Alys sent over new conformation shots of Ziconic, now two months into yearling prep at Lane’s End. Also below, Todd Claunch captured a special moment between Ziconic and his feline buddy Linda.
Thank you so much for this special Thursday treat, Team Z! Ziconic looks spectacular, and the pic of him and Linda is very endearing. Great photography as always Alys and Todd.

Thank you for these confirmation shots of Ziconic! He has a beautiful top line and strong hind quarters. They have raised him to ideal condition to begin his racing career. Anyone know how tall he is?
This is one handsome dude! But, then again, Zenny IS his dam, right?
Always terrific to see news about Zenny’s family and Ziconic’s confirmation shots are stunning, apart from the “What are we doing here?” look in his eye in the profile shot. LOL.
Zi is a very handsome colt who never seemed to have an awkward stage. We have been so spoiled with all the photos and videos lately and genuinely appreciate everything we get from Team Z. Ziconic looks so mature and eager to get on with his training. We are anxious to see how Coz develops and how Zi does in the next stage of his life…all of Zenny’s offspring seem ready to take on any challenge put before them.
Thanks, Team Z, for these photos.
Oh my goodness, Zi looks absolutely perfect. Zenny sure knows how to produce great looking offspring…now we have to see if they inherited her racing skill as well.
Thanks for the pictures!
The top picture of Zi brought tears to my eyes. I know I’ve probably said it or implied it too much already but he reminds me so much of his great-great-great grandfather, my beloved Big Red, that it’s frightening. Those muscles! That deep chest! The big sloping rear end! Those legs! It’s like looking at Secretariat’s portrait in that same pose from over 40 years ago. I am so EXCITED about Ziconic! And he likes cats! Red also had his own barn cat friend when he was stabled at Belmont, a seven-toed cat named Scooter who was stolen right after he won the Belmont Stakes.
To see the picture I’m referring to, read Raymond G.Woolfe’s excellent coffee table book Secretariat. It appears on page 50.
Deb E. I also think of “Big Red” when I look at Ziconic (little red to me)….I am in LOVE with this guy, since the day he was born and they posted his pics.
When I saw the first pictures of Ziconic, the hair on the back of my neck and my arms stood straight on end ,and I got goosebumps. As Yogi berra said: ‘It’s like deja vu all over again!”
This colt has been special from the beginning. Incredible balance and presence. I agree with those who say he is the best of the three, so far. It will be exciting to watch all three offspring, but this one will be of special interest to me.
I love this boy. I think he is going to be the biggest of Zen’s babies. He is so beautiful!Reds are my favorite. The Princess is a big girl to though. May be like her Mom. I just love all of them because they are Zen’s.
This is one BIG yearling. Once again, Thanks for keeping us in the loop of all Zenny’s babies. We know you don’t have to do it and we are so appreciative. God Bless and God Speed to all of them. Can’t wait to watch Coz and Ziconic run.
He was a powerful motor in his rear end. Looks a lot like a quarter horse… but once he loses the belly, he’ll look more TB. I love this colt… have since Z foaled him.
Dear Team Z.Ziconic is just the most beautiful boy.Love the photos and the farm cat, great to see the 2 of them having fun!How Z must be so proud of her family!Love and hugs SheenaX
THANK YOU TEAM Z AND LEF for this update on “Little Red” Ziconic….He is just LOVELY!! I love his kitty too!! Ziconic is a Very Handsome Boy!! Thanks so much for updating us on how Z and her “Kids” are doing! When is Zeaster going to be weaned? She is quite the CUTIE too!! HUGS TO ALL
Wow, what a beautiful boy! Love the conformation shot of Ziconic. He is one sturdy yearling with great bone. He looks like Zenyatta with lots of Tapit thrown in for good measure.
It is so kind and thoughtful of Lane’s End and TeamZ to keep us posted on the progress of Zenyatta and her family. I have never had the opportunity to watch the growth and development of a race horse from birth to the start of their racing careers. It is just amazing to watch the development of the young horses taking place in each update. I had no idea that so much time and effort by so many experienced and knowledgeable professionals went into the training of these beautiful horses. I truly have a new appreciation for all those who make the sport of kings possible.
Completely agree, Louise! I have learned so much about racing and horses in the last few years because of loving Zenyatta and this blog! My non-horsey friends think I am quite knowledgable but I have only scratched the surface! Then I am not above mentioning talking with friends from England, Wales and Australia! I am sooo bad! Thanks everybody!
♥ Can never get enough of this gorgeous creature. And he is a cat-lover too, for what more can one ask? He reminds me so much of two of my all-time favorite horses. Sometimes I see glimmers of Big Red when I look at him. At other times, the ghost of Alydar seems to shadow behind. But in the end, he is himself, the most royally bred lad in the land, and he is purr-fectly wonder-full! Thank you so much for sharing him with us, Team Z! ♥

Just beautiful. Love the kitty too! Hugs to Zenny and Princess Z. as well.

Correct spelling is “conformation.” It refers to how the horse is “conformed,” as in shaped. Unless he is taking religious vows… :-)
Zenyatta's Web Team
Thanks for catching the spelling error. That was definitely an auto-correct that we didn’t notice!
