Happy Friday!
Our second Zenyatta.com Celebration happened over Breeders’ Cup weekend last fall. Through the sales of our 2014 Celebration Sticker and an auction of Zenyatta memorabilia, we raised money for Thoroughbred Rehab Center, Inc. The final donation totaled $20,000, and we have all of you to thank for your support and generosity!
Five fans won our grand prize, An Invitation to Meet Zenyatta, in a random drawing. Each winner was able to travel to Lane’s End Farm with a friend of choice to meet Zenyatta and receive a tour of the farm. These photos by Alys Emson document their visits.
One of the winners was unable to travel to the farm for her visit. We wish her well, and Zenyatta looks forward to meeting her in the future!
View the complete set of photos from these visits in our Zenyatta.com Celebration Photo Gallery.
Enjoy!

I like to look ahead at the upcoming races at Santa Anita to see if anything catches my eye to watch on Calracing. Who remembers Zardana, one of John Shirreffs trainees? This coming Sunday in race 5 her 2012 colt, Smart Transition, by Smart Strike will be racing, as far as I can tell, in his debut. Trainer is John Shirreffs, jockey, Victor Espinoza. I want to try to remember this one. Post time is 2:30 Pacific Standard Time.

Dear Marty:
Thanks for the heads up on Smart Transitions first start. Godspeed beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Aren’t those happy pictures wonderful?? I must agree with those who are happy to see The Queen with her beloved mud bath showing–glad she gets to BE a horse!! Barnaby LOVES to roll and almost always does it as soon as we bring him into the soft indoor arena! If he has gotten wet outside,he immediately becomes covered with mud too!!
He is doing really well now. His vet gave him clembutyral (sp.), which was a miracle drug for him. Had to put it on grain for about 10 days, but it really did wonders for him. I had known for some time that his respitory system seemed to be compromised,as he would cough in the summer from dust and all. It turns out he has CORD–called RAO in horses (recurring airway obstruction)–acts like asthma in a person. It is not curable, but IS manageable. Luckily,I don’t go in for endurance racing or Olympic jumping–actually use him very lightly,so the vet thinks he will be fine. Just have to be careful of him He is feeling like his old self now–and more than happy to play the “mounting block game” again!! Last Sunday,he really got scared. The arena sprinklers came on just as we were going him. I was able to coax him in and Traveller reluctantly followed, but, they were really jumpy. Sue thought we should turn them in to the arena so they would be free. We took them in and then the sprinklers down at our end came on–just as I was trying to unhook his lead rope. He ran oof, jerking it out of my hand and dragging it behind him–as did Traveller!! Luckily, neither of them stepped on a rope and they stopped at the other end without incident. By the time the sprinklers stopped and we got them groomed and saddled, they were still so traumatized by the whole thing, they were really “spooky” the rest of the ride. Especially Barnaby–he crept around walking really slowly–like someone tip-toeing through a haunted house in a scary movie. He acted like he thought something scary was going to jump out at him any minute!!Poor baby–he is so big and strong, but sometimes I can see the little foal he was long ago–shy and timid. He is SUCH a love!!!
I’m going to see him, with Boss Mare Sue,tomorrow morning,on my way to the airport to fly to CA for twodays. I’m going to my friend,Nicki’s, internment service, where her ashes will be laid to rest with her mom’s. You may remember my telling you that hermother was the great Miss Peggy Lee. It will be a quick trip but will be wonderful to be with all of the family–and–my daughter and family will be there. Hope all have a safe weekend–Zenny, stay safe in cozy in the barn–it’s supposed to be 14 below in Lexington!!!!
Love to all!!

Dear Sue:
Great to hear from you. It’s true, anything unfamiliar can really be scary for the horses. So glad the new med is helping Barnaby. Enjoy your trip to CA. Love and Hugs, JB

Sue Noel, Such a pleasure to hear from you! I am thrilled Barnaby’s breathing problems can be managed. There can always be a surprise at the stables once in a while. Glad horses did not react too badly with the sudden sprinklers going on.
hugs, Sally B
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
So glad that Barnaby is doing better. Safe trip Sue! Not a happy occasion, but I know that being there means a lot.
Celeste_in_TX
So glad your vet was able to pinpoint the problem and come up with a good solution!! I feel so bad for the poor fellas spooking at the water sprinklers, but they are prey animals so it is their very nature to be wary. Bless their hearts for being brave enough to go on through the exercises without further incidents even though they were scared. Good boys!! Safe travels to you.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sue Noel,
Love your post as always! Happy to hear that Barnaby is much better and that his condition can be managed. Good news, indeed.
Have a safe trip to CA and enjoy the family.

February 20 Cherokee Devotional
A miracle is an event beyond human power to understand-so much so that most people will shove aside the thought as unreal.
Miracles happen every day to the most common of us and at any hour. We tend to call them by a more acceptable name-coincidence. But most of these supernatural events move in like the dawn creeping across the land. It is so gradual it seems that it has always been.
What triggers a miracle? It is not outward, but something that throws a switch within. It is an event over and above anything we can explain-and why should we need to?
Day and night cannot dwell together.

Dear Kathy. Was’nt there a song or a film called”A pocket full of Miracles”?No need for explanations!I have posted the latest pic of Hovis on your FB the dreaded shaver is out!And he looks very sleepy!I pray it works out well for him and Karen has had her plaster cast removed! It;s beautiful here today mild and sunny spring is in the air for today at least! Now I noticed Marty has over 19000 “likes”the ratties had oats last night.am waiting for the new family to arrive.Tom and Joey were such a great team!I so miss all those videos of them together. The red pandas were having a fantastic time in the snow.Mango’s morning post yesterday was really touching I was in tears as usual.Judy has such a way with words and Mango too!Did you see the blonde mafia?I loved the look on Boo’s face!As if to say I’m the godfather.Loki wasn’t too well last night but is a lot better this morning is playing and eating. He uses pill-pockets now much easier for him.His mum is so stressed wondering if he will be alright when she returns from work each day.Zoe had a great therapy Thursday meeting the orthodox priest.Have a fantastic Friday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, I think there was a song by that name. Poor Hovis, life is so tough for him! I know most animals are so mortified when something is done to alter their looks! You’re right, he does look very sleepy. Thanks for that! Absolutely praying Hovis does well and Karen, too! Enjoy your lovely weather! I’m getting quite attached to the ratties, especially Phineous. Will miss them when they leave! I look forward to the new family, too! Tom and Joey enjoyed such a loving relationship. Losing Joey must have been very hard on Tom. Thoroughly enjoyed the red pandas. Pure joy! Mango’s posts are frequently tear-jerkers. Bless her and her moms. Yes, I saw the blonde mafia! Such cuties! Glad to hear Loki is better. Always a good sign when they play! Loved hearing of Zoe’s visit with the priest. Happy Friday to you, and enjoy the weekend ahead! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
