Second Annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration to
Offer More Excitement for Fans
Tickets for After-Party In Honor of Popular Racing Star Selling Quickly
ARCADIA, Calif. (October 25, 2012) – Team Zenyatta announced this week that race-goers staying for the second annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration on Championship Friday, Nov. 2, would be treated to more racing celebrity appearances, special live entertainment and the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind items during a live auction honoring “The Queen.” The After-Party Celebration will be at Santa Anita Park’s Frontrunner Lounge following the day’s race card.
This official Breeders’ Cup event quickly has come to be a popular and electric gathering and this year will offer appearances by Zenyatta’s trainer, John Shirreffs, racing manager and voice of the Zenyatta Diary, Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, and jockey Mike Smith. Additionally, a cavalcade of past and present popular jockeys will be attending the After-Party on behalf of the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), including John Velazquez, Ramon Dominquez, Joe Talamo and Javier Castellano, as well as Hall of Fame great Laffit Pincay.
“My jockey friends and I are looking forward to the After-Party, where we will highlight the critical work of the PDJF, toast the Breeders’ Cup and hang out with Zenyatta’s fans,” Smith said. “The After-Party is sure to be one of the most fun events of Breeders’ Cup weekend.”
In addition to the PDJF, the Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration also will benefit CANTER as well as other equine, children, and racing-related charities.
Zenyatta fans in attendance will also be treated to live entertainment by Liza G. and her “Zenyatta” song, and a silent auction with Zenyatta memorabilia and artwork will take place throughout the evening. A live auction will feature several premium items including a special artist proof of the “Zenyatta, Horse of our Lifetime” bronze by Nina Kaiser, the sculptor of the life-sized Zenyatta statue recently unveiled at Santa Anita, a canvas from acclaimed equine artist Jaime Corum featuring Zenyatta entitled “Breeders’ Cup Gold,” an original halter from Zenyatta’s foal, and a trip to see Zenyatta at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, KY.
The After-Party Celebration will be from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, allowing race-goers a relaxing environment to toast the day’s winners and gather to celebrate the past and present of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at the Frontrunner Lounge. Amenities include a California buffet, a cash bar featuring Z-cocktails, and race replays from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program. Tickets are $50 for admission only, or $95 for admission combined with the buffet. A limited number of tickets are still available for sale at Zenyatta Shop.
As an added benefit for “The Queen’s” most loyal fans, reserved seating for the Breeders’ Cup Championship races in the specially designated Zenyatta Section is also available for $150 on Friday and $250 on Saturday. See Zenyatta Shop for sales and details.

I kind of thought he would be there. Michael B. really loved him to. I was reading where he credits jockey, Wilfred Lozano, with saving Invigorate from severe injury. The piece does not go into detail, but there’s a reference. Here’s the link. Hugs, JB

Judy,
He was a beautiful Chestnut. I don’t remember seeing him in his racing days. I don’t know how old he was but when I saw him he didn’t look that old. I wonder what caused his death. They must not know. Michael only said that they saw him that morning but when they returned that afternoon he was dead in his pasture. I believe as you said He probably didn’t suffer long. Wouldn’t you think he didn’t. I think I told you he said there was never a day that went by that he didn’t think about him.
He was a beauty

I heard they moved your leaving for California to October 30.
Please take care of that leg of your’s. Stress Fractures can come back in humans. Don’t know if it is the same for horses but you take good care. I had a stress fracture in my foot and it would come back if I stressed the foot too much.

Dear everyone: First and most important – please stay safe with those dreadful storms – my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Second, the Cox Plate has just been run and won here at Moonee Valley with Ocean Park (b h 4y Thorn Park – Sayyida (NZ) (by Zabeel (NZ)) first, All Too Hard (b c 3y Casino Prince – Helsinge (by Desert Sun (GB)) second and Pierro (b c 3y Lonhro – Miss Right Note (IR) (by Daylami (IR)) third. It was a great race, with the winning jockey (Glen Boss) describing it as his greatest race. And given that Bossy has won three Melbourne Cups, that’s high praise indeed for Ocean Park.
Please stay safe people – hugs, KathyR.
Ann NC
Thanks Kathy R., so far just clouds and spits of rain, here inland in NC. Stay safe all along the east coast. Our Outer banks will have no roads if we get hit big time.
Thank you for all of the racing coverage, always a great read!
Take care.
Kathy R.
Ann NC: Are Moose and Goose okay? And can anyone tell me (not having any experience with those filthy storms you folk have) what do you do with horses? Are the barns very sturdily constructed? Saw an earlier comment from Sign regarding the noise of the wind – I have strong winds of the type we get here, but would just hate to have to endure the strength you’ve got over there. Again, stay safe. Hugs KathyR.
Ann NC
Thanks, Kathy R.
We are inland and the storm stayed and moved further east,so we were very lucky. Our NC coast has seen some damage, w/ trees down and minor flooding and erosion. Now,hope the north can get by and not have major damage. The bovines are fine and happy to be back in the fields, grazing away.
With storms here in the past, we have had major evacuations and the equine community is great and pulls together in keeping horses safe. Our fair grounds will let stables move into the stalls for safety and surrounding barns will help w/ hosting. Hope all goes well for our neighbors to the north.
Thanks for your concerns.

Dear Kathy R,
Wondered how Ocean Park fit into the mix for
The race after viewing the videos we had here.
They were saying that not many 3 year old win
It as experience as a horse and a jockey really
Make the difference, and it did.
Am going to keep up with Pierro, Lonhro’s, talented
Son to see what he will breed for us in the US.
Thanks so much for the updates from Down Under.
The special on Black Cavier was very good, did not realize
It had been previously aired in 9/2011. Did not realize
That she had a habit of bounding out of the gates and
injured herself a few times. The showed her rehabilitating
In the water, a great swimming horse.
Kathy R.
Ann and Sign: Have just looked at the New York Times website and the interactive map for this filthy storm – hope the forecast gets it wrong and it’s not as bad as predicted. But will be thinking of you all today and praying for a safe time.
Sign – Ocean Park came into my thinking a bit back, mainly because of the enthusiasm of Glen Boss – he’s not given to spruiking without reason. And those Thorn Park offspring do tend to be good. Moonee Valley is a tricky circuit – has very tight turns, so if you fail there, you still have a chance once you get to Flemington which is wide and flatter. I think that programme on Nelly was run on the ABC network here. And I see what you mean about barriers – your’s seem to be padded all over, ours are just metal, so hence the need for barrier blankets.
Keep safe people – love KathyR.

I’m hoping the same thing. Hoping the storm weakens. Hugs, JB

Signofthetimes, thanks for the slide show of Rachel in the Woodward. The look in her eyes is truly amazing. Talk about warrior princess. And to think she has turned into a gentle loving mother.
It is such a blessing that Team Z and Stonestreet have kept us up to date on Our Queen and Rachel. So many of the mares just disappear after their racing days are over.

Amazombie records final major drill for Sprint defense
The Handicappers Edge SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2012
Amazombie received his final major drill Friday for a title defense in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, going five furlongs before sunrise on Santa Anita’s fast main track in 1:00 3/5. It was the third fastest of 24 workers at the distance.
“He went good,” trainer Bill Spawr said of the California-bred gelding he co-owns with partner Tom Sanford. “He went in a minute and two-fifths, the last quarter in 23 (and) three (fifths), he galloped out (six furlongs) in (one) 13 and two or three.”

Breeders’ Cup: Trainers keeping an eye on Hurricane Sandy
By David Grening DRF Updated on 10/26/2012 5:35PM
ELMONT, N.Y. – Oy, Sandy.
The threat of Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the Northeast by the end of the weekend, has given New York-based trainers agita as they prepare to work and ship their horses to Southern California for next week’s Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita.
As of Friday, there were 21 Breeders’ Cup horses based at Belmont Park, though one, Upgrade, was scheduled to ship via FedEx Saturday. The remaining 20 were booked to leave on Tex Sutton flights from MacArthur Airport in Islip, N.Y., on Monday and Tuesday. Those flights, which actually leave from Lexington, Ky., will stop in Louisville each day to pick up Kentucky-based horses before going on to California.

Dear Z fans,
Shakelford is meeting his fans at SA, TOO CUTE. Dale Romans said after the Preakness
they had a party at his barn and Shakelford let 100’s of people pet him and he stayed up
late with his fans.
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/73896/shackleford-greets-his-fans-at-santa-anita
signofthetimes; President of Texas RN Chapter
“Cute” comment from the above article:
ANYTHING FOR A PEPPERMINT !!!!!
“Shackleford is a strong horse,” Romans told the crowd. “He knows what he’s doing. But if you have a peppermint, he’s very sweet. Does anyone have a peppermint?”
Several people dug into their pockets and brought forth candies, which Romans then let them feed to the colt.
Mike Lauffer, who owns Shackleford with Bill Cubbedge and the Phillips Racing Partnership and who bred him with Cubbedge, watched the crowd and took photos on his iPad.
“I think it’s just tremendous,” said Lauffer. “That’s why we’ve enjoyed horse racing and having Dale and Tammy as our trainers. We have a lot of fun with them, and they like to include everyone. All of their horses have developed big fan bases.”

Kathy R.
Sheena: we’ll just have to wait and see how Nelly (Black Caviar) goes on her return – she’ll be a target for a lot of trainers this time out – a lot of them would like nothing more than to knock her off – she will certainly have to be at the top of her game this time round. Still don’t see the point of a return to be quite honest. And yes, we’ve got Charles and Camilla coming on down! Wish it was the Queen, but Camilla at least knows a bit about horses. Getting very tense with the run-up to the Cup week. Hugs KathyR.
