Happy February!
Last fall we held our fourth annual Zenyatta Celebration, raising $20,000 for Thoroughbred Rehab Center Inc. Five participants were chosen in a random drawing to win the grand prize, An Invitation to Meet Zenyatta. Each winner was invited to travel with a guest to Lane’s End Farm to meet Zenyatta and receive a tour of the farm. These photos document their visits. Photography by Alys Emson.
View the complete set of photos from these visits in our 2016 Zenyatta Celebration Photo Gallery.
Some of you have noticed that we’ve been posting less frequently, but our winter break is no cause for concern. Zenyatta is happy and healthy, and we got to see her at Lane’s End in late January. We’ll be posting images from our visit soon.
Enjoy!

Worthy performances do not make us who we are, but little things and what we tell ourselves in the privacy of our own minds. We are what we see and what we believe is important. We are children to the end-innocent in ways we do not understand, aware of our spiritual connections and afraid to develop them. What would people think? How will I explain that I no longer enter into those activities that are thought so clever? There’s a world of things we do not have to explain. As much as we want others to understand and like us, if it takes us off our standing place into a world of unlikely places, then we flirt with disaster. No one can dictate to us if we are not listening. We will not lose our footing if we are not teetering. We are who we are by what we choose to cultivate, and all worthy performances are made up of very little parts.
God made me an Indian.

Dear Kathy. In this world of social media everyone wants to be “liked”but it is impossible to like everyone.I am who I am and if people cannot accept that too bad!.I had a very late night just caught the by- election results.A great day for the Tories winning Copeland 1st time since 1982 a serving government has taken a seat from the opposition and guess who was Premier then?None other than Mrs Thatcher!Labour held on to Stoke.Of course they blamed Doris but what about postal votes. It’s so easy these days.I have voted this way for years.Poor Hovis is going to be bored in his box there have been many tears most of them Herman’s.I pray all goes well for him,
You really need a national holiday for President Fibbs how about his Gotcha day on march 11th?You can spend all day eating doughnuts.I have just started Felix’s book scanned through first. She is a delight.
Thank goodness the storm has died down and it is sunny today but more rain tomorrow30(05)should be starting her long journey back to Rutland soon.I went on Boo today very sweet photo of him in the ice cream van!I also visited Tom Cox last night and he lost his other cat Shipley last Saturday he is very sad,He had been ill last year with renal failure but improved after treatment. Then after the Bear died he went ill again and collapsed last Saturday the vet advised Tom to euthanise him.Tom was glad Shipley recognised him and was able to know he was much loved.Tom hasn’t cried like that for years. He has had a difficult 15 months especially after Roscoe’s attack and 2 life saving operations Christmas 2015.She was bitten by a dog.Remember to eat your doughnuts today.Loved his little whiskers cobered in cream. So glad I have ordered the stamps and that Kauto was honoured too.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXOXO

Dear Sheena,
We have to love ourselves and not worry about any one else. You will have to take a nap today to make up for those late hours! I vote by absentee ballot as well. So much more convenient. I’m worried sick about Hovis. I pray he will be okay. I agree there should be another holiday celebrating Fibbs’ Gotcha Day. The pics of them eating their birfday cake were so cute. Oh, I know you’re really enjoying Felix’s book. She’s a sweetheart. enjoy the sun before the next storm comes in. I hope 30 doesn’t have horrible weather all the way. Yes, the ice cream van pic on Boo was really cute. I miss not having many posts since the baby came along. Hopefully as she gets older we’ll hear from them more often. With our luck, though, there might be a second baby at that point. lol Poor Tom Cox. I know Steve and I cried and cried over Holly. Can you believe she’s been gone a YEAR at the end of next month??? Seems like just yesterday and I still miss her so.I will eat my doughnuts today…you do the same. Can’t wait to see those stamps! Exciting! TGIF and enjoy the weekend ahead. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXOXOXOXOX

Dear Kathy and Sheena,
Also so concerned about Hovis. Will keep praying for him to be well. I don’t remember him mentioning his ‘feathers’ lately, so we should have known something was up. Hope everyone prays for him. He really is one of our true joys and such a treasure! Power-up Big Boy!

To 13ZRulz, If your post on the previous page about Coz was a joke. Extremely “Not Funny” Very “UnKInd” . A lot of us love him dearly and we have not seen him in a while. I remember when Smarty Jones cracked his skull and had to have surgery and Lost in the Fog had Cancerous Tumors. Do you get my drift. If a joke please stop it. I am sure the Zenyatta Family can take care of Coz. Some horses don’t want to be a race horse. Don’t know about Coz but don’t you think if he was untrainable. They I am sure could geld him. Coz from what I saw of him was high spirited, but lots of horses are. Coz is no basket case.
Love him dearly, didn’t like reading that comment.
If your post was not a joke would you please clarify
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear 13ZRulz:
I agree with Peggy. I too feel that if you were mocking COZ by saying he was recovering from “brain surgery”, that is very unkind. I was surprised, saddened and upset when I read your post.
He’s part of Zenyatta; our First Prince and we love him. I wish we have news of him soon so that we can rest assured he is doing well. We love him even if he never succeeds as a racer. Doesn’t matter; he’s Z’s first born. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Elizabeth:
I have no info on COZ. Peggy and I were replying to Z13Rulz’s post on Page 6. Z’ster Martha Fosdick posted a request for info on COZ and Z13 posted a reply. You can read them both if you go to Page 6 toward the end of the page.
Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Z13Rulz, Peggy, Donna, Elizabeth and Z Fans:
I just did some research on horse lingo and found that “brain surgery” often, as slang, refers to gelding.
Z13Rulz, is this what you meant by your use of the term in your post to Martha. If so, then I fully understand your intent was not unkind and I’m sure that Peggy, Donna, Elizabeth and all of us do too.
I was not familiar with that term to describe gelding a horse, so I’m sorry if I completely misunderstood your meaning. Please let us know if that is what you were referring to. Could be the case or COZ could still have a career in stud duty. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks, JB.

When we stop fretting we gain more ground. If we can stop trying to control everything with our minds and let it go, even for a little while, we will get a clearer view. There is wisdom in the words, “Having done all, stand.” Do what can be done, build faith, know there is a Great Holy Spirit that knows even the very smallest thing we need. At this point, everything will challenge us, but just let it slide away, let it dissolve from inattention. The greatest steps are taken when we decide not to thrash out, not to hate and resent and lose ourselves in the confusion. Put it all down and walk away to something totally different. Having done all, stand, and refuse to be drawn back into a plate of no peace.
The man who sat on the ground in his tipi meditating on life and its meaning, accepting the kinship of all creatures and acknowledging unity with the universe of things, was infusing into his being the true essence of civilization.

IDear Kathy.I tend to fret a lot I’m afraid.Another damp day here. The long range weather forecast is for softish ground for the festival which bodes well for Cue Card.Lovely pic of him with his owner on FB today.Barry Geraghtyhas had a tumble and taken taken to hospital as a precaution horse was fine.27yrs ago this weekend Dessie won the racing post chase giving 2st all round.Crowd at Kempton went crazy.I have never heard the term “brain surgery”when referring to gelding an insult to all our NH champions!
I do hope Winx visits RA next year and no worries about the ground.Such a supermare.Lovely video from Banstead this morning African Rose had just been covered by Frankel and will have a scan in 2 weeks.Responsible was a couple of days overdue but everything turned out well and we get to see what happened next week.
Everything is coming on well with the new sanctuary and Alaa had a party.Nicky’s horse River Wild has just had a good win maybe entered in the Supreme.Mr Fibbs was cooking cupcakes. This was before he had a chef!Zoe’s friend Miss Dianne had an operation but seems all went well.A sad story about a pregnant mare dumped on the side of the road during the night and she died giving birth. How can humans be so cruel? There is talk Toast of New York may return to the track. He is back in the UK and getting thoroughly examined by the vet.For the first time I saw Hovis looking vulnerable yesterday he looked tiny in his stall. He will be travelling tomorrow.I never really cry when I am sad I just withdrawn into myself.I cry more when I am happy.I have yet to watch Valegro’s finale without sobbing yet!Hope you have a great weekend.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
It was cold here last night. It was down in the 30s. The dogs slept in, so I’m running late. They rest better when they’re chilly dogs! lol Have to get ready for Pilates pretty soon. Best wishes for Cue Card. Hope Barry will be fine. Fond memories of Dessie! I found video of Winx’s race. She’s WONDERFUL! That would be great if she visits RA. We will be anxious to hear about African Rose. Also Responsible. That’s good the sanctuary is coming on well. Congrats to River Wild (love that name!). Fibbs loves his sweets! He’s lucky he has a chef now. Glad Miss Dianne’s sister’s surgery went well. So sad reading of the pregnant mare dying giving birth. I think the people who dumped her will eventually have a lot to answer for. Best wishes for Toast of New York. Sad to hear Hovis looked vulnerable. Many prayers being said for him! And Valegro…who wouldn’t cry watching him??? I wish you a great weekend, as well. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXOXOXOX

News from FB is Triolo D’Alene has fractured his pelvis.Prayers for him if you remember he was friends with Simonsig who tragically died last year.
Young James Best rode a blinder on Pilgrim’s bay in the chase formerly known as the racing post chase. In his excitement pulling up he fell off!
Limini may go for the Champion Hurdle.
sheena.davies(wales)
Update from Nicky.Triolo suffered a nasty fracture to the ball of his pelvis and will spend some time at the vets with Simon Knapp.Cocktails at Dawn is pretty sore after his fall but Charlie Parcs is fine.Nicky thanked the staff at Kempton for their care.Hopefully Triolo will have a long and happy retirement now
shirleeinindy
Judy,
I think you are correct about the “brain surgery.” It has been talked about on the Forum in reference to gelding Coz. I don’t think any cruelty was intended. Thank you for researching this and setting things straight. From all we have seen and read, Coz is a bit of a bad actor.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
I had never heard the term used in connection with gelding, but I googled it in horse “lingo” and it came up. I’m sure that’s what Z13Rulz meant with no unkindness intended.

Most of us are like the trees that grow along the moist ravine. We are where we get the best nourishment. Others are undernourished and don’t know what to do about it. Many times they reject the very thing that would help because of their preconceived notion and misunderstanding of what is true. Obviously, if what we are doing shows no improvement in us, we are not doing the right thing. Most answers and remedies are simple if we were not so hardheaded and determined to make it complicated. The sooner we recognize emotions, lack of rest, and a constant flow of negative thought as enemies, the sooner we get a handle on the real problem. It takes constant monitoring to know ourselves as we really are and begin to clear the way.
