Never say to yourself, “This may not work.” Give support to whatever you try. You see, it hears you. It accepts your decision even before you begin.
Always tell your work that it is good and that it will serve a purpose long after it is finished. To tell it anything else is calling it by unseemly names, names that oppose its good success.
Call life by its beautiful names. Tell it how strong and honorable and good it is. It is your life and your voice, and you have the right to use them together for every good purpose.
There was never a question as to the supremacy of an evil power over and above the power of good.

Dear Kathy.Great devotional.I was devastated to hear about ‘Red’ passing last night or this morning in Australia. Many are saying he should have been retired before now.Maybe so but it’s not the time for the blame game.Today we must mourn the loss of a globetrotting horse who touched the lives of racing fans across the world.I put a message on his tribute blog and Robin had thanked everyone for their messages.I feel for him and Steve so much. These accidents can happen in training and as we know only too sadly in the paddock. We have had a sad week in Europe between everything.Brussels is in lock-down today and 20 died in the hotel siege in Bamako Mali.Did you hear Fubu has gone blind?I am surprised with all the vet’s visits it hasn’t been picked up before.I know he is an indoor cat but you’d think Kimberly would have noticed something was amiss.Naturally she is very upset.Racing goes on over here Vautour returned at Ascot had to fight for the win.He doesn’t like right-handed courses but he is favourite for the King George another right-handed course!!Soon it will be the Betfair at Haydock. It has snowed in places today even sleet in London!Another stormy night here and rain/hail.I haven’t had the hwyl (as we say in Wales) to visit many today.Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Extremely sad news about Red. That was kind of you to post a tribute to him. Yes, sadly a lot of Europe seems in crisis right now as well as over in Mali. I did hear that Fubu is blind in both eyes. Sad to hear, but I do know blind cats can cope pretty well. Sorry to hear of Kimberly’s chest pains. Hope all the horses and jockeys stay safe this weekend. You stay safe and warm. Enjoy the weekend. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
It is always easy to say he should have been retired earlier but these injuries happen to
2 and 3 year olds; look at the death of our Rockfall the favorite for tue BC sprint injury in training at 3 and euthanized. Red had so many good years of racing and so many wonderful fans; life in retirement is ideal, but many times does not happen for our champions. It is an extreme sport with extreme random consequences at times. Hopefully some of his siblings will give you as much joy as he has.

Woy is weally cross with the pwoducer and has been showing him how to win a wace!

Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
Sooo funny; love when Woy grazes and takes off with the Pwoducer in his new position.
Very brave to drop reins; hands fully extended behind one at a full gallop. These two and Woy are a scream. Love these videos.
Love and hugs
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Tizgood. Woy’s brother Jack was the other grey. They have a pic of all the muddle family on their FB tonight. That’s their race name.Hugs Sheena,
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
It is so amazing to ride these chasers with a loose rein at a full out gallop. SS was ridden completely without restraint so he had full use of his body, very scary and so amazing at the horses response.
No wonder AP thought dressage was so strange. Dressage is all about
control of every step; it is very nerve racking to ride. Jack and Woy are beautiful grays and Batch is a scream.
Love and hugs

Dear Kathy.Just noticed the post by Kimberly worrying about Fubu’s eyes she was so upset she had terrible chest pains. He had bumped into the coffee table.Blind cats can cope well though.Hugs Sheena.

Today’s devo:
In the last days there will come times of stress. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful . . . (2 Timothy 3:1–2)
Notice how ingratitude goes with pride, abuse and insubordination.
In another place Paul says, “Let there be no obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking . . . but rather thanksgiving” (Ephesians 5:4). So it seems that gratitude is the opposite of ugliness and violence.
The reason this is so is that the feeling of gratitude is a humble feeling not a proud one. It is other-exalting, not self-exalting. And it is glad-hearted not angry or bitter.
The key to unlocking a heart of gratitude and overcoming bitterness and ugliness and disrespect and violence is a strong belief in God, the Creator and Sustainer and Provider and Hope-giver. If we do not believe we are deeply indebted to God for all we have or hope to have, then the very spring of gratitude has gone dry.
So I conclude that the rise of violence and sacrilege and ugliness and insubordination in the last times is a God-issue. The basic issue is a failure to feel gratitude at the upper levels of our dependence.
When the high spring of gratitude to God fails at the top of the mountain, soon all the pools of thankfulness begin to dry up further down the mountain. And when gratitude goes, the sovereignty of the self condones more and more corruption for its pleasure.
Pray for a great awakening of humble gratitude.

Tizgood,
Saw the video. Unbelievable how good he looks! Sure a lot different than when he first went to the farm. I was impressed with the calmness of his connections. All seems peaceful and calm around him.
Tizgood
Dear Shirlee,
I hope he runs as good as he looks. He is as “shiny as a copper penny”.
The mix of owners seems better, too as you said and Art looks so happy,
which I am so happy for. Last year was not very good for him, he is at the
end of his career and I hope this is a wonderful year for him with CC.

Don’t let the night make you afraid. As children, our e li si (grandmother) was conservative with oil for lamps and it was a joyful time when family and friends gathered on the porch or sat on the grass and told stories after night. It was not uncommon to hear the high whine of mosquitoes. “Smudges” or small fires were laid to smoke a lot and keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Someone told snake stories or ghost stories, someone sang, someone related funny tales-but the night made it possible. Shy visitors were secure; the caring and kinship melded friendships together and children finally fell asleep on comfortable laps. Neighbors drifted away; they would happily come again-when it was night.
Give us wisdom to guide us on the path of truth.

For those of us who are trying to get information about horses who were injured or turned out or just disappeared: Don’t know if it was coincidence or not, but I wrote a letter to the owners of Farm From Over asking about him and two weeks later there was an article on Throughbreddailynews.com. The first news since back in the spring. Phone calls didn’t work as all I got was voice mail. I was lucky. The owners were listed on his facebook page.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Your letter could have prompted his owners to publish info on Far From Over. We will keep asking as fans about our beloved horses; I think it does make a difference. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Kathy.A blessed Sabbath to you too.I had just gone to bed at 3am!!Watched a late film. It’s a clear crisp cold day here I see there is heavy snow in Chicago.Brussels is still in lock down.Gerald Mosse dedicated his win to Red but found it difficult to talk.Did you see about Fubu’s very high BP?he’s on more tablets now but his organs are fine.He is confused though and misses the TV.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
Feeling so bad for Fubu. I have to wonder how bad it will get before Kimberly is willing to let him go. You never want to think about saying goodbye to a beloved pet, but the time always came for me to want to end the pain and suffering.
Hugs, Kathy XOXO

Dear Kathy.Sadly it comes to us all in the end.Life is so short. She cannot keep Fubu forever however much she loves him.She will have to let go for his sake.We both know it’s a hard decision that has to be taken.Hugs Sheena

Dear Sheena,
The ISIS/ISIL attacks are aweful- O has his head in the sand and wants to let regugees
in. They have already been stopped at the border. News hear says this group was created when power was with drawn from Iraq and Afganistan. They come here and never assimilate, just bring their ways here. The world is in a sad situation and if this group gets into the US ……
Love and hugs
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Tizgood. It all started with the Iraq war.No thought was ever given to the aftermath of the wars in Iraq orAfghanistan. These fanatics could attack anywhere. It’s said we will be bombing in Syria by Christmas.Yet another war and more deaths.Hugs Sheena
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
So very true, they have never been able to get along and now
they are all over the world spreading their ill will with each other
with the world. You are so right about Christmas. French President
is coming to the US soon that meeting will be very interesting; to
be a fly on the wall. As DT says we need a new president now.
Wish FDR and Churchill were back, bet they are turning in their graves.
Love and hugs
lauraj_cincinnati
I don’t generally think that political discussions belong on this website, but this sentiment is so off-base that I think a response is required.
Yes, ISIS/ISIL is an awful organization, but to think that accepting Syrian refugees (many of whom are VICTIMS of ISIS) will significantly increase the chances of a Paris-type terrorist attack is purely a fear response. This is exactly the point of terrorism–to sow fear and discord. If we as Americans are so petrified of these refugees–many of whom are children–that we won’t allow any of them into the country, then ISIS has already won a huge victory.
The entry of refugees into the USA is much different than entry into France, for example. They can’t just walk in–there is an ocean between North America and Eurasia. Refugees applying for asylum go through a lengthy (~18 months) process that involves background checks by the FBI, INS, State Department, and multiple other federal agencies, and admission is weighted toward women and children. A potential terrorist is most likely NOT going to try to enter the country as a refugee–why would he when it’s easier to get in on a tourist visa?–assuming of course that said terrorist is not home grown.
Don’t forget that not all terrorists are Islamic radicals. Fanatics come in many different flavors. We have our own extremists. For example, Dylan Roof shot up a church to make a political point. He perpetrated an act of terror by any reasonable definition. He’s also a white U.S. citizen, raised as a Christian, who happens to be a gun-toting, Confederate-flag-waving, entirely home-grown white supremacist.
In any case, there are many things one should fear more than terrorism. Fear of terrorism is far more crippling than terrorism itself. The chances that you, I, or anyone we know will be killed or injured by a terrorist of any stripe is minute. Between 9/11 and June 2012, an average of 24 Americans per year were killed by terrorists, almost all in Iraq or Afghanistan. Compare that to traffic deaths. Americans aren’t afraid to get in the car and turn the ignition, yet the NTSA reports that nearly 19,000 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in the first 6 months of 2015, and almost 2.3 million were injured severely enough to require medical consultation. Or take guns–there are around 32,000 gun-related deaths per year in the U.S., some 11,000 of which are classified as homicides. (That’s according to a conservative website.) So who is scarier: a Syrian 8-year-old or the guy texting while driving? A woman in a hijab shopping with her kids at Costco, or one of the armed jerks currently “patrolling” outside an Islamic center in Dallas? I know which I find more frightening. Anyway, most of us (~87%) will die from heart disease, lung disorders, cancer, diabetes, and other noncommunicable diseases that are exacerbated by poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise, alcohol abuse, etc. We are our own worst enemies.
As for Trump, this is a guy who has suggested that Muslims need to be in a special database and wear some sort of identifying badge. What does this remind us of?
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Bravo LauraJ! Well said!
Tizgood
Dear Laura,
I am sure you have no personal experience living with large groups of protesting middle easterners that pay off the city police, churches etc…. to get what they want in the way they want with their consulates at the healm
of their activity. They persecute US citizens and violate the law with their consulate bailing them out with $$$$. This activity exists in many cities in the US and they do not assimilate; they pretend. Open your eyes; Belgium is an open society, welcoming all and look where they are….
We are going to be just like Belgium. And as for a forum for topics on this
blog; World issues impact horses and horse racing. Seabiscuit was a racing hero during the depression after the war so world issues are related to racing.

Dear Laura J, Sandy and Judy,
Watch out for those ME women and Children with

of all ages. Best of luck.

Saying is claiming and claiming is putting a brand on something-not so different from the rancher that brands his cattle.
Be careful what you claim as your own, because you will get it whether it is good for you or not. Old decrepit age is claimed by more people than anything else. They listen to advertising and medical reports and believe they are supposed to begin giving up when they are just past forty.
Many things “could” happen, as the reporters say, but not if we stop claiming we are susceptible to every passing germ and every aging day. Speak the word and know it is right for us to brand our cattle any way we see fit-the very best, the very best.
Our old chiefs thought to show their friendship and good will, when they allowed this dangerous snake into our midst…
