Congrats to Moreno on an impressive win in the Whitney. Did any cappers out there pick him? I had Will Take Charge to place. He almost did it! He’s always right there in the money. He’s long overdue for a victory and I was hoping today would be the day.
Oh dear – birthday stuff? (still reading from the bottom up).
Trying to FORGET the dang things (B’days). Mine was an ordinary day. But I’ll make up for it this week – heading to SoCal Wednesday through Monday the 11th. Family picnic on Sunday that I’m really looking forward to. Cactus and succulent show on Saturday at the arboretum near Santa Anita. Friends from AZ are judges. Biggest such show in the world. Might try to sneak in to Los Al to watch workouts. Might stick my toes in the Pacific to keep my “certification”. Definitely looking forward to BC and seeing everyone again.

100 years ago on august 4th Great Britain declared war on Germany and the”lights went out all over Europe”There will be services in the UK and Europe to mark this historic anniversary.Tensions had been rising since the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on June 28th.
Millions died in the conflict not only human fatalities horses ,mules, dogs it is said some 8million horses perished and 1 million dogs.We are left to remember now and as I have often said I am proud of this little island of ours.I recall the trenches, the poisonous gases, the battles the Somme,Ypres,Passchendaele Jutland among a few.It was at Passchendaele that a horse’s life was considered more valuable than a man’s .Men can be replaced they said(pay attention Shorty!!)It is sad that so many horses that survived were sold to butchers on the continent.Tomorrow I will remember them all man and beast who paid the ultimate sacrifice.RIP.Forever remembered.Sheena
In Flanders fields the poppies grow, between the crosses, row on row,
that mark our place. And in the sky larks, still bravely singing, fly
scarce heard amidst the guns below.
We are the dead.Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe;to you with failing hands
we throw the torch;be yours to hold it high. For if ye break faith
with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields.
Author Dr John McCrae.
Sheena. Pride is justified. Your island kingdom and the Commonwealth countries like Australia and Canada always stand up for what is right and decent. Many including our beloved horses paid a very heavy price for our freedom in that war and WWII. Remembering is the least that we can do for all that was given up by so many. We must pass on freedom to those who follow us and never give in to fear or tyranny.
Thanks for sharing this Sheena. The magnitude of the loses (both human and animal) is staggering. You have every reason to be proud of your island nation, and I am proud to be connected to you all. Hugs, Sandy

Dear Max.What a great story!Just love Dozer. Also enjoyed the video of Zenyatta winning in 2009.I got sooo excited over here,it took me about 3 years to be able to watch the 2010 race and I’ll always believe she won that race too.A once-in-a-lifetime mare!Free the Moose PU Dan and all sick horses everywhere.Niss4Senate.Sheena.

Sheena. Z is awesome in everything that she does. If you look closely, you can see Twice Over in Juddmonte silks. Think Queally was riding.
Love Dozer. He’s got good racing form too.
Some good news out of Atlanta. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), Dr Brantly has shown some improvement since yesterday. With this disease, any improvement means that the patient may have licked it. Usually it’s straight downhill.
Still too soon to know. Prayers that this guy will survive and be well. Same for his colleague Mrs. Whitebol and all others.
Free the Moose! Etc.

Dear Max:
I join you in prayer for the doctor and his colleague. Scary stuff. Love and Hugs, JB

Hugs, Sandy
