civil War battlefields, we always rated places by the quality of their bathrooms. I’m definitely not going to that hotel. Generally speaking, I’m not going anywhere near there ever.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
I wouldn’t believe the bit about bathrooms or lack thereof without a credible source.
Max
It’s a great story whatever the source. I always listen to TC. His comments never fail to make me smile.
Terry Crow
lauraj–You were right to be skeptical. I somewhat misspoke. The hotel does have bathrooms, just no sewage system.
Max
TC. Got a great laugh from this last comment. Neigh x 9!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Oh, so sorry to hear about FFO. I hope his surgery goes well and he recovers fully. Power Up beautiful boy. Same for Texas Red. Love and Hugs, JB
vicki
I wonder if DAP expected the kind of reaction from fans they are receiving and do they even care? I don’t even want to contemplate CC being sold and going to Korea or Turkey! Most often the afterstory is the part of racing I really don’t like. It is so comforting to know that the Queen will always be treated with love, kindness and care all the days of her life by connections that put her welfare first.
Hope everyone has a blessed Easter.
Terry Crow
To lighten the mood a bit, here is one of my favorite RN jokes, although I have posted it before. Not that many people know that there is a special redneck division in the army. One day the commanding officer called them together for a meeting. “Men,” he said, you have been doling a fine job with your training. As a special reward, you will all be getting a change of underwear.” A big cheer came from the men. The commanding officer went on to say “OK, Cletus, you change with Billy Bob, Rufus you change with Elmer…”

Thanks for the joke. We need our mood lifted after all the concern for Chrome.

Today was the first day for turf workouts at Keeneland. Judy The Beauty worked as did Hootenanny for Wesley Ward. Interested to see if Hootie goes to the 2000 Guineas in the UK or stays in the US. Guess it will depend on who else Ballydoyle decides to send there.
sheena.davies(wales)
Hi Max.Ryan is riding War Envoy for Aidan in Dundalk tomorrow.I saw a lovely photo of Twice Over today on FB.Life in South Africa seems to suit him he was always a favourite of Sir Henry.Vautour may be running over Easter at Fairyhouse he was brilliant at Cheltenham. We do have a lot of left-handed courses over here Epsom and Cheltenham maybe the most famous.Of course Ascot is right-handed and there is a turn in the Prince of Wales RA is in the middle of June maybe the owners will get invited to lunch with Her Majesty!!Read an interesting piece about AP McCoy on the bbc website. He picks his 10 favourite horses. You see him in a different light through his comments.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Ballydoyle has made a wise decision to retain Moore to ride for them. He will do well. He’s getting to ride Gleneagles and John F. Kennedy. As of now, JFK is the odds on to win the Derby. Have to see who the Hannons have as well as Gosden, Stoute and others.
Charlton said that Al Kazeem will be in the Gold Cup again. Apparently he’s doing well.
Do you think that The Grey Gatsby will go to the Lockinge?
Twice Over was indeed Cecil’s favorite horse. He called him his best friend. The horse was very approachable, like Zenyatta. His dealings with Frankel were somewhat different. Cecil once said in an interview that he doubted Frankel knew who he was. Frankel seemed to relate more to his groom, Sandy. Abdullah wanted to sell Twice Over much earlier than he did, but he kept him because of how Cecil felt about the horse. Really heartwarming.

Linda in NJ
Hi Folks,
I just have a few other comments to make. For one: so much for California Chrome being America’s horse. Now he is off in another country. That to me is unbelieveable.
Art treated shabbily! That doesn’t even begin to cut it in my opinion. Talk about being blindsided. Apparently he never saw this coming. And let’s face it, these decisions aren’t made over night. Art Sherman is a professional horse trainer, and the owners have now made him–the trainer of record? I find that to be insulting!!! Especially having trained California Chrome, a horse of a modest background, to compete at a Kentucky Derby level. It was through Art and his team that all Chrome’s adventures were made possible. And Chrome took those owners on adventures of a lifetime that they will never experience again. I thought DAP Racing thought and appreciated California Chrome more than this.
I feel bad for Art in this way too. Art had to find the courage to speak up and explain this situation to all us fans when you know him and his team were really hurting. Where are the owners? GONE MISSING! Well that comment about cowards at Belmont Park proves this statement to be right–watch who you point your finger at because you’ve got 3 fingers pointing back at you.
We cheered California Chrome on for over a year. Guess what, we are DEEPLY HURT too. It looks like we are losing our beloved horse too. Whoever thought this would happen!
When you come across something like this, you just have to give so much credit to the Moss’ for doing right by Zenny.
Love,
Linda
Rosemary McCauley
Well said Linda. Art Sherman is a class act. I wish him only the best and appreciate the ride he took us on with CC.
As for the Queen I wish her an early Happy Birthday. Thank goodness we have owners like the Mosses to share her with us.

I just read a tweet by Victor Espinoza. He said, No matter where you go Chrome you will always be my hero. It sure doesn’t sound like Chrome is coming home does it. We would say “Bring it Home Chrome.” Now he may not be coming home.
Absolutely heartbroken over this.
With tears.
