Animal Kingdom foal delights US visitor (article with PHOTO)
Arrowfield News Wednesday, August 06, 2014
The arrival of Animal Kingdom’s first foal this week was greeted with plenty of excitement at Arrowfield Stud, but no-one was more excited than American visitor Conrad Bandoroff.
And with good reason. Conrad’s parents Craig and Holly Bandoroff own and manage Denali Stud in Kentucky where Animal Kingdom himself was born in 2008. The Stud raised and sold the future superstar and, when breeder Team Valor bought him back as a $100,000 yearling, took a share in him as well. http://www.arrowfield.com.au/articles/animal-kingdom-foal-delights-us-visitor.html

Delta Princess, dam of Royal Delta, euthanized at 15
By DRF Breeding Staff August 5, 2014
Delta Princess, a three-time Grade 3 winner and the dam of champion Royal Delta, was euthanized Tuesday due to a degenerative stifle condition. The 15-year-old A.P. Indy mare resided at Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs in Paris, Ky.
“It is with great sadness that we had to humanely euthanize Delta Princess early this morning,” Adena Springs general manager Eric Hamelback said. “Her chronic stifle issue caused her significant discomfort overnight, and it was clear that [euthanasia] was our only course of action. Delta Princess was a remarkable producer throughout her career, and we are all deeply saddened that it was cut so short.”
Kentucky-bred Delta Princess was out of the Group 2-placed Lyphard mare Lyphard’s Delta. She was a full sister to Grade 1 winner A.P. Five Hundred and a three-quarter-sister to Group 1 winner Biondetti. Her second dam was champion Proud Delta. Racing for Saud bin Khaled and trainer Bill Mott, Delta Princess won 11 of 30 starts and earned nearly $741,000. She won six stakes overall. http://www.drf.com/news/delta-princess-dam-royal-delta-euthanized-15
2-year-old Cozmic One, a son of Zenyatta, training well at Saratoga
The Saratogian By Chris Maley August 5, 2014
SARATOGA Springs >> Just like his dam, Cozmic One is full of energy.
John Shirreffs, the current trainer of the 2-year-old colt and former caretaker for his dam, 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, knows the formula for harnessing a horse’s restlessness on the track into something positive, so he has taken it easy with Cozmic One ever since he began training at Saratoga in mid-July.
“Zenyetta was very intense about the racetrack. Pretty laid back around the barn but very intense on the racetrack,” Shirreffs said. “With Cozmic One, he feels so good all the time, a lot of energy, so we try and plan long training sessions time-wise, spending a lot of time with him and giving him a chance to quiet himself before he does anything serious.”
At end of article: John Shirreffs said:
“As far as we’re concerned, the future is unlimited,” he said. “It could be anything, so we’re very excited and hopeful that he’ll turn out to be something very special.” http://www.saratogian.com/sports/20140805/2-year-old-cozmic-one-a-son-of-zenyatta-training-well-at-saratoga
Thanks, Bluegrass girl, for sharing this link. I know all of us are excited about Coz’s training and can’t wait to see him race. Patience is the virtue we all need now but it sure is hard.
Dear Debbie. It’s always why I feel so sad at migration time, they all leave separately and, indeed, will never see each other again. It’s such an long journey for the youngsters and so far none of Monty’s previous offspring have been seen back in the UK.3 we know of definitely perished. They aren’t tracking the chicks again this year nor did they track Clarach or Cerist last year.We can only hope and pray.Love and hugs Sheena.
Sheena. Consideration should be given to getting some avian condos with central heating for those birds so that they don’t have to fly to Africa for the winter. I would donate.

My grandparents had seven children, two boys and five girls. They farmed cotton. It must have been a very hard life but none of the family ever talked about that. They lived near Gatesville, Texas and are buried in Glen Rose, Texas. Uncle Sonny served at the end of WW2 in the navy. The older girls got married and my grandparents moved to town. My grandmother, Rosabel, was of Dutch heritage and she always wore her long hair in a neat crown of braids. She always wore dressed and carried a handkerchief in her pocket. Pawpaw died in 1971 and Granny in 1972. All of their children grew up to be fine human beings. They were all readers. All of their children are gone as well. My Mom was the last to go. She passed in 2011. They weren’t the Waltons but they were a very loving family and I miss them all.
I have an Uncle Sonny too who served in the Navy. He’s not well and is the only living sibling in my Mom’s family. My Dad has passed, but there are four aunts still with us all in their 90s. Sad we are losing that brave generation. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy,
Has your Uncle Sonny recorded his WWII memories? As we lose each of these brave good men, their stories need to be preserved for future generations. They truly were The Great Ones.

No, he never wanted to talk about it much. Yes, it’s sad we’re losing that great generation of folks. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Vicki,
Thanks for this lovely post about your grandparents — seven children who turned out so well. Your mother did very well with you, also!
Thank you for sharing them with us! Hugs
Oh, Vicki–I am so glad to know that. Glen Rose is about an hour and half northwest of us. Two of our favorite restaurants are there. One of them is called Inn on the River, and it is superb. It is a nice little town, and with our rains this summer, the river actually has water!
Dear Vicki
How special to have memories of your grandparents and for your Mom to come from such a large loving family.I am sorry she is gone and understand how you must miss them all. What a legacy they have left you-everything that is important.
Dear Sheena, so sad to hear the ospreys all leave separately and will not be together again.. The chicks are so so young, pulls at my heartstrings thinking about how fast they must grow up. Pray they all make it and have a safe journey.

Dear Max,now I am worried about the ospreys flying to Africa and the Canadian crew on the Lancaster as well. The article, was very interesting. Canadians enjoy our friendship with Britian, nice to see another example of it..
You can relax for tonight. Vera has made it to Iceland. Matthew Munson tweeted that she’s in a hanger there for the night. Don’t worry. If she can survive WWII, the Atlantic is a piece of cake.
Dear Max.That’s definitely a good idea for the ospreys.! Am not sure they’d enjoy the idea of staying in Wales for the winter!I think I told you about Lady the elderly osprey at the Loch of Lowes in Perthshire she’s about 27/28 now and someone suggested they should try and keep her there but they wouldn’t dream of it.They said she is free to go where she likes and whenever she likes, for her to be in captivity would distress her.She is a gift to us from Africa. If she makes it back next year it will be her 25th season there.Hope the Fly can do well this season,I wonder which of the distances Annie Power will go for.It won’t be that long before the real jumps season gets underway.I wonder how SS has summered?Free the Moose!Niss4Senate.Sheena.
Sheena. Yes, I have to agree that the ospreys must be free. Just don’t like the idea of Glesni and the others in West Africa with all of the trouble there. Hope that the greater power than humans looks after her and the family.
No word yet on SS. The New One will be back. Nigel said in an interview that he’s doing well. No word however from Nigel on the future of the wily chestnut. I hope that Moosie is listening to his horse psychologist, Gary. Word was that Gary was making headway when the beak struck.
Free the Moose! Beak, give Moosie a break!
Dear Judy.No news on Nissy’s blog about peep#2.Peep#1 had planted all primroses over his outside loo!!!Mason was supposed to be keeping an eye on her.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Little Cap Hercules and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Max and Sheena
Interesting to read about Matthew and his bid to fly with the crew on the Lancaster.
What an exciting experience,if not harrowing! Glad they are safe in Iceland for the night.
I just called my cousin whose Dad was my Mom’s brother .Uncle Jack was in the RCAF in WW11 and he did fly in a Lancaster. He was a Flight Lieutenant and a tail gunner. In one mission his plane was the only one who made it back.Sadly my Mom and her sister and brother have all passed on.. Dad was in the Royal Navy on the HMS Empress in the Burma Star. He is still very much alive, precious times as he turns 90 next yr..He is a diehard football fan(soccer).Look forward to hearing about the Lancaster touching down safely tomorrow.
re Lady, the elderly osprey, she is AMAZING!! Hope she makes it back for her 25th season and yes,she must stay free. What a spirit she has!!

A beautiful morning on the Dyfi, some early mist and then sun and blue skies.Glesni is still bringing in nesting materials although the urge to leave now must be great.Boo and Buddy are enjoying their trip to NYC!I don’t think things are good with Gizmo’s mom,Zoe looked so cute in her nurse’s uniform.Prayers are needed.Poor Zoe had to have a b-a-t-h!
Fubu’s momma was finding the contest a bit too stressful so he’s out of it.I know she had a bad migraine she must be so worried about him but at least he ate some gravy.Joey was having a great time in the studio,I love how the doors always open for him!!Have to visit the rest of the furbabies now, have been shopping this morning.Have a great day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Praying for the ospreys’ safety on their long journey, especially this little family we know so well. Love seeing the pics of Boo and Buddy on their travels. Gizmo’s mom is having serious health problems. Prayers going up! Little Zoe is adorable in her nurse’s uniform. She has a LOT of little outfits. Such a sweet little girly girl! Was glad to see that Fubu ate some kitty gravy. You know his mom’s migraines have a lot to do with the stress she’s under. Poor woman. Joey’s staff seems well trained. He has many people who LOVE him. Marty has a TV news network now. There are no limits to that rat’s talents! Have a wonderful day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Sgt. Reckless America’s War Horse by Robin Hutton. What a fantastic story. She was a Mongolian racehorse that served with the marines in Korea during that war. She received two Purple Hearts and was awarded the rank of sergeant. There is a monument to her at National Museum of the Marine Corp, one at Camp Pendleton and one in South Korea. In one day she made 51 trips through the battlefield across 35 miles of rice paddies and mountainous terrain carrying ammunition and returning with the wounded. She was twice wounded. She shared the men’s rations and was loved by all. After the war she retired to California and had 3 foals. She was frequently visited by her former brothers in arms. She died in 1952 after an accident. This should be a movie!
Vicki. There is something a little amiss with your dates. The Korean War ended in July 1953. Reckless retired to the US after the war. I seem to recall that she did indeed love her food, especially liked to eat what the troops were eating. Very brave horse. And she was a chestnut.
Free the Moose!
Zenyatta’s 2009 Clement Hirsch on TVG last night. Her beauty always stuns me. Ron Ellis made a comment about her being a ham. I don’t think so. Her dance wasn’t to entertain. She was psyching herself up for the race ahead. That’s what makes Zenyatta so great and I pray she passes it along to her offspring. She is a competitor. She’s Michael Jordan and Tom Brady with Elizabeth Taylor looks and a lot of love and patience for us mere humans. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to see her races and to watch her precious boy begin his journey forward.
I agree, she was not hamming it up. She was definitely psyching herself up as well as warming her body up in general. She’s such a world-class athlete!
Wow-this is a story about a war horse that should be a movie Vicki! Amazing.
Sheena, visited the live stream just now and at first just saw the gorgeous countryside and now it is really greatl, One osprey in the nest and two on the post.I think Deri is in the nest,Can you please tell me who is who at the moment if you are reading this.

The path through the woods has a light layer of scarlet leaves that have fallen early from the woodbine. Crickets are chirping the coming of a new season-and the sassy blue jay, tla yv ga, agrees.Touching the earth is a lovely feeling that once again we find our beginnings. Whether we walk or plant or plow, it is a place created for us, a place to stand with bare feet to feel comfort spread quietly through us. The pulse of the earth slows our own and tranquilizes confusion. Seeing the ga lv lo i, sky, in its limitless depths stirs us to imagine, to stretch our awareness to know how much beauty is provided for us. It helps us to see that mean things can only last as long as we allow them. Nothing can hem us in when we know the freedom of spirit.

Dear Kathy.

Sheena. Maybe Glesni has heard of the ban on all non essential air travel to West Africa, and she is planning on staying in Wales? Time to reinforce the nest.

Dear Sheena,
Praying for the ospreys’ safety on their long journey, especially this little family we know so well.

I thought she was Korean….oh well…live and learn
she was not a very big girl either …if memory serves me…
Max
Vicki. There is something a little amiss with your dates. The Korean War ended in July 1953. Reckless retired to the US after the war. I seem to recall that she did indeed love her food, especially liked to eat what the troops were eating. Very brave horse. And she was a chestnut.

Kathy
Vicki,
I agree, she was not hamming it up. She was definitely psyching herself up as well as warming her body up in general. She’s such a world-class athlete!
