Second Annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration to
Offer More Excitement for Fans
Tickets for After-Party In Honor of Popular Racing Star Selling Quickly
ARCADIA, Calif. (October 25, 2012) – Team Zenyatta announced this week that race-goers staying for the second annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration on Championship Friday, Nov. 2, would be treated to more racing celebrity appearances, special live entertainment and the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind items during a live auction honoring “The Queen.” The After-Party Celebration will be at Santa Anita Park’s Frontrunner Lounge following the day’s race card.
This official Breeders’ Cup event quickly has come to be a popular and electric gathering and this year will offer appearances by Zenyatta’s trainer, John Shirreffs, racing manager and voice of the Zenyatta Diary, Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, and jockey Mike Smith. Additionally, a cavalcade of past and present popular jockeys will be attending the After-Party on behalf of the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), including John Velazquez, Ramon Dominquez, Joe Talamo and Javier Castellano, as well as Hall of Fame great Laffit Pincay.
“My jockey friends and I are looking forward to the After-Party, where we will highlight the critical work of the PDJF, toast the Breeders’ Cup and hang out with Zenyatta’s fans,” Smith said. “The After-Party is sure to be one of the most fun events of Breeders’ Cup weekend.”
In addition to the PDJF, the Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration also will benefit CANTER as well as other equine, children, and racing-related charities.
Zenyatta fans in attendance will also be treated to live entertainment by Liza G. and her “Zenyatta” song, and a silent auction with Zenyatta memorabilia and artwork will take place throughout the evening. A live auction will feature several premium items including a special artist proof of the “Zenyatta, Horse of our Lifetime” bronze by Nina Kaiser, the sculptor of the life-sized Zenyatta statue recently unveiled at Santa Anita, a canvas from acclaimed equine artist Jaime Corum featuring Zenyatta entitled “Breeders’ Cup Gold,” an original halter from Zenyatta’s foal, and a trip to see Zenyatta at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, KY.
The After-Party Celebration will be from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, allowing race-goers a relaxing environment to toast the day’s winners and gather to celebrate the past and present of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at the Frontrunner Lounge. Amenities include a California buffet, a cash bar featuring Z-cocktails, and race replays from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program. Tickets are $50 for admission only, or $95 for admission combined with the buffet. A limited number of tickets are still available for sale at Zenyatta Shop.
As an added benefit for “The Queen’s” most loyal fans, reserved seating for the Breeders’ Cup Championship races in the specially designated Zenyatta Section is also available for $150 on Friday and $250 on Saturday. See Zenyatta Shop for sales and details.

I’m really looking forward to this party, but in case this has not yet been mentioned, someone should edit this announcement to say that the live entertainment will be provided by Liza G. Fly, not just “Liza G.” She has been a big part of Zenyatta’s fan base and her name should be listed properly here. Thanks! Can’t wait for Friday, November 2nd!!! :)

Dear KG,
Have been looking for this video since I saw it live, so glad you found it or did
you take it. He was so very proud of himself leading the post parade in that western saddle and trotting along like a good TB.

Thank you Karen for sharing this with us.

The love and patience that has been poured into you, especially showed that day.
Coach,I hope you will continue to delight us with your huge personality.
Congratulations Lava Man on having a race named in your honor!!!

Thanks Karen for another “just like I was there” experience!! Coach Lava Man looked so proud prancing along. Those mountains are absolutely gorgeous – can’t want to SEE them. Also noticed that photos will be a challenge with the track near the grandstand being in the shadows but light further out. Hmmmm.

Timing is everything in life.
Did not buy BC tickets. And, dd not enter the contest.
Did not think I would be able to go.
Family member was dealing with health problems and I was on caregiver standby.
Fortunately, all is well and the predicted operation was not needed.
Have a wonderful time Dumplings! I will be thinking about you.
As they say in so many sports, Wait until next year!!
Hugs, Keta

180 Horses Pre-Entered for Breeders’ Cup
By Ron Mitchell, @BH_RMitchell
Updated: Thursday, October 25, 2012 1:31 PM
Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2012 1:31 PM
The Breeders’ Cup announced Oct. 24 that 180 horses, including eight former or defending winners, were pre-entered for the Nov. 2-3 World Championships at Santa Anita Park.
The Breeders’ Cup will be televised live by the NBC Sports Network and NBC. For the first time, the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic will be televised live and in prime time on NBC from 8-9 p.m. ET.
Back to defend titles won in 2011 are Royal Delta, a scintillating winner of the Ladies’ Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs a year ago; Musical Romance, who was victorious in the 2011 Filly and Mare Sprint (gr. I); Amazombie, who is seeking consecutive wins in the Xpressbet Sprint (gr. I); and St Nicholas Abbey, who took the 2011 Turf (gr. IT). Returning Championship Day winners also include Awesome Feather and My Miss Aurelia, winners of the Grey Goose Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) in 2010 and 2011, respectively, who will challenge Royal Delta in the Ladies’ Classic.
Download the Breeders’ Cup Pre Entries here.
Although neither I’ll Have Another nor Union Rags , the two horses who combined to win this year’s Triple Crown races, are still in training, the classics will be represented in this year’s World Championships by 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Animal Kingdom, pre-entered in the Mile (gr. IT); 2011 Preakness (gr. I) winner Shackleford, who will contest the Dirt Mile (gr. I); and Dullahan, this year’s Kentucky Derby third-place finisher who will attempt the Classic (gr. I).
Returning in the $5 million Classic Nov. 3 is Game On Dude, who led from the start in the 2011 Classic before losing out in a gut-wrenching stretch duel with Drosselmeyer . Trained by Bob Baffert, who dominates the Santa Anita trainers’ standings, Game On Dude is undefeated in five starts at Santa Anita, four in graded stakes. Bill Mott, who saddled Drosselmeyer and Royal Delta to sweep the Classic and Ladies’ Classic last year, returns with a three-pronged entry in the Classic.
In the Classic, the 1 1/4-mile race that highlights the 15 World Championship races, Mott will be represented by Flat Out, the fifth-place finisher in the 2011 Classic who is coming off a win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I); To Honor and Serve, the Woodward Stakes (gr. I) winner who ran seventh in the Classic a year ago; and Ron the Greek, winner of the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs and the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I). Royal Delta was pre-entered in both the Classic and Ladies’ Classic as a backup plan by owner Ben Leon Jr.
Multiple Eclipse Award-winning trainer Todd Pletcher leads the pre-entries list with 12, followed by Baffert with 10.
Other returning World Championships winners are California Flag, winner of the Turf Sprint (gr. IT) over the Santa Anita downhill course in 2009, and Eldaafer, winner of the Marathon (gr. II) the last time the Breeders’ Cup was held at Santa Anita in 2010. Both have been pre-entered in the races they previously won.
The Mile is one of the most competitive races on the two-day card, with the versatile Wise Dan, top European horse Excelebration, and Arlington Millon (gr. IT) winner Little Mike among the challengers facing Animal Kingdom. A grade I winner on dirt and grass, Wise Dan comes into the Breeders’ Cup as one of the hottest horses in North American racing, with two consecutive grade I wins. Excelebration, trained by Aidan O’Brien for the Coolmore connections of Michael Tabor, John Magnier, and Derrick Smith, has won of 14 lifetime starts. Five of his losses came at the hands of Frankel, who topped the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ World Thoroughbred Rankings when he recently retired undefeated.
In addition to Musical Romance, the Filly and Mare Sprint also includes Groupie Doll, who has won or placed in 12 of 15 career starts, with four consecutive wins—two in grade I company and two in grade II stakes—to her credit; and Class Included, who has finished first 10 times and second on six occasions in as many career starts.
The Grey Goose Juvenile (gr. I) could be a East-West showdown between Starlight Racing Stables’ undefeated Shanghai Bobby, winner of the Champagne (gr. I) for Pletcher in his last start, and Power Broker, recent winner of the FrontRunner (gr. I), formerly the Norfolk, for Baffert.
A maximum of 14 starters are allowed in each of the 15 Breeders’ Cup World Championships races with the exception of the Dirt Mile, which is limited to 12. Breeders’ Cup Ltd. has adopted a field selection system to select runners in the event fields are oversubscribed. This system ranks horses in order of preference based on (i) Breeders’ Cup Challenge race winners, (ii) a point system, and (iii) the judgment of a panel of racing experts.
The field selection system was implemented following the taking of pre-entries Oct. 22, to officially rank the oversubscribed fields. The Racing Secretaries and Directors Panel ranked all horses pre-entered in the oversubscribed races. After pre-entry, any vacancies in the fields will be filled by horses in order of panel preference. Entry for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships races will be Monday, Oct. 29, by 10 a.m. PT. At the time of entry, a maximum of 14 horses (or 12) will be accepted for each race based on the order of preference established at pre-entry.
There will be up to two also-eligible horses for each Championship race. The also-eligible horses will be designated in accordance with the panel’s order of preference for each Championship race that is oversubscribed at the time of pre-entry. Scratch time for all Championships races to be contested on both Championship Friday and Championship Saturday will be 8 a.m. PT, Friday, Nov. 2.

Hey Everybody,
Just had a question if anyone knows. I just got concerned. I just went into Old Friendschecking on a horse i like very much and didn’t see him listed. I looked fast but I didn’t see him. Didn’t see him in the memorial section either.
He’s Invigorate, A Gelding. I am looking at a picture of him here at home right now.
Does anyone know if he’s OK. I did send an email to them asking. But I was wondering tonight if anyone knows. Just love him He use to be known as Michael’s horse. Or that’s what one of them there said. He’s a beauty.
Just worried. (Invigorate)

Dear Peggy N.:
Sadly, I just found this link from 2010 on A Memorial at Old Friends. Looks like Invigorate passed and was included in this Memorial. I’m sure his days at Old Friends were filled with happiness and contentment. Now he’s with all the other beautiful TB’s running free who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Love and Hugs, JB
