Second Annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration to
Offer More Excitement for Fans
Tickets for After-Party In Honor of Popular Racing Star Selling Quickly
ARCADIA, Calif. (October 25, 2012) – Team Zenyatta announced this week that race-goers staying for the second annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration on Championship Friday, Nov. 2, would be treated to more racing celebrity appearances, special live entertainment and the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind items during a live auction honoring “The Queen.” The After-Party Celebration will be at Santa Anita Park’s Frontrunner Lounge following the day’s race card.
This official Breeders’ Cup event quickly has come to be a popular and electric gathering and this year will offer appearances by Zenyatta’s trainer, John Shirreffs, racing manager and voice of the Zenyatta Diary, Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, and jockey Mike Smith. Additionally, a cavalcade of past and present popular jockeys will be attending the After-Party on behalf of the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), including John Velazquez, Ramon Dominquez, Joe Talamo and Javier Castellano, as well as Hall of Fame great Laffit Pincay.
“My jockey friends and I are looking forward to the After-Party, where we will highlight the critical work of the PDJF, toast the Breeders’ Cup and hang out with Zenyatta’s fans,” Smith said. “The After-Party is sure to be one of the most fun events of Breeders’ Cup weekend.”
In addition to the PDJF, the Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration also will benefit CANTER as well as other equine, children, and racing-related charities.
Zenyatta fans in attendance will also be treated to live entertainment by Liza G. and her “Zenyatta” song, and a silent auction with Zenyatta memorabilia and artwork will take place throughout the evening. A live auction will feature several premium items including a special artist proof of the “Zenyatta, Horse of our Lifetime” bronze by Nina Kaiser, the sculptor of the life-sized Zenyatta statue recently unveiled at Santa Anita, a canvas from acclaimed equine artist Jaime Corum featuring Zenyatta entitled “Breeders’ Cup Gold,” an original halter from Zenyatta’s foal, and a trip to see Zenyatta at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, KY.
The After-Party Celebration will be from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, allowing race-goers a relaxing environment to toast the day’s winners and gather to celebrate the past and present of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at the Frontrunner Lounge. Amenities include a California buffet, a cash bar featuring Z-cocktails, and race replays from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program. Tickets are $50 for admission only, or $95 for admission combined with the buffet. A limited number of tickets are still available for sale at Zenyatta Shop.
As an added benefit for “The Queen’s” most loyal fans, reserved seating for the Breeders’ Cup Championship races in the specially designated Zenyatta Section is also available for $150 on Friday and $250 on Saturday. See Zenyatta Shop for sales and details.

Dear GirlSaratoga, I am so glad that you came through the storm okay and that it wasn’t as bad as you feared! I’m glad all the Z fans seem to be alright, but you were last reporting in, so I was still a little concerned. Sure was an awful storm for many, though, and it sounds like you lucked out! We are all so glad!

dear sign and max feeling very emotional at the moment just heard kauto has been retired clive went down this morning and the decision was taken it’ s the end of an era so happy he’s safe and sound but sad we wont see him again hugs sheena

Dear Shenna,
So sad Kauto has been retired, and yes the
End of a wonderful era of Steeplechase.
His legacy will live on. With the danger of
That sport, bittersweet, end, but soooo glad
He did not have a terrible accident or lose
His life. I think he just had no more jumps left
And that fall in training was his message. His
Owner and trainer really showing their love for
Him, by retiring him. Where will he go? With
Denman? To that wonderful yard to be retrained?
Max
Sheena. It is best for Kauto to call it quits and go uninjured to another career. At least you will see him again during the tribute at the next King George. Kauto is a wonderful horse. His brothers can carry on.
What do you think of Nacarat’s chances this year? He reminds me of Tasty Temptation. I guess that I should be cheering for Mad Max.

Good morning from Fort Erie where we got very lucky – it almost seems as if Sandy (the storm, (not NE Ohio) missed us altho we did have rain every day for about five days.
Today I am leaving home to head out to California and Santa Anita – counting those sleeps was worse than waiting for Christmas when I was a child, but there’s only ONE more sleep before I board that plane tomorrow morning and meet up with Sandy from NE Ohio at Burbank tomorrow afternoon. It’s taken forever to finally get here and I’m so looking forward to meeting all the Dumplings.
Vic is very disappointed that she’s missing all the fun but college comes first and I have instructions to get as many photographs and autographs as I can while she carries on with her horse anatomy, biology, and conformation studies.
Happy Halloween everyone.

To all who are attending Zenyatta’s party and the Breeders Cup races. I am so envious. Have fun and take lots of pictures and videos to share with us.
Here’s to a great, safe racing weekend for mounts and riders. Take care and hugs to all

Glad all came safely through the storm. According to Steve Haskins on Bloodhorse.com, Muchie and the other horses were heading out to an Air Force base to catch a flight to Santa Anita. Should be there by noon. Which I guess is noon Pacific time. Wish he had more time to get used to his new surroundings and wish Johnny V did not have a mount in the Classic. He scares me when he is riding against one of my favorites. At least 3M has our Mike.

dear sign thanks for your message about kauto I have no idea where he will go in his retirement hope it will be similar to denman paul called him a horse in a lifetime and he was just one jump too many sad we wont see him again but he’s left us so many precious memories hugs sheena

Dear Sheena,
Hope you have Kauto’s videos close to
Watch. Where is the article you read? Will look
It up. And please keep us posted where he goes,
Would really love him for mine and retrain him.
He would probably be a very big handful as
He still acts like a boy!!!

Too bad John’s horse Nereid is out of the BC. That just leaves him with Star Billing. I know he and we will be thinking of the glory days of the Queen this weekend. Never will we see her likes again.

Sheena. Mad Max was 4th at Aintree on October 27. Nacarat was 6th. I know that MM is very spirited. It takes two 6 foot guys to saddle him?

dear kathy thanks very much for the info about makybe diva it’ pretty similar over here we dont hear a lot about broodmares especially if their offspring dont turn out to be champions thankGod for owners like the mosses and the zenyatta website maybe the owners will share nelly with her fans when she retires camilla is getting more popular over here now but I cant say what will happen when charles becomes king that is if she becomes queen diana was very popular hugs sheena
Kathy R.
Dear Sheena: Sorry that you are so sad over the retirement of one of your favourites – know how empty that feels – but as others have said, at least he retired well and not in a horrible way. We had a great filly called Amelia’s Dream who retired to be a mum due to serious injury – her first filly foal to race went the track through the week and suffered a catastrophic fracture of a rear leg – euthanised on the track. So keep remembering the wonderful times with Kauto. Nelly will go the way of Makybe Diva – except for the first foal. Despite the publicity, she’s largely forgotten by the average punter, and also despite claims, didn’t bring the crowds back to the track – they only need to have access to the internet to punt, and most of the young ones are only interested in getting drunk. Sorry to sound so flat, but that’s the way it is. But keep your chin up! Hugs, KathyR.
shirleeinindy
Sorry for the mistake. John also has Mr. Commons in the Mile. Sort of like Star Billing even at those long odds.

I have some wonderful video’s of Makybe Diva. What a wonderful Mare! It is a shame tht many fans here in America are unaware of her Greatness. I just love her. It seems so many great mares do produce the way we wish, but often it show up in th 2nd generation. We can’t call Baby Z baby mch longer! He is growing so…fast! And seems like quite th character!!
Kathy R.
Dear Kim Zeanyatta: Couldn’t agree with you more – hundreds used to turn up to watch the Diva train! And she won THREE consecutive Melbourne Cups – that is a great training exercise. Hope you’re right and the next generation will bring her name back to the public – maybe La Dolce Diva will be able to do that as a Mum! But there’s just no-one like the Mosses, Lanes End and of course Zenyatta! Cheers!

dear judy it must have been great for papa charlie to get out hope the horse with colic is better I would’nt have liked to be in angelas boots mucking out after 31 horses bless her it’s been showing some of the young folk killed in the storm on our news channel today very sad stories quite a few of our news reporters are out in the US take care hugs sheena

Dear Sheena:
I’m going to see Papa tomorrow. Yes, I know. It was quite a job for Angela and the girls who helped her. I will check on the horse with colic tomorrow. Hopefully he is better. We were so lucky here. It is very difficult to watch those sad videos of the terrible damage and flooding on the news. It’s just so bad.
I have been meaning to ask you to e-mail me and maybe if I reply to your e-mail with the photos and video of Papa Charlie as attachments, they might come through. I tried sending them to you, but it’s not working. Hugs, JB

HeidiK (Vallejo, Ca) aka DinkyDiva, Miffed!
Ok, I’ve stayed silent long enough. Who else won tickets? Did you get them and when? I haven’t received mine and I doubt that I will since, it’s two days before. Even though, I’m unable to attend, if I had made plans and still didn’t have my tickets, I would be beyond miffed! Heck, I’m miffed right now! It’s not really about that though, it’s the entire point of it! What happened Tyler??? Also, I’m not the ONLY one that did not get the tickets promised!
Karen Gogue
Yes, Heidi K, I know someone who has NOT received their winning tickets.
harriett (Oklahoma)
My tickets never came. I got the notification and replied with my mailing address for Tyler to send the tickets. Then I checked the mailbox every day. I even wrote again to ask when they had been mailed but got no reply.
I poured out my heart in the piece I wrote on Zenyatta for the contest. Then, this kind of treatment. I am very sad and hurt.
HeidiK (Vallejo, Ca) aka DinkyDiva, Miffed!
Harriett, I did the samething although, a lil different than you but, still got my info to Tyler. I just don’t get it!
Marty R / Colorado
How disheartening, Harriett. I feel so badly for you and any others as well, but you sounded like you would have really used the tickets. From my perspective, there needs to be an explanation given. I didn’t enter the contest, but this is really disappointing to hear.
Louise Castello
I’m curious, too! I thought surely we would hear who won. I didn’t even enter, but it’s insane HeidiK hasn’t even gotten her tickets! Wonder what’s up?

Nereid Out of Filly & Mare Turf
Eric Kronfeld’s Nereid has been declared out of the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) after sustaining a minor injury, according to trainer John Shirreffs.
The daughter of Rock Hard Ten , second to Marketing Mix in the Rodeo Drive Stakes (gr. IT) last out, apparently kicked the wall of her stall, causing her to be “off in her right hind,” the trainer told the Breeders’ Cup notes team the morning of Oct. 31.
Nereid had been scheduled to break from post 5 in the 1 1/4-mile Filly and Mare Turf under Julien Leparoux. She had been listed as a 15-1 shot on the morning line.
Nereid, who deadheated with Cambina in Betfair Hollywood Park’s American Oaks (gr. IT) last year, has won three of 11 starts and earned $303,800.
“It was minor, but it was the worst possible time,” Shirreffs said.
Shirreffs also has George Krikorian’s Star Billing entered in the $2 million Filly and Mare Turf, which has been reduced to a field of 11.

‘Little Zenyatta’ Ready for Juvenile Fillies
Around the Mark Casse barn, Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly (gr. I) contender Spring in the Air is known as the “Little Zenyatta.”
Fans at Clockers’ Corner at Santa Anita Park Oct. 31 got a little taste of why as she exited the track after a good gallop. John Oxley’s daughter of leading freshman sire Spring At Last broke into her Zenyatta dressage-like prance, tapping one front hoof in front of the other, then switching to the other leg. She usually does it for the spectators in the paddock or post parade prior to her races.
“That’s what her jockey, Patrick Husbands, started calling her, ‘his Little Zenyatta,'” the Woodbine-based conditioner said back at Barn 25, where Spring in the Air is stabled as she awaits her big date against Executiveprivilege and six others in the $2 million Juvenile Filly Nov. 2.
“I’m not sure why she does it,” he said. “sometimes it’s one leg, sometimes it’s two. It’s nothing we taught her to do. She got a lot of cheers at Churchill Downs (where she was training before shipping to Southern California). People were calling out to her, ‘Zenyatta, Zenyatta’
“I don’t think there’s a better horse for her to emulate,” he added in reference to the 2010 Horse of the Year and winner of 19 of 20 races.
A long, light-framed bay filly, Spring in the Air may not look much like Zenyatta. But like her famous counterpart who performed brilliantly on synthetic tracks, she’ll have to show her ability on dirt for the first time in order to succeed Friday.
Bred in Ontario by WinStar Farm, she has raced on synthetic tracks in three of her four starts and once on grass. Spring in the Air is coming off the biggest effort of her career, winning the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (gr. I) on the Keeneland Polytrack Oct. 5 by one length. Interestingly, Casse said, she did not prance before that race.

Alys, Thanks for the great photos of Z12 and his buds. He doesn’t look like he is going hungry and has still to grow into those wonderful ears. Looks as if he is going to be a big boy like his Mom.
Never has one colt ever had so much attention and love sent his way. I don’t care if he can’t run any faster than I can, he will always be dear to my heart.
Muchie is safe in California.

What is the “California Casual” dress code for the Zenyatta party? Is that more or less formal than business casual? I’ll be at the BC all day and will be in comfortable clothing for watching the races, but will I have to bring fancy clothes for the Zenyatta party?
