Happy Wednesday!
Last fall we held our third annual Zenyatta.com Celebration. Zenyatta fans everywhere helped us raise $23,000 for Thoroughbred Rehab Center Inc, and five participants were chosen in a random drawing to win our grand prize, An Invitation to Meet Zenyatta. Each winner was invited to travel with a guest to Lane’s End Farm to meet Zenyatta and receive a tour of the farm. These photos document their visits.
View the complete set of photos from these visits in our 2015 Zenyatta.com Celebration Photo Gallery.
Enjoy!

Strength comes by doing. Say you are going to do something in no uncertain terms and you can do it. Some things are simply worth the effort.
When we start saying we are not able-we are not able. If we give up, we give up more than we intend to-and we cannot regain it easily. If we give an inch, life will take a mile. If we let something happen thinking we will make it up, forget it. Now is the time to make the difference, not some future time. Think “GO,” and then do it.
I feel grateful to the Great Spirit for strengthening my heart.

Dear Kathy.I am someone who always puts off until tomorrow!I must GO and get things done! The Grand National weights are out Many Clouds has 11st 10lb he certainly has a good chance of winning back-to-back Nationals.Holywell only has 10st 12lb.Depends how they whittle them down to 40runners.Felix is inspecting platform 1 she has nearly 47000 friends now.I hadn’t been on Venus the strangely coloured cat for ages and she has well over a million followers now.Ray is having cuddles with daddy before he leaves for work.Katie used to love sitting by the oven while the chicken was roasting she was so patient.Gosh,it’s hot with Zoe 92F in February!I could see your message saying it was the same in Southern Calif. It’s pretty cold but dry here today but snow and rain in places.Promises mild end of week I could see that mild air is spreading over the NE of US too.Mango has a big surprise for Katybug’s birthday and Abby had presents from Shorty for Valentine’s.Poor Angel-Marie is having problems with her leg and may need to travel to Florida for an op only they don’t have the funds.I hope she can be helped. The rocket is out with Milo going to do some space trabel again. How will they have time with all the campaigning for Mr Fibbs? He has a busy year ahead with these cactus or cacti!Portillo was in Baltimore last night had no idea Maryland was named after Henrietta Maris King Charles’ wife.Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.Rex the eagle who flew off from a demonstration in Kent has arrived home safely!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Good luck to Many Clouds! Hang in there Holywell. Congratulations to Felix. 47,000 friends is a LOT! Venus with well over a million is amazing! Ray loves cuddling with Daddy. They sure love those dogs! Just as it should be! Zoe will probably have to wear a pair of her adorable shoes so her little pads don’t burn! We’ll have to stay tuned to learn what the surprise is for Kathybug’s birthday. I hope they can help Angel-Marie, too! I also wonder if now is the time to continue with the space exploration when they’re so involved with Fibbs’ Presidential campaign. If I had heard how Maryland was named I forgot that. I should watch Portillo, too! Have a great Tuesday! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Sheena,
Thank you for posting this. What amazingly wonderful people who are at this rescue/clinic in Valencia! It is so difficult and heartbreaking to see the cruelty inflicted upon the innocents by our species (the supposedly superior intellect of the human animal?). How heartless. Thank heavens for the compassionate ones who give such love and extreme care. God bless them and these courageous creatures, and may their lives from now on be filled with kindness, generosity, good health and boundless love.
Power up, dear Nancy and all your comrades in the fight for recovery and life.

Dear Marshall. It is so difficult to see the cruelty man inflicts on our fellow creatures and as you say we are meant to be the superior race!I think not,I just read about a young dalmation found alone and so freezing cold He has a microchip with a Pontypridd address and number but no one is answering the phone. He is very weak with severe diarrhea Someone must have dumped him.I pray he survives and will find a good home,I am sure Bailey and Smudge are keeping you busy. They are the fortunate ones.Love and hugs Sheena

Think before you speak. You may be on foreign ground and cannot see what someone else is truly doing. If you think you heard something, check it out before you begin to accuse. Don’t be a pessimist. Refuse to believe in pessimism. If something doesn’t come out the way you want, forge ahead. If you think it is going to rain, it will. In other words, we are each the prophet of our own life. What we see and say is the blueprint for what happens from this point forward.
You are fools, you are blind…you have no ears…and you cannot hear.

Just saw over on the Forum that Mike has been suspended for 3 days and that Gary Stevens will be riding Ziconic. Nothing against Gary who is one of my favorites but Mike has spent a lot of time with Zi and seems to really love him. Gary was quoted as saying Ziconic was “green.” Well yeah. He has never raced!
Abigail1849
Agree with what you’re saying here. Mike knows Zi best. I hope that doesn’t prove a disadvantage although Gary is excellent & will keep him safe for sure.

Dear Shirlee and Abigail:
Oh, I’m disappointed. So wanted to have Mikey ride ZI. I like GS very much, but was thrilled that Mikey would be aboard. Next race! Godspeed Ziconic and GS; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

MIKE SMITH SUSPENDED
STABLE NOTES BY ED GOLDEN
Ziconic, second son of champion mare Zenyatta, is scheduled to make his debut in a maiden special weight race this Saturday, Feb. 20. The colt worked four furlongs Saturday under Zenyatta’s regular rider Mike Smith in 49.60 for John Shirreffs . . . Smith has been suspended three days (Feb. 20, 21 and 25) for careless riding aboard Crimson and Gold in Saturday’s fifth race

Dear Shirlee, Ann and Marshall:
Yes, Godspeed ZI and safe and sound all.
Shirlee, actually the only time Z didn’t get up in time to win a race was the BCC 2010. Ironically, Mikey wasn’t aboard for her first start (Maiden win) November 22, 2007. He rode her for the first time to her fourth win in the Apple Blossom on 4/5/08 and you know the rest of the story.
Maybe it’s a good omen for ZI and Mikey will be on him next time and start a new winning streak.
I’m not giving up on COZ; hoping he shows ’em next time out. Bernie didn’t win at first asking, he finished 4th. Love and Hugs, JB

Big Congratulations to California Journey upon his winning Best in Show at Westminster last night! “CJ” is an absolutely stunning German Short-haired Pointer. The Reserve Champion is an elegant Borzoi whose call-name is Lucy. I am particularly fond of the Sporting Group and the Hound Group — what am I saying, I am fond of terriers and all the rest, too! CJ’s grandmother(Carly) won Best in Show there in 2005 (or’07?). Good genes!
I well remember her “stack”; it was spot-on perfection.
Sorry that David Frei will not be the host/commentator at WKC next year. Westminster signed a contract with FoxSports for the next 10 years. David will continue with NBC and will still be on the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day after the Parade — WKC hadn’t wanted him to do both, but since the networks will be different now, he had to choose, and his allegiance is to NBC after all these years. We will certainly miss David Frei next February!

Isn’t he a knockout?
My folks have had several wonderful Shorthairs, including a gorgeous dual champion.
Our guys were also shameless lap dogs, which is kind of a pain considering their size:)

Thought it was such an outstanding line up.
Night before Rumour looked like not only a Group winner, but Best in Show.
The Skye, Good Time Charlie, is such a fan favorite
And, the judge is/was a breeder of Borzois & Skyes-wasnit sure if that worked
for or against them.
Bottom line: C J was magnificent and deserved Best in Show.
Great to watch!

Check your tongue. Has it been working overtime? Has it been repeating too many things that it should not repeat? The Indian’s stoic nature is not particularly silent, but he has learned the import of his words. Don’t say it if it is not necessary. Remember, when you talk, the young hear you.

3 students changing the horse industry
Lexington Souers in Kentucky Kernel Updated Feb 14, 2016
Three UK students are in the business of prevention, and it could have a huge impact on the horse industry.
Their project, named Race Assured, uses blood samples to forecast potentially devastating injuries, like broken bones, about six to eight weeks before they happen.
When a horse’s skeletal system is under stress, certain markers in the blood begin to elevate. The test shows if these markers are elevated, giving owners enough time to prevent or lessen any damage.
